Recieved youview box yesterday, doesn't turn on at...

Received my youview box yesterday, I unwrapped it all myself and took it out of the box. Plugged everything in that it asked me to and turned the box on.. absolutely nothing happens. No lights on the box at all, no sound coming from the box to indicate something moving inside. I left the box on for a few hours and when I came back to it the tv had turned off onto standby and the youview box was stone cold. Any ideas? I already have a bt engineer coming out tomorrow but if there is an alternate solution to my problem, that saves the visit, I would like to know!

If it blew a fuse the first time you switched it on, then there would be something wrong with it.
Another stupid obvious question - have you checked the socket works by plugging something else in?

  • Youview Box

Signed up with BT almost two years ago , i recieved a Youview box , its been fine until i signed up again for a further 18 months.
The Box has started playing up now , if the TV is off all day , it takes a good ten minutes before the picture is watchable when knocked on , also the delay when changing channels is unreal , seems to take an eternity.
    Any help appreciated

    Hi
Presuming your broadband etc are all working without issue then try turning it off on the box/at the wall, waiting for 20 seconds then turning it on again. Then switch on the box with the remote and after it has restarted leave it alone for another 30 seconds to give it a chance to finish booting up; this clears the majority of minor issues.
If that doesnt work then please come back and one of the gurus will step in.

  • Youview box starting up woes

Hi Folks, I'm rather new to all this forum malarkey and not in the least bit technical but here goes.
I returned from a week away this week to find my BT Youview box won't start up properly, having been left in standby mode and left on at the mains, (I was watching TV the day I left and it was working fine).
Upon my return I used the remote control to turn it on which brought up the 'BT logo/waking up screen' followed by the Youview screen with the 'adjust eco mode' message followed by the 'Nearly ready' screen; at which point it cuts out and does all of the above repeatedly.
I've turned the switch off and on at the back of the box which brings up a red light on the front of the box then a blue light as it restarts but it just does above cycle again.
I've tried the factory reset by pressing the down arrow for several seconds as instructed which then brings up a maintenance message which the box doesn't respond to when I press standby. I've turned it off at the mains and again it cuts out after the nearly ready screen.
I've had the box 9 months since upgrading to Infinity & its always been working ok up to this point. Does anyone know if it's possible to fix this as I would rather not have to put in a call to the BT helpdesk as I know from past experience its a misson to get anything resolved with them!

KG40 - welcome to the community.
Starting up the maintenance mode can be a bit fiddly  so always best to try the process a couple of times - Not sure which Youview box model you have - the guide to using the maintenance mode is at
    http://support.youview.com/articles/Self_Service_FAQ/How-do-I-perform-a-maintenance-mode-recovery-13...
Given that you have been away - I would be inclined to try the following (seperately)
    -   -reboot your router/home hub and try again
    -  power off the Youview box , take out your ethernet cable from the Youview box  , power back on and see if it will start up.

  • New YouView box seems to cause wireless to stop wo...

I recently upgraded to a YouView box for my TV. The things is, since I've installed this, it seems to cut out the wireless connection to other devices in my home. (In particular, my wireless printer and windows phone.)
When I reset the Hub, the printer then works fine for a while but my phone doesn't and it's not long until I have to reset the whole thing again because it's stopped working.
I've tried moving the Hub further away from the YouView box and closer to the printer but it doesn't help. All worked perfectly before I got the YouView box, I never needed to reset the Hub at all.
I hope someone can help? Many thanks in anticipation!

    Hi Pauline85,
Thanks for posting. Have you tried changing the wireless channel? Take a look at How do I change the wireless channel on my BT Home Hub? and let us know how you get on.

  • Macbook Pro Screen doesn't turn on?

