  • What is the expected battery life for a battery in the MacBook Pro (Late 2007)?

I purchased a replacement battery from an Apple Retailer for my son's 17" MacBook Pro (Late 2007) in December 2009. Last week, he gets a "service battery" message and the battery won't hold a charge. Is this the best we can expect in terms of battery life? It was supposed to be an Apple Battery.

Has your son been calibrating the battery per the user manual schedule?  Has he been using the computer properly? According to the user manual it states in part:"Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow or other soft material, as the material can block the airflow vents. Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro. Never push objects into the ventilation openings."
MacBook Pro: Care, Use, and Safety Information

  • Can i use an WD Scorpio Black 750GB in my Macbook pro late 2007 ver 3.1 ??

    Hi everybody
Just wondering of I would run into problems installing an WD Scorpio Black 750GB in my Macbook pro late 2007 ver 3.1. 2.6Ghz.
Already have 2 500GB installed in RAID but need more space and want to upgrade but someone told me that this MBP ver 3.1 only supports max 500GB drives......
    Is that true??
    Thanks
    Uffe / Lobojuan

If the hard drive is 9.5mm thick any SATA hard drive can be used.
A few may require jumpers if they are higher than 1.5Gbps in data speed.
Only 17" MacBook Pros of that generation could take 12.5mm thick drives.
The capacity is not normally the limit anymore, it is the thickness and data path speeds that make a difference. Also your machine supports external SATA drives that are 3.5" with this adapter:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/EXP34SATA2P1/
These drives are faster than any internal, ethernet, or Firewire drives you can add to your machine.

  • MacBook Pro Late 2007 Keyboard Cleaning

I have a Macbook Pro Late 2007 with the older style keyboard and I really want to clean it because there are dust around the keys. I tried spraying compressed air but that only got me so far, so I was wondering is it a good idea to take the keys apart and clean it or is there a better way to do it? If the Apple Store has a service for this then I'd be grateful to bring my laptop in.

I've taken off notebook keys to replace them - but never removed them all to clean them. I would be a bit nervous doing that as it's fairly easy to snap those caps. You can call the Apple Store to ask - or just make an appointment for a Genius Bar visit and see what they say they can or may do.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

Beeps at startup are an indication that there is not enough working RAM DIMMs to start up.

  • Black screen after upgrading ram (macbook pro late 2007)

    Dear Community,
I am willing to donate 100 USD to anyone who is willing/able to provide concrete resolution to this problem.
I am a professional freelance videoeditor and my job is currently stucked due to inability to boot my macbook pro again.
After upgrading the RAM of my MBP (late 2007 model, 17'' display, Intel 2.4GHz Dual Core processor), the screen went black and the system did not boot any more.
    I tried to replace the orginal 2 x 1GB DDR2 533 CL=5 SODIMM (single rank) with 2  X 2GB DDR2 800 CL=6 SODIMM (dual ranks).
After the memory upgrade, the system was restarted, I heard a short beep, but the macbook showed a black screen instead of booting properly. The mainboard was powered, the fan was moving. I saw a green led turned on on the center of one side of the macbook.
I tried to mount the previuos 2 x 1GB DRAM SODIMMs, but nothing happened. The system keeps not booting even with the original memory.
I tried already several procedures suggested by the user manual, related to SMC Intel controller reset (with battery and without battery and charger), but those were not effective in restoring the normal operation of the macbook. The system keeps not booting with exactly similar issues (black screen, fan on, short beep after power-on, green LED on).
I also tried to swap the memory DIMMs into the memory sockets. I tried to use a different combination with 1 NEW 2GB and 1 OLD 1GB  DIMM. But the problem is still there with similar sympthoms.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUE OF HOW TO SOLVE THIS?

My best guess is that you have fried the RAM with static electricity charged up in your body. According to OGELTHORPE a beep on startup is because of no RAM, if when installing you did not do it correctly, you could have fried the RAM, which then your mac will not recognize it. The same with the old RAM, if you tried to re-install it and didn't pull up your sleeve and rest your arm on the inside of the chassis, then it is fried, or if you didn't wear an ESD band and connect it to the the chassis, then it is fried.
Seen as though you can't startup your mac, I can't say to do an AHT, buy some new ram, and start with the lowest one you can, so its cheap for ya use a different company incase is that;) Crucial.com is really good, I got an 8gb upgrade from 2gb. Let me tell you, it's great!
    Reply back;)

  • Macbook Pro Late 2007 Won't Power On

My Macbook Pro's battery has been going for a while. It's needed to be plugged in to operate for at least a year. I shut it down last night. This morning, I tried to power on while plugged into wall, and the light on the Clamshell opener on the front will only flash while I'm holding down the button. I can hear the hard drive whirring, but when I let go of the button, everything shuts down. If I continue to hold the button, after about fifteen seconds the Clamshell light begins flickering and everything shuts off.
I've removed and reinserted the battery, checked battery status with button on bottom (all four green lights light up) checked the adapter for debris and damaged pins, unplugged from wall and replugged in two minutes later, and nothing seems to work.
Is this battery totally shot, or is there something seriously wrong with the machine? I've got a lot of stuff that I can't lose on that machine, so I'm hoping the hard drive isn't fried and, worst case scenario, if the machine is dead, I can get what I need off the hard drive and put on a different machine.
Anyone else seen anything like this before?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just guessing, but the flashing light may be an indicater that your RAM is bad or not being seen.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2341?viewlocale=en_US
Try reseating the RAM. If it's third-party RAM and you still have the original Apple RAM, try the Apple RAM. If your computer doesn't see any RAM, it won't start.
Chances are your hard drive and data are OK since you can hear the drive spin up.
Here is another article which may be of help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1365
Whenever you get back up and running, buy an external drive and make a backup and keep it up to date. Otherwise you are at risk of losing everything if your drive does fail.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook Pro late 2007 overheating with lion

