Recipe for Live Playback via FCServer

Hi All,
I'm putting together a small HD TV studio for my school & want to know how we'll be able to access out edited stories for air from the server. We plan on using Final Cut Server to link all our workstations (20 - 30) & it'd be great if we could also play finished packages on-air.
Is it as simple as having a networked computer in the control room with SDI out to go to the switcher?
I'm in the middle of planning the whole studio & I'm to the point where my head hurts! Any thoughts & ideas welcome!

Andre,
I'd like to accomplish this without additional expense (servers, etc.). We're already looking at an Xserve & FCServer. I'm thinking a networked MacPro with SDI card to connect to the switcher should be all I need.
If you're looking to do this on the cheap, you can find software for Macs (and no doubt Windows, although I've never looked) that will do the same thing although you'd still need to get the video out of the computer using some kind of SDI capable video card.
The more I think about it the more I think it should work pretty smoothly. I'm thinking I could put the series of stories onto a FCP timeline & play each one as it comes up in the show.
Sound like a plan?

  • Thinking of Mac + Logic for Live Playback + MIDI

    I am in need of a system for playing back pre-recorded backing tracks and controlling Midi Devices (Line 6 box + Harmoniser) during playback The idea is to play my guitar and not have to operate the foot pedals but still have the patch changes at the appopriate time during playback. Is a MAC plus Logic capable of doing this? Does anybody have an opinion on how reliable this setup could be if it is possible?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
      Chris

    I've used Logic since 2002 but a new user to Mainstage 2 & as far as I'm aware you control MS2 via midi (footswitch or keys). That may change with future upgrades or maybe possible by using apple scripts.
    If you're on a Mac? a great option is Qlabs which is used in live theatre it will cost you about the same.
    I'm giving MS 2 a go for rehearsal and if it becomes too much to change settings to keep the show flowing, I'll definitely be getting Qlabs.

  • Boosting signal for TV playback via a Wii - with airport?

    To boost the quality of my kitchen TV when playing catch-up via a Wii (i.e. picture is freezing), should I buy another airport express and join it to the existing network in the rest of the house (I have two at the moment - a base station and one in my office upstairs)? If so, how can I do this?

    Do I have to reconfigure anything or do I should plug it in and it will find the existing network that was created around the house?
    The additional AXn would have to be configured just like the other when the AirPorts were set up as an extended network. Please review the following Apple Support article for more details on how this type of network is set up. Of course, if you have any additional setup questions, please feel free to post back.

  • Two USB Controllers for Live Playback (Concert)

    I have Logic Pro 9 and 10.6.6 and need to play, live, two different USB Controllers assigned to different sounds/tracks. Any way to do this? Everything I have researched has pointed to previous versions of Logic Pro.
    Thanks!

    I'm not sure if an Aggregate Device can really work as an output that sends signals to both devices. Have you checked the volume level in the Audio/Midi Utility? You also might want to look at this thread:

  • Any tutorial for Live RTMP Dynamic Streaming using Strobe Media Playback?

    Any tutorial for Live RTMP Dynamic Streaming using Strobe Media Playback anywhere available on the web ?

    Thank you for the link but it does not solve my problem. In this thread they work with manifest xml files like a playlist. Which i tryed but also doesn´t work. Adobe declairs FMP with easy config and less code for non geeks. And this is exactly what i want for my project.
    Does anybody can post some  html sample code especially for dynamic streaming/ MBR wit Flash Media Playback??? For Live or On-Demand.

  • Creating a custom player for live streaming video

    I have live streaming video set up where I use the Flash Media Encoder to send the live stream to a Flash Media Server. Then, the Flash Media server packages this stream, and sends it to whatever websites requests it via the url. I know how to create a Flash move or even asc file, and then have Flash generate the html for that saved movie so that I can embed it in a web page and play it. But in the case of live streaming video, there is no pre made asc file or movie to reference. So I need some help about what I need to do to play live streaming video in a flash player embedded in a webpage, that will also have some custom action script for controlling playback and other things.

    About a half-hour after making the changes I outlined above, and long after I closed the active Safari window, noticed that my MBP was uncharacteristically hot. Extremely hot!
    Opened Activity Monitor and saw that Flash Player was still running (?) and using a tremendous amount of system resources. I then quit Safari altogether. Within moments, the heat began to subside.
    May be something you want to keep an eye on...

