Recipe for success in iWeb '08?

Lucky me - I decided to mail order my copy of iLife and didn't get it until today.
In the meantime I have been following the threads of this forum, adding my words of "wisdom" and trying to organize myself for the big day.
In the past, I kept my individual sites separated by using iWebsites. I contacted the author of this application to see if it works with the new iWeb '08. It does not but he is working on it.
I decide to copy each of my domain.sites files into new folders and stored these in a "mother folder" on my hard drive and also on two external drives.
I put all my old iLife applications in a folder so that they could not be updated and backed this up too.
When I first opened iWeb I chose to create a new domain and played with it for a while to try out some of the new features.
I saved my crazy creations and closed iWeb.
I went to the folder containing one of my previous websites that I use for trying out ideas called ConstructionSite. I double clicked the domain.sites file and my site appeared in iWeb and the files were "updated".
I really screwed around with this site in iWeb '08 trying to make it crash and/or corrupt the files. Remember all my backups!
I saved, quit and relaunched and everything was OK.
I know none of this helps all you guys who have lost your files etc and you have all my sympathy.
I am going to keep trying to screw things up and make it crash - I'm good at creating disasters for myself!

The two main things you want to do are "make safe" your domain.sites file(s) and your iWeb '06 application. The domain.sites file is where your website is stored so it has to be backed up and moved to a safe location. When you load the new version of iWeb into your Mac it will replace iWeb '06 so you need to move it out of your main applications folder so that iWeb '08 can't get at it! This move preserves your copy of iWeb '06 so that you can revert back to it if you have problems with the new version.
I'll deal with the application itself first....
Mac applications can only be updated if they are present in your applications folder so, if you hide it inside a new folder or, better still, move it to another location it cannot be replaced.
Go to Home Folder/Applications and create a new folder and name it iWeb '06. Drag the iWeb '06 application into this folder. You can leave it there for convenience but I would recommend making a copy and dragging it out onto your desktop.
Now let's focus on the domain.sites file that you worked so hard to create.
Make a new folder on your desktop and name it "My Old Website".
Go to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
Open this folder and you will see the domain.sites file.
Copy this file and paste it into your "My Old Website" folder on the desktop.
If you have more than one user on your Mac then you will have to do this for each user.
Before you do anything else, back up the two new folders you have created on the desktop. If you don't have an external hard drive you can back them up to DVD. If you don't have a DVD drive you can at least back up the folder containing your domain.sites file to a CD. The iWeb '06 application is too big to fit onto a CD.
Drag your iWeb '06 folder and your "My Old Website" into your Home Folder or somewhere else of your choice.
Now you can install the new software from the iLife disk.
Before you launch your new iWeb, create a new folder called iWeb '08 and inside this folder create one called "My New Website A".
When you launch iWeb for the first time it will ask you too give it a domain.sites file or create a new one. Choose the latter and tell iWeb to put it in "iWeb '08" folder.
Now you can play with the application.
Save this website and quit iWeb. Go to the iWeb '08 folder, open it, copy the domain.sites file and paste it into the "My New Website A" folder.
Go to your "My Old Website" folder. Open this and double click on the domain.sites file to open your old site in the new version of iWeb. You will be asked to update your old files to allow them to run in iWeb '08 This is the point where your old website files can get screwed up. This is why you have a BACKUP!
I will follow up with a post on how to structure your iWeb '08 folder so that you can have multiple websites but be able to work on and publish them one at a time.

BODS 3.1 :SMTP configuration to send email for success or failure of job

I did not find a complete set of information as things to do (for a person who is new to BODS).
Hence sharing the workflow which works for me when tested on a simple workflow :
Pre-requisite : SMTP service to be made available on the BODS server and port 25 to be opened up.
This is done by the IT dept of the company.
When smtp service is activated and port 25 is opened up, telnet IP address 25 should say, service is available.
Suggestion : create a email group like : bods at company.com which can be used to be used for the BODS JOBs. Which does not prompt for a password. This also is done by the IT dept of the company.
1) On the BODS server :
1) Click open Data Services Server Manager
2) SMTP settings for smtp_to functions :
Add the IP Address of the SMTP server
Add the email address of the sender. Eg. bodsjobs at companyname,com
3)Apply/Restart the server.
2) Login to BODS Designer :
Create a test job :
TRY ==>DF===> Script for success ===> CATCH script for failure
In the script for success : add the following :
print (' IN TRY BLOCK Before email ' );
smtp_to('bodsjobs at abc,com', ' SUCCESS OF JOB : '
|| job_name(),'Job completed successfully ', 0, 0);
print('After Email ');
In the script for Catch add the following :
print (' IN CATCH BLOCK Before email ' );
smtp_to('bodsjobs at abc,com', 'FAILURE OF JOB : '
|| job_name(),
error_number( ) || 'Error message: ' || error_message( ) ||
'check details', 50, 50);
print('After Email ');
Note : In the catch : select all exceptions on the check box.
Save all.
Click on the job and say execute.
The job will run and if it is successful. You will receive the succes mail.
If there is any error in the DF before the catch, you will receive a mail, which says failure.
The above workflow, when tested atleast works for me.