So, I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro 15". About two weeks ago, my macbook screen just stopped working. I shut it down, and since then it's been practically "dead". The display doesn't turn on, the logo on the back is off; Essentially, the whole display of the mac doesn't get powered on.  However, the startup noise is still there when I turn it on. I've been using it in a monitor as of now and it works fine with the monitor. This is the thing though, the screen is perfectly fine!! About a week ago in the morning when I turned it on, the display turned on. the screen had been white, and the apple logo popped up, it looked completely fine. Sadly I had to go to school and when I came back, no matter how many times I restarted it or did anything to it, the screen would just not turn on. Yesterday, I was showing my friend and restarted it, turned it on, then nothing. Tried it again while doing random keyboard strokes and the display turns on. Excitement in my eyes, it actually restarts and for the first time in two weeks I was to see my desktop and see my mouse moving around, all the icons, everything! The display and everything on it was working perfectly normal, no noise, no distortion, no odd colour, no issues on the display at all. My friend boots it to windows and the display stops working and again since then it hasn't worked. It's alive and perfectly normal in there, but I just don't know how to give it what it needs to bring it back that way.
Does anyone know anything to help me on this? It's quite frustrating when you see it work, then shut off. I can't use it at school to do my work anymore and it's such a nuisance.

You have a hardware problem. More than likely it is the cable that goes from the logic board to the display. It sounds like an internmitent short. Works sometimes not at other times.
The only way to fix a hardware problem is to replace the faulty piece of hardware and the only people that do that is either an Apple store or an Apple authorized repair center. That is unless you can diagnose the actual failed hardware part, find one from an Aftermarket Mac parts seller and replace the part yourself.

  • Using video sender with Youview box

I have just set up my new youview box.
With my previous BT box I was able to use a nikkai video sender so I could control and watch the TV/box in another room.
This doesn't seem to work with this new box. Is is incompatible for some reason?
Is that I just haven't put the "receiver" widget near enough to the infra red on the box.
    Greatful for any help! Thanks

    Hi Poynders,
Thanks for posting. Take a look at YouView screens not visible over AV / video sender . It’s an older thread but might help. Let us know how you get on.

  • Original Humax Youview box - no picture.

    Hi.
Over the month or so my Youview box has been behaving very oddly. When it wakes from sleep very often I get no picture and no sound. My TV says "no input" on the HDMI.
The box starts booting with the "Nearly ready" graphic showing... then when the TV picture should appear I get nothing. The remote still works though and I can change channels.
Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes turning it off and on again brings it to life. Sometimes the only thing that brings the box to life is to do a factory reset in maintance mode.
Maybe this is a software issue? Has anyone else experienced this, or do any of the mods know what my course of action should be?
    Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply - I've been away... Couldn't see a link in your profile for "contact the mods".
I don't think is anything to do with the tuner, because the channel name and number are shown in the LED matrix display on the front of the Humax..
I had a bad night with the box last night, just decided randomly to stop showing the picture and cut off the sound. Put it into standby and back on again and everything would come back to life.. Tried it this morning and got the purple screen. Powered off with the switch on the back, waited a while. Turned back on, this time I'm getting nothing - not even the "nearly ready" screen... But as ever, the channels are still shown on the LED display and Ican change channels with the remote.
Looks like another maintance mode reset when I get home for work
Should I just try to get customer services to send me a new box? Is that how this works? Haha. Any further help/suggestions/ideas would be appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Two Youview boxes

I bought a YouView box  a couple of months ago and yesterday accepted a BT offer to take another for £25 plus £5 a month for BT Vision.  I understand my BT YouView consumption will not count towards my 40Gb Infinity limit: but will that now also apply to the non-BT YouView box I bought?

Given that BT & youview both don't officially support (offer)  multiroom - I suspect you won't get a definitive answer as if they don't offer a product (multiroom) you are hardly going to have any Terms & Conditions for it.
    A BT Help page says
Does my YouView viewing count towards my broadband usage allowance?
No, not if you have a BT Vision subscription. If you have any BT Vision subscription such as Essential or Unlimited, then none of the On Demand programmes, whether it’s from BBC iPlayer, Now TV or BT Vision, count towards your monthly broadband usage allowance.
This suggests to me that currently its probably down to whether or not you have a suitable  BT TV subscription on your registered broadband line rather than the Youview box used. I could be wrong of course .

