Recently played

Just downloaded iTunes 7, and contrary to popular opinion, I like the new interface. Doesn't bother me at all. I was curious, however, to find out whether the "Recently Added" playlist had been eliminated. I don't have it onboard and I was wondering if I'd either inadvertently deleted it or if it doesn't exist anymore.
I was also curious as to why some of my music tracks seem to be missing in action. They were all in iTunes 6 yesterday, but with the new upgrade, some of the tunes are gone from my hard drive!

You like the new interface? Well it'd be a boring world if we were all the same I guess...lol
The recently played playlist is still there. If you want to make another one, you can follow my instructions here.
As for iTunes eating your files, I have no idea I'm afraid. I gather there are some teething troubles being had; in searching for the above link, I found five pages of complains about iTunes 7 - all in the last 12 hours!

  • My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist.

My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist. But it still tracking plays from my iPhone and syncing them.
I've tried to repair it with setup file. Nothing's changed.
Can you help me with that?
NOTE: Now I tried disabling the crossfade feature and it worked, started to count again. But I like crossfade, I don't want to keep it off.

I think I got this figured out. The playcount does update, but not how the previous iPod models update their playcount. Instead of immediately updating the playcount right after you finish the song like the older iPod models, iPod Touch keeps the updates in memory. The next time you connect to iTunes it'll sync those playcounts in memory to the actual songs itself, effectively updating the playcount of the songs only after connecting to iTunes. I have set my syncing manually. That's why after connecting to iTunes, my playcounts are updated. BUT it doesn't solve the mystery of my Smart Playlist. Even though in iTunes, the correct songs are listed, in the iPod Touch, it shows the old playlist.
Don't you just hate that? It was working fine before on non-iPod touch models. Now we have to live with this new bug. I just hope when they release software 2.0 it fixes these bugs and that they *give it for free!* People shouldn't be charged on something they should have gotten as a support!

  • Updating Recently Played

My iPod recently stopped updating the recently played on its own. When I plug it into iTunes the computer updates them but my iPod no longer does it on its own. Is this some sort of bug? Does this mean I should start saving for a new one? Its not even two years old....any help appreciated thanks!

I believe there have been reports that the latest firmware update to the 5th generation iPod broke the updating of smart playlists in the iPod itself. I assume you are running firmware v1.3, the latest?

  • ITunes can only 'see' a small fraction of my music (recently played)

I opened iTunes today and it only sees about a dozen songs (i think they're the most recently played).  The music is still on my computer (new iMac/current iTunes version) but it doesn't 'see' it.  This is not the common 'explanation point' issue.
Any thoughts?  Related to the big 'bug' at Apple today?

This sounds like what I need, unfortunately, when I click on file, consolidate files isn't an option...

  • I've deleted the recently added and recently played tabs and want to get them back, how?

    Hi
I've deleted the recently played, and recently added tabs on the left hand side of itunes, but I now want to gewt them back. I've tried to look online for solutions but they don't work, I get the icon up again, but nothing gets added. Am I doing something wrong.
Heres what I've done - Go to file - Create new smart playlist - then in the box marked random, drop down box to most recently added - then name the folder when it appears on the left. Thats great, but nothing appears in that folder. I've also tried clicking on the + sign bottom left then hitting shift, which brings up the same box, but it still doesn't work..... Help!

You need to specify what the values/attributes are for the two smart playlists. The below screenshots are from iTunes on my Mac (as that is what I'm currently logged in on), but I assume that the values are the same as they would be on windows :

  • Recently Played Artists not updating!

