Recognised as a camera?

im having some problems with my iTunes; when i plug in my ipod touch my computer recognises it as a camera, i cant get onto it via itunes or sync. it works fine but my computer(windows xp) just wont recognise it. ive reinstalled itunes, restarted everything and more but simply nothing works.
if any one can help (i suspect i just need to install the correct ipod driver, but dont know how) it would be much appreciated!

I found this solution and it worked for me,
Windows is choosing one of its default drivers rather than the Ipod driver. The instructions on Apple Support don't hep because Windows resists pointing to the correct driver since it hasn't been "Windows Logo tested."
Here are the steps I took to change to the correct driver in Windows XP. FYI, I had to go through these steps again after I installed the updated software.
1. On the Start menu, click Run.
2. In the Open field, type devmgmt.msc and click OK. A list of devices will be displayed.
3. Apple Ipod will be listed under Imaging Devices. Clcik on it.
4. Right click “Update Driver”
5. The Hardware Update wizard will pop-up; select “No, not this time”
6. Select “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)”
7. Select “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install”
8. A long list of devices will appear. Select “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”
9. Select “Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.” Windows will give you a warning that the driver is not digitally signed (since it is from Apple and not Microsoft), but that is okay.
10. Another warning box will pop up that the driver has not passed windows Logo testing. Select “Continue anyway”.
11. File Needed window pops up to find the driver file “Usbaapl.sys” Browse to find the location of this file. Mine was at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
12. Click Finish.
Hope this helps!

  • My ipad is recognised as a camera when connected to my computer running on Windows XP. When my ipad has photos on it and I connect it to my computer it is initially recognised as a camera before my computer crashes.

When my ipad has photos on it and I connect it to my computer it is initially recognised as a camera before my computer crashes. Resulting in me having to reboot the system again and going through the disc checks to resolve errors. This has happened on several occasions. On previous occasions when I have not had any photos on my ipad it has connected to my computer without any problem. Is there a way of solving this problem without having to remove all of my photos from my ipad.

Being recognized as a camera is normal. Your computer sees the DCIM folder and doesn't know the difference between a 'real' camera and an iPad.
One way to stop it could be to tell windows explorer what to do. When you plug your iPad in do you see a little pop up window listing things to do with the device? If so, there should be an option to 'do nothing', which means you tell your computer 'hey, ignore this device'. Your iTUnes will still work when you connect them, the windows protocols that search for images, etc. should just let it be and hopefully stop the crashing.

Has anyone else had their ipod touch recognised as a camera when connected with a USB cable but impossible to connect in itunes? What was the solution?

  • IPhone isn't recognised as a camera device, but DOES appear in iTunes

Evening, I have an issue with getting photos/videos off from my iPhone 4.
Everything syncs perfectly fine in iTunes, contacts, music, apps ect. "Kayo's iPhone" pops up and away it goes.
However, it not appearing in *My Computer as a camera device* for me to remove photos from. The Apple Mobile Device USB Driver (found in device manager) is installed correctly and working fine. I've been able to tether, no issues there.
But under 'Computer Management > Device Manager > Other Devices > iPhone' it displays the little yellow triangle warning icon thingy, to advise that drivers are not installed correctly or the device is not operating properly.
Have tried right click > 'update driver software' with no luck. In properties the device status error is:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
I have read a few other forums that say you need to remove all other foreign photos that my not be recognised by the laptop and may cause this issue. I have removed all emailed/mms'd/saved/wallpapers/screenshots/edited in Photoshop for iPhone app and ect. The only photos/vids remaining were taken with this handset. Rebooted laptop and iPhone, no changes... I even deleted old photos that had transfered over from the iPhone 3GS from when I upgraded about a month ago.
I have the latest iOS, I have the latest iTunes, I have the latest windows updates. Where am I going wrong? How do I get the silly thing to recognise as a camera???? Where do I find the drivers? Have searched but not found anything helpful. Am I stuck because I have Win7?? How do the iPhone drivers initially get installed to the computer?
Has anyone else had this issue? I've been able to use Dropbox to get a few photos off, but they can only be selected one at a time. Would much prefer to just drag and drop - especially some big videos that I can't email (and dropbox crashes when I try to sync them)
Have tried to 'Add new Device' - nothing shows up in the list.
Have also checked Autoplay for devices - nothing shows up in the list.
    Any help/advice would be appreciated!
    Cheers, Kayo

  • IChat 5.0.1 will not recognise my ISight camera

Can anyone help? For some reason IChat will not recognise my ISight camera. Photo Booth and IMovie recognise the camera fine and it appears in the System Profiler under USB. Any suggestions

    Hi,
I see I asked a silly question that you had already posted info about.
    Sorry about that.
If a PRAM rest has not done it and it works elsewhere (other apps) does it work in other Mac User Accounts ?
If iChat works in another Mac User Account then deleting a .plist or two for iChat should sort it.
If it does not work and you have not got the Disk handy the next option would be to Run the COMBO Installer of the Last Update to the OS that you did.