  • Looking for Video playback app, like a DDR

    Hello, I'm looking for a program to cue up and playback quicktime files for live broadcast off of the computers hard drive. Kind of like a DDR but all running on the computer. It needs to have the ability to cue up files based on keystrokes, like 123 enter = playack of 123, and be pretty quick about it.
    I found Playbackpro.... at WWW.DTVideolabs.com but I'm looking for some other options.
    Thank you.

    Unfortuately I cant load the clips into quicktime since it's crashing when I load them..
    Just hoping for a light weight app that's sole function is video file inspection

  • How do I create DRM Licenses that can be used for Offline Playback?

    [ Background ]
    Typically, a license is acquired from the DRM license server when the client video player encounters a video that is DRM-protected.   However, some use cases call for the ability for end-users to be able to play DRM content when a network connection is not available to the device.
    For example - the user wants to download a video from their home, acquire a license to play the content, and then get onto a train/airplane where a network connection isn't available.  On the train/airplane/etc..., the end user expects to be able to watch their video that they downloaded at home.
    [ DRM Policy Requirements ]
    For this use case to be possible, the DRM license must be acquired when the network connection is available.  In addition, the DRM license must be allowed to persist on the device disk.  For this to be possible, one value must be present in the DRM policy:
    1. Offline License Caching must be set to 1 or higher.  This policy parameter indicates how many minutes a license is allowed to be persisted to disk once it's been acquired by the license server.
    [ Workflow ]
    Now that the content has been packaged with a DRM policy that allows for offline caching (persistance) of a license, the video player simply has to acquire the license before the network connection is lost.  This can be accomplished via the typical API calls that the Video Player Application Developer would use to do a normal DRM license acquisition (DRMManager.loadVoucher()).
    For example, by using the DRMManager ActionScript3 API: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/net/drm/DRMManage r.html
    For other platforms supported by Adobe Access DRM (iOS, Android, etc...), please refer to the appropriate documentation around playback of DRM content on how to pre-fetch the DRM license.
    [ Workflow - iOS ]
    Enabling offline playback using the Primetime Media Player SDK (PSDK) for iOS requires a bit of self-extraction & instantiation of the DRM Metadata from the m3u8.  The reason for this is that as of PSDK v1.2, the PSDK APIs do not expose an mechanism for extracting the DRM metadata.
    You must manually (outside of the PSDK) get access to the DRM Metadata, instantiate a DRMContentData, and then use the DRMManager class to obtain a license for your content.  Afterwards, you may download your HLS content and stream it to your video player application locally.  Since the DRM license was pre-acquired before playback of the downloaded HLS content, your video player application does not require a network connection to acquire a DRM license.  Below is a code sample of obtaining the DRM Metadata from the m3u8 manifest and then using it with the DRMManager singleton.
    /*          Main entry points, playlistURL is url to a top level m3u8. */
    void PlayContent(NSURL* playlistURL)
              DRMManager* drmManager = [DRMManager sharedManager];
              if ([drmManager isSupportedPlaylist:playlistURL])
      // First we need a handler for any errors that may occur
                        DRMOperationError errorHandler = ^(NSUInteger major, NSUInteger minor, NSError* nsErr)
      /*          report error. */
      /*          Synchronous call to DRM manager to extract DRM metadata out of the playlist. */
                        [_drmManager getUpdatedPlaylist:playlistURL
                                                                                      error:errorHandler
                                                                                    updated:^(NSURL *newPlaylist, DRMMetadata *newMetadata)
                                   (void) newPlaylist; /*          updated URL is not used for this code sample. */
                                   if (newMetadata)
                                                      Assumes we are going to try to satisfy requirements to acquire license on the first policy in the metadata.
                                                      If there are multiple policies in the metadata, only 1 of them need to be satisfied for the license request to
                                                      go through.
                                             DRMPolicy* drmPolicy = NULL;
                                             for (id object in newMetadata.policies) {
                                                       DRMPolicy* drmPolicy = (DRMPolicy*)object;
                                                       break;
                                             if (drmPolicy == NULL)
                                                       /*          report error, this metadata is malformed. DRM metadata must contain at least 1 policy*/
                                             if (drmPolicy.authenticationMethod != ANONYMOUS)
    However, please note that the above only describes the DRM license handling for offline playback.  The actual playback of video using the Primetime client SDK is not officially supported.  You will have to use your own mechanism of saving and playback back HLS content locally within the application.
    Theoretically, it is possible to save the HLS stream to the app, and then embed an HTTP server to the app to stream the HLS content back into the application.  However, the Primetime client SDK doesn't not expose a way to do this directly, since it's not yet supported.
    cheers,
    /Eric.

  • Does the Iphone 3G support music playback via a bluetooth headset?

