Recently I was working on my home Network and lost myPassword for my Home wireless connection. After many attempts, I remembered thepassword and was able to get in. Now the MacBook Pro only works at home on aHard wire connection. I have an additional 9 devices on the same network, allare functioning properly. The Air connection works fine at any other Networksout side the Home connection. I did a PRAM reset, deleted the Network profileand rebuilt in System Preferences. Still unable to connect wireless on Homenetwork. Any Ideas?

I seem to have fixed it by putting <div  class="clearfloat"></div> after the navigation bar?

  • MacBook Pro only works near router...sometimes

I am wasting a good portion of my 39th year on this Earth trying to get my MacBook Pro to connect to my wireless. Comcast has come three times, and swears they aren't the problem.
For the last month and a half, my macbook pro only works near the Comcast router. During the prior two years, it worked throughout the house. I have a PC laptop that was working elsewhere in the house, but also stopped getting wi fi recently.
Now the PC works, but I still can't get Wifi on my macbook pro. My Kindle also can't connect to the wifi.
At one point, a technician suggested getting a netgear router, so I did...and that worked for a week, but now I'm back to the same problem.
The laptop gets wifi fine in cafes.
    Help!

    Hi Leroy
Thanks for the reply but if you read my OP, I've already tried what you suggested.
    Thanks again,

Your not weird, your a audiophile.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audiophile
Good sound costs money. And with a 5.1 system your usually doing surround sound decoding for BlueRay movies etc. for home theater purposes.
The PC 5.1 surround sound systems require a audio card in a PC tower and mainly used for playing 3D games so that won't work for any Mac at all. So don't buy a PC 5.1 surround sound system for your Mac.
Harmon Kardon has the GoPlay, it's a portable stereo with awesome sound (not as good as their theater systems) and you can hook up a analog male/male stereo mini cable to it from the Mac.
$200 and it has a iPod dock and also takes like 8 batteries so it's portable.
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002GHBTNC
There is also the Bose Wave clock/radio, you will need a stereo mini to RCA break out cable for that.

The GoPlay has much better sound than the Bose, I think the Bose are overpriced.

  • Ethernet port on MacBook Pro only works under certain conditions

Since I've purchased my MacBook Pro over two years ago now with an initial installment of OSX 10.5.x, I've had a small annoyance if while the OS was up and running and my physical network interface was disconnected and reconnected, a connection could not be reestablished until I shutdown, restart or put my Mac to sleep and woke it back up with the cable connected to the ethernet port. It would randomly work as it should if I connected and disconnected it over and over again until the machine decided I've stimulated it enough to allow me to use it. But it's recently become a real annoyance for me since the tab on my longest ethernet cable broke and it no longer locks it in place and now the slightest budge displaces the cable and I have to put the laptop to sleep often to reestablish a connection.
I would opt to Wi-Fi, but my Mac (surprise, surprise) out of 4 other laptops is the only one whose signal is too weak to use where I use them most. I've reinstalled the OS once to no avail months ago and the problem persisted after downgrading to Slowleopard a day after it's release.
Anyone have any ideas what may be going on? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello DavidJoyce
Best thing to do is to buy a new Cat 6 Ethernet cable.

  • Old macbook was able to get wifi signal, new macbook pro doesn't!

    please help!!
i cant get internet despite being able to on an old macbook a few days ago, my new one wont!

Bring it back to where you bought it or take it to an Apple store or AASP.

My worked out of the box. But, I found the following that might be helpful to you:
Phone calls in Yosemite actually work through the FaceTime application. As a result, users must ensure they are signed in to their Apple ID for FaceTime calls on both their iPhone and their Mac, and both devices must also be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

  • Can I Get A Replacement/New MacBook Pro Under AppleCare?

I have a refurbished, First Generation MacBook Pro. Don't ask how, but I've just recently begun to notice that it's suffering many of the problems the First Generations had including the heat problems, sometimes reaching 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit when doing simple web browsing with only Mail, iChat, and iTunes running in the background. Sometimes this happens even with only Firefox running. I'm also having the "whinning" problem.
    So my question is this....
Since I'm having these problems, will I be able to get a new/replacement MacBook Pro that isn't a First Gen under AppleCare? Or at least have something done to elliminate or at least reduce these problems?

Regardless of anyone having any similar experience, the final determination will be up to Apple, and each situation is different.
So why not just take the necessary steps to get it looked at? If you would have contacted Apple by now you'd be well on your way to diagnosing the problem (hardware or software), and getting the repair/replacement process started if need be?
    What troubleshooting have you done?

  • My macbook pro can see my home wi-fi network but cannot connect to it.  My iphone and ipad are connected to my home wi-fi so the problem is not the modem.

