Recently Played form iPod to iTunes Manually

Hi there.
I was wondering how I can merge the recently played file from my iPod to iTunes.
So that I have the recently played iPod tracks together with the recently played iTunes (but not the other way)?
I'm using the manually sync because I don't want to sync anything else...
example:
Listening to song A,B,C on my iPod
Listening to song B on iTunes
The recently played on iPod showes now: A,b,c and iTunes:b
now I'd like to update the iTunes recently played so it'll show: a,2xb,c
I hope you know what I mean.

I'm using the manually sync because I don't want to sync anything else...
Confused...
In iTunes, create a playlist of songs and Automatically sync only that playlist.
Next time you plug in, the playcount, rating and such will sync up.

  • Recently played list different on iTunes and iPod touch

So I recently got an iPod touch (8GB) and when I sync it to my iTunes (9.0.2.25) every other playlist downloads fine, except for my "Recently Added" and "top 30 most played" playlists. What I mean is the list of songs in those playlists is fine on iTunes, but on the iPod touch it is a different list of songs under those playlist titles.
    Anyone help?

Yeah, it's kind of frustrating. What to do when you start from scratch and the problem still persists?
I've never run into that on a Mac for example. If you reformat and rebuild something it usually handles every situation. Here it's isolated to a couple Smart Playlists, not every Smart Playlist. Unless there's something inherently askew with the OS upgrade and a Most Played & Recently Played list.
I'm going to have to try another User forum to see if it's common or known buggy. I'll keep you posted if I learn anything.

  • Purchased music will not play on iPod after iTunes 6.0.1 (3)

After upgrading to iTunes 6.0.1 (3) and then syncing my iPod Photo I can no longer play songs purchased in iTunes on my iPod (cds copied to iTunes play fine). The music (and album art) for the iTunes purchased shows up on the iPod, but the iPod just quickly cycles through any purchased music without playing it - this applies to all purchased music (recently purchased and stuff purchased 9 months ago when I got my iPod). The music plays fine using iTunes on my laptop. I have the latest firmware update on the iPod Photo (1.2).
    Any thoughts/help are appreciated.

seems like Apple wants us to illegaly obtain the songs from now on. You know the story about starving musician, poor janitor at studio, well it is not important now.
I am done with being cool, now i want something that will actually work. lets see how long will it take for iTunes update to come accros, and will anyone in Apple say we are sorry guys, we screwed up. hmmm, maybe refund for all the songs you purchased would be fair, you know guys we sold you and told you it will work on your coputer, but look surprise they dont. no, not even crappy explanation, just new update.

Since i havea macbook pro i thought it was about time i transferred all of my music onto that anyway but im wondering how i can get the songs from the ipod to the mac?
I would love it if anybody could tell me of any programs or anything that may come in handy.
    Thanks

iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • IPod touch won't play ANY music, only skips. All music plays when FROM ipod when plugged into iTunes. No, songs are not corrupt, I was playing an album through iTunes from my iPod and for no reason iTunes froze and now I'm having issues with my iPod.

So I was playing an album from my iPod through iTunes like normal, and the album ended. I switched to iTunes view to change to a new one and it said "iPod is done syncing" (I did not choose to sync, nor did anything appear different). I tried to click on a song to play and iTunes froze. I had to restart iTunes and when I ejected my iPod (properly) the syncing sign was still turning on my iPod. As of now my iPod only skips through every song I try to play, but when I plug it into iTunes every song FROM my iPod plays perfectly.
No, I do not want to "factory reset" my iPod. No I do not wish to do anything crazy long or hard to fix this. Everything was working fine before when it decided to do this with very little effort, therefore I would like it fixed with very little effort.
I have tried resycing my iPod multiple times (every time I eject it from iTunes it appears to do so properly [iPod icon goes away] but the syncing icon still appears on my iPod).
I have almost 58 GB of music on my iPod so I'm not interested in starting from scratch. Also a good portion of my music is on a computer I don't have access to anymore so that's out of the question. Since the music seems to be uncorrupted (still plays from iPod in iTunes) I want a way to fix this iPod issue without having to erase anything.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

That may be necessary, It is not what you want to do/not do but what is required to resolve your problem.

  • Dude about Recently Played List

hello! please help me: i have a ipod classic 160 gb and for example i have 30 songs in my ipod, then i listen 15 songs (complete reproduction) and go to the list of reproduction "recently played" in the ipod and see says 0 songs (being that I have reproduced 15, is normal?). Then I connect the ipod with the itunes, and sync. In the list of "recently played" list of the ITUNES there appears all the songs that play before with the ipod. then the synchronization finishes, I extract the ipod, see the list "recently played" in the ipod and now if this one updated up to the synchronization with the itunes. at the time my consultation is ¿is it normal that appears in list "recently played" of the ipod in 0 songs if in fact I have reproduced 15 in the ipod?.
PD: I don't realize any modification in the lists they are those who come for default in itunes.
PD2: the set time and date, are correct
    please help me

Thank you. I did consider that but I rarely listen to music on my Iphone which I did sync with the laptop but did not update any music.