  • Running a youview box from a broadband extender

    Hi,
I run my Youview + box successfully from a broadband extender flex 500 successfully. I have the unlimited broadband infinity 1 package. I wish to order a second youview box(the one that doesn't record). I was told that I could not use this same system with the second box because it has to have an Ethernet cable to the modem. They consider the system I use to be 'wireless'and therefore not suitable. They say I can only run one youview box on a broadband extender system. Is this the case? Does anyone else run two youview boxes on the broadband extender system. They said it is not an Ethernet connection (I thought that was the whole point!) using this method. Please could someone confirm this for me and /or explain why it won't work!
    Many thanks.

BT never used to accept Powerline adapters at all. At least they seem to accept 500mpbs devices as valid for one box now.
However I suspect that they don't want to risk people complaining if people take out an extra box subscription and have problems if, say, both boxes are used for watching and recording HD channels simultaneously via Powerline.
To be clear there is no reason why you can't run two boxes off the same Powerline AV500 network except that if one or both of your adapters have low throughput (due to mains interference, poor wiring etc.) you could struggle trying to use both boxes simultaneously for both viewing and recording IPTV. If you are prepared to take the risk, go for it! (BT won't help you if you have problems though).

  • Palm Pre Plus turned off and it doesn't turn back on

OK yesterday I was using my phone and I left it lying on my bed, 5 minutes later I try and use it and it's like turned off, it doesn't turn back on, I know the battery isn't dead because the battery was at 70 %, I didn't drop any liquids on it and when I called it, it's like its turned off but I can't turn it back on and I can't charge it either and I know it's not disconnected so I don't know what the problem is so any help would be nice and I'm new to this community so I don't know if this is the right section to post this but again help me out please
PS I've only dropped it once and that drop wasn't enough to break it or anything
Post relates to: Pre Plus p101vzw (Verizon)

Hello lafan and welcome to the forums,
I'm sorry your having this issue.  You could try holding the power button down and switching the ringer switch back and forth 3 times.
If this doesn't work, you could also try pulling the battery and re-seting it to see if the device powers back up.
If this does not work, I would suggest replacing the battery, possibly the device.
Let us know if this helps..
    Thanks,
    Colapop

  • Pre bought YouView box

I am disapointed about the misleading informaiton presented on the TV screen of my YouView box.
I got a YouView box from PC World when they first came out, i did not have BT at the time. I recently got BT and when i re-connected my box i begun to see the BT Vision service! I was really interested in getting BT Vision and when i clicked on the service i got a welcome page instructing me about the Free 30 day trial, and the £10 a month service - subscription free.
So i went online as the instructions on the screen told me but i could not find any information about this free trail or the £10 a month service. After over a hour of trying to find more info and getting intouch with customer sercive from which i was passed to four different people who had no idea about the £10 service which it clearly says on my screen, i was told i woul have to buy a new box or pay £5 a month for just the on demand... which i allready recieve free from YouView and take out a 12 month contract.
I find this is totaly false advertising and disapointing that i am a willing to pay for the one off on demand services and was even intersted in a subscription. Why does it instruct me about a subscrioption free service thats £10 when it is actually £12.50 in a 12 month contract.
I feel i am being penalised for buying my box outright and that BT are loosing custom and many people like myself may have a box before i switch.
    Has anyone else experianced this?

The advisor merely made a mistake. As someone with their own YouView box you sign up via this link:
    http://bt.com/player
where, as you'll see, the unlimited plan costs £10pm and the pay-as-you-go plan costs nothing per month and then you pay-as-you-go.

  • Macbook just doesn't turn on?

