Recently in Windows 7 (BootCamp), the internet connection got slower.

I've been using Boot Camp for months then all of a sudden my internet (only in boot camp) got way slower than it should be.
Using Speedtest.net, I get 120ping~, 7Mbps download speed and 1.3~ upload speed. While in contrast on the Mac OS, 14 ping, 23.79 Mbps and 4.22 Mbps upload speed.

It is still a modem/router or configuration issue.
I don't see how just posting numbers though tells the story or why. Not enough to go by.
I use my cable ISP online forum and have them help, they can usually 'see' the modem, and what is happening.
Take the router out of the picture if possible and connect directly to modem and not using wifi.
For reference I get 30Mb down but 2Mb up and 40ms. Wifi is about half that with higher ping.

Resetting Airport Extreme disabled my home network. Now when i attempt to get to internet with iPad, or iPhone, I see an Earthlink (ISP) window with message: The internet connection is currently in use by another computer (nun.nn.n.nn) Enter your DSL Account logon psassword to switch the internet connection to this computer. If I do that, other messages follow. I am usually able to switch connection, but can have only one device on internet at a time. Tried to correct problem using Airport Utility, but failed.

Unfortunately, there is mass confusion about whether a device might be a modem or a modem/router since the terms are mixed up all the time. Even though a device might have only one Ethernet port, it can still be a router.
    If this is your "modem".......
    http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/netopia-cayman-3341-router/4507-3319_7-30484785. html
It is not a modem.....it is a modem/router. If that is the case, then the AirPort Extreme is not the only router on your network....it is one of two routers, and it should be configured to operate in Bridge Mode.
Does this device appear to be your "modem"?

  • Local mac-to-mac transfers goes through the internet connection (very slow)

Transfering files from my iMac to my MacBook Air (or the opposite way) over my local Time Capsule wireless network is extremely slow. I connect to my MacBook Air using my local username account on that machine (which is the same as on the iMac). When I click on the connected MacBook Air again (under shared in Finder’s left column) it says I'm connected as [email protected] (my MobileMe address). Transfers then goes with around 50KB/s which is the same as my outbound capacity on my internet connection. If I disconnect the internet from the Time Capsule I get transfers around 2.2MB/s.
I can’t actually log in as a local user on my other local machine. It goes through the internet no matter how I log in. Back To My Mac is even turned off on both machine.
    How can I fix this?

You actually are close enough to their 3meg down that you can't complain. 2.8meg down and 700kb up is fine, unless it's supposed to be their FIOS that is.
Sounds like it is the site(s) that are slow, like these boards at times.

  • For a LAN network in my office, all laptops are Windows based and the internet is through LAN and other computer get connected with adhoc without the router. My Apple computer nor my iPhone 5 get connected. How do I connect to this Internet?

In the office, All my colleges use Windows laptops. The Internet connection is out of LAN wire installed in one of the computers. Others use Internet by creating adhoc connection. However none of the apple products are being able to connect to this connection. How can i connect my MacBook Pro or iPhone 5 to this Internet network?

Just how is the one computer connecting to the internet? What type of connection does the office have, DSL, Cable or is it a Data connection through a Cell phone provider.
I doubt all other computer are doing Ad-Hoc but are probably Sharing the Internet connection with Internet Connection Sharing from that one Windows base PC.
All you khave to do is Connect to that same WiFi SSID name and have the correct password for it.

  • HT3546 Although I am connected to the internet via Airport the internet connection does not stay on and comes with a "time-out" message. The airport connection is still on however. I have recently bought an old Mac Book 1.1.

I have recently bought an old Mac Book after having purchased an iPhone and iPad.
The internet connection (via Airport) keeps timing out while the Airport connection is still on as confirmed by the Mac and shown on the task bar.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,

Only fixed this in the last day or two . . .with this!