    Greetings:
I seem to be having overheating problems on my late 2007 MacBook Pro running Lion. Is there a possibility that I may have to clean the insides of my MBP? I have smcFan control running at 4,000 RPM and that seems to keep it somewhat cool.
    Thanks,

    Tom,
Your logic is unassailable. After a few years, even a small amount of dust can really cause a machine to overheat. I'm a religious user of SMC Fan Control, though my fan is around 2000rpm.
Cleaning the inside of your MBP is very easy. Open the case, and use a blower to disperse the dust. The whole procedure should take under five minutes. If you're uncomfortable doing it, visit your local friendly Apple Store; they'll be happy to blow out the dust for free.
It's also a good idea to post here in case the advice is really good, or not, or if you still have questions.

  • MacBook Pro (Late 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) - Built-in isight camera issue

I have a MBP (as mentioned, Late 2007) running Lion 10.7.2 (updated yesterday). And I have a problem with the built-in iSight camera
Same with photo booth and skype.
    So far I have tried
    1) shutdown, unplug power, remove battery, press power for 5 seconds, plug battery back, plug power, boot. No help. No LED's light up to make my day.
    2) Press P R - Alt Cmd during boot (2/3 cycles like that)
Could anyone throw some light into this?
    Much thanks in advance.

    Try reinstalling Lion:
    Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • MacBook Pro ( Late 2007) Replacement LCD Issues

    Hey everyone,
I'm new to the forum and I was hoping you guys could help me out.
I have a MacBook Pro 2,2Ghz Santa Rosa, with a failing LCD. ( 2/3 of the LCD panel are just black...) So, I took it appart and found the panel inside my MBP to be a LG LP154WP2 TL-A1. I bought a new LCD panel from eBay which was described as being compatible with my MBP. When it arrived, it turned out to be a LG LP154WP2 TL-A3.
When I connect this panel to my MBP logicboard, I only get a white screen. System boots up normaly and I can see it in the network, and when I hook op an external display, is get a normal dekstop.
I did a SMC reset twice, cleared the NVRAM/PRAM and triple checked al connections ( LVDS on logicboard and display ) but everything is oke.
The eBay seller claims this panel has to work with this model MacBook Pro, and actually send me another panel, also a TL-A3, but I get the same white screen.. When I hook up the original TL-A1, I get picture again...
So my question, Is the TL-A3 panel compatible with my MBP, or do I need a different revision LVDS cable, or what else am I doing wrong?
Thanks for the help in advance

    Hi Wiebo,
seeing you are also from the Low Countries (I am from Flanders), I could just as easily answer you in Dutch. For good Forum order, lets stick to English.
From experience, I can tell you that a blank display is mostly due to a faulty Data Display Cable or connector, in both cases in this thread possibly an incompatible cable or connector, probably meaning you will have to stick to the exact TL-A1 in both your cases. If the new display has a bigger resolution than the original, probably the cable will have more data lines.
Do the connectors on the TFT side look exactly alike on both the defective TFT and the replacement part?
Also, you could as a last resort try to put the connectors on the mainboard slightly askew. I have a Powerbook which was cured in this way.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook pro late 2007 - Black screen in Lion

I have a big problem with the new Lion install and updates, I install the soft all was ok untill this morning I turn on the laptopn and Black screen. I foun this message in errors:
kernel extension info no kext loaded
So I keep re boot and reload the system all day but I think in uninstall the Lion untill this is FIX. Any help will be good.
    Thanks in Advance.

Just to add - I too have had this problem with my late 2007 Intel, Core 2 Duo MBP. Installed Lion, Restarted, black screen - several times. Apple Genius tested the graphics card for the global fault with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M, but found it innocent. Can only put this down to Lion's Nvidia Drivers that are also causing problems with 2010 MBP's
I have reinstalled SL from clone I made prior to Lion, and all is back to normal.

My main concern is: could this be overheating related?
Temperature levels are affected by several things such as the type and number of applications open, the ambient temperature, how the MBP is physically positioned and occasionally by foreign matter inside the unit.  The temperatures that you describe for given circumstances are not necessarily out of line.  Here is a screenshot of a temperature monitor from my MBP as I respond to you:
This is with a very light load on the MBP resources and is less than the 50°c that you report, but there could be explanations for the differences.  The specific details would have to be examined but all told I do not view this as a matter for grave concern.
Temperatures in the 90°c+ range are not unusual when running applications such as Skype or rendering video.  Again knowing the details would be required to make a definitive statement one way or the other.
Be aware that there are thermal shutdown provisions in the MBP that will protect it from heat damage.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro late 2007

Black screen, no light, doesn't boot. Reset of SMC already done. Any other idea?

    Take it in for service.

  • Everytime I come home from being somewhere else my macbook pro(late 2007) will not connect to my airport express(802.11n)

Also, my airport utility can never find the airport express either.  It keeps searching and searching.  I've downloaded all the updates, as far as I know...
Also, my iPhone 5 won't connect either.  And the iPhone 4 I had before wouldn't either!
    Thanks!

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership. If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to  exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different.
