Recieving cannot resolve symbol symbol  : class Serializable

I'm receiving the error:
cannot resolve symbol symbol : class Serializable
The class is as follows:
//package cscie160.hw5;
import java.io.Serializable
* @author Eddie Brodie
* @version %I%, %G%
public class AccountInfo implements Serializable
     public int _accountNumber;
     public int _pin;
     public AccountInfo(int accountNumber, int pin)
          _accountNumber = accountNumber;
          _pin = pin;
I've tried importing java.*
I've also checked my classpath.
Any ideas?

Try taking the import statement out of the comment block; that might help

    i think u didnt set path currectly.
    u can set path in two ways.
    1) By Using Environmen Varibles
    2) By Creating .bat file.

  • Cannot resolve the symbol while using use bean in jsp

    Hi,
              Jsp with weblogic version 4.5 were running fine. When running on
              weblogic server 6.1 I get an error while running jsp pages cannot resolve
              symbol
              probably due to
              <jsp:useBean id = "hmllinkbean1" class="com.accupac.html.htmllink.LinkRS"/>
              I have the bean classes in
              config/accudomain/applications/DefaultWebApp_myserver/Web-inf/classes/
              and jsp files in the directory
              config/accudomain/applications/DefaultWebApp_myserver/
              Any help will be appreciated.
              Thanks
              madhu

    Three possibilities:
              Is your directory name really "Web-inf"? That will not work. It needs to be "WEB-INF".
              In WEB-INF, do you have:
              classes/com/accupac/html/htmllink/LinkRS.class
              When you say "cannot resolve symbol", is it the LinkRS class that it can't resolve?

  • Sqlj class definition -- cannot resolve in other classes

         public void createEmployeeDAO (EmployeeDTO employeeDTO)
              throws SQLException {
                   SQLJConnection connCtx = null;
                   try {
                        connCtx = new SQLJConnectionCtx();
                        #sql [connCtx] {insert into ja300_10employee

    But when I try to create an intance of the class the nwds says: can not resolve....
    What goes wrong?

    Hy an thx for your help,
    first of all I have set the reference to the projects.  In the package: com.sap.training.dbaccess are the following files:
    EmployeeDAO.sqlj
    EmployeeDAO.java (empty)
    EmployeeDTO.java
    SQLJConnection.sqlj
    SQLJConnection.sqlj (empty)
    in the package: com.sap.training.ejb i have the SessionBean an in this class I want to have a reference to the EmployeeDAO object as follow:
    public class EmployeeSessionBean implements SessionBean {
         private EmployeeDAO employeeDAO;
         public void ejbRemove() {
         public void ejbActivate() {
         public void ejbPassivate() {
         public void setSessionContext(SessionContext context) {
              myContext = context;
         private SessionContext myContext;
          * Business Method.
         public void createEmployee(EmployeeDTO employeeDTO)
                   throws EmployeeException {
                        try {
                             employeeDAO.createEmployee(employeeDTO);
                        } catch (SQLException e) {
                             e.printStackTrace();
                             throw new EmployeeException("Error while creating new employee: " + e.getMessage());
          * Create Method.
         public void ejbCreate() throws CreateException {
              // TODO : Implement
              employeeDAO = new EmployeeDAO();
    The second line is the bad one An sqlj file i have to use, if i handle with dataaccess / sql statements. Can I have an instance of an sqlj class?

