Recipient Cannot Open Attachments

I'm terribly sorry if this is a repeat but I could not find this question anywhere in Help area or in Discussions. It seems EVERY SINGLE TIME I send an e-mail with an attachment (click attach file button, choose file, click OK) the recipient calls me or e-mails me back saying they can't open the file. It doesn't matter if the file is .JPG, .PDF, .EPS, if it shows up in the body of the e-mail, it comes across as imbedded and the recipient can't download. This has happened dozens upon dozens of times. I wish the attached files would appear as icons at the top of the message like most web mail accounts. Is there something I can tell the recipient (besides by a Mac)? Or is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks!

OK. I ran a bunch of tests [much to the chagrin of my husband, the guinea pig ... perhaps he should just get a Mac! ]
Here's what I found:
1. If I send the message as "Plain text" the images will go out and be received in Outlook as the actual attachment, but with a couple of ATT.Txt files also attached which mean nothing to the Outlook user, but can be confusing.
2. I downloaded a nice little utility [from the Apple web site] called "Mail Attachments Iconizer 2.1.4" This seems to work with less stress on me [because I tend to forget to send as plain text] and this also sends along less "junk" for the Outlook user to sift through.
I hope this helps.
Best,
Debi

  • Cannot open attachments with my firefox. my wife can with IE

    with firefox I cannot open attachments in my emails. I have been forwarding these emails to my wife's email. She is using internet explorer by yahoo through AT&t and then I have no trouble opening them on her email.

    hello jrhjmh, are you a yahoo mail user and does it work when you access yahoo mail through this link?: https://mail.yahoo.com/
    reference: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/971042
    I'm not sure as to what exactly is going on, but it looks like yahoo has changed something on their side that makes certain old urls/servers dysfunctional (you may be currently using those because you've bookmarked them before or through your history) - at least quite a number of other users have reported that...
    <br>so using the generic address https://mail.yahoo.com/ as a bookmark should lead you to the current & working url.

  • Do I have a virus?  My windows PC friends cannot open attachments from my Mac.

    I'm runing OSX 10.7.4 on an iMac  and a Macbbok pro -- both late 2009 vintage.  People cannot open my attachments.  When I send an email attachment to an email from from Mail 5.2(1278) people using PCs are able to open the emails, but unable to open attachments whether .pdf, .docx, or .doc.  I have confirmed that "Always send windows friendly attachmdents" is checked.  In addition, the pdfs could not be opened on an iPad (didn't try the Word docs).  Do I have a virus?  Whether a virus or not... PLEASE help me make it stop!!!

    I don't think you have a virus.  Probably, somehow the windows recipient is not able to handle the way the attachment is sitting inside the mail message.
    Try this: take the attachement, zip it (control-click, Archive) and send the resulting zip file. Once the recipient unzips the file they, hopefully, will be able to see a usable file.

  • E-mail recipient cannot open my Word document

    Cannot send a Windows user a Microsoft Word document that is recognized as such. If I use Mail's paperclip icon to attach a Microsoft Word 97-2004 document, and have "Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" checked, the attachment shows up in my Sent mailbox (mouseover) as Mime-type:application/octet-stream, with a generic (blank) icon. Firefox (on the other end) tries to handle it as an application. If I use Mail's paperclip icon to attach a Microsoft Word 97-2004 document, and uncheck "Send Windows-Friendly Attachments", the attachment still shows up in my Sent mailbox (mouseover) as Mime-type:application/octet-stream, but with a Word icon.
    If I send an e-mail to myself and catch it through webmail (using Firefox), the attachment shows up as Untyped Binary Data. If I then download the attachment (still in webmail), it arrives on my desktop as a .doc file. After I double-click to open it and it opens in Word, and I then close it, the icon reverts to a generic icon and the next time I double-click, it opens in TextEdit.
    The recipient has opened Word documents from me before, though not since I did the latest OS X and MS Office updates.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

    What kind of e-mail account is this? POP/IMAP/Exchange?
    I can't duplicate what you are seeing. I cannot get Word documents to appear as anything other than application/msword.
    Really though, the application/msword or application/octet-stream is just a hint. If the recipient's computer understands the file based on the file name's extension, it should open, regardless of what the mouseover type says.
    After I double-click to open it and it opens in Word, and I then close it, the icon reverts to a generic icon and the next time I double-click, it opens in TextEdit.
    Are you clicking it from mail or have you dragged it to the desktop?

  • I cannot open attachments

    Hi, when I try to open an attachment most times it does not work. I do not get an error message, but a window blinks instantly (i cannot read what it says, it might be the "download" window from the shape and nothing happens, the external application does not open or leads the file (if opened already). I have to save the file first and then I can open without any problem. This issue is not specific to any file type. If I try to open a file several times at some point it might work.
    Thanks!

  • I cannot open attachments in my e-mail

    whenever I get a e-mail in my comcast web e-mail program with a attachment I cannot open the attachment

    I've been on here for hours trying to figure out where the directions are for this - there's never an answer but finally found it. Go to Tools, Options, Applications and then Help. That's where the instructions are for Firefox File Handling - it helped me alot, although I still like the way IE opens attachments better. I am getting so I really like Firefox though, especially how incredibly fast it is. :)

  • I cannot open attachments in Mail

    Suddenly, I cannot open any attachments in mail.

    I see it's been sometime since this problem was posted, but in case it's helpful...
    I found a solution to be to goto "View," then, "Message," and then choose "Best Alternative."
    This suddently allowed the attachment to be visible for me. I am not certain why this happens, may be related to Outlook 2011 formats for sending emails, but this is merely conjecture. I tested some emails (both to iCloud and Gmail) with attachments and did not have the same problem.
    Hope this helps!

