Recognition Problems

When I plug my ipod into my computer (Dell XPS / Windows XP) itunes and windows do not recognize my ipod, but the ipod will still charge when it is plugged into the computer. I know the USB is not the problem because my sister uses it with her ipod and it works fine. Do you have any solutions? I've already tried resetting my ipod and putting it into disk mode. It is fully charged and I can listen to my music. I just can't add new songs because it will not come up on itunes.

I think that is the same thing I'm experiencing. My Husband's nano worked just fine & updated just fine. Now I try my Nano (which was previously on a different computer) & it say's it's plugged in & updating, but once it states update complete, I eject my nano & check...it wasn't ever updated.
NOW...after having this problem I plug my husbands Nano back in (that had been working fine) it pops up showing my name, as if it's my Nano.
ANY helpful hints arew much apprecited! Thanks, Bridge

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB recognition problems...Big t

Hi, 2 days ago i ran into a problem with my Zen. I had to charge it, as the battery was low and had to put some new music on it.. I plugged it into the USB port on my Laptop, where all of it's software is installed. The Zen wasn't recognized. Instead of the charging screen it normally started up with, it started up with the play screen(the screen it shows when a song is playing). I looked at the battery icon in the top right corner, and it wasn't doing anything. I turned the Zen off and started it up again. Nothing changed. I restarted my computer. Nothing changed. I shut down my computer and started it back up again. Nothing changed.
I took it to my desktop computer, a Compaq, and tried it there. It worked, but not how i was expecting it to work. The battery icon started flashing with the little lightning bolt, acknowledging that it was charging. But the play screen was still there. The odd thing with this is, i left the player to charge for several hours. When i came back, the Zen was in some form of idle shut-down. The screen was black, except for the battery icon with the lightning bolt. Oddly enough, he battery bar hadn't filled up anymore than when i left it. Upon unplugging the player though, the Zen turned off. When i turned it back on, the bar had filled up more. It wasn't fully charged though.
I plugged the cable back into it, and this time, the battery icon WASN'T charging. It just had the play screen on. It wasn't doing ANYTHING this time. Frustrated, i went out and bought the wall charger, and now i have a full battery. But it doesn't solve why my computer won't recognize my player.
Today, i un-installed the software that came with the player and re-installed it. It didn't do anything. I installed the software on my desktop computer, and THAT didn't work either. So i came to the website here and used the trouble-shoot guide. That didn't help, and this is where my problem differs from the other posters here who have recognition problems:
Back to my laptop: I have Windows Service Pack 2. I installed Windows Media Player . I went to the Device Manger, like the trouble-shoot guide said to. The kicker: Windows Portable Devices is NOT, i repeat NOT in my Device Manager. Neither does the Creative player either. I clicked on "The player does not appear in Device manager". That link showed me a diagram of a desktop computer, so went back to my desktop computer. I did everything above mentioned, and Windows Portable Devices is not in the device manager of my desktop computer either. Further reading the trouble-shoot guide, i could NOT locate "Other Devices" or "Unknown Devices" in my Device Manger on either desktop or laptop. There's nothing "Creative" related or "Zen" related at all in any of the Device programs.
I don't know what to do. All of the trouble-shoot guides don't discuss my issue at all. Everything is "If an MP3 player is reported working properly in Device Manager, but it is not detected or listed in Windows Media Player or Creative Media Explorer..."
Mine isn't even detected in Device Manager. My Device Manager has nothing regarding my Zen or Windows Portable Devices.
I'm thinking about messing with it in Recovery mode, but i don't want to erase everything i have on here, just to have my player still not work. I'm going to try messing with this at my friend's house to check the cable and the player there too.
But any help regarding my situation would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me crazy.

I tried my uncle's Zen Vision: M 30GB on my laptop and strange things happened. My laptop recognized the player as an unknown device and said i needed to install the MTP driver. I did that, and upon doing so, my laptop recognized my Uncle's player as a Portable device, allowing me to transfer songs to his player. But it STILL doesn't recognize MY player. Email support says i have to send it in for repairs, but i don't know...
    Any luck with you?