Wow, I tried to submit this as a problem and the computer lost the wifi connection again, so i lost the whole explanation i typed up.
I've turned off computer and modem multiple times.
When I tried to run the network diagnostic, the macbook pro gave me a "perhaps you are out of range error".  I am sitting next to the modem.
My iphone and ipad are wonderfully connected to the home wifi network, so it cannot be the modem/router, correct?
If I am on the same floor as the router/modem then the macbook pro can see my home network but after tyoing in my password and trying to connect i get a "timed out" message.
If I move down one floor, then the macbook can see and connect to the wifi.  I only have one modem on one floor.
Is there some sort of diagnostic I can run to see why this particular device (macbook pro) is behaving ths way?  It just seems weird because the computer could connect to the wifi network yesterday while i was sitting next to the router.

    SOLUTION!
I've been suffering from this problem for a few months.  I tried everything suggested by everyone, and then, today, I had a mad idea.
I used to work in a room in the house that's about 12 metres away from the router. It's on the next storey up and horizontally about 8 metres away.  The problem started when I began to work in the same room as the router.
Today I became so frustrated that for some reason I walked into a room about 8 metres away on the same level - Guess what?  I connected with no problem at all. Feeling full of joy I walked back to the room where the router is located - Dropped internet connection within a few minutes!  Walked back to the the room that's 8 metres away and, hey presto! I have a connection. I now realise that the problem was that I moved too close to the router.
I can think of no logical explanation for my experience, but empirically it seems to work.  Does anyone have the faintest idea of why this should be the case?  In the absence of an answer I think I may have to start believing in fairies at the bottom of the garden - I'm just off to set a meal for them.
By the way, I don't know if it has any significance, but the router is a BT Infinity router that has replaced the incredibly unreliable Virgin Media cable connection

  • I can't send emails remotely from my MacBook Pro - only from home.

I can't send emails from my MacBook Pro from anywhere but home. Suggestions??
    Thanks!
    KL

Typically that happens when your mail service provider is also your ISP, and you connect to it from another network. The SMTP server will allow connections without a password from anywhere, but it will only relay mail from within the ISP's network.
If you need to send mail from outside your ISP's network, use an independent mail service provider. I don't have a specific recommendation.

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

Lojack for laptops - if that is the product you purchased and installed, you will need to read the user manual or contact the manufacturer as it is 3rd party.  You did file a police report right?

Try resetting your modem. Power it down. Wait a moment, then power it up again. While it resets, do not change what is connected to it.
In another, though unrelated article, Apple recommends the following:
If you have configured your Wi-Fi base stations in the past, it may be helpful to do a factory default reset of each Wi-Fi base station that will be part of the wireless extended network before you begin.
This step really ought not be considered optional for the configuration you propose. If the problem persists after resetting your modem, reset everything else too.

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Setting>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Need help one USB Port on MacBook Pro not working

Its been a weak now and im getting tired of my MacBook pro USB not reading anything.. It wont read/connect usb drives, IPods/IPhones/IPads, and Android phones. I have tried the PRAM and SMC resets and nothing has worked i even left my Macbook pro off for a whole day. ITS ONLY ONE PORT NOT WORKING, i took it to bestbuy because its closest to me but geek squad just did what i explained above and told me get a USB hub and NO! i want to fix this issue... Anyone has had this happen can you let me know if its because the USB port is no longer working or a software issue... Also i keep getting this notification telling me USB devices disabled draining to much power but i have nothing connected!!
ps- my MacBook Pro is getting very hot fast and it happens when im not even using it, i get home and it very hot could there be another hardware failure i dont leave applications open when i sleep it.

It sounds like you might have a hardware problem. Your best bet is to go to the Genius Bar. The evaluation is free, and they'll fix it if you're under Applecare. Back up your stuff first though.

  • Is there any updates since February 2014 re: macbook pro not working with Smartboard?

My computer recognizes that it is attached but will not display what is on the desktop. I am currently running Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro and trying to project in onto a Smart Board 600 series.  The MacBook Pro used to work with Smart Board; now, all of a sudden it does not work.  And, sometimes it will project, but many times it simply will not.  I am using a brand new adapter, and projection works with my Epson Powerlite 78 at home.
Smart Board refers me to Apple Support believing the conflict to be hardware.  Incidentally, I downloaded Smartboard software to my MacBook Pro previously, but uninstalled it because it was causing crashes to my computer. But, users do not have to download SmartBoard software for projection.
Are there any possible solutions to my inquiry?  Thank you for any considerations.

Hi, well basically our family got BT infinity about 2 weeks ago, and it worked with my macbook for about 3 days or so, but after that just suddenly stopped working. It says it's connected in airport and gives full connection, but chrome, spotify, skype, etc do not work. However the rest of the computers in the house which run on windows do work. For the last week or so I have been using a neighbour's open wireless (Netgear) which has been pretty consistent if a little slow. So basically, is there anything i can do? i've pretty extensively looked at all the forums regarding MBPs and routers, and it seems it may be a mac fault (meaning i may be in the wrong forum.) but any help would be appreciated. thanks.
    Hi there,
It sounds to me like you're having troubles with the wireless channels on the Home Hub.
Here's what I'd suggest you do: Download istumbler on your Mac (or inssider 2 on your PC) and use this to check which wireless channel you're currently on and if need be, change to a less congested channel.
    I hope this info helps.
