Recently had to reset my computer back to factory default settings

I recently had to reset my computer back to factory default settings due to a possible keylogger hidden somewhere on my computer. When I did this, I forgot to transfer all of my songs onto my iPod before I did it, which wiped all of my songs off of my computer. I recently re-installed iTunes and I need to know if there is a way to recover the songs I had purchased previously?
Whenever I try to "Buy Song", it takes me to the receipt of the song, but won't download it. Any suggestions?

    Hi NYYJMM,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may want to reset your iPod nano and then sync again. If the issue persists, restore your iPod and try again. See these articles for the steps:

Granddaughter somehow reset my computer back to the original settings, cleared everything..can it be recovered?

Is it possible she simply created a new user account?
Open the hard drive by double clicking its icon on the desktop (assuming you have these turned on to show). Double click the Users folder. Is there more than one account there? Is your original account still there?

  • Lost all my photos and music because I had to reset my laptop back to factory condition.

Hello everyone! ok so I had to reset my HP laptop running windows 7 back to factory condition. I could not back anyting up because my laptop was barely usable. I lost everything! But this happened to me in the past on another computer and I started messing around way deep in the computer files and eventually i found everything! It took forever to find them but I did in fact find them. but now the problem is that was so long ago that i cant remember at all how I did it or got to where i was. Does anybody know how to find the files i am talking about?

    Excuse me for jumping in.
Download and Recuva Free, it may get your files back even if the disk is formated, it will take a while.

  • Please help me, I recently had to reset my computer and lost my entire hard

Hard drive. AFter getting the computer to work again, I reinstalled my Itunes software. I then wanted to transfer my music from my IPOD to my computer. I followed the step by step support instructions and after it told me to click "Consolidate library" nothing happened and i did not know what to do next. Now the music i had on my IPOD is gone and none of my songs are on my ITUNES. All the music i had on my IPOD were playlists. Please tell me there is a way to get my music back. I called Apple support and they told me to try here. I learned a painful lesson after losing my entire hard drive, to back stuff up. The only thing that survived was the music on my IPOD and now that's missing. I am sooo upset, please if anyone can help me recover my songs i would be so happy and appreciative. Thanks for any and all responses and help.

Thanks for reading my problem and taking the time to answer. The biggest crime of all, is that i followed APPLES SUPPORT page to the letter. It not only didn't help me, but it made my situation worse. Then i call apple to get help on a problem their own information caused, and they tell me i can pay something like $60.00, just to see if they could help. I asked the rep what happens if you can't resolve my issue, and the response was not good. SO basically they caused me to lose all my music and then ontop of that, they wanted to charge me $60.00 just to tell me that "yes your music is gone, and no we can't get it back." what a company. You are right about that long weekend with my cd's. Take care and have a great day.

  • HT1386 I recently had to reset my computer to out-of-box status. I lost everything. when i re-installed itunes, it would no longer sync with my iphone. I contacted Apple for help but they want to charge me. I've tried everything can you help?

Can anyone help me fix itunes? It will no longer sync with my iphone.

More info needed... and why didn't you have a backup of your computer to restore from?
    Why won't it sync?
Any error message? If so, what does it say?
Does iTunes see the phone when it is plugged in?
Are you on a Mac or PC? What version of what operating system is your computer running?

  • HT1473 I recently had to restore my laptop back to factory settings and lost my itunes music. I have imported all my cds again but i have some music on my ipad mini and am having problems importing this back into my itunes file. please help as this is dri

I have recently reset my laptop to factory settings and whilst doing so have lost my music files. I have uploaded my cds but am having trouble moving music from my ipad mini back to music file or itunes.

iTunes sync is one way from iTunes library to an iOS device.
You will need third party software such as TouchCopy to transfer from iOS to your computer.

  • HT4527 cannot access original itunes library. PC back to factory default settings

I'm using the same Toshiba laptop which has been returned (following a fault), to factory settings. I cannot get access via itunes, to my original music library when either ipod or ipad are connected.
I have an iPod Touch 4th gen and Apple iPad version 3.
The iPad has my original music library and videos on it. My ipod only has purchased music as now shown on the curreny itunes library.
How do re-trieve the original library?
    Alan (UK)

As far as the iPod know your restored computer is a new computer/new library.  If everything that is on your iPod is in the library on your restored computer let iTunes erase you iPod and replace its contents with what is now in your iTunes library.  If you have the iPod backup from your pre-restored iPod, you can restore your iPod from that backup to get your app data and other things back.  See the following fro the location of the backup file and what is in the backup.

  • I had to take my cmputer back to factory settings and lost my music. How do I get the songs that I have already purchased back?

I had to take my computer back to factory settings and I lost my music. How do I get my music that I previously back on Itunes?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Certainly you did not restore your computer without making sure that your backup copy was up to date.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • TS1424 I purchased the 2Pac All Eyez On Me (Remastered) album a few years back when it was released. I recently had to frag my computer and now when I redown load the album id downloading as a clean album instead of explicit how do I fix this?

I purchased the 2Pac All Eyez On Me (Remastered) album a few years back when it was released. I recently had to frag my computer and now when I redownload the album it's downloading as All Eyez On Me a clean album instead of explicit. The only ones that remained in explicit are the ones that I uploaded from my phone. How do I fix this?

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

  • I've had to reset my computer, how do I get my backups and music back?

I've had to reset my computer, how do I get my backups and music back?

It's a bit late now. You will need to use third-party software such as Phone to PC in order to transfer the files to your new iTunes library. For items purchased from the iTunes Store you can re-download them: Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • I recently had to have my computer wiped.  I cannot find the CD I backed up my I-Tunes library onto.  Is there any way to get my music back?

I recently had to have my computer hard drive wiped.  I backed up all my I-Tunes music but now I can't find the DVD or CD.  Is there any other way to get my music back?  Thank you for your help.

    Unfortunally not.
Although, if you bought them on iTunes you can redownload them.

When you reset to factory settings, the computer is de-authorised.
In iTunes menu Store > View Account > sign in > App Store > Deauthorise All.
Once done, authorise this computer iTunes.
Note: you can only do that once a year.