  • Debian Linux character recognition problem

Maybe this shouldn't be on this forum, but perhaps someone can help me...
I have Jrun 3.1, java 2 1.4 and Debian Linux.
On our test server everything was hunky dory, running perfectly.
But once everything was on the real server, we've had a character recognition problem. All of the higher characters are just replaced by a y or a ?.
I'm pretty sure that we can exclude java from the problem, the i18n.jar, which I believe holds all the international stuff is there and in the classpath (exactly as on the test server) and jrun is exactly as on the test server because we copied every folder as it was.
Therefore I think we can bring it down to Linux (Debian).
I cannot find where to look in Debian for any kind of keyboard or locale problem. Anyone know what to do?
kbdconfig command doesn't exist on our system.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
We are in Italy, by the way.
    Thanks.

If you check out the default file encoding you'll find that it's 7-bit ASCII; no characters > '\u007F' come out as they should. This applies as well to compiling as to running.
You can compile with another character encoding using the command line options, like: "javac -encoding ISO-8859-1 package/YourClass.java" (available at least in 1.4) and "java -Dfile.encoding=iso-8859-1 package.YourClass".

  • Touch ID recognition problems

I've been using Touch ID for over a week. I'm trying to figure out why it isn't working.
The problem is that after I "enroll" my fingers (thumbs and index fingers), it works for maybe 5 or 10 minutes. After that, the sensor becomes extremely flaky and starts to fail to recognize any of the enrolled fingers.
According to my best estimates, the phone only unlocks about 5% of the time. The rest of the time, it just says "try again" and forces me to eventually enter a passcode. I wipe off the sensor, dry my fingers, wash my hands to remove oils, etc. to no avail. A few times, it worked consistently (1 or 2 touches to unlock) for about an hour at a time before it became inaccurate again.
I've tried removing and re-enrolling my fingers, but the same thing happens. I've heard a lot of stories about people using it and finding that it works relatively well, so I'm stumped on why it isn't working for my fingers. I called Apple and they didn't know enough to figure out why the sensor isn't working properly. My best guess had to do with temperature variations, but recent testing has ruled that out (I enrolled after washing and drying my hands, waited a half an hour, washed and dried my hands again, and it failed to unlock, all while being in a temperature-controlled room).
If anyone else has had this poor performance and been able to determine the cause, I'd like to know. Please don't just post that "it works for you" unless you have some useful information.
    Thanks.

I also had the touch ID recognition problem come up after the last update.  I did find that scrubbing the screen with the same finger used to access your phone may help motivate the sensor and actually works more often for me then not.  Try scrubbing the screen before placing the recognized finger on the sensor.  See if that works for you...

  • 5th Gen Recognition Problems

I'm one in a list of many on these pages who appear to be having the same problem. I have tried all the fixes suggested vy Apple without success and I'm about to return the useless piece of crap to Apple in the hope that a new one will be more useful than the £300 doorstop I have at present.
For anyone that has sent their iPod back to Apple and had a replacement sent, has this solved the problem? If not, has anyone been successful in having their money refunded?
I'm concerned that returning the iPod will serve only to replace one with 8000 songs on it which is no longer recognised by my PC, with one with no songs on it which is not recognised by my PC. I've already spent 30 hours or so trying every conceivable fix with the gadget, and I'm concerned that there appears to be a very real - but unidentifiable - flaw with the product which seems to sporadically appear and make it impossible to update.
Anyone had any good news when dealing with Apple on this front?

Well, I now am back to 9000 songs and a couple of movies! How did I manage this given the recognition problems I've been having with iPod and Windows?
Easy. Explained the problems to those nice people at PC World in Edinburgh and they gave me a Creative Zen Vision M as a replacement plus the £60 so of difference in price.
So, back up to speed with my portable music and movies, and an FM Radio on it too. I seriously thought I had thrown my money down the toilet with the iPod and I'm delighted that PC World showed the sort of customer service they are not generally renowned for.
Interestingly, they were saying that they have had a lot of problems with the iPod - particularly in recent weeks. I hope Creative don't go the same way!

