Recharge battery every day or plug into wall?

Never had a laptop before. I use all of the battery power every day or every other day. Have been using only on battery and recharging every day or every other day. Is it okay to use plugged into the wall?

Don't do this if you don't need to. You should run your battery all the way out (i.e., calibrate it) every month or two, but such constant complete-cycle use will kill your battery quickly.
Is it okay to use plugged into the wall?
Yes.

It sounds very very much like the battery. You will need to have it replaced. If you put the failing one in yourself you will need to pay as your Warranty is now void.

  • Iphone #GS died suddenly.  Works plugged into wall but not unplugged.

Iphone 3GS approx 1.5 years old (I'm not able to upgrade at reduced price until at least FEB so I was hoping to keep this until the next gen is released MAR-MAY).
My Iphone is my all in one device and never away from me. Today I sent a text while in a store and it just died. at the time that it died it had approx 85% bat life. I couldn't get it to restart no matter what I did. (power button, reboot with power button and home button). I then brought it home and when I plug it into the wall I can get it to come up but it wont connect it says "SEARCHING" for network and the WIFI option is grayed out. the second I unplug it from charger it dies even though it still shows 85% BAT. My first thought was to backup my data and reset phone thru I tunes so I plugged the phone into my mac mini and tried to get it to start it wont. So phone dies the second I unplug from wall but it wont do anything other than tell me to reset thru itunes which I can not do since I cant be plugged into wall AND mac at the same time. Someone please help me. Searching online I have found other people who have posted EXACT same issue but none with a posted resolution. PLEASE HELP! Thanks~

I dont think so. But why is it that it won't work while plugged into the computer. That is supposed to also charge it. And why unlike other products when battery is worn out where it progresses over weeks or months to get shorter and shorter battery life did this suddenly go from holding a full day+ charge and showing 85% bat life to poof nothing.

  • Can batttery be bypassed? do i have to unplug and plug into wall always?

hi, im looking at buying a macbook or macbook pro.
when i plug in the power adaptor to the wall socket,
    the battery gets charged right?
isnt there a way to NOT use the battery, and so just draw
    power from the wall socket?
cause mostly the laptop will be stationary in my room, with
music devives connected to it............will i have to unplug the adaptor
when the battery is full? or can i leave the adaptor plugged into the wall ALL THE TIME? .........do i HAVE TO unlug and plug the adaptor in accordingly to battery level????
if i take the battery out, and just plug into the wall, will this work???
    thanks

    Hi,
I'll second that opinion. MacBook Pro has a lithium ion technoogy battery that tolerates charging even when not fully discharged. There is a smart charge regulator in the battery pack itself that prevents over-charge. It is safe to leave the battery in the MacBook Pro and connect to wall power when convenient.
The typical number of charge/discharge cycles for the battery pack is around 300 to 500. The battery pack will gradually lose capacity as it ages.
Also it helpful to recalibrate the battery once in a while. Calibration gets the smart charge regulator back in sync with the actual capacity of the battery. Basically, calibration is using the computer until the computer wants to shut off because the battery charge is depleted. Then, fully charge the battery. The regulator will then figure out the actual working capacity of the battery. Calibrating assures the battery indicator in the menu bar shows an accurate estimated capacity.

  • Can i charge my iPod shuffle whilst listening to Music? (plugged into wall and using twin audio jack?

I want to connect my iPod shuffle to a telephone line so when people are put on hold they can listen to music, however the battery will die after some time.
Can i charge the iPod whilst listening to music simultaneously?  (Plugged into wall not computer)

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
The iPod will support playback and charging only if you have a wire that supports it. Since both audio out and electricity flow through the 1 headphone port you would need a cord of some sorts that will allow the iPod to charge and include audio out. As far as using it on a telephone. If the telephone you are using supports and audio input using the headphone jack then you could use the iPod shuffle as telephone music. If not than the iPod Shuffle may not be the best tool for you.

  • My ipad has the message-This ipad hasn't been backed up in two weeks. Backups happen when this ipad is plugged in, locked, and connected to wi-fi.  I press ok and nothing happens.  I have it locked, plugged into wall, and conected to wi-fi.