  • ToArray error: cannot resolve symbol

    Hi ther,
    I am getting errors on the line:
    newArray = (char[]) newArrayList.toArray(new char[newArrayList.size()]);
    I am getting the following error:
    vowelProcess.java:176: cannot resolve sybmol
    Symbol : method toArray (char[])
    Location : class java.util.ArrayList
    I cant see what I am doing wrong. I have also tried the following:
    newArray = newArrayList.toCharArray();
    But get a similar error. Here is the entire method:
    public static void getDistinctVowels(char[] vowelArray)
    String newArrayValues; //initialise the option entered by user
    List newArrayList = new ArrayList();
    char[] newArray;
    boolean aValue = false;
    boolean eValue = false;
    boolean iValue = false;
    boolean oValue = false;
    boolean uValue = false;
    for(int i=0; i < vowelArray.length; i++){
         if (vowelArray[i] == 'a')
              aValue = true;
         if (vowelArray[i] == 'e')
              eValue = true;
         if (vowelArray[i] == 'i')
              iValue = true;
         if (vowelArray[i] == 'o')
              oValue = true;
         if (vowelArray[i] == 'u')
              uValue = true;
         } // end of for
    if (aValue == true)
              newArrayList.add(new char['a']);
    if (eValue == true)
              newArrayList.add(new char['e']);
    if (iValue == true)
              newArrayList.add(new char['i']);
    if (oValue == true)
              newArrayList.add(new char['o']);
    if (uValue == true)
              newArrayList.add(new char['u']);
    if (newArrayList.size() > 0)
              newArray = (char[])newArrayList.toArray(new char[newArrayList.size()]);
         String contentsOfNewArray = "";
         for(int i=0; i < newArray.length; i++) {
              contentsOfNewArray = contentsOfNewArray + newArray;
         } // end of for
    System.out.print("The contents of the new array are: " + contentsOfNewArray);
         else
              System.out.print("No values were entered.");
    } //getDistinctVowels
    } //vowelProcess

    one more question on this:
    If I loop through this array and print out the contents, I do not get the character value (should be a,e,i or u) but some other interpretation: "[C@6b97fd" instead of "a"
    here is the code:
    char[][] newArray = (char[][]) newArrayList.toArray(new char[newArrayList.size()][1]);
    System.out.println("The contents of the new array are: ");
         for(int i=0; i < newArray.length; i++) {
              System.out.println("Test: " + (char[])newArray);
         } // end of for
    I have also tried:
    System.out.println("Test: " + newArray[i]);
    or
    System.out.println("Test: " + newArray[i][0]);
    or
    System.out.println("Test: " + newArray[i][1]);
    thanks again.

  • Cannot resolve symbol Scanner

    Hi all,
    i am using the Scanner class, while compiling i got an error cannot resolve the symbol Scanner. i checked my j.dk version also and it's 1.6
    syntax:
    File file = new File(fileName);
    Scanner scanner = new Scanner(file);
    error:
    TextScanner.java:10: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class Scanner
    location: class TextScanner
    Scanner scanner = new Scanner(file);
    java version "1.6.0_01"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_01-b06)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_01-b06, mixed mode, sharing).
    any help is appreciated.

    i have already imported that class.
    C:\Testing\junk\src>javac -d ..\classes forums\java\sun\Test.java
    forums\java\sun\Test.java:14: cannot find symbol
    symbol  : class Scanner
    location: class forums.java.sun.Test
            Scanner tester = new Scanner(System.in);
            ^This is the error I got without the import statement. Notice that it is eeriely similar to the error you received.
    Adding the above import fixed my problem. Make sure you are saving the file before trying to compile it, and that you are not compiling an older version.
    ~Tim
    EDIT: well, that would do it also!

  • GetPort() returns "cannot resolve symbol" error ???

    Hi !
    The bugs database indicate that some errors were fixed with HttpConnection.getPort() and with URL.getPort().
    However when I tried to implement a DataSourceServer class , I get following error when compiling :
    DataSourceServer.java:41: cannot resolve a symbol
    symbol : method getPort()
    Stub code follows :
    package datasource;
    import java.sql.*;
    import javax.sql.*;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
    public class DataSourceServer
      static ResourceBundle bundle = null;
      public static void main(String args[])
        bundle = ResourceBundle.getBundle("DataSource");
        try
          // create and store the parameters used to create the context object
          Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
          env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, bundle.getString("datasource.factory"));
          env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, bundle.getString("datasource.url"));
          // create the context
          Context context = new InitialContext(env);
          // create an Oracle datasource object
          OracleDataSource dataSource = new OracleDataSource();
          ... more code ...
          dataSource.setPortNumber(getPort()); // ERROR occurs here ???
          parm = bundle.getString("datasource.databasename");
          dataSource.setDatabaseName(parm);
          catch (Exception exc) {exc.printStackTrace();}
    }THX

