Recently my photoshop CS3 became inaccessible.
I have CS3 master suite and I use Windows Vista. Recently my Photoshop CS 3 stopped working after many years without hitches. I have tried repairing it; uninstalling and then reinstalling - but it has now failed to install. The same happened with the 'After Effects' program. The rest of the CS3 suite 'appears' to be OK.
Any suggestions please? Just wasted the best part of a full morning trying to rover the programs :-(

uninstall anything cs3 that is installed, clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and then reinstall.

Photoshop CS3 extremely slow opening files
Recently my Photoshop CS3 Extended has been taking an extremely long time to open files of all sizes as well as to create a new document. It takes several minutes to open files. While Photoshop is attempting to open, the program is unresponsive.

Ram: 4G
Processor: AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-86 2.4GHzThat's good advice from John there Liz and if you really lose patience, uninstall the whole thing and re-install it. You should get your original speed back then - I'm assuming that all your other programs are running normally.

Completely remove all traces of Photoshop CS3 Extended
I have recently installed Photoshop CS3 Extended but there was a problem with the serial number on the box. Adobe have issued me a new serial number to use. I uninstalled it all but when i reinstalled it, the original serial number is still there. How do i completely remove all traces of Photoshop CS3 Extended from my computer so that i can reinstall it with my new serial number? This is a full retail version used on a Windows XP system. Recently updated to Lion, now Photoshop (CS3) no longer opens. How can I fix this?
I recently updated my operating system on my Mac to Lion and apparently hadn't opened PS since that time. When I attempted to open a file in PS today, it immediately crashed. I tried several times to open the program as well as multiple file types to no avail. Consistently crashed each time. I don't know enough about Mac's to figure out this probelm and would appreciate any and all help!

Hello! I use Photoshop CS3 and Yosemite. Recently, after logging info information into the FILE INFO panel, I am unable to close out the window. I am able to save & close out the image, but then I have to completely close Photoshop and re-open the program to work on a new image. Frustrating! Any help to remedy this problem? Many thanks!
Try resetting the Photoshop preference file: Press and hold Cmd+Opt+Shift and start Photoshop. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

Nikon D300 Raw files for 64bit windows vista machine not appearing in Photoshop CS3 raw
I purchased a new 64bit computer running Vista. I have installed Photoshop CS3 including the latest updates and the 4.6 (Camera Raw.8bi) raw update file. I included the raw file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats. I have purged cache in Bridge and I still cannot view the raw files in Bridge. I only see a gray square with a Blue NEF. I can open the files in Photoshop however. What can I do to see the files in Bridge?

A news item posted on Sunday by PhotoshopNews.com reports on comments from Thomas Knoll, one of the original authors of Adobe Photoshop, relating to the RAW file format used in Nikon's D2X and D2Hs digital SLRs.

Thomas Knoll is currently the chief engineer for Adobe Camera Raw, the company's RAW file conversion software. The PhotoshopNews item references a forum thread started by Mr. Knoll in Adobe's official user forums, where he reveals that .NEF RAW files from the latest Nikon digital SLRs encrypt data relating to the white balance setting the photo was shot with.
RAW file formats vary significantly between digital camera manufacturers (and often, between different models in a manufacturer's lineup), and the manufacturers generally won't publicly disclose the specification for the RAW file format(s) they use. Some will offer plugins or software development kits (SDKs) that enable their RAW files to be opened in third-party applications, but these generally have some limitations attached to their use.
In addition, the companies generally offer RAW file conversion software of their own, either as part of their camera bundles or as an added-cost option. Nikon offer their pro SLRs with PictureProject software that includes limited control over the RAW file conversion process, and then offer the more feature-rich Nikon Capture conversion software for an added cost. In a recent publication on the company's Nikon Pro website, it suggested that it feels Nikon Capture is better-suited to photographers, while Adobe's Photoshop is more suited to graphic artists. Still, different photographers have different workflow preferences, and for this reason third parties such as Adobe often reverse engineer the RAW file formats, allowing them to be opened in their own software - sometimes with even better image quality than the original manufacturer's software.
In a way, it is understandable that companies would want to encrypt RAW file data from their products - it allows them to pick and choose which competitors are able to open RAW files shot with their products, and allows them to generate new revenue streams from the sale of their own RAW file conversion software (or, if they choose, the sale of licenses allowing competitor programs to access their RAW file data). Nikon is not the first company we're aware of to encrypt data in RAW files; Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-F828 RAW files contain encrypted data. In that instance, however, Sony granted permission for Adobe to decrypt the data in their software. At the current time, Mr. Knoll states that while Adobe has signed a non-disclosure agreement that grants them access to use Nikon's SDK, they have not received any response to requests from Adobe that the company be allowed to decrypt the white balance data, which would allow closer integration with their software than is possible with the SDK.
The fact that Nikon has chosen to encrypt a portion of the RAW file data would not be particularly problematic for third parties to overcome, were it not for certain laws enacted around the world in recent years. One such law is the United States' "Digital Millennium Copyright Act", often referred to as the DMCA, which makes it illegal to produce technology that can circumvent measures designed to protect copyright. One could argue that Nikon's encryption of the white balance data is just such a measure - which would make it an offense for a third party without permission to make software that could decrypt the original white balance setting used by the camera when the photo was shot. One could equally argue, however, that the copyright over the RAW file belongs to the photographer who captured the image - and hence the choice over what is done with that copyrighted work is entirely up to the photographer.
Unfortunately, there's no clear-cut answer, and short of a company or programmer finding themselves in court for having cracked the encryption, there isn't likely to be such an answer any time soon. This presents a problem for third parties attempting to make their own RAW file conversion routines for the D2X and D2Hs, as if they don't want to risk opening themselves up to legal action, they aren't able to determine the original white balance setting. Hence, they must either request the white balance setting from the user as the RAW file is converted, or attempt to determine an appropriate white balance setting automatically (which would not necessarily be the same as that determined by the camera itself).
Nikon hasn't communicated their reasons for encrypting the white balance information in their latest NEF formats, but we have to say it doesn't sound like a very good idea. While Nikon Capture does indeed offer excellent capabilities for people to manipulate images saved in NEF formats, many photographers and organizations have already established workflows based on Adobe's RAW plugin for Photoshop and other image-processing tools. The biggest consequence of this move on Nikon's part seems likely to be to push more photographers onto other camera platforms. It's hard to imagine that increased sales of Nikon Capture will make up the revenue lost from camera and lens sales going forward. -
Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended Trial
Hi guys, I've recently downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended. When I select the trial period for 30 days instead of buying the product, it says that Adobe cannot continue and it's having trouble loading the trial. I reinstalled it and restarted my computer, like it said, and nothing worked. Please help, I cannot afford Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended right now, and I do not support piracy at all.
I've tried to install the program from a different directory, I think my windows installer is crashing every time i try to install it, maybe I find a working hotfix for it.
I followed these steps when i tried to install ps:

