Recently published site isn't available

I just updated my page, but i keep getting a page that says it doesn't exist. help?? I publish the site and then click the "visit now" option and it's just not there. is there a slow turnaround on a new site?

Hello, I have just upgraded to iWeb08 and I have published four "updates", but when I access my blog via Safari or IE (PC) they do not show. When I publish and click on the go straight to site option, the most recent entry does display via Safari and looks perfectly normal. However, if I then manually access the URL via Safari, the older entry date displays (2 Nov). It is always the same older entry date coming up. I have now had this problem for about 6 days. I would appreciate your suggestions, as I have tried may different ways of refreshing pages, clearing stored URLs etc. The old version is dated Friday 2 Nov, whilst the recently published version is 17 Nov. Try running Disk Utility and Repairing Disk Permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot. Reconnect the Lacie and see if it mounts. If not...
You could try reinstalling the drivers (software) that came with the Lacie,
Also, when you disconnect an external device that has mounted on the Desktop, make sure and Command + E first to eject it.

You can upgrade to iPhoto '11 with OS X 10.8.5 by purchasing an iPhoto '11 DVD from Amazon, eBay or other source - or you can upgrade your OS to Mavericks for free if your system meets the requirements and then purchase the upgrade to iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x from the App store - in either case backup first in case of problems

I recently upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and cannot open up .avi files now in Quicktime. These same files opened up with no problem prior to my upgrade. Additionally, I had upgraded to the Pro version of Quicktime recently, but it appears I've retrograded back to the basic version, unexplainably.

I cannot get the AVI files to play on my iMac. They were copied over from the PC and I can see them but when trying to open them I get the message "The document “Mural.avi” could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." As far as I know I have the most recent version og Qucktime.

Try installing Perian or VLC. Some AVIs require a codec which simply isn't available for Mac OS X.

Publish feature for sharing to Facebook isn't available from iPhoto. It has always been available in the past, probably shared photos 2 months ago. Any ideas why this would not be available now?

Publishing site announcement list, calendar list not available even activating feature

" Team Collaboration List " feature is activated on publishing site. Again deactivated and activated, browser restarted, but the problem exists. No announcement list, task list, calendar list template found.
Please let me know the way to fix the issue.

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to use announcement, task list, calendar list template at publishing site in SharePoint 2013.
Please try to use PowerShell commands to disable and enable " Team Collaboration List " feature at your publishing site. You can do as opening SharePoint 2013 Management Shell, then typing the following commands:
Disable-SPFeature –Identity 00BFEA71-4EA5-48D4-A4AD-7EA5C011ABE5 -url <the url of the publishing site>
Enable-SPFeature –Identity 00BFEA71-4EA5-48D4-A4AD-7EA5C011ABE5 -url <the url of the publishing site>
In the above commands, 00BFEA71-4EA5-48D4-A4AD-7EA5C011ABE5 is the identity of " Team Collaboration List " feature.

Published site w/ iWeb but next time opening iWeb no content was there

I recently published updates to my site but the next time I opened iWeb there was no content & I was asked which templet I wanted to use - as if I was opening for the first time. Is there any way to reload the content into iWeb - if so how? Thanks in advance for any time & effort in helping me.

Guy ~ Assuming you haven't inadvertently logged in to a different User Account, try this... Via Spotlight's magnifying glass icon at upper right of your screen, search for iWeb's Domain file(s) by entering this:
.site
...and see what shows up in the drop-down list of hits. Note that any files which may be iWeb's Domain file won't be displayed as filename.site — rather they'll be displayed simply as filename, where filename could be anything you've perhaps renamed the original Domain file to be.

If you can't find it, be aware that only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

Why FIOS isn't available?

I live in Lowell, Massachusetts. I have listened and watched ads on TV about FIOS for nearly 12 years now. Every year I have called up Verizon and asked about getting FIOS and each year I get the same answer, "FIOS isn't available in your area yet." Yet, there are neighboring towns and cities that already have it. I ask, when will it be available and I get the same answer, "go to our web site and fill out the page to get a notice for when it will be available." Almost 12 years now and still nothing. FIOS still isn't available in my area, zip code 01854. Just getting the run around from Verizon again. One reason why I dropped them for my telephone and internet services.

This is a peer-to-peer support forum where volunteer users try to help others in the same boat. I'm sure you're already aware that the only thing you can do is maintain contact with Verizon Communications and hope for the best. Frankly I don't think they're in expansion mode just now with respect to capital expenditure for FiOS infrastructure. Recent press reports indicate that the emphasis now is on expanding in the wireless area rather than the "bricks and mortar" business of FiOS networks.

If nothing else seems to work, perhaps a novel approach is in order. Have you checked with anyone in nearby Salem MA? It's only about 20 miles away, and there used to be a bunch over there with strange powers who could get just about anything done (for a price).

Why is my published site not operational when using Firefox or IE?

