Recently switched to BT but so far no service and ...

Having recently decided to join BT an engineer arrived to check the phone line. He ran a few tests and said there were no problems and to expect connection later that day. Great.
The following day the phone was working but not the internet. As I still had a internet connection through cable with another supplier I wasn't too concerned as I was sure BT would get it sorted.
After the bank holiday weekend the broadband still wasn't working so I decided to contact customer services. The operator was very helpful and said he would sort out any problems. He found out that the phone was still being provided by my previous supplier, Virgin Media. The operator said by the end of the day my phone and internet would be provided by BT.
Within half an hour of the call to customer services the phone line went dead to be replaced by nothing. No problem, he did say it would be sorted by the end of the day I thought to myself.
The day after and still no connection to BT. Before ringing customer services I discovered the BT Fault Finder online. I ran this and to my surprise it said there was a fault on the line near to my property. I'm sure the engineer who gave it a clean bill of health would be surprised to hear this also.
I received a call, on my mobile, later that day to be told there was indeed a fault and that and engineer would be called out. However if a fault was found within the boundaries on my property I could be charged a fee of £99.
The engineer is due to arrive on the 2nd September. I strongly feel that my connection to BT wasn't tested correctly in the first place. The engineer who visited my property to install BT either made a mistake or was incompetent. Why should I be charged for something that should have been sorted as part of the installation process?
Thanks.

It's not "within the boundaries" of your property.  You should have a Master Socket with a faceplate which can be detached to reveal another phone socket beneath, called the Test Socket.  Connect your telephone to the Test Socket.  If the line is still dead (and you are sure the phone works) then you will not be charged for a call-out.
Anything from the Master Socket to the telephone exchange belongs to BT and will be fixed free of charge.  Anything attached to the faceplate you removed belongs to you and you are liable to be charged if it needs fixing.

  • I've recently switched mobile devices but my cellular

I've recently switched to an Andriod device.  All of my contacts can't reach me because it would appear that my Apple ID is tied up with my mobile number somehow.  Most of my contacts devices aren't able to reach me because it's trying to send iMessage.  How can this be fixed?  I've adjusted my Apple ID so that my phone number is not associated with the account anymore.  I've deleted my old device from my list of items.  What am I missing?

  • Safari won't play youtube videos anymore. I've never had trouble in the past. I switched to chrome but then back to safari and changed the default browser to safari. Now safari won't open any sites that require a user and password. Any suggestions?

    Hello everyone,
I've recently been getting error messages on youtube videos when using safari. This never used to happen. I tried using chrome but it didn't take care of the problem. When I set my default browser back to safari, safari won't open any websites that require a username and password. Any suggestions?

My case is different from those listed below.  First, I'm running OS X 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5.
    My problem is this:
I run a Google search, say, "youtube somesong", and from the hit list returned from google I
pick some selection. Youtube launches and plays the video without problems.  However, when
i click on any of the alternate videos from the page's  vertical list, only the name of the chosen video
appears beneath the video I just watched.  The new selection itself is not loaded by Safari.
This occurs for any selection I choose.  My way around this problem is to force a Safari reload of
the page by using the keyboard shortcut, Command-R.  This fills in the old video window with the
video I just chose.  Can I conclude that this is a Safari issue alone, or is it a Safari/Youtube combo gotcha?  Anyway, the present condition *****.
This problem began sometime after i upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I have reset Safari and have also
deleted the Youtube.com Cache, Cookies, and Local Storage from the Privacy settings under
System Preferences. I have also tested the problem by running Safari in 32 bit mode (no luck there).
If anyone out there has experienced this scenario, I sure could use a little help here.

  • What's the best type of anti-virus or spyware to use for cleaning up my MacBook Pro? I recently switched to a mac from pc, so don't know much about my computer yet.

I recently switched to a macbook pro from a pc, and am curious what type of (if any) virus protection or spyware protection to use for it.  I keep getting a message to Install MacKeeper 2012; but am not sure if it's worth paying for or not.  I'd like some advice on what would be the best protection for my computer.  Also, I recently had the new microsoft office installed; which has been having issues freezing up quite often when I use it.  I don't know if clenaing my mac would help with the Microsoft office stuff, or not (or even if that would be related)...also each time I restart my computer; all windows applications open (word, power point, excel & outlook).   obviously I'm not very tech savvy to begin with so any advice would help!  I'm hoping this computer will last me thru the next 4 years of grad school & just want to make sure this computer is well taken care of to last that long.  Thanks!