  • Cannot Open Attachments in Foxfire but OK in Internet Explorer

    I cannot open any attachments in Foxifre but do not have problem at all in Internet Explorer. I have reset cookies and cache already, to no avail.

    Hello Audrey.
    You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
    If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • Cannot Open Attachments within a pdf document

    Dear Staff,
    In my windows 7 netbook I can open files attached to  PDF documents is there a reason why I cannot open these files within windows 8.1 RT with the adobe Reader Touch? is there any setting to adjust to have this function active or Adobe Reader touch do not have this function at all?
    Is the adobe reader touch staff working on this?
    I am a music teacher and those attachments are very important for me.
    Thank you in advance for your help
    Gas

    Adobe Reader Touch does not support file attachments.
    Adobe Reader Touch is a relatively new product.  Our product management team determines which features/enhancements/updates to add based on customer feedback and the usage data collected from other mobile Adobe Reader products (e.g. Reader for iOS/Android).
    While Adobe Reader for iOS/Android supports file attachments, the usage data indicates that file attachments are rarely used.  So it is not clear if or when the feature will be supported in Adobe Reader Touch.
    Since your operating system is Windows RT 8.1, you will not be able to install and run Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI).  Because Adobe Reader XI is not compatible with Windows RT.
    Microsoft Reader (the built-in PDF viewer) does not seem to support file attachments, either.
    One thing that you could try is to open the PDF document with attachments in Adobe Reader XI on Windows 7, save the attachments as separate files, and transfer the files from your Windows 7 notebook to your Windows RT 8.1 notebook/tablet using a cloud storage service (e.g. SkyDrive, Dropbox, Acrobat.com, etc.)
    It's not ideal.  But it's one way to work around the lack of the feature. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • I created documents in Word and when I email them the recipient cannot open them. Can you tell me why?

    OK, I'm new at this so here goes.
    I created some documents in Word and when I email them, the recipient canot open them. Does anyone know why? How do I fix that.

    Make sure you have removed the tick for hide extensions in the save as panel and for best compatibilirty choose the format as Word 97-2004 (.DOC) or better still Rich text format (.RTF)
    If the extension is not appended any one with a Windows PC will be unable to open the document.
    Windows is dumb and without the extension doesn't know what programme is supposed to open the file !
    That said they CAN add the extension themselves if they know what application created the document in the first place.
    Also in the mail app click on the Edit menu at the top of the screen scroll down to attachments and in the pop out menu make sure Always send windows friendly attachments is ticked.

  • Vendor cannot open attachments

    Hi all!
    We are using bidding engine (SRM Server 5.5). Vendor logs into our system using SAP WEB dispatcher. Login works fine, but when opening of the attachments in the bid invitation doesn't. System opens a new browser window for the attachment, but it cannot open it.
    The attachment browser window has direct URL into the system, not through WEB dispatcher and therefore can't open it. I imagine that's the cause for this. How can I change the URL in opening the attachments to use URL through dispatcher?
    Thx, in advance

    Hi
    <b>The URL in the email is generated based on EXT_ITS attributes in the PPOMA_BBP. You can also change the URL by BADI BBP_CHANGE_URL</b>.
    <u>Are you using integrated ITS (then the WAS) or a standalone ITS ?</u>
    Have a look at BADI BBP_CHANGE_URL that can be used to change generated URLs for docserver SICF service.
    I used it to translate attachment URL, available for Suppliers via my customer's portal.
    In SRM 4.0, you should find an implementation:
    this is a implementatopmj that deals with the behaviour
    of an application server, where in ICM HTTP is configured
    but HTTPS not. In that case attachments are not displayed
    if you logon to seperate ITS with HTTPS.
    Go to Transaction - SE18 , give the BADI name as BBP_CHANGE_URL there and then on tha application toolbar Select Enahancement Implemenetation -> Create. Then follow the steps told by Marcin, Give any name of the Implemntation starting with either Y or Z character name (say, ZBBP_CHANGE_URL) and so on... Here is another sample code of this BADI Implementation using SE19 Transaction.
    METHOD if_ex_bbp_change_url~change_url .
    DATA:
    lv_prottype TYPE syindex VALUE 1,
    lv_prot TYPE plg_name,
    lv_host TYPE plg_host,
    lv_port TYPE plg_srv.

    * of an application server, where in ICM HTTP is configured
    * but HTTPS not. In that case attachments are not displayed
    * if you logon to seperate ITS with HTTPS.
    IF iv_url IS INITIAL.
    CALL FUNCTION 'TH_GET_PLUGIN_INFO'
    EXPORTING
    protocol = lv_prottype
    IMPORTING
    name = lv_prot
    host = lv_host
    service = lv_port
    EXCEPTIONS
    no_plugin_active = 1

    OTHERS = 3.

    bbpoa_http_colon
    bbpoa_http_slash
    bbpoa_http_slash

    INTO ev_url.
    * add /srm/docserver
    CONCATENATE ev_url
    bbpoa_http_slash
    bbpoa_http_path_sap
    bbpoa_http_slash
    bbpoa_http_path_ebp
    bbpoa_http_slash
    bbpoa_http_path_docserver
    bbpoa_http_slash
    sy-mandt
    INTO ev_url.
    ENDIF.
    ENDIF.
    ENDMETHOD.
    <u>Maybe better way is to use BADI BBP_CHANGE_URL ?</u>
    In method Change_url try write something like this:
    if iv_url cs '/docserver/'.
      replace 'serverprod:50' in ev_url with 'serverprod.df'.
    endif.