  • MTP and recognition problems with Zen Mi

Ok here I go, I have a 5 gig Zen micro.and here are my issues. I updated my players firmware a few months ago because it was running oddly. This worked beautifully and fixed the running oddly part. This was great until I got a new computer. I went to plug my player in and realized I did not have the proper software/drivers so i go to creative's site and download the ones I need. I finish all instillation stuff. I have media player . And when i plug the player in suddenly i get infinite recognition messages for an MTP device from windows. It keeps popping up until i disconnect the player at which time it says device installed but may not perform correctly. Ok so I realize something is wrong and I go forum trolling. I find people that say you need to downgrade media player from try that is still no go. I try to install different drivers. I try to install different software none of these fix the issue. On other computers i can get it to recongnize the player as a MTP device and load up. But as one of the fixes I went to the recovery mode and did a firmware reload. This went fine and the player still comes up and I can get it recognized but when I try to use the firmware installer (this is on other computers mine still does not fully recognize my Zen Mirco) It says device not found yet i can see it in my computer and it shows up as connected media device. I would first like to get the firmware reinstalled on my player. I can still goto the recovery mode screen. Then I would like help trouble shooting my MTP recognition problem.

Ok well my I can load my player up with music with the old firmware. But for some reason I cannot use WMP because as soon as I update my current one I get the same error as before. So this is still an issue as I would like to be able to use WMP and I would also like to be able to use the new firmware but I think that will mess things up again also.

  • Western Digitial external USB drive recognition problem

    Hi
I recently bought a Western Digital USB 250gb external drive. I connected it to my G4 Powerbook running OSX10.2.8 and it had no problem recognising it. I then dumped across a load of data successfully.
A few days later I upgraded to Tiger and now the G4 won't recognise the external drive at all. I have scoured the forums for an answer but have found nothing to fix a drive problem where the drive just doesn't appear at all in disk utility (or on the desktop)!
I didn't partition the drive when it was first recognised in 10.2.8 (which i now realise was a mistake). The data on the external drive is unimportant to me - I just want to be able to use the drive - maybe there's a way or reformatting and starting again? (The Western Digital site doesn't provide any drivers for Tiger - cos it's just meant to recognise it automatically..)
    Any information appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Mark

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you have any other USB devices connected to your Powerbook?
Is this a recognition problem right after the computer boots up? Or had the computer fallen to sleep prior to your connecting it? Sometimes I've seen USB ports fall into a low power mode causing problems recognizing USB devices until the machine is next rebooted.
If you have critical data on that drive, you may want to try Prosoft Data Rescue to see if it can see what is on that drive. You can also buy an external Firewire enclosure and try to move the drive to that, or find someone with a PowerMac G4 or G3 tower to see if it can be taken out of the case and put in the tower for recognition. If you do the latter, be sure that the jumper is set for the master/slave setting that matches the cable you are connecting in the drive.

  • Face Recognition Problem in PSE 12

I am having a problem with face recognition with PSE 12/Windows 8.1. It is a new install, at first all went well. I could enter names and they were immediately accepted. As faces repeated recognition was working and I could click the green arrow and it would accept or even click the red x and make another selection as it should be. Then I started having problems when it would come up with the correct face I would click the green arrow and instead of accepting the box would go to "Who is This" and it would take numerous attempts to get the program to accept the name. Next I started having problems just entering names, again instead of accepting it would loop me through the "Who is This" numerous times. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem that you have been facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
    1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
    2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
    Plug-in installation instructions:
    1. Close Photoshop Elements
    2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
    3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
    • For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
    • For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPhoto 8.1.1 Fixes Facial Recognition Problems