Adobe Photoshop CS3 - Problem with Trial
I recently downloaded and installed Adobe Photoshop CS3 directly from Adobe as it is the latest version my Mac supports. Upon start up, I am greeted with two options: a) I have a serial number for this product. and b) I want to try Adobe Photoshop CS3 free for 30 days. Seeing how I am simply looking to evaluate and have not purchased said product, I selected option b.
However, upon clicking "Next >" I am greeted by an error. "Problem with Trial" I am left with nothing but wasted time. This is the first time I have ever installed Adobe Photoshop CS3 so I do not understand why it will only allow access with a serial number. Any help to allow me to try this software is appreciated.
Thanks.Could the trial have a time bomb in it that prevents use after several years? There's not much of a need for Adobe to allow trials to run for so long after the product's life cycle has concluded.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended Activation Problem
Hi all, hoping someone can help me.
I have a legitimate hard copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended which was only recently taken out of its sealed package.
On installing and trying to activate I get an error. Now i am left with a window telling me "Registration Unsuccessful"
Any ideas how i can go about solving this? I legally own this copy and I need to use it and can't do with it deactivating.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
I recently purchased a new desktop computer and installed Adobe CS3 Master Edition on it and I get the following error:
Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Out of the entire suite of tools only Photoshop will not launch. The weird thing is i also had the same Adobe programs installed on my laptop and I have not made any installation updates to that machine and i am getting the same error. I have always installed the same software on my two home machines with no problem until now. Any help is appreciated.

Photoshop CS3 - Opens photos very slow
Alright so I have an interesting one I am hoping someone can help me with... I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 (I know, a little behind). I have been using CS3 since it came out and love it - however recently, and unfortunately I don't have any real time-frames off the top of my head, it is incredibly slow to open photos.
Typically I drag/drop a photo from my folders into Adobo to begin my editing based on the pictures I see fit to edit. The pictures come from a Canon T2i - I dump them to my local HDD, and then move the photos I wish to edit into Photoshop. The average file size is about 7mb, so they're not huge. Now when I open the pictures, it takes, on average, about a minute and a half per picture to open. During this time Adobe is non-responsive as in menus, navigation, etc... - I can minimize and maximize, it doesn't freeze or anything. Just sits there while it attempts to open these photos (using no more than 3% processor time). It does eventually open them, no errors.
This problem happens whether I drag drop into photoshop, open from the file menu, whether they're RAW images, JPEG, GIF, PNG, PSD, 10mb in size or 10kb in size, etc...
I know it's not the system, everything else runs great.
The system is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system, 8GB of Ram, dual core process (1.86ghz each), dual nVidia GeForce GTX 275 (512mb each) video cards that are running with nVidia's latest drivers.
The system is installed on a Western Digital 10,000RPM HDD and I have 6TB of hard-drives (all internal SATA) where my files are stored. I'd fine it hard to believe if it's the system.
I can play graphic intensive games without glitches, run Microsoft ICE for image sewing (without hesitation), and edit/dump HD videos without problems into Sony Vegas Video.
I have attempted to reset of Adobe Photoshop by doing the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT while loading and allowing complete reset. I turned of all Windows 7 effects (even though this issue never happened before when I had Windows 7 since launch). I set the Photoshop.exe to the highest priority in task manager, alloted 88% RAM to it through Adobe preferences, and ensured that both processors are given full attention it. Still nothing.
Has anyone experience this before? Outside of un-installing and re-installing (which is next) - I can't think of anything else...themrkik wrote:

Just to be clear, did you get a prompt from Photoshop confirming preferences deletion? I ask because sometimes folks think they've done a reset without having seen that dialog, and that's not the case. You have to be VERY quick to get Photoshop to notice you've pressed these keys during startup. If it doesn't prompt you, you weren't quick enough.
Some other things to think about:
Is your default printer offline? Is there any printer installed in your system that's offline?
Do you have the Twain driver installed but a scanner is turned off or missing?
Are there any network drives established but the network resource is offline or unreachable?
What 3rd party plug-ins do you have installed into Photoshop? Is it possible one of them is not initializing properly?

Photoshop CS3 color management "Save for Web" problem
This problem is getting the best of me.......
After spending 3 full days researching this problem, I am no closer to finding an answer than when I started. I still cannot produce a usable image through the "Save for Web" feature of Photoshop CS3. I have read web page after web page of "Tips, Tricks and Recommendations" from dozens of experts, some from this forum, and still I have no solution... I am exhausted and frustrated to say the least. Here's the simple facts that I know at this point.
I have a web design project that was started in PS CS1. All artwork was created in photoshop and exported to JPG format by using "Save for Web". Every image displays correctly in these browsers (Safari, Camino, FireFox and even Internet Explorer on a PC).
I have recently upgraded to PS CS3 and now cannot get any newly JPG'd image to display correctly. My original settings in CS1 were of no concern to me at the time, because it always just worked, and so I do not know what they were. I have opened a few of my previous images in CS3 and found that sRGB-2.1 displays them more or less accurately. I am using sRGB 2.1 working space. Upon openning these previous image files, I get the "Missing Profile" message and of course I select "Leave as is. Do Not color manage". CS3 assumes sRGB-2.1 working space, opens the file, and all is well.
The problem is when I go to "Save for Web", the saturation goes up, and the colors change. The opposite of what most people are reporting. Here's another important point... new artwork created in CS3 does exactly the same thing, so it's not because of the older CS1 files.
I have tried every combination of "uncompensated color", "Convert to sRGB", "ICC Profile", etc. while saving. I have Converted to sRGB before saving, and my monitor is calibrated correctly.
I have tried setting the "Save for Web" page on 2-up and the "original" on the left is already color shifted before I even hit the "Save" button. Of course, the "Optimized" image on the right looks perfect because I am cheating by selecting the "Use Document Color Profile" item. Why do they even have this feature if doesn't work, or misleads you?
Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening here? Why is this all so screwed up?
CS1 worked fine out of the box.
Final note: I do have an image file I could send along that demonstrates how it is possible to display an image exactly the same in all 4 of the browsers I mentioned with no color differences. It is untagged RGB and somehow it just works.

This has further confused the issue on several points, not the least of which version PS you are doing this with?

That is your strongest clue...it sounds like you have a bad system or bad monitor profile. To rule out the monitor profile: Set sRGB as your monitor profile in System Prefs> Displays> Color.

That doesn't make sense, stripping an embedded AdobeRGB profile should desaturate the color in Softproof MonitorRGB, especially the reds -- you have something wacky going on there.
At this point I think you need to review the links and get a grip about how color management and profiles work...
BTW, forget about setting ColorSync in PS COlor Settings, use Adobe ACE.

</crash>It's trying to load a library or plugin that is corrupt, and crashes in the OS loading code. Whatever that corrupt binary might be, it isn't loaded yet - so we don't know what it might be.
Best to disable all plugins and see if that solves it. Then do a disk verification to make sure you don't have other corruption on your disk. -
Photoshop CS3 Extended - freezes after few minutes
Greetings.
Ive recently decided to give Photoshop CS3 a try. However, i am experiencing urecoverable crashes (Windows freezes, have to restart the pc) when performing various actions. It seems to be happening only when something is going on in/with the document window, or when any modifications are made to the opened image. Using menus and other interface elements doesnt seem to cause any problems. The crashes usually happen a few minutes after the software has loaded.
Specifications:
Intel Core2Duo 3,16GHz
2GB RAM
GF 8800GTS
WindowsXP SP2
All latest drivers>i'm not sure what you mean when you say "crashes". is it locking up? ending or what? just photoshop or your whole system?
As already said, the display freezes and the whole system becomes unresponsive. I can see the mouse and everything that was on screen prior to crash, but i cannot do anything.

>If you computer is locking up to the point that your mouse does not move then you are simply having hardware issues or driver issues on a low level. It may only happen when using PS, but that is simply because PS is asking something of your system that the other programs don't.
Then it seems it would be best to ask on nvidia/graphic card specific forums.
I have also downloaded Photoshop CS2, same thing as with CS3. I am going to try CS1 as well, but im guessing it will be the same. Photoshop 7.0 works without any problems.
