Recently had my iPhone 5 stolen. It looked like the thief actually turned it on today, as I received a weird "iPhone is now using (email address) for messaging. Tell me, can I track the phone using iMessages?

I hadn't gotten to enabling it. Only had it 5 days. It is disabled and registered as stolen with the cell company. Just wondered if other methods of tracking would work.
It'll eventually become a brick, since I don't think a charge cable can be had.

I just today had my iPhone stolen. I know you can use find my iphone but who ever stole it knew to turn if off right away. I'm sure they will then remove the sim card so no internet can track it. Now if i know the serial number can i have Apple disable this iphone from ever being used again? Is there anything else i can do?

I have had my iphone 5 stolen and last backed up approx. 2 months ago. I don't think I've ever gone through and set up PhotoStream however it has always appeared on my phone. Is there any way of getting back messages/photos/etc from the past 2 months?

I have had my iphone 5 stolen/have lost my iphone 5. I haven't backed it up for a while (2 months?!) and I am not sure that I actually set up Photostream however it's always been on there from what I can tell (icon is there). Is there anyway of getting back contacts/messages/photos/anything from the phone onto my new replacement phone if it hadn't been backed up recently? I've got everything up until the last backup - contacts and messages aren't such an issue for me but the photos mean a lot!!!

If you are logged in to icloud with your same Apple ID. Go to setting on your phone>Photos & Camera and turn ON my Photo Stream.

I think you will have to do a complete restore--you will lose any info added since last backup. Connect phone to computer, select it in souce list. Next, click on Summary tab, click Restore. In the next dialog box, click Restore--your phone will be erased and the latest software will be installed. Click agree to terms and phone will restart. Then you will see the phone setup screen--click on Restore from Backup and select the most recent backup. Obviously, this will only work if you have a backup on the computer. If not, check Set up as New Phone, click continue, then wait for the process to finish.

Surely Apple can think of a way to make these stolen phones more difficult to re-use ? No matter the precautions, a cell phone is easy to steal. But it seems even easier to re-use stolen cell phones. I had "find my phone", passwords, and another tracking device on my second stolen phone. Thieves just shut it off and wipe it. You would think with all the technology available, these phones could be rendered completely useless if stolen. Unless of course this "second hand market" is considered valuable.

Your best bet is to as soon as you realize your device has been stolen is to go to iCloud.com on your computer and put the device in Lost Mode. This gives you the opportunity to not only add a Lock to the screen, but also to send a message to the lowlife who stole you phone, giving them the opportunity to return it, (of course, don't give them any of your personal information!). But you may be able to find a way to communicate with them anonymously via a 3rd party phone or something to see what can be done.
You will be happy to know that your device and its contents cannot be accessed by the thief, and if you don't care for tracking it, you also can also Erase all of your personal information from the device. This does not remove the Activation Lock, so they still won't be able to use it for anything.....

The only way to find a lost iOS device is to use the Find my iPhone app or www.icloud.com. For this to work, you have to enable this feature on the lost device prior to loss. If you didn't do this, there is no way to find it. Neither Apple nor your carrier will find it for you.

Unfortunately, since an unauthorized party opened it, Apple won't have anything to do with it at all. It's not eligible for an out of warranty replacement.

I did actually find the imei number and serial number through Itunes Backup, it was in there. You go into Itunes, then Preferences, Device and it is in there.. Thank you for your help.

I suggest you simply copy your entire User folder from old computer to new computer. This way all your data (Music, photos, contacts, emails, calendars, documents, etc.) goes across.

The LCD Display connector has partially come loose from the logic board connector, and simply needs to be pressed back down into place. Or the front screen assembly is now faulty, and needs to be replaced again.

I really don't think that they have any interest in your data. They most likely plan on wiping the phone in order to sell it.
If they do restore from a backup, they would have to restore in Recovery Mode because it has a passcode on it. But that can't happen anyway because if they synced to a different iTunes library it would not have any of your backups.

i went to the HP site, read thru & viewed video instructions, went to device manager as well as HP assistant & followed all the instructions (hopefully?) but all i accomplished was killing some time as i waited for the next winter storm! am afraid to do their HP recovery disk that i made on my first HP day because i had to have geek squad make changes last year due to other connectivity issues & am hesitant to undo all their work i had paid for! hoped that HP assistant program would just discover prob on its' own! device manager took me to view of all components but nothing just simply says "this is your optical/cd drive program". am greatful for fact you tried to help, my friend, shows you have admirable and altruistic qualities!.computers have always been too unforgiving when it comes to my trying to enjoy them! too bad i don't know name of device that governs cd-drive. thank you for wanting to help me out.