That's what I have observed from my testing on a library of over 15,000 pictures.
It is important to "Detect Missing Faces" as explained in the appended support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3941
Your computer will work long and hard at this task ... best to leave it alone while you are having Thanksgiving dinner! When done, quit iPhoto and expect it to save a very large file describing all the faces it recognized. In particular, the 'faces' files in the library will be much larger, presumably because they now contain much more information.
The recommended procedure to identify a few faces manually and then let iPhoto find the rest automatically is unchanged, but what a difference in performance! Expect iPhoto to immediately select many pictures that "look like" the faces you found manually. Also, expect to have to confirm or reject many of the selections ... it seems that iPhoto thinks "everyone looks like everyone else" at first, but it gets better as you improve its training. Also, expect the facial recognition process to occur while you are training by accepting or rejecting selections ... don't be surprised if certain selections are suddenly 'withdrawn' from consideration as you accept or reject others.
You should also expect to see the "Is This ...?" pop-up much more frequently. I observed that as soon as I named one picture of a person in multiple photographs they were immediately identified in successive photographs, especially if the photographs were taken at the same event. Of course, the real test will be if iPhoto's facial recognition can recognize a person as they change over time, especially when they are children.
There are still a few problems. If you have a large number of photographs of the same person, iPhoto will select them all ... and more. There needs to be an easier way to confirm or reject the selections rather than laboriously clicking on each. Expect family members to be erroneously suggested as matches, especially children with their parents and grandparents ... what else would you expect? Glasses are still a problem, especially sun glasses, but it is surprising how well iPhoto can "see through" such an obvious problem. Finally, a full face, even in profile is necessary for reliable identification ... putting a hand over the mouth or wearing a hat over the eyes defeats the identification process.
    iPhoton

Thank you, Henk ... that's also how it works for me. It seems that the 8.1.1 update shifted more of the work load to the initial search for faces, i.e., "Detect Missing Faces". However, it still takes a little time to match each face, particularly if there are many faces. The big difference is that a little time is a lot better than an seemingly-infinite amount of time, which was how it used to work ... at least it seemed that way.
The library on which I have done most of my testing is mostly "people pictures" ... school classes, family gatherings, birthday parties and sporting events. One of the sporting events is a professional baseball game photographed from behind the first base dugout at the level of the playing field. Pictures of the batters at home plate show hundreds of eager fans behind the third base dugout intently watching from the other side of the field. As the pictures were taken with a telephoto lens, all those faces are not only in the field of view, but also clearly in focus ... iPhoto finds them all! Not that I know them, much less are interested in naming them, but those hundreds of faces take time to be found and there are many pictures like that.
Thanks also for the tip to use the Alt/Option key. I can use that for exactly this situation ... ignoring the faces of people I am not interested in recognizing, much less naming.

  • Macbook Pro Bluetooth Recognition Problem On Wake

I have a new Macbook Pro (about 2 weeks old). At home I use an Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard and a Logitech Bluetooth mouse (both of which are >directly< next to the computer). Every day I take my MBP to work with me where I do not have exteral keyboard or mouse. Everyday when I get home again I open up the MacBook Pro (I only put it to sleep, I don't shut down my machine) and it fails to recognize either the keyboard or the mouse. I never had this problem with my Powerbook. And everything worked perfectly on my MacBook Pro for the first week. I have not changed how I'm doing anything on the MBP, but after a week or so, it stopped reconizing the Bluetooth devices when I open it to wake it. I have to reboot the machines, sometimes twice, to get it to recognize the devices again. If I try to re-pair the mouse, it will see the mouse, but the pairing will then fail.
No, it's not low batteries, I have replaced the batteries in both the keyboard and mouse with brand new batteries >twice< in the past three days. This >never< happened before. Now it happens every time. Any suggestions?

I had a similar difficulty although I could gain recognition by turning bluetooth off and on. In the end, I unchecked 'discoverable'. Everything now works as it did in the past with my powerbook. Good luck.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-1200. USB 'Recognition Problems'

    Hello,
Not sure if anyone has had similar or same 'problems'?
With the Laptop directly in front and booted up, when I plug in devices in either USB sockets on the RH Side I have no problems with recognition at first attempt of attaching a device via its USB plug/cable.
When however plugging in to the USB sockets on the LH Side it is a completely different matter, and nine times out of ten, the device is NOT recognised!
When I subsequently remove the USB plug and re-insert it 'Bingo' the device on the end of the plug/cable sometimes gets recognised.
While I am not sure if the 'problem' is Hardware or Software related I would be grateful if anyone has had this problem and identified a solution which they are willing to share please?
The 'problem' has been on/in this machine since purchasing it new from the online HP Store.