Alright, so there is already a thread about this, but Spotify hasn't addressed it yet, so I figure I'd start a second one. It's been about 3-4 weeks since my "Recently Played Artists" or my friends "Recently Played Artists" have updated. This is very frustating to me and others I've heard from. I'd like to see my own because there are days where I'll go through 2-3 artists' entire collection of work, then the next day do some other artists, but sometimes I like to look back and see what I had listened to (which would be in Recently Played Artists) without having to add a bunch of songs to my or a playlist. Not that that matters - for the last several weeks whenever I've followed a new playlist, it won't show up on my account page. Luckily it still shows up in the left hand bar, but I use my phone a lot and it's not as easy as it is on the computer. I also like to see what my friends are/have been listening to as well, but since I haven't seen a change in any of theirs for 3-4 weeks, unless I'm on and looking at what they are currently playing, I don't know. This brings up another issue I've been having where sometimes it will say the last person listening to music was, say, 4 hours ago... but if I close Spotify and restart it (which takes 10 seconds), then 4 people are listening to music live and I'll see in my feed that others had been listening in the time between 4 hours. My computer is always connected to wifi, and I had never had this problem before. The amalgamation of these little (but irritating) problems has really defeated the feeling of connectedness I've had since getting Spotify several months ago. Additionally, seeing what you and your friends' Recently Played/Top Played artists is what, to me, makes Spotify more enjoyable than just listening to music in my iTunes library.  If you are having this problem, please click the "ME TOO" button, as this will highlight this post for Spotify to see.

Hey Rustie! So yesterday morning I sent them a breakdown of things I found/noticed. I was on a Free test account and noticed some problems with specific ads that would just completely pause the music once they were done. But I was mainly trying out the Recently Played Artists obviously, and keeping an eye on the activity feed too since I was having trouble with that. Everytime there is an an-app update, say someone adds a song to a playlist you follow, the activity feed stops refreshing until you close and restart the app. I noticed this on my account and didn't know what was causing it, but on the test account is where I pinned down in-app updates as being the source of the issue. For Recently Played Artists - no luck. I played Of Monsters and Men for two days straight (let it play while I slept too) so that there would be no question it would make it to the Recently Played. The list didn't update in the 3 days I had the account however.  When I sent them the email yesterday, I was sort of disappointed. I told them exactly who I had listened to and what I had noticed with the app, and up until this email they'd been very eager to hear from me, but when I told them nothing had happened I just got a generic email about how cases like mine are being collected and that Spotify is looking at it... Well I know they're looking at it as I've been emailing them about it for the last week haha, I guess I shouldn't be expecting a full report on what they've found or what they're doing about it other than "looking" but I would've like to know if it's a bug or a programming error or something rather than just being told again that the issue is being addressed.  I'm not mad at that though, I understand technical difficulties can be tough, and there are a lot of people complaining so I'm sure they really ARE working on it, but what annoyed me is that this is clearly a problem, and so they put out an update that changes the shade of green for the app icon...? Maybe I'm seeing things but it looks like the update changed the color of my mobile app icon, which is completely pointless to me and any amount of time that went towards changing the color very slightly should've have gone towards dealing with actual issues in my opinion. But I may just being seeing things. Anyway, they certainly are trying to figure this issue out so that's good to hear.

  • Recently played list not updating in when connecting my 1st gen iPod Nano

My Recently played list in iTunes will not show any songs recently played songs in my Nano.
Why? How do I fix that?
I've "repaired" iTunes, and updated my iPod to the lastest version.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello lakersfan44,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
First of all, I am assuming this smart playlist is still available and viewable from within iTunes correct?
Have you made sure your iPod is properly configured to sync playlists?

  • IPod Mini 'Recently Played' playlist not updating...any ideas?

Does anyone have any idea why my 'Recently Played' playlist on my
iPod mini would suddenly stop updating itself?
I tried to fix it by connecting to my computer and deleting the playlist
through iTunes and creating a new 'Smart Playlist' with exactly the
same settings of the last 'Recently Played' playlist but now, the new
'Recently Played' playlist on the iPod is just staying the same, its not
updating, its the songs that were played on my computer before I
disconnected my iPod, so it's not even the songs from my iPod...
Hope that makes sense.....anyone got any ideas?

I'm not a user of smart playlists, but could it have something to do with this?

  • Recently played playlist not updating

I'm posting this query here and in the ipod thread as i don't know if the problem is with my itunes, or the ipod itself:
Basically, we've had a new PC, and I intstalled iTunes and uploaded all of my music with no problems. However, whenever i used to play a song on the ipod through "shuffle songs", it would drop onto the bottom of my "recently played" playlist on the ipod, then would go to the top of the list when the ipod got connected to the PC. Now the songs won't appear on the recently played list until the ipod is connected to the PC. I'm wondering then if this is something to do with the settings in iTunes, as i didn't have this problem until i got the new PC and had to start over with iTunes. Have had a look on the settings menu on the ipod itself, and also on the preferences menu on itunes, but can't see anything that looks like it might help. Is this a glitch or a simple settings problem?
    Many Thanks!