The original problem I experienced had to do with the fact that my published site's navigation bar was totally missing on each page and replaced with a "period" as described by the following thread... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9899999&#9899999
The weird thing is that this problem only exists when using IE or Firefox on a PC (at work). Site is 100% operational using Safari on a Mac (at home).
Thinking my iWeb files were corrupt, I uninstalled and reinstalled iWeb '08. After doing so, I republished my site. The good news: the nav bar is now present on each page and operational. The bad news: my photo pages and blog page have zero content other than the header banner and nav bar. Again, this problem only exists when accessing the published site using IE or Firefox on a PC. The site is fully operational and all photos/blog entries present when accessing the site using Safari on my Mac.
What gives? Did a recent iWeb update (intended for iWeb 09 users or intel-based macs) corrupt my iWeb '08 on my PowerBook G4?

Please note that Java and Javascript are not related. iWeb uses a lot
of Javascript, not Java. There may be some issues with the Javascript
generated by iWeb -- I don't know. If it seems to work for someone
and not for someone else then it is an issue at the browser end, not
the website end. Each browser may not be handling the Javascript in
exactly the same way. (You gotta love standards.)

Is it possible to show a 'My Activity' web part on a SharePoint site if 'My Sites' is not available?
For example, say there's a SharePoint installation dedicated to particular (custom) SharePoint site. The users go to the site to carry out their tasks. There's no 'My Site' set up in this installation (and for other reasons I'm told it's not an option).
Is it possible to show a web part here that shows the user's recent activity? The built-in web part for this fails with the error 'Invalid URI: The URI is empty', and the details of it appear to say it's looking for the user's My Site to find out what to show:

So, while I'd be happy to write a web part (or app part) to display the information instead of using the default part, I'm not sure SharePoint is even storing the activity in a way I can access.
Some pages like the following: http://sharepointmystery.com/2012/07/22/activity-feeds-in-sharepoint-2013/ make me think it won't be possible - it says: 'The major change from 2010 is that all the [activity] content is stored in the user’s personal site, not
in a common database.'
Are activity feeds dependent on 'My Sites' or is there a way to access the information when 'My Sites' is not present in the deployment? I can't find a definitive answer in Microsoft's documentation.

To clarify, do you have the User Profile Service (including MySite Host) up and running on this environment? That's subtley different to the full MySite experience which is clearly not applicable...
Interesting question - thanks for that. Until now I didn't realise there was a difference.
The User Profile Service is up and running, but no MySite Host is set. (I don't believe MySite will be available anywhere here. I guess that means there's no valid MySite Host for me to use.)

Hi, I have recently upgraded from a powerbook G4 to an iMac i7. I my new iMac, I bought the new version of Guitar Rig 4 and installed it. On my old Powerbook G4 I had Guitar Rig 3 installed. My problem is, when I open a Garageband file (ones that utilized effects from Guitar Rig 3) from my old mac on my new i7 GB gives me the message "The plug-in named “Guitar Rig” isn’t available on your system". Shouldn't the guitar rig 3 plugin effects I used on my old mac work fine as guitar rig 4 effects on my new mac? Since they obviously don't, is there a way to import my guitar rig settings and plugins from my old mac to my new one so I won't lose the GR3 effects that I used on my Garageband in my old mac? Please let me know if there is a way to do this, as it would be a huge pain to go through all my garageband files and re-tweak the plugins to get the same sounds I had on my old mac. Thank you very much for any help you can give.

how do i access an iWeb site i have published to add another page? i launched iWeb and the "visit a published site" is grayed out. i can only find my site by clicking on the link in an e-mail i sent announcing it, and then i am only viewing it as anybody else would. i would like to know if i can build upon or edit a published site. and where is the link to .mac on the new apple site?

thank you for the quick response. i erased and my drive and re-installed almost everything in the hopes of rectifying an ongoing and annoying problem and i don't have the AppSupport>iweb pathway available to me. how do i find a link to log onto .mac when i re-publish this my iWeb site to .mac?

Setting Custom Master page in search results page - Publishing site

I have a publishing site, in which i have a custom Master page.
However when doing the search in the site, the search results does not show the custom Master page.
Is it possible to set the custom created Master page for the search results page? How to achieve this?

Hi Venkat,
The search page for a publishing site is a file available in the layouts folder (I believe it is the osssearchresults.aspx if you see the address bar). It is used by all web applications and site collections in your farm. So ideally you should not change
it. I mean you can change it to point to your master page but it is bad practice ..
I would instead do the following
1. Create a custom search results web part page and place it in the site collection itself (one of the document libraries)
2. Custom search results is not difficult because all search results pages are made of a set of Out of the box search results web parts. If you add the same webparts to your page as the default search results page, you have effectively created a copy of
it
3. go to site settings --> search settings and change the search results page to your newly created page
4. The newly created page by virtue of its location will automatically use the master page the rest of the site uses.
I could not spend the time to try the above for you but I am sure the above will work.