Am really not aware as to how to make things work from the console.
I work on windows environment both at client and on the server.
It looks like you got a bit confused on suggestion of a email group account.
I never did anything on outlook configuration for activation of smtp for bods.
I think you should not mess with outlook.
I dont know from the client side how things work.
But i have worked directly on the BODS server where the bods installation was done.
It is relatively very simple to do and to test.
But to even test why you get that error.
All you need is just a email id. Which could be yours ???
Put your email id as the source of email in that box in the job server.
And put only your email id in smtp_to and test it.
Run a test job. If it completes successfully. You will receive a mail.
In the catch, if you have checked all the boxes for error capture,
if the job fails, it would throw a dump of the errors in the email.
Once everything works well and you receive emails for any jobs you are running.
Then you could decide for the source of your email id and for the receipients of your emails of the jobs.
You could put a group id of your team as source. And also in smtp_to script in case you want everyone to receive the alert that the job has been done or it has errors.
Or include only those email ids in the smtp_to whom you feel, should receive the mail.
Hope this idea helps.
Please dont mess with outlook for any smtp activation for bods.
It is not required if you are working on a windows environment.
You just need a email id for testing.
Outlook configuration does not come into picture at all.
if there is any other unix environment involved. I have no idea.
And i really do not know how things would be from a client side to configure.
Server configurations i do from the server.
I did all configurations on the main server machine. Not from the client.
And I have only one job server so i did everything there.
I did not do anything from management console.
I use management console only for monitoring of jobs on a daily basis, the dashboard which gives you details of the data pulled, time taken etc etc.

Mass creation of BOM and Master Recipe for Plants

My client wants to do Mass BOM creation and Mass Master Recipe Creation from a Generic BOM and Generic Master Recipe for all 10 Plants by just a click of button.
He does not want to use copy function using CSO1 or C201, and do for plants 'one by one'. He finds it very time-consuming. He wants to copy for all ten plants all at once. Please advice how this can be accomplished in the best possible manner, and if by standard SAP.

I want to Copy some bill of material from another plant .I had used T code CS01 for it but only the header bill of material is copied .
The copy field in CS01 is only for first level boms the subsequent Boms are not copied .
so is there any other way to do it ? if possible please give the detail procedure .

Would welcome suggestions for "best" substitute for .Mac w/ iWeb

I currently use my .Mac and iDisk for publishing from iWeb, a link from my web site to all of my photo galleries, and a few files stored on iDisk. Total amount of space is less than 10 GB. The only service I have ever used for these functions is .Mac, and I am looking for the best/easiest substitute once .Mac dies. Ideally I would like something that just works like what I have. BTW, I publish photos from Aperture. When I see postings about FTP, Fetch, etc., my aging brain gets even fuzzier. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Actually, no you don't, but what you do use is MobileMe.
You will need to get learning about the concept of ftp fast, because the only other alternatives to publishing sites to a server is by using ftp - either built into the package you are using or by downloading a programme for free called Cyberduck.
Alternative hosts to look at are http://www.hostexcellence.com or http://www.godaddy.com, but there are many others to choose from and they will be cheaper and give you more for your money than MobileMe did.
As far as iWeb is concerned, it is an app and will still work, so you can continue to use it, but if you want alternatives, take a look at RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Free Pro/Express, BlueGriffon etc. You can download tests of these. You can also consider the online web creation packages such as http://www.wordpress.com and then when you have a server, consider the content management systems such as Drupal, Joomla and http://www.wordpress.org which is server based. There are other online creation packages such as http://www.weebly.com.

Can't find my iweb domain file when searching for it in iweb seo tool

I am trying to get my iweb website recognized by Google. Can't seem to get the google html code to work in html snippet. So am now trying to use the iweb seo tool but can't find my iweb domain file when searching for it in iweb seo tool. My file is in user/library/applicationsupport/iweb/name.sites2
It shows in the folder but is not active, so I can't choose it.

The SEO ftp client is not what I'd recommend using. Once you add the metadata to a local copy of the files use a 3rd party ftp client like the free Cyberduck to upload the files. Much more reliable.
Google does not use keywords for it's searches although other search engines do. Create a test page on your site (leave it out of the navbar) and try adding Google Analytics to it with Wyodor's instructions. If you get it to work then all you need to do is copy and paste the HTML snippet from the test page into your site pages.
For information on visitors to your site you can also use StatCounter. It records the number of visitors and a lot more: where they are from, what browser used, which page visited and what site/page then came from for just a few. SC is easy to add to the pages as you get the code for your account, put it in an HTML snippet add the snippet to each page. Old Toad's Tutorial #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet describes how to do it.
Again use a test page or a separate test site to work out the details before adding to your site pages.

Recipe for iPAD retina display

Hi,
Does anyone have a 'recipe' for processing photos for the ipad retina display.
I'm a bit confused as to trying to print to jpeg (with what settings?) or export.
I've tried a bit, but not been really happy with the results.

This is effectively a Publish Service which can publish via FTP directly to a client app on the iPhone, thus bypassing iTunes and the iPad Photos app completely. I converted to this a few months back. Well worth a read.
PS I use exactly the same settings as Rikk, although I first crop all the images (VCs) to 4x3 if possible to ensure they are viewed full screen on the iPad.

