Recently upgraded to Windoes 7 & lost itunes sync data (playlists, etc)

I just upgraded from Vista (glad to be done with that!) to Windows 7.  After reinstalling iTunes and all of my audio files I attached my iPhone to sync and noticed that all of my playlists and apps are not loaded. I synced before the changeover and all was well.
Is there any way to load my playlists and apps from my iPhone?  It is not letting me and all of my current files will be overwritten if I sync (audio is the same, but it will be a real pain to identify and reinstall all of the apps).
Also, I used to have a "Purchased" folder in itunes that is no longer present...
Thanks in advance!
Ed

Did you backup your iTunes library and then restore that to the new computer? Even if you just used the same computer and upgraded the OS, iTunes and the iPhone see it as a new computer. It sounds like you just copied your music over to iTunes and in doing so created a new library. That new library does not contain your playlists. Also, you will need to authorize that computer after signing in with your old Apple ID. You do have the option, once connecting the iPhone to iTunes and before attempting a sync, to transfer the purchases from the iPhone to iTunes. The fact this is a new install of iTunes and the creating of a new library that you no longer have the Purchased folder.
The sync process is one way for music, etc. from iTunes to the iPhone. It does not allow from the phone back to iTunes. However, like I said, you can before syncing authorize the computer and transfer purchases from the phone.

I purchased a used 3GS model 138LL,  with iOS 4.?? service provider AT&T 12.0 ---used phone for several months, connected with iTunes, downloaded purchased software, etc. worked great.  I did NOT back up my system...dumb I know. New software came out and I load  iOS 5.1.1 I had to completely wipe out the previous data.  The phone works with calls, texting, 3GS network, accessing the internet...etc.   I cannot get iTunes to recognize the phone and I cannot get it to sync.  I need to reload my purchased apps.  What do I do?  I've read about trouble shooting and have tried various methods but I must be missing something...I know this should be easier than what I am experiencing.  Any help??  Big thank U

  • Lost iTunes sync'd account!!!

I had an iTunes sync'd account (with my iPhone4) on a computer that (because of events out of my control) now no longer exists. How do I retrieve what I didn't keep on my iPhone? There are items on my iPhone4 that I now want to sync to a new computer but I don't know how to transport these files to the new computer? I'm afraid at this point if I choose to sync with new computer that (as it states) will erase what I have on my phone with what is stored on new computer (which is nothing)! Somebody please help me solve this issue of mine! Pleeeeeeeeeez!

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • Lost iTunes preferences and playlists

A recurring issue (MacBook Pro shutting down unexpectedly with iTunes open) caused me to lose all my iTunes preferences and playlists. My iTunes library appears to be intact, but I also lost my album artwork.
    any help? Thanks

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • HT1364 Due to lack of space on my c drive I decided to move my music folder to the d drive. After I done this I changed my mind and put the music folder back on the c drive and now my itunes music and playlists etc. are missing. How do I get them back?

Due to lack of space on my c drive I decided to move my music folder to my d drive. After I done this I noticed all my music was gone from itunes so I decided to move the music folder back to the c drive to try fix the problem. All my music and playlists etc are still missing from itunes. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem???

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:

  • Upgrade to FF .13 lost all my history, bookmarks, etc. Where are they?

FF upgraded overnight to, I think, .13 level. I've lost all my history--no bookmarks (HUGE problem for me) plus sites I visit regularly are blank, etc.
Where did they go and are they recoverable?

  • Lost itunes backup data.

I backed up my iphone before i restored it and the process was all going well, i had it backed up to the backup i made before the restore. My computer just suddenly crashed out of nowhere. I set everything back up and tried to re back it all up but the only back up it was showing was the most recent one. But the most recent one only had my music and apps. So i lost all my contacts, text messages, and photos. It doesn't even show that the back up i did before the restore exist. If anyone knows how to find that backup, please help.

I didn't see an edit available for my previous post but I will add the the file size of the numbers1.6.ipa is 289,371
    if that helps any.

Hey I was searching for some information and I saw you had a partial answer to what I needed help for. I was wondering if you could help me as I've been looking for quite a few days now still needing help... I can get my xml and itl file but what do I do???
I recently purchased an 80gb Ipod because my old Ipod's (3g 40gb) battery was nearly dead. I don't store my songs on my computer but I still have them on my old ipod. What I want to do is I want to transfer EVERYTHING from my old to new ipod (playlist, playcount, date of last played, ratings). Basically have the same data from my old ipod on my newer one. But I mean when I transfer my songs through iTunes and all, the data that I want to transfer as well doesn't carry over, just the songs (play count, ratings, etc. goes blank). Can you help me please!?! How can I transfer play counts, ratings, dates, and playlist?
    PLEASE HELP!

  • ITunes updates songs, playlists, etc., but will not update iPod options

When I plug in my iPod (4G, 40GB), everything syncs as it should --songs, playlists, podcasts, etc. The same is true when I manually choose to update the pod. (i.e. from a context menu or somewhere else in the UI) However, I am unable to change any of the options for the iPod. This includes renaming, choosing disk access, etc.
When I attempt to make these changes from the "Preferences" dialog, iTunes will say "Updating iPod," etc. but while the changes appear in iTunes, they are not actually made on the iPod itself.
A similar situation occurs when renaming the iPod. Same as before, iTunes "goes through the motions" but doesn't actually change. The difference is that after the iPod is renamed, it will no longer update until the iPod is ejected and reconnected. iTunes gives an error message saying: "The iPod '[New Name]' cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to." The name listed in the iPod's About menu is still the old name.

iPod freezing up can sometimes indicate a hard drive failure. To determine this, follow these steps:
Press menu + select until the apple logo appears.
With the apple logo still on the screen, press and hold select + rewind. You will soon see a screen that says "IRAM PASS HIT PLAY CONTINUE".
    Press play/pause.
Using the forward button, navigate to "HDD SCAN" and select it.
Connect your iPod to the wall adapter.
Allow sufficient time for the scan to complete, it can take a couple of hours. Results such as a "HDD PASS" that appears in seconds or a minute or two, "SCAN NG" or "RD FAIL" indicate the iPod's hard drive is pooched and the unit will have to be replaced.
Freezing during sync can also happen if the ports are not high powered USB 2.0.

If your music is at the default location in the 'iTunes Music' folder, backup the entire iTunes folder (in ./Users/YourUsername/Music).
The iTunes folder contains the 'iTunes Library' file, which contains your playlists, podcast subscriptions, ratings etc.
More info about the library files here:
What are the iTunes library files?

  • Lost iTunes with Windows update, now I can't sync iPod Touch

My computer recently updated windows and I lost iTunes and my music library.  When I re-installed iTunes, I tried to sync my iPod but it's telling me that I am synced with another library and it wont let me transfer my music from my iPod to the music library.  It will only let me transfer purchased music.  Is there a way I can restore my old library or will I have to start fresh all over again?  It will not let me sync my iPod with my daughters either whether home-sharing is on or not.  I also tried home-sharing, it does nothing.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put verything back.

  • After the recent iPhoto upgrade, I've completely lost access to the application and my photos and it says that its not supported on this version of Mac. Any idea whats gone wrong?

After a recent upgrade, I've completely lost iPhotos and all my pholto files.
It now comes up with 'You cant open the application iPhoto because it is not supported on this type of Mac'
    Any ideas whats gone wrong?

    Reinstall it:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