  • Windows APP without real internet connection stops working in time

Windows APP without real internet connection stops working in time
    Hello all,
I am trying to get the following to work. We have an intranet page which users need to connect to, to operate some machines. This is done through an windows 8.1 Tablet with an assigned KIOSK mode app (Kios SP Browser).
This works great as the assigned app is the only thing the user can run and we don't have to really harden the device. One drawback in using the assigned apps is that it needs to be an New App (as Microsoft call it)
The app is installed on an reference machine which runs in workgroup mode (no domain connection is needed on the devices) and after the reference machine is installed it is imaged with the use of Acronis. After deployment the tablet has no connection to
internet and the intranet page is wireless put available to the tablets. As a side note, the tablet operates with local accounts and the app is installed using an corporate hotmail account we created just for this purpose.
I now deployed the image over 20 different tablet devices and this worked great until recently a few devices start to complain it needs to connect to the windows shop before the app can be started. As the devices don't have internet access this can't be
done and the tablet is rendered useless for the user.
How can i make the app available without internet connection ? and how can i be sure the app will continue to work over time without connection to the store ?

    Thanks for the reply.
I can't unblock the internet connection as the wireless network doesn't have any internet connection what so ever. The main purpose is to be able to operate the machinery and nothing else, hence the kios app which is being used to show the intranet page
which connects than to the devices.
The problem is that after imaging the app works as expected but after a few days the app stops to work ...
I found the following website over site loading an app without the needed appx files. It shows an way to capture the files during installation from the windows store.
    https://www.404techsupport.com/2014/06/installing-free-windows-8-modern-apps-without-the-windows-store/
It is a bit strange to have it this difficult to install apps without the needed store and i think that Microsoft should make this easier. I hope this works better and after a few days i will give the feedback how this handles..
If anyone knows of a better way .....

  • My iMac drops the internet connection but mantains the wi-fi network.

I have a late 2011, 2.7GHz Intel Core i5, 27" iMac with 4GB Ram. When I power up the computer everything goes great, but after 3 or 4 hours (top) the internet connection stops working; and by this I DO NOT MEAN that the network utility turns off, or that it doesn't detect any netwoks. On the contrary,  the computer stays connected to the wi-fi network and detects everything, but it simply has no internet connection; it even stops communicating with my iphone through itunes (with the wi-fi sync option), and crashes LAN games when i try to play at home. When this occured for the first times I just turned off and back on the network utility, but the problem continued and I had to keep turning off and on the network (it wouldn't stay connected for more than 5 minutes). I  checked with my laptop (the last alluminum macbook ever available, as well as with my mom's black macbook) when the internet stopped working in the iMac (just to check that there were no issues regarding my ISP) and the internet connection just worked great in it, and it didn't drop at all! It also worked perfectly with my dad's windows XP dinosaur laptop.
At the beggining I thought my wi-fi router had gone bad, so I changed it for a brand new wireless-n ready router (it turned out that i wasted 180 dollars, because this wasn't the issue, and I had already trashed my old router). At first, I used the wireless-n feature, but other gadgets stopped working with this type (a play station 3 and a nintendo wii). I then configured it with a mixed mode, and everything has worked perfectly (including both macbooks, an ipad 2, an iphone 4s, 4 blackberries, a play station 3, a nintendo wii, 2 network printers, 1 network scanner, a 3TB network hard disk and 3 led tvs that come network ready, along with their respectives network ready surround soundbars).... EXCEPT FOR MY IMAC! So DEFINETELY MY ROUTER IS NOT THE PROBLEM.
I've been an avid apple user for almost 10 years now, and this is the first time I encounter this type of problem (it's my first iMac), so I'm pretty much out of logical options. I've already moved my router closer to the computer, I moved my wi-fi connection to the top of the list in the network utility.
I even had to re-write this whole message again because i clicked on "Post message" and it had no internet connection, so it displayed a no-internet alert in my browser.............
    PLEASE! HELP!!!!
PS: all my apple gadgets are always up to date.