    Hi All,
    Does the Iphine 3g support music playback via a bluetooth headset at all, I suspect not...

    It's been on many a user's requested feature list since the first iPhone, and people were disappointed when it didn't show up on the 3G. The adaptor he links to will get the job done.
    I have to admit I've demoed a couple of bluetooth stereo headsets, and the music sounded awful. Perhaps it's improved, but for this reason it's not a feature I've personally wished was included.

    "Mac OS X, Tiger Edition" by David Pogue (2005) briefly discusses the issue I raised on page 649ff. Under "The Software Base Station Effect," he says that a Mac with an AirPort card and an Ethernet or other connection to the internet (e.g. via DSL or cable modem) can serve as a "gateway" for other 802.11g equipped machines.
    I've ordered a D-Link DWL-G650 802.11g Wireless Cardbus Adapter to install in the Dell laptop, and will see how it goes.

    Thanks for looking at this post. We have resolved the issue for ourselves by working with our DBAs to narrow down where the problem actually started. We found that the particular SQL we were looking at was not the issue. In a chart on a subsequent page (via a click through), we were actually running into where apex was starting to consuming memory but we were catching it later.
    What we found was that when we had a chart query that was SQL containing a pipeline function, the memory usage went up. And within 10 minutes, the server would crawl to a halt. To release the memory, the DBAs would have to bounce the Apex instance. When I changed the query to be a function returning SQL, the problem stopped. I don't know what the correlation was between SQL and moving to a PL/SQL function returning SQL.
    I am not even 100% positive of the pipeline function being the cause. I only know that this started happening about the same time as when I implemented the pipeline function. I understand you are leery of a one-second function/query running up that kind of utilization. No one here believed me either (including me really). We figured it HAD to be a coincidence. But once I changed the query from SQL to a function returning PL/SQL, our problem went away.
    Thanks to all who looked at and thought about this.

  • Recipe for iPAD retina display

    Hi,
    Does anyone have a 'recipe' for processing photos for the ipad retina display.
    I'm a bit confused as to trying to print to jpeg (with what settings?) or export.
    I've tried a bit, but not been really happy with the results.
    What do you do?
    hans

    You could also have a read of Jeffrey Friedl's Lightroom-to-iPad workflow: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/ipad-howto2
    This is effectively a Publish Service which can publish via FTP directly to a client app on the iPhone, thus bypassing iTunes and the iPad Photos app completely. I converted to this a few months back. Well worth a read.
    PS I use exactly the same settings as Rikk, although I first crop all the images (VCs) to 4x3 if possible to ensure they are viewed full screen on the iPad.

  • AS3 - 1) Countdown Timer to the designated Date for Live-Broadcast-Event yet to take place; 2) Detect End of Live Stream on FLVPlayback with FLVPlayback.isLive = true - ActionScript 3 - flash cs3 cs4

    Hi folks,
    Ronny's here again on forums, having particularly 2 (two) questions/problems to resolve:
    1) Countdown Timer to the designated Date for Live-Broadcast-Event yet to take place
    2) Detect End of Live Stream on FLVPlayback with FLVPlayback.isLive = true
    attached is the .zip file (as3_Countdown Timer_ver 1.0.1_by Ronny Depp.zip) with all flash source files containing:
    a) The FLash Source (file: timer_module.fla) - (FLA flash source file - Flash CS3 Professional, Flash Player 9, actionscript 3.0)
    b) com.othenticmedia.utils.dateAndTimeManagement package including 2 .as actionscript 3.0 Class files.
           i) com.othenticmedia.utils.dateAndTimeManagement.DateAndTimeManager Class in the said package. (file: DateAndTimeManager.as)
           ii) com.othenticmedia.utils.dateAndTimeManagement.CountdownTimer Class in the package. (file: CountdownTimer.as)
    c) The compiled SWF file version of this Application's blueprint. (file: timer_module.swf).
    What i need to confirm is: ........................................................ see the next post of mine. (for Problems  need to be Resolved)