I have this exact same problem, does anyone kno a solution?

  • After upgrading my iPad to iOS 6 some of the music playlists from iOS 5 no longer work, because they are not available on iOS 6, eg. recently added, recently played. Should I delete them?

Since the upgrade to iOS 6 some of my music playlists from iOS 5 do not work, eg recently added, recently played, probably because they are not available on iOS6. Should I delete them.

I should mention that I have the same issue with my Iphone 4s, now using iOS6.

  • Play Count & Recently Played Playlist Errors

My iPod doesn't sync the playcount and recently played playlist properly to my computer. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.
I've encountered it with all version of the software from the intial 1.0 to the new 1.0.2

Yes a known problem in this forum and there is at least one large thread dedicated to this issue. I am not sure if there is a fix yet, but I haven't heard of one yet.

  • Recently Played playlist syncing issues

    Hi Apple friends,
I've noticed some odd behaviour with my iPhone 4 since either iOS 5 or my purchase of iTunes Match (I can not recall which is accurate).
I've read a lot about playlist issues with iOS 5 but I have not heard a mention of anything similar to my situation. I usually sync the default playlists of Recently Played and Recently Added with my iPhone 4 running the latest iOS 5.0.1. I am familiar with the Recently Added bug of reversing the order of the playlist and I thin I can live pretty comfortably with that.
Recently Played however will not sync at all. iTunes says it is syncing and in fact it even names newly played files that are syncing over, but they never appear on the phone. In fact, the recently played playlist that is synced successfully at first will slowly get smaller and smaller as if it was actually keeping a count of recently played songs on my phone (which is obviously played less often) when it is supposed to be a count of recently played songs on my iMac.
Even opening up the playlist viewer of what is on my iPhone in iTunes shows the playlist as the proper size of ~200 tracks but then in reality, Music.app shows ~90 tracks at the moment. iTunes never reports an error during sync and a restore to defaults worked with the first sync but it has since gone back to this behaviour.
I had a bunch of 3G problems (Rogers, eh?) with iTunes Match, so I have long had it disabled for months now on my phone. I don't think this can be the issue, although iTunes Match did have a lot of playlist problems when I had it enabled, but many forum posts have shown me that a lot of people had those issues anyways.
I have also tried switching between USB and Wi-fi Sync with no success... Has anyone else seen a similar issue?
My Recently Played playlist uses this filter:
    1. "Last Played" is in the last "2 weeks"
    2. "Media Kind" is "Music"
    3. Match only ticked items
    4. Playlist is live updating (Could this be it?)

My Recently played playlist is not correct. My setting is:
Match all of the following rules:
Last played is in last 3 days
    Playlist is Music

Delete the rule saying "Playlist is Music" and see what you get.
Also, make sure you have it set for Live Updating.

  • "Recently Played" playlist doesn't appear on iPod

New video iPod 60 Gig. I can see the "Recently Played" playlist on iTunes, along with the others, but it doesn't appear on the iPod itself. I only get "Recently Added", "On-The-Go" and "90s Music" on the iPod.
Is there something special that I have to do to enable these playlists on the iPod? I thought that they "just worked"; they have done on previous models that I've had.
I had the iPod set up for manual sync, but changed it today to auto-sync. Waited 2 hours for the auto-sync, but it's made no difference; still no "Recently Played" on my iPod. And yes, I have played some songs on the iPod since the auto-sync!!
    Any help appreciated

    hello.
i wonder, have you resolved this problem? if not, i had the same problem, and it was really annoying me. i, too, posted a message on these boards - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3639877#3639877. nobody replied though. so, not knowing what else to do, i reset my ipod because i also had recently updated both my ipod and itunes software when i started having this problem. this seemed to fix it somehow.
if you are still having the problem, maybe try doing this.
let me know if this works for you :o)