Keep this download as you will need it if you have to do the Reinstall.

  • Iphone and touch being recognised as a camera

After spending most of last week sorting out my itunes ready for my sons new touch, I plug it in this morning to receive this message ' apple mobile device not started'
I follow the instructions left by some kind person on here and double check the settings in the control panel, and make sure that they are at automatic.  They are but I reinput just in case.
Now both the touch and my iphone are being recognised as cameras when I connect to itunes.  I also have an ipod 5 classic which has all my music on but am reluctant to try this as last time I did it cleared all my music!
Any ideas people, its my sons birthday on Saturday and I was hoping to have the touch fully loaded for him.
    Many thanks in advance

    Yeah I did that.
    nada effect
Did I mention that for some reason the phone wouldn't initially send MMS, and then it did.
    Now it won't again...?

  • TS1538 Hi hoping for some help please/ My laptop was in for repair & now doesnt regognise ipad or iphone, it is now being recognised as a camera. Laptop will not allow me to update/reinstall I Tunes. Cannot get driver reinstalled

HI hoping for help pls, laptop was recently repaired& cloned, now will not recognise iphone or ipad, only sees iphone as a camera. Have spent ages trying to reinstall itunes to get so far and for it to fail. TRying desperately to reinstall driver for iphone now , have gotten as far as last steps to find folder in cdrive, found mobile file and there is no driver file at all. Am not the brightest tech lady so any easy to understand tips please am lost and cannot sync either pad or phone.

you have a ps cs4 license for mac and you have some way of finding your serial number.
if yes, download an install the installation file.  if you already have the installation file, what is its name and file extension?  (eg, if it's one file, it should be a dmg file.)
if you need the installation file,

  • My ipod touch is recognised as a camera when plugged into itunes.  How can I get itunes to recognise my ipod and my ipad please.

My computer in itunes is not recognising my ipod touch or my ipad.  It comes up as ing it as a camera.  Can anyone help in very simple language please.

There is no simple solution since there are various causes.

  • PE7 won't recognise my DVD camera to capture clips

I have captured my DVD clips in the past via Premier Elements 7 (PE7) without any problem.  However, right now, when I want to capture my clips and I go into Organize, Get Media, and click on DVD (Camcorder or PC DVD Drive) under the Source, my DVD Camera is not listed.  It does not seem to recognise that my DVD Camcorder is connected.  Yet, when I connect my DVD to the computer  Windows ‘DVD Digital Device’ panel comes up and asks me if I want to capture videos using Windows Movie Maker, Nero Vision Essential or ‘Edit Record Video using Adobe Premier Elopements’.
I have captured some clips using Windows Media Maker (WMM), so the computer seems to recognise the device and the camcorder is functioning.  It would seem however, that WMM does not record the split clips in the folder but records it as one clip, although when you go into WMM you can edit clip by clip.  But I want to use PE7 for editing and because of the size of my files, it is essential that the clips be split as they were recorded.
I have reinstalled the original PE7 Disk to ‘repair’ the program without any success.  Has anyone got any suggestion as to what I might do next to capture my clips via PE7?
    Tom

Sorry about the confusion I caused but your answers clarified my mistake. I incorrectly used DVD instead of DV settings.  Of course with DV Setting it is working!!
Thanks you all for your responses.
    Kind regards
    Tom

  • Camera Raw 8.2 in PS CS6 doesn't recognise new lens & camera profiles

I recently upgraded from PS CS5 to PS CS6 and have run the latest software updates for OSX 10.7.5 (ie PS CS6 13.05 and ACR 8.2.0.94).  My old Canon 7D profiles are still available but, strangely, the camera and lens profiles I expected to see for the Canon 6D and Ricoh GR (among other late models) aren't shown in Camera Raw or PS Lens Correction Filters.  Is this a known issue and/or is there a fix?
BTW - I can see some profiles were downloaded to HD:Library/Application Support/Adobe etc - were they meant to have gone someplace else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Application Support location is for Camera-Raw-Installed profiles.
The Users location is for user-downloaded or user-created lens profiles.  You can download community-supplied profiles with the lens-profile-downloader available at Adobe.com.
In the past, user-downloaded and user-created profiles could all be mixed into the Application Support folder and be found, but some time back, Adobe started recognizing only their installed profiles in the Application Support area and required downloaded profiles to be in the Users area.  This may be what has happened in your case.
When you asked your question, you used the term Downloaded, so I think Eric Chan thought you meant non-Adobe-installed profiles and gave the folder for user-installed profiles.
If you currently have user-installed profiles mixed in with your Adobe-installed profiles in the Application Support folder—they may have an older date/timestamp, then just move them from where you found them to the Users folder location Eric mentioned.
Another wrinkle is that raw and non-raw profiles are distinct, as well, so when you’re expecting to see lenses supported, make sure you’re looking at a raw file from the camera in question, not a JPG.  Adobe rarely supplies JPG-lens profiles.