  • Problems playing mp3s after installing iTunes 7.1

I installed iTunes 7.1 today. After that, I have problems playing mp3 songs on my iPod (80 GB). The AAC-files play well. The mp3 songs can also be played on iPod via iTunes when its connected to my computer, but when I disconnect from the computer, the mp3 songs starts, and play for about 2 second, and then jumps to the end of the song and stop.
    Very thankful for any help.

that's typically caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)

  • I recently downloaded music from the iTunes store but it doesn't play on my iPod

I recently downloaded music through the iTunes store and synched it manually to my iPod nano (5th generation) and while it shows up on my iPod when I scroll through my list of artists/songs/albums it will not play any sound if selected and will not play through at all. At the very best all it will do is skip ahead 1 to 2 songs. What do I need to do?
I think it's also worth noting that the songs work on my other devices (laptop and iPad mini) absolutely fine with zero issues.

I had some time finally figuring why I could buy and download from the Itunes store, but could not load it on my IPOD. What finally worked was plugging my IPOD in to the computer, as I would when "syncing", and, after loading, it would show my device in the side bar. You have to go to VIEW in the top Tool Bar and click on SHOW SIDE BAR in the drop down menu. "SUMMARY' tab, on top, is what I clicked on to show an option of restoring my IPOD to the factory defaults. It erases everything on the IPOD, but gives an option of AUTOFILL afterwards, which it does from the computer. This is one solution of many you could try. Good luck.

  • ITunes will not recognize my Recently Played music from my iPod

I recently upgraded to iTunes 7 and I also upgraded my iPod as well to 1.2. I've been having problems with my iTunes not keeping track of the recently played tracks. If I look into my ipod history via iTunes it doesn't list any recently played tracks is there any way to fix this? thanks!

    hello.
i wonder, have you resolved this problem? if not, i had the same problem, and it was really annoying me. i, too, posted a message on these boards - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3639877#3639877. nobody replied though. so, not knowing what else to do, i reset my ipod because i also had recently updated both my ipod and itunes software when i started having this problem. this seemed to fix it somehow.
if you are still having the problem, maybe try doing this.
let me know if this works for you :o)

  • IPod "Recently Played" gets erased/overwritten by iTunes

I set up a "Recently Played" smart playlist on my iPod. It works. I listen to a track and that track gets listed on the smart playlist.
Then, when I connect the iPod to the computer, iTunes seems to make its own version of the smart playlist (btw - yes, the playlist is on the iPod itself - I'm not talking about iTunes' "Recently Played"). In iTunes, the iPod's Recently Played list shows a different set of tracks - those that were played from the iPod through iTunes.

There seems to be a problem with the Classic and new Nano where play history does not update your library. I would guess it is something that may be fixed with a firmware update ... someday.
The other consideration is the use of games seems to wipe out play history. Do you play any games on your iPod? I know on my 5G I lose play history if I've played more than about 50 songs or so and then play poker. But if I play only a few songs between syncs, then poker doesn't clear out the play history. This has been a problem since day 1 and has never been fixed.

  • I'm wary about synching my iPod with iTunes now-can't synch manually?

Recently, I upgraded iTunes and Quicktime pro - and now I wish I hadn't. Quicktime seems fine, but, when I was trying to make room on my hard drive by removing a few tunes for which I already owned CDs (bought and paid for), I got a message that read, roughly:
"Are you sure you want to delete this track from your library? If you remove it, it will also be removed from your iPod the next time you synch."
What??! Why should this be, and how can I prevent it from happening? I wrote directly to Apple explaining my dismay. As I expained to them, my main reason for buying an iPod was to play my CDs in my car, which has only a tape deck. And I don't necessarily want to put every CD I own on my hard drive and then keep them there! I just want to get them onto the iPod! That's a perfectly legitimate use, and I don't understand why I'm being stymied.
I also don't seem able to go to iPod preferences within iTunes and ask that the iPod be treated as a hard drive. That's also important, because I have a couple of utilities stored on the iPod. Previously, I could run the utilities from the iPod to verify disc permission, etc., and I'd like to be able to keep doing so. It's a 4th generation 40 gig firewire iPod, and I'm running Tiger.
Hope this is clear - it just seems a shame that an upgrade in software would result in reduced functionality. That didn't used to be the case with Apple.