  • Did Mac OS recently switch from 72 DPI to 96 DPI?

Did Mac OS recently switch from 72 DPI to 96 DPI?
I ask this because my MacBook renders text at 96 DPI, whereas I read everywhere that Mac OS (X?) renders text at 72 DPI, and MS Windows renders text at 96 dpi.
Note I'm only talking font points to pixels, not pixels to screen (which is dependent on the display).
For example, on TextEdit in plain text mode a 16 point font is rendered at 21 pixels, and that corresponds to 96 DPI (if it was rendered at 72 DPI, it would be 16 pixels instead of 21).
I had a look at the "System Profiler" > Graphics/Display, but I couldn't find a DPI value. It only mentions resolution (e.g. 1366x768).
So, do you know if Mac OS recently switched from 72 DPI to 96 DPI? And if yes, do you know at which version it made the switch?

Thanks Kurt, but this was not the info I was looking for.
My point is, how comes my Mac is behaving as a 96 dpi OS, where this is not documented anywhere that I know of?
In fact, as I said, I've found plenty of documentation saying the mac is a 72 DPI OS
(for example, wikipedia) and, even after extensive googling, I have found none saying it is a 96 DPI OS?
In fact, everywhere it says Windows is a 96 dpi OS, and I've verified that.
Every rendering engine has a specific DPI count, which does NOT relate to the question "how many pixels (or points) do I need to specify if I want my text to be x inches tall" (by the way, I call that "pixel-to-screen" resolution, or "points-to-screen" resolution). That depends on the screen.
The DPI I'm talking about answers the question "how many points do I need to specify if I want my text to be x pixels tall". I call that the "points-to-pixel" resolution. That doesn't depend on the screen, it only depends on the OS (at least, when there's no "software" zoom, that's why I take TextEdit as a test on Mac, and Notepad on Windows).

  • My envy 110 works but the web services and eprint services give "connection error". what to do?

My family use  Macs and Apple Deskbook and a BT Homehub network. The HP troubleshooting instructions do not always match what is on computer screen. The menu paths that HP gives sometimes do not exist.
The Envy 110 printer was working fine but it often could not be found by the computers so I followed HP instructions to set a Static IP Address on the Printer. But now the Web Service and ePrint Service give a "connection error".    Any suggestions? I am annoyed that HP don't give a phone number to help.

When you set that static IP on the printer, make sure of 2 things:
    1. The IP address is outside the DHCP range of the router.
    2. Use an external DNS, like Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • I recently switched to Verizon. In some areas it goes down to 3G, but then moving to an area I know has good 4G, it remains stuck in 3G until I turn airplane mode on then off again. Is there any way to fix this without having to cycle through airplane mod

Phone is LG G3. I find it odd that I have to cycle through airplane mode to fix this particular issue.

There has been no improvement thus far.
I recently switched from AT&T for a cheaper price, but so far my experience connection-wise across Chicago has been absolutely terrible. Where I used to get 4-5 bars 4GLTE in my apartment at 60640, I now get 3G if I'm lucky (have NEVER seen 1X before on AT&T even in the most remote of locations).
I also have poor connections near my work at 60611. Had (again) a bar of 1X and the person next to me had 3 bars 4G LTE with AT&T again.
So far plenty of regrets... and doing my research, I see many complaints in Chicago LTE services. Hoping there is a fix out there soon.

I have the iPhone 4. I recently switched from PC to IMac. I am trying to sync my iPhone, but iTunes will not let me add or remove anything. Do I need to change a setting since I changed computers? I try to add songs from my music into my phone section and it will not go... Plus the playlists on my phone are not updated on my iTunes phone on my computer. Its like it never updated. What am I doing wrong??

Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.
When you sync to another it will delete the current content.
Make sure you have copied everything from your old computer to your new one first.

    Best,
    James.

you cannot use your pc license to install on a mac.  you would need a separate license (and serial number) for that.
adobe allows platform swaps, but only with the latest (xi) version, Order product | Platform, language swap
your option to use acrobat on a mac are to upgrade to acrobat pro xi and change platforms, use a windows emulator (parallels/boot camp etc) on your mac or swap with a third party.

Sounds like your friend didn't disable iMessage on his/her iphone before switching.  Have your friend do the following:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of his/her old iPhone.
    Click "unregister"
This should unregister it with the iMessage server, which will allow you to send texts as normal SMS.
On your iPhone make sure you have Settings>Messages>Send As SMS set to ON.