    Problems to Resolve:
    Problem#1) - Countdown Timer to the designated Date for Live-Broadcast-Event yet to take place.
    Problem#2) - Detect End of Live Stream on FLVPlayback with FLVPlayback.isLive = true;
    Problem#1 Description:
    I need to pinpoint the Logical TimeSync Exception, i am still unable to figure out. That is I'm using a webservice in my Application to Synchronize the Time with the actual ET (eastern time) with accomodation of auto-adjustment for EDT GMT-4 (eastern daylight time) & EST GMT-5 (eastern standard time), times. I am using the zipcode: "10012" to pass it to the Web Service in urlRequest object, to retrieve the Current ET eastern time according to EDT & EST time settings for Manhattan/Brooklyn areas or others within  New York, NY 10012.
    Currently the Web Service is returning accurate date/time based on local EDT GMT-4 daylight time.
    Is there some defined set of dates for EDT & EST times for New York region that I can check for to ensure the correct Dates/Times for Eastern Time in New York area ??? I am using NY zipcodes because i am sure to get correct ET values.
    The Major Problem Part: is I need to correct the time by 2 seconds or approx. 2 secs, some millisecs.
    When I retrieve the Time Value from WebService, it lags behind for 2 seconds as compared to DateObj i create using computer's local time, on my Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Automatic Updates turned-on. And I'm sure about my Windows will be having latest updates for Time Management already installed. I also added the 2 secs. to the TimeSync(ed) Date to make correction to this Date obj.
    I call my custom fucntion addSeconds(dateObj:Date, secs:int) to add 2 seconds to the Date by Converting Seconds to Milliseconds.
    Please comb through the as code in files attached and Help Me Out !!!
    Problem#2 Description:
    Secondly I need to Detect the End of Stream state while using FLVPlayback component, an rtmp:// live Stream from FLASH MEDIA SERVER.
    I need to Play a YuMe Post-Roll Ad when Steam Finishes/Ends.
    Live Broadcast Stream Event starts every night on Wednesdays & Saturdays exactly  at 10:59 PM EDT GMT-4.
    Live Events only Streams/Broadcasts the stream for 50secs. exactly. When [playback stopped] it plays a PostRoll Ad and after the CountdownTimer again comes back to life. The Next upcoming Event is calculated & the Countdown begins until Next Event's time/date is reached.
    Here is the  code on the frame 1 on the MainTimeline: (rest of the params like source, volume, skinAutoHide are Set using Property Inspector for FLVPlayback instance on Stage)
    //myStream instance of FLVPlayback is on the Stage
    myStream.isLive = true;// Frame 1 Actions in the FLA
    myStream.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, onEndOfStream);
    myStream.addEventListener(VideoEvent.STATE_CHANGE, onState);

  • Does iTunes have any hidden picture controls for video playback (e.g. contrast, brightness) ?

    Does iTunes have any hidden picture controls for video playback (e.g. contrast, brightness) ?
    I haven’t been able to find any.
    Since the .m4v file type appears to prevent any video bought or rented from the iTunes Store from being played using any other program the lack of these picture controls - if indeed they are lacking - make it seriously deficient as a video player.

    Thanks for the rapid response to my enquiry.
    I know that it’s possible to adjust the monitor’s performance via System Preferences but it is rather long-winded and I’d rather not alter the settings for the entire screen (and then have to change them all back once finished) when it’s only the video playback window that needs adjustment.
    Since iTunes provides various options using the Equalizer for adjusting sound playback it seems rather odd that they don’t have a similar panel for video.
    Regarding QuickTime.
    Apparently earlier versions (such as 7) had picture controls but the current version (10.4) does not.
    I assume Apple are phasing out QT whose development seems to have stopped - or rather gone backwards since it now lacks capabilities it once had - and intend in future to treat iTunes as their universal media player which no doubt makes sense from their point of view.
    I wasn’t aware of the .m4v file type when I made my first and probably last video purchase via iTunes yesterday and didn’t realise that it would restrict my options for playback so completely.
    The experience has really put me off buying any additional video from the iTunes Store.
    Back to DVDs.

  • Auto analysing of Music Folder for 'gapless playback'. How to stop?

    I have my music library on a portable HD which is connected to my old Quicksilver G4 via USB1.
    It seems that after a period of being open, but not playing, iTunes takes it upon itself to start analysing my Music Folder for 'gapless playback', and certainly does it after I add anything to the Library.
    This is annoying on 2 counts: I never asked for this to be done, and I couldn't care less about silence between songs! (3rd; I don't own an iPod)
    Hitting the 'x' next to progress waiting for a break in the SBBOD isn't a good sign for a new app. C'mon Apple some of us still use USB1!
    So, how to turn off auto analysis of my Music Folder?

    Great idea! However, I actually need access to a Shared folder on that Mac (with correct permissions). You'll see from my screenshot above that the same folder appears twice, once with the proper shared volume icon (with full access and correct permissions), and once with the 'folder with red bar' icon without any access (and incorrect permissions).
    I might try deleting all keychain entries relevant to that shared folder and see if that helps.
    If anyone else has any ideas, they would be gratefully received.