I've had this problem recently. I got home from work, did some web browsing etc. and shut my computer off. The next morning I woke up and tried to turn my computer on but to no avail, it just didn't turn on. The lights almost lit up, but slowly dimmed. Now, a few days later, nothing works at all. It just doesn't turn on anymore. I purchased this MacBook in December of 07' and I love it dearly and would like to hopefully figure out what caused it just to simply not work anymore.

    Almost certainly a hardware problem.
If you have no warranty you can grab a screw driver and check the power and ram without too much hassle if you have friends with macs. You don't give that much information but if it is starting up then sleeping it could be a reed switch (or whatever it is called now) problem causing your box to think it is always lid closed and supposed to sleep.
Try a working powerchord/battery and ram and see if that helps. If it doesn't then perhaps a bit more information on what "exactly" is happening might give some other some ideas otherwise take it to a shop.
From what I've heard sounds more like a ram or logicboard problem which is nice that you can save your HD and the stuff on it. Anyways there is likely no easy fix unless it happens to be bad ram. Sorry.

  • Why can't I use a Vision+ and a YouView Box

    Hi,
I'm with BT and pay £5 a month for BT Vision. I have their YouView box in one room. They only allow BT Sport on the YouView box if you have fibre and there's no fibre in my area. I asked BT if I could run a YouView box and BT Vision box at the same time and they said no. I ordered a BT Vision Card for a tenner via the online BT shop and bought a BT Vision+ box off eBay for 99p. My assumption was that I couldn't run both boxes at the same time (ie connected to the hub)......not a problem I can only watch one TV at a time!
I've disconnected the YouView from the BT Hub and connected the Vision+ Box but I get a C03 message saying my Vision+ isn't activated. Am I right in thinking BT must be able to activate one of two Vision services depending on the box? My initial assumption was that only one box could physically be connect at any one time.
Has anyone else experienced similar? Is there any way around this? Seems unfair as I am a BT Vision customer, I am paying £5 a month and if I want to watch BT Sport I have to give up my YouView box. BT say I can watch their channel via the web.....not being funny but a simple google search and I could watch their channel without even needing to sign up!!!!!
    Thanks
    Louis

It sounds like the 99p BT Vision+ box is running the Classic software rather than the New Look software. This is something you really should have checked before buying a second hand box. Once such boxes are deactivated they are effectively a door-stop unless BT choose to reactivate them. The box would need to be reactivated and then BT would need to send the New Look software upgrade to it in order for you to be able to use the viewing card for BT Sport.
I don't know, but suspect that BT would be reluctant to activate and upgrade a box that wasn't issued to you directly by them. They have been gradually turning off the Classic software over the last year or so and it involves older licensing agreements with Microsoft and content providers. Plus it might cause the central system problems now that you have a newer BT Youview box associated with your account. I suppose there's no harm in asking though?

  • IMac display doesn't turn back on after sleep

This is a new problem on my two-year old iMac, and didn't happen before. What is happening with my iMac is that when it goes to sleep and the display turns off, the display doesn't turn back on when I move the mouse, press the keys or the power button.
It happens only after around 12 hours or so of inactivity, it seems. I have to reboot the iMac to force the display to turn back on. I think it is display issue, not the computer lockup because I checked which logs were written in /var/log - system.log was being written until I rebooted the iMac. However, I didn't see any information in there around the same time that I tried to turn the iMac back on.
Any ideas on how to debug the issue.

    Hi dailyjoe
    1. Reset your SMC exactly as instructed in the following article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
    2. It would be normal for you to have to startup your iMac if it lost power while in sleep mode, look at the box "Start up automatically after a power failure" in the Energy Saver preference.
I have always left the box for "Start up automatically after a power failure" unchecked and do occasionally find the iMac is shutdown because the power has gone off. I would suggest leaving the box unchecked, it's better than having the iMac going off & restarting multiple times if you are having bad weather or power issues.