How to view payload for Successful instances in ESB console ?

I have a situation where I need to view the payload data for successful esb instances. Only for FAULTED/ERRORED
instances, the payload browser is available.
Can I change any parameters/settings to enable this for successful service calls?
First, Will it be persisted in database? IF Yes, i could at-least browse the particular table to locate a particular request !
Please share your experiences on this. Awaiting interesting ideas from you...

Auditing for Successful and Failed Logon.

I have a requirement wherein I want to Audit when the user Logs In and if the user unsuccessfully tries to log in. I am using the oracle's Audit functionality to audit it.
Also I am using the oracle's audit functionality only for the above two items and have implemented the Auditing of other tables using triggers. I am not using the Oracle's Audit functionality for other purposes because the fine grained auditing is not available for the standard edition of Oracle 9i.
I want to know what is the best way to merge the Audit details from the Oracle table with the Audit Details of the Audit table which I have implemented.

We have a After Logon trigger in oracle but there is no trigger which will fire if the user tries to login but fails to log in. This is the reason I am using the oracle's Audit functionality for successful and unsuccessful login.
I want to know what is the best way to merge the Audit data of oracle with my Audit Data. The Audit table which I have created is somewhat similar to the Oracle's Audit table. Oracle jobs will do it but there will be performance issue since the job should fire frequently if the user wants to see the report immediately.

Build recipe for dual I/O domains

Hello
I have 2 T4's each with 2 PCI buses. I want to build it with 2 separate I/O domains and each one feeds a path of SAN disk to the guest LDoms. I have assigned one bus to each domain but can't seem to get vdisk services to work with mpathing. What I have now is not working and would like a clear idea of how I should put one of these systems together.
I've seen lots of recipes for basic LDom guests which is fine. But nothing for a dual I/O domain setup.

Is there any way to disable right click and drag and drop for photos using iweb? I have seen tutorials about creating a text box around each image - but is there a better way?

However, there is no way you can prevent someone from making a screenshot of the image as it is displayed on the screen no matter what application you use to create the web page.
You can add a watermark to dissuade the casual "thief" but those who are serious about stealing the photo for their own use can remove the watermark with some effort.

Can you please help me figure out the recipe to convert DVCPRO HD 16x9 to MiniDV Letterboxed?
I can never get it to look right after many tests.
Also, what's the recipe for converting the same thing to a DV file that I can load into iMovie and still have the 16x9 letterboxed in the 1:33 of my miniDV?

Create a NTSC DV sequence with the same timebase as your DVCProHD sequence (probably 23.98). Nest the DVCProHD sequence. Render.
When you print the DV sequence to tape, FCP will automatically add the pulldown to 29.97 on the way out the firewire.

Why is audio specified for success invalid?

Captivate 7 on Macbook
I created a click box over an image, and imported a short mp3 file to the slide (or thought I did). On success, I chose play audio. I moved the audio to the middle of the slide right after the clickbox on timeline. When I try to preview the slide, I get:
The audio specified for 'Success Action' is invalid. Your changes cannot be saved.
I've done this many times over many days; I go read Help some more, and watch adding audio videos, then come back and continue to fail. Over and over. I'm missing something seriously basic. Can someone identify it for me? Thanks for any help.

What I really need is to hire someone (for $$, of course) to teach me how to do two or three very small interactions (I'm talking two words, click on one, audio responses for success and failure), to find out what is possible. Then I can have other people make the slides for me while I create the learning workflow. I teach kids who can't read, and have seriously game-changing ideas, but I'm not someone who will ever understand this Captivate/audio/interactive stuff. Massive #fail.
I'm very smart in my own field; and am also smart enough to know that after a month of trying to get a few crude rudiments of this with zero success and tons of humiliation, further months reading and watching the same limited number of free and purchased videos and books won't get me there either. I'm not built for it. And all the while, I'm wasting time when I could be getting this program out there.
My best success so far has been creating tons of very successful Mac Keynote presentations using effects and hyperlinks, testing them with children, and having failing kids and their parents going wild for them, succeeding after years of painful struggle, and begging for a full program. But I can't do it!
I teach very short bits in a brief, entertaining video, then provide a tiny assessment using hyperlinks, and on they go, in Keynote. But I can't figure out a way to provide it online--hence this disastrous attempt to learn Captivate.
I searched for an answer to: is mp3 exported from garageband as 16 bit PCM or 24bit or 32 bit, but didn't find an answer. I tried rephrasing several times, but still didn't find what I need to tell you.
It's all so alien to me that I don't even know how to check on your suggestion. I exported the audio as an mp3 from Garageband (which I also don't understand, and never will. Does that help any? I also tried putting it in iTunes and exporting as an mp3. Same result.
I'd give anything to find a person to help me make this happen. Is anybody out there?

Honestly, I don't think the screen issue is going to matter. The fact that the compass doesn't work right is a biggie. Just make sure it's a real issue, and it's not something else.
However, I hope there's a lesson learned on cleaning your screen. I use a dry, lint-free cloth.