    Hi !
    Okay, but I am not using HttpConnection.
    I am using the getPort() method from the default java.lang.Object ?
    I have tried importing java.net.*; but nope, didn't compile properly either.
    ( long sigh )

  • Error when compiling cannot resolve symbol

    I am kind of new to java please take a look into this code. I am getting this error cannot resolve the symbol.
    this is the first class I saved under folder called javapractice as t1. I don't get any error message when I compile this, but when I compile the second class I got the error message.It would be appreciated if someone can help. thanks
    package javapractice;
    public class t1{
    double a;
    double b;
    double c;
    t1(double ax){
    a = ax;
    b = 0;
    c = 0;
    this is the second class also I saved as t2 under javapractice folder. when I compile this class I got the error cannot resolve the name.
    package javapractice;
    public class t2 {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    t1 d = new t1();
    d.a = 3;
    System.out.println(d.a);
    System.out.println(d.b);
    System.out.println(d.c);

    The problem ist1 d = new t1();You need to pass a double param. to the constructor of t1t1 d = new t1((double)10.0);

    i am most definitely NOT doing down self-teachers (see further down!)... I have the utmost respect to those who have taught themselves complex things successfully and can make a living out of it (I don't think I would have been able to teach myself java froms scratch!)... that's fair play in the job market as far as I am concerned!
    Self-teaching and carpet-bagging are 2 totally different things... I am talking about the latter! Maybe I am too quick to assume everyone is a clueless money grabber, but its just the state of the market - fact is it wouldn't be like this if all those who are not truly into IT for what it is had all jumped on another bandwagon (maybe pyramid selling... or buy to rent property), but thats immaterial now anyway.
    As far as only being cool if you forge ahead solo - I wouldn't expect anyone to learn anything in isolation. I am a regular forum contributor, but my pet hate is people who don't do their bit first. Maybe its just my old school work ethic, but I think there should be a substantial element of self-teaching in anything you might choose to learn. Books, Library, tutorials, google, forum archives etc etc are information resources that will answer 100% of your questions (if you know where to look!), and you will have the satisfaction of having sorted it alone. BUT if you have tried all of these, and failed then thats ok - you have done your bit!! Thats when the forums come into their own, and any question that emerges like this will be welcomed. I am not being judgemental about 'good' or 'bad' questions (there are no such things) but its just that this is kind of how the forums are meant to be used, in my opinion.
    Maybe I am just too traditional, but it does annoy me when I see the same questions asked over and over (CLASSPATH springs to mind) when the answers are not even difficult to find, as they are all here ad nauseum in the forums! Thats when I tend to get sarcastic, and it gets misconstrued as being unhelpful to newbies. It's just exasperating to see people who don't have strongly internalised values about education, learning and working.
    OP, if I have you wrong then I am truly sorry, you just exhibited 'the traits' for a second back there...

  • Cannot resolve symbol error when compiling a class that calls another class

    I've read all the other messages that include "cannot resolve symbol", but no luck. I've got a small app - 3 classes all in the same package. BlackjackDAO and Player compile OK, but BlackjackServlet throws the "cannot resolve symbol" (please see pertinent code below)...