    Selct the iPod in iTunes.
    Tick Manually manage music.
You can delete form iTunes and it will remain on iPod.
Note that if your iPod needs to be Restored and you do not have a backup of your music, it is gone.
my main reason for buying an iPod was to play my CDs in my car
Then you really messed up because iPods don't play CDs. They will play albums/music imported from CDs.
I also don't seem able to go to iPod preferences within iTunes and ask that the iPod be treated as a hard drive.
Select the iPod in iTunes. Tick *Enable disk use*.
it just seems a shame that an upgrade in software would result in reduced functionality
If this were the case, then yes it would be a shame.

  • My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist.

My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist. But it still tracking plays from my iPhone and syncing them.
I've tried to repair it with setup file. Nothing's changed.
Can you help me with that?
NOTE: Now I tried disabling the crossfade feature and it worked, started to count again. But I like crossfade, I don't want to keep it off.

I think I got this figured out. The playcount does update, but not how the previous iPod models update their playcount. Instead of immediately updating the playcount right after you finish the song like the older iPod models, iPod Touch keeps the updates in memory. The next time you connect to iTunes it'll sync those playcounts in memory to the actual songs itself, effectively updating the playcount of the songs only after connecting to iTunes. I have set my syncing manually. That's why after connecting to iTunes, my playcounts are updated. BUT it doesn't solve the mystery of my Smart Playlist. Even though in iTunes, the correct songs are listed, in the iPod Touch, it shows the old playlist.
Don't you just hate that? It was working fine before on non-iPod touch models. Now we have to live with this new bug. I just hope when they release software 2.0 it fixes these bugs and that they *give it for free!* People shouldn't be charged on something they should have gotten as a support!

  • "Recently Played" playlist doesn't appear on iPod

New video iPod 60 Gig. I can see the "Recently Played" playlist on iTunes, along with the others, but it doesn't appear on the iPod itself. I only get "Recently Added", "On-The-Go" and "90s Music" on the iPod.
Is there something special that I have to do to enable these playlists on the iPod? I thought that they "just worked"; they have done on previous models that I've had.
I had the iPod set up for manual sync, but changed it today to auto-sync. Waited 2 hours for the auto-sync, but it's made no difference; still no "Recently Played" on my iPod. And yes, I have played some songs on the iPod since the auto-sync!!
    Any help appreciated

  • Multiple iPods - use of Recently Played & Top 25 Played

I have a 160 G Classic and just got a Nano (8 g) for my daughter. She wants to see her top 25 played and recently played for her nano on a playlist, but iTunes only shows the data for the Classic in the top 25 played, however it shows the data for the Nano under recently played (glich?). Is this feature avaialble for the Nano? Is there a way to have these playlists in the same iTunes library for BOTH iPods at the same time using manual/selective sync? I could set up separate libraries, I printed out the instructions for that. I want to keep them under the same account though. Thanks!

+Is there a way to have these playlists in the same iTunes library for BOTH iPods at the same time using manual/selective sync?+
No...ratings and playcounts only get synced BACK into itunes if an iPod is set for auto sync.
But it sure does seem you've hit some kind of a glitch if the nano is set for manual update, yet recently played from the nano is being seen in itunes.
If your daughter wants to see only her playcounts, you can still create a library just for her, and keep one itunes store account. You can put iTS purchases on as many ipods as you desire. If you read about a limit of 5, that is for 5 PCs authorized for playback, and up to 5 different accounts per iPod.
Sounds like you are currently using method 2 (sort of) from this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
I would suggest using method 1 in your case.
I think method 3 would be too easy to forget to hold the shift key when choosing libraries, and get things messed up real quick - but that's just me.

  • Songs not playing on iPod but they do on iTunes

I recently bought a iPod and have been transfering songs that were already on my computer to my iPod. I went to play one album and it just skipped through all the tracks and wouldn't play them. On other albums only some of the songs have been put on iPod/iTunes and I can't work out why. The albums that I'm trying to put on are not from iTunes store but some of them work and others don't.
Any ideas how to get round this problem?

I have experienced a similar problem and was able to isolate the situation to a group of MP3 format songs that I imported into my iTunes library from CD several years ago. They were stored as MP3 format rather than the M4A format that is currently used.
The problem seems to have developed recently on iPod classic with the last release of firmware.
Several suggestions were tried to fix the problem (which did not work for me). Things tried that did NOT work - reset ID3 tags, MP3 validator, turning off artwork, the back light trick, etc.
I finally reripped the music into my iTunes library and resynched my iPod classics and life is wonderful again on the iPod classic.