Go to Settings, iCloud, and then Storage and Backup.  You will then see a button to backup your iPad.  It may be that you have much stuff (i.e. photos, apps) for it to do a full backup but you will be able to tell what the estimated backup should be and what it will consist of so that you can choose to prune down items.  If you don't want to backup and get rid of the messages you can just turn backup off from this area as well.

  • Can get past the "Power adapter plugging into wall" icon

I just got my brothers older 60gb Photo ipod and am trying to get it working on my computer. Did the whole restore thing, but now it is stuck at the Power adapter plugging into wall icon. I didn't have the original wall plug so I got a universal one at Radio Shack. Only the ipod still has the darn icon on it and I can't get past it. Any suggestions>

Lets do a trick. Connect the iPod and the cabel. The USB connector has 2 prongs that stick out a little more than the rest the goal. is to push it in a little so it charges but does not sync. Give It A Try.

  • If mag safe is plugged into wall, but unplugged from laptop, does it still draw power?, if mag safe is plugged into wall, but unplugged from laptop, does it still draw power?

if mag safe is plugged into wall, but unplugged from laptop, does it still draw power?

My Kill-A-Watt meter indicates that my 85W MagSafe adapter draws about one watt when it's plugged into the wall but not powering anything. The meter doesn't measure fractional watts, so that's probably rounded up from a fraction.
When my 15" MBP is connected to the adapter but asleep, about two watts are drawn -- somewhat less than a small incandescent night-light.

  • IPod Classic won't turn on unless plugged into wall even though battery is charged

I plugged in my old iPod Classic and charged it up for a long time. I got that little plug symbol that indicates that it's fully charged. The iPod turns on and works fine when it's plugged into the wall, but as soon as I unplug it, it won't do anything at all. Just black screen. I also tried plugging it into the computer. Nothing.
I tried re-setting by toggling the "Hold" button and then pressing Play/Pause and Menu at the same time. Nothing.
Why would it be fine when plugged into the wall but not when unplugged or plugged into the computer? Is it possible that is really is not fully charged even though it did show that little plug symbol? It had been just sitting for many months.

    Hi there,
How old is your Classic? Often, after a couple of years, rechargable batteries begin to fail, especially after such a long period of inactivity. This happens with any gadget with this type of battery.
Try leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, and try again, to rule out that it isn't just really low on charge. If this doesn't help, it may be a good time to buy a replacement. New iPod Nanos and Touches will be released this October.
Below, I've linked to an Apple website which explains rechargable batteries, and why yours may not be working.

I hope this helps, and I hope upgrading your device will not feel like an unnecessary expense. Let me know if you have any more questions,
    Nathan

  • IPod Video 80GB shows "Low Battery, Please Wait" but when plugged into wall, works fine.

I have an iPod Video 80GB and it worked perfectly fine until now....when it is plugged into my computer (all ports attempted), it shows "Low Battery, Please Wait" and then when I plug it into the wall, it reboots, shows the normal silver apple, and everything is all fine. The iPod is dependent off of a power source, as it cannot function right now without one.

That's usually a good indication that the iPod's battery is shot an in need of a replacement especially considering it's from an iPod Video, which have been out for a number of years now.  You can pay Apple to have it replaced or you can send it in to a third party repair center for a bit less.

  • Dropped iPhone 4s and now won't turn on unless plugged into wall

    Hi there,
So I dropped my iphone 4s onto a hard floor 2 days ago, it was at 95% battery at that point. It now will only turn on when I plug it into the wall, and as soon as I unplug it, the phone turns off immediately.
When it is plugged into the wall it shows 100% battery and the signal (both wireless and carrier) are very touchy and it says 'searching...' a lot of the time.
I have had the phone for 19 months now and am out of warranty. It is also worth noting that 1 month ago I replaced the battery myself because I was having battery issues and it has been working perfectly since then up until this incident.
If anyone has any idea of how to fix this or any idea of what the problem may be it would be much appreciated. I have tried holding the home screen and top button simultaneously and also tried plugging into my laptop to restore but the laptop will not start the phone up, it just goes into a cycle of going to apple logo screen and then shutting off.
    Thanks very much.

The drop either jarred loose the battery connection or cracked the main circuit board. As you have repaired it yourself Apple won't touch it, so you might as well take it apart and see what has happened.
