Recently installed updates - now iMac completely freezes up randomly

I recently installed a bunch of updates, including the 10.5.6 combo update (I think I was on 10.5.4 before then), RAW, QT, iTunes, iLife '08, iWork '08 updates, etc. I've been running skype, ichat, itunes, mail, safari, and occasionally pages in the background. I'm not doing anything crazy - I might have one or 2 docs pulled up in pages and 1 several page spreadsheet pulled up in Numbers. Randomly now my computer has completely locked up for no clear reason -- the mouse cursor disappears and the mouse and keyboard illicit no responses on screen despite all the apps still being up (even trying to force quit doesn't work as the key combo doesn't even bring up any menus). The computer just completely freezes and becomes on responsive. I've had to restart my computer using the power button both times now.
After the updates both disk utility and Onyx gave my system a clean bill of health. However, I did have issues installing the Quicktime and iTunes 8.1 updates -- Software update kept saying the installers were moved to the trash and thus couldn't open them even though that hadn't been dragged to the trash. I had to manually open both installers and run each of the packages separately.
I'm on a iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB or RAM - it's gen prior to the latest just released by Apple.
Has anyone had this issue? I think it might be related to Numbers, but I'm really not sure. ...I should have never updated.

Do you Repair Disk Permissions before and after installation of updates?
When you install updates do you leave the Mac alone to install the updates or are you multitasking and the updates are in the background?
Have you reset the NVRAM? Restart and press and hold CommandOption+PR until you hear a second startup chime, then release.
Forced shut downs are damaging to the directory. It is a good idea to boot from the Install DVD and use Disk Utility in the Utilities menu of the Installer to Repair Disk.

It's possible that you need new drivers from HP, in order to be compatible with OS X 10.8.3. Looking at HP website, they haven't released new drivers since last November. You might need to wait for new drivers or contact HP to push for an update.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Why does 10.9.1 appear twice in list of recently installed updates?

Today I installed the 10.9.1 update (German) on a MBP13 late 2013 that already had 10.9
No functional problems so far - but the 10.9.1 update ist listed two times in the App Store's list of recently installed updates.
I am not sure if something went wrong with the update, or if its only some display issue in the update list.
Is this something I have to worry about?

Both entries in the list of installed apps are labled "MacBook Pro with Retina Display (Late 2013)".
Hopefully this is just some sort of mix up with an already started/running download in the background and the manually triggered download.
In my App Store settings, I previously enabled "search for updates, download in the background & notify when available".
I did not get any notification - I just opend the "updates" section of the App Store manually and it showed that 10.9.1 is available. When I clicked "Laden" (German for Download), a dialog opened telling me that the Mac will have to be restarted and that other current downloads would be cancelled (I had no evidence of any other download). When I cancelled the dialog, the 10.9.1 downloaded started, indicated with a progress bar... although I cancelled the dialog...
But as everything else is fine as of know, I'll just ignore it.

I recently tried updating my iMac, now when I power up it keeps telling me to restart the computer. How can I fix this on my own?

I tride installing updates for my iMac, and now when I try to turn it on it just comes up with a small window that tells me to turn off, then back on the computer. Is there a way I can fix this on my own?

Do you have any backups of your system prior to do those updates? If so revert them out. Or reinstall the system from your recovery partition.
The reason for this is those updates clobbered a log of people:

So the only solution is to get them out of there and the only way to do that is revert your system.

Installed updates, now disk drive rejects

I accepted the four recent Apple update. Immediately, disk drive now rejects all disks, after playing with them for about 15 seconds. Also, Safari/Airport doesn't automatically sign on my network. What's the deal with the updates? Running 10.4.11 on Powerbook G4, PowerPC G4 1.1, 133 GHz, 2 Meg. Never had any problems until the latest updates.

Is that with the Install DVD inserted?

To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup. Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
(space between fsck and -fy important)
1. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found: ** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK  If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message: *** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***   Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
2. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.

Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

Recent Windows Update make Flash player freeze Internet Explorer

Hello guys,
I've run an Windows Update of a Windows 2008R2 Terminal server last night and these updates cause Internet Explorer freeze on every website which contains flash animation.
If I disable FLash module, the problem disappers (but no more flash animation ).
As Flash 11.4 was previously installed, I've try to replace it with a newer version of flash 11.5, but this don't solved my issue.
Do you know how can I solve my issue ?
Can I provide you some debug log to help you ? (And how can I get these debug log ?)

Installed updates, now coputer won't start

I clicked on install updates and then it wanted me to reboot, so I clicked on reboot. Now my computer will not start, a blue screen came up and it said " that a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer". I turned the computer off for about 4 timesa and this message still comes up.
What is the problem and how can I fix this problem?

First, try safe mode and setup check disk in the command prompt. (Start - Run - type in "cmd" - type "chkdsk /F /R /B" and hit enter, say yes and restart the computer. Check disk will run and hopefully you can boot into Windows again.
Next, try using safe mode and uninstalling updates listed under Control Panel - Programs and Features - View Installed Updates - and remove one update at a time (starting with the latest); restart the computer and try to load Windows normally until you find the update that caused the problem.

I installed updates (itunes 10.5, Safari 5.1.1 and Security update 2011-006 1.0) now I can't get on the internet, Why???

Well if it doesn't see the network in the WiFi drop down... then we got problems. Move it closer to the router...

Recent software update ,now limewire doesn't work

Software update popped up today just a safari and java update, cliked update
now limewire wont work, i tried to open, but it "jumps" once then stops. and nothing happens.
from what searching i did do, I'm guessing java is the problem :S
is there anyway i can undo the update
or has anyone got a fix