    I FINALLY SOLVED THIS ISSUE!!!!
New routers have "mixed" modes for your network; this means that it will automatically choose the best option between wireless-B, wireless-G and wireless-N network modes. I used to experience this issue using the 2.4 GHz. mixed mode wireless network.
Thankfully, my router can create 2 networks: a 2.4 GHz. network and a 5 GHz. network.
When I randomly changed this value to "use only wireless-B and wireless-G" trying to fix an issue with a wi-fi expander, the iMac wi-fi  issue dissapeared! I tried it with wireless-N only, but it didn't work.
So, finally, I have a 2.4 GHz network with only wireless-B and wireless-G modes which works PERFECT with the iMac, and a 5 GHz. network with a mixed* wireless mode for everything else mode.
*PD: by "mixed" mode it means that the router will automatically choose between B, G and N network modes as it fits better.

  • Why do i keep getting the "internet connection timeout" error message?

i have been upgrading a few standard itunes albums to itunes plus versions through my 3g mobile broadband connection, while not exactly a fast process, it was working fine until i started to get a backlog of 3 or 4 albums which were waiting in a queue to be downloaded, now every time i do the "check for downloads" option i get the "internet connection timed out" error message...this has been going on for 2 days! am i right in suspecting the backlog of albums is too much for my 3g mobile broadband connection? this is really doing my head in, if any of you techies could help me, it'd be much appreciated...?

yes i have recently updated to itunes 8.2.1, but i am starting to think its apple's servers (i tried to download at my brothers house...different computer and connection...same connection timeout error), because it will still let me download an album, but not necessarily all of the tracks. when i questioned itunes customer services about the seemingly hit and miss state of affairs with downloading, they told me to wait 3 weeks before trying to download the tracks that were giving me the grief (2 tracks from an arctic monkeys album)...which kinda indicates they know there is a problem and are trying to fix it, why else would they say wait 3 wks??? they gave me 5 free music tracks too, which is handy.

  • Boot Camp Windows 8.1 WiFi Internet Connectivity

I have a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) running Yosemite, and I have installed Windows 8.1 via Boot Camp.
Most everything on my Windows OS works well, but I'm hitting an odd problem with the Internet connectivity. Sometimes, I can only get to certain sites in Internet Explorer, and NOT through Firefox or Chrome. And now, after initially installing a few days ago, I can no longer connect to the Internet via my Evernote, Dropbox, or Git apps.
Has anyone else out there experienced something similar? It could be that this is just a Windows issue and I need to post a similar query elsewhere, but I thought I would start here. I don't see any errors anywhere in my Device Manager, and I even manually added Evernote to list of apps that is supposed to be able to access the Internet via a private connection, but still no joy.

    1. Your MBA does not support EFI/Free Space method.
    2. You need to ensure that your USB is a USB2 device.
    3. The MBR should be checked, because there are known cases where BCA fails to create the MBR.

  • My iPad keeps loosing the internet connection. All of my other devices work. Last time this happened, comcast charged $49 to fix it. They said that it's somethin that I downloaded. How can I get back my internet connection on my iPad ?

My iPad keeps loosing the internet connection. Last time this happened comcast charged $49 to fix it. They said that the problem was perhaps caused by something that I down loaded. All my other devices still connected to internet. Tried to reset my settings. Still won't work. Any advice ?

First, changing your DNS settings could not possibly have any effect on this problem.
When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, from the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.

  • **** rid my pooter of the internet connect pop up

    hello,
the popup window for "internet connect" haunts this computer.
can you help me get rid of it?
this is a imac g5 power pc. currently running 10.4.7
    about to be running 10.4.8
there is no internal modem. only an ethernet port.
there are only the following options in system preferences > network > show >
    NETWORK STATUS
    BLUETOOTH
    BUILT IN FIREWIRE
    BUILT IN ETHERNET
    AIRPORT
    NETWORK PORT CONFIGURATIONS
what is making the internet connect window pop up?
in bluetooth > bluetooth modem : an apple internal 56k is listed, with no option to turn it off.
    bluetooth is configured over ppp
(the only bluetooth in use is keyboard and mouse)
in built in ethernet >tcp/ip we are configured over dhcp. no proxies, no pppoe and apple talk IS active
built in firewire > tcp/ip is configured over dhcp
airport> tcp/ip is configured over ppp and airport> pppoe : connect using ppp is checked
thanks for any help in this ghostbusting.
    w

    I'd start by trashing...
    /Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
Then Reboot and setup again your Network(s).