  • Visual Studio 2012 cannot resolve symbol or Errors control is not a member of class

    Visual Studio 2012 Web Site Project (Note not a Web application, so there are not Designer.vb files) > Site works perfectly fine and using IIS and attaching to IIS to debug code.
    However, if I try to build the site inside of Visual Studio I am getting lots of Errors ‘pnlName’ is not a member of ‘Page_Name’ In the code behind I am getting errors ‘Cannot resolve symbol ‘pnlName’
    .ascx Page
    <li style="margin-right:0;" id="pnlName" runat="server"><a href="/cart" title="Checkout" class="global-checkout">Checkout</a></li>
    .ascx.vb page
    Me.pnlName.Attributes.Remove("style")
    I have cleaned, rebuild and nothing gets rid of these errors, but again the site works as designed, but I would like to launch and debug inside of Visual Studio.

    Cor,
    What I am stating is this is a solution using the Web Site Project instead of a
    Web Application Project.
    Web Site projects do not require Designer.vb files, Web Application Projects add Designer.vb files in the solution.
    Background: I have been hired to support a very successful e-commerce site that was built by a 3rd party vendor (I had no input on the contract or specification, because I would have went with
    MVC).  The site works 100% correctly, however from my 2003 - 2015 experience with Visual Studio and Web Development being in Web Forms and MVC I have always built ASP.NET Solutions using the Web Application Project Templates, which compiles the code down
    to .dlls.
    A Web Site project does not compile the code, but simply uses the .vb files and they have to be migrated to the server with the .aspx files. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd547590%28v=vs.110%29.aspx
    Currently the only way I can debug this Solution is to attach to the w3wp.exe process running locally on my work station.
    The Solution is comprised of two Web Sites, which I cannot get it to compile because of the following errors -
     'webServerControlName' is not a member of '(Protected Code Behind Class Name)'  I am reaching out to the MSDN community to see if anyone has experienced this issue with
    Web Site Projects.
    I hope that clears up the Project Type question.

  • Getting error message Cannot Resolve Symbol when trying to compile a class

    Hello All -
    I am getting an error message cannot resolve symbol while trying to compile a java class that calls another java class in the same package. The called class compiles fine, but the calling class generates
    the following error message:
    D:\Apache Tomcat 4.0\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\cal>javac
    ConnectionPool.java
    ConnectionPool.java:158: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class PooledConnection
    location: class cal.ConnectionPool
    private void addConnection(PooledConnection value) {
    ^

    location: class cal.ConnectionPool
    PooledConnection pcon = new PooledConnection(con);
    ^
    ConnectionPool.java:144: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class PooledConnection
    location: class cal.ConnectionPool
    PooledConnection pcon = new PooledConnection(con);
    The code is listed as follows for PooledConnection.java (it compiles fine)
    package cal;
    import java.sql.*;
    public class PooledConnection {
    // Real JDBC Connection
    private Connection connection = null;
    // boolean flag used to determine if connection is in use

    Is ConnectionPool in this "cal" package as well as PooledConnection? From the directory you are compiling from it appears that it is. If it is, then you are compiling it incorrectly. To compile ConnectionPool (and PooledConnection similarly), you must change the current directory to the one that contains cal and type
    javac cal/ConnectionPool.

    There is no way to be able to see MyDocumentListener class in the way you wrote. The reason is because MyDocumentListener class inside the constructor itself. MyDocumentListener class is an inner class, not suppose to be inside a constructor or a method. What you need to do is simple thing, just move it from inside the constructor and place it between two methods.

  • Cannot resolve symbol: class OracleDriver

    Attempting to compile a servlet on Apache Server using same jdeveloper jdbc libraries:
    classes12.jar & nls_charset12.jar
    Error message:
    $compilejava2.sh ProdJobs
    ProdJobs.java:361: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class OracleDriver
    location: package driver
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Am I missing something else?
    Jeffrey

    Enter this code into your program and then put the Oracle jar file that contains the driver in your run-time classpath.
    try {
      Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
      catch(ClassNotFoundException cnfe) {
      // driver not found
    }The effect of this is that the classloader will load the Oracle driver for you then call it's static initiailizer that does a bunch of magic that results in the Java runtime knowing that there's a JDBC driver out there.
    It is a little weird - but that's the way it works.