  • Facial recognition problem

I just got Lightroom 6 and was sreening my previous catalog (LR3) to do facial recognition. I focus on few people (~10) to start with and I was pretty happy to get few hundred pictures recognize. and then suddently I got three facial identifaction tags mixed up in a single one without any warning? I thought that I did a misstake but now I got sometime an error message when trying to identify manual a face in a picture (see below). So I am worring that my catalog corrupted.
I have a catalog of around 60000 pictures that I have been working on since 3 years without any problem.
Any of you had a similar problem, could it be a bug in the apps?
    Thank for your help.

Ah, I may have spotted the point where you got (very) confused:
    testButton.addActionListener( new ActionListener ()  {
       public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
          System.out.println("Test button action works!");
          String acsiiString = ("33, 48, 48, 66, 67, 78, 49, 13");
});There are three things wrong with the following line of code:
    String acsiiString = ("33, 48, 48, 66, 67, 78, 49, 13");Firstly you have spelt the name wrong. A*CS*II instead of A*SC*II.
Secondly (very minor) you have wrapped the string in brackets for no apparent reason.
Thirdly (very major) the String declared here will go out of scope as soon as execution of the method actionPerformed completes. Since it's the last line of that method that means that it is no longer reachable from any code (even assuming you had spelt the name correctly elsewhere).
Is it possible that you're not really familiar with inner classes? I suspect so - [https://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/javaOO/innerclasses.html|https://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/javaOO/innerclasses.html]

  • N82 Voice Recognition problem

    Hi there,
I own the phone for almost one year now and I'm very satisfied with it. I just have this problem from the beginning, although I started noticing it more intensely just lately: voice recognition does not work in contacts. It works when I say "bluetooth" for example but whenever I name a contact it says "no matching" - tried to translate from greek. I have ~400 contacts in my phone and none of them has the "pacman" icon on the side when i open them in the catalog. I tried to format the device twice, entered the contacts from outlook and from pc suite, now trying from the backup in my microsd card, but nothing worked... I'm totally frustrated... Anyone can help? Is it the phone's fault or mine? What can I do? The phone has the latest firmware installed and used for private and business matters.

    G'day,
I believe I may know your problem. You've read the manual and it says to add voice commands. You only need to do this though if the commands aren't active. If they already have that little face beside them then you're already set (so just skip this step).
You simply have to go through the voice training (Go to settings, then phone, then voice recognition and voice recog. training) and once you're done (or if you've done it already) then just go back to standby mode (that's simply the main screen; where you go when you exit the menu). Then simply hold down the top right button for about a second and that should take you to a screen saying 'Speak Now'.
At that point you just have to say a command (such as 'General' to activate the general profile) and it should recognise it. For a full list of commands just go to Menu, Settings, Phone, Voice Recognition and Voice commands.

  • Qosmio G55-q802 - facial recognition problem

Ever since I received my laptop the facial recognition program will not work. It comes up with an error and says camera device failed to initialize. Either the device is in use by another application, or it is not recognized by the system. The Toshiba camera utility works. Ive even tried installing the latest drivers off the web. I saw one post on a yahoo site that stated turn off cec_main in task manager but that program is not even running.
I tried calling tech support which was totally useless. They told me to call back and ask for tier II. Anyone else experiencing this same frustration? Other than this issue this laptop is flawless!!!!!
G55-q802 with Vista 64 bit installed

    Hi my friend.
Listen, I choose Windows Vista 32 Bit. I do not know if it is considerable in this error.
But I had the same problem.
    I now have solved. How?
First, I uninstalled the software Toshiba Face Recognition.
Then, I downloaded the software from the Toshiba Web Page and reinstalled.
    Then it functions great.
Please, try it and notify if it was successfully.
    Regards,
    Daniel
