Recognize Network, but Cannot Connect

We recently changed the network name at my house. My ibook g4 still recognizes the network, but when I click on it to connect, it will not connect. It gives me a message box saying I can try again, but that does not seem to work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you using the right encryption for the network?
Try repairing permissions and it'd be a good idea to update your OS to 10.4.11.
(You can ethernet in to do that.)
Also reboot everything, router, modem and computers and see if that works.

  • Your Apple TV is connected to your wi fi network but cannot connect to the internet.  Airplay logo not available on ipad3, iPod touch3g and showing intermittently in iTunes on windows laptop.  Switched ISP a few days ago.  Entered pass key info on all.

I switched ISP a few days ago and had problems with airplay since.  After restarting and reinstalling and updating, re entering pass keys for new wi fi on everything,  Apple TV shows:  Your Apple TV is connected to your wi fi network but cannot connect to the Internet.  Ipad3 and iPod touch 3G have no airplay icon or get one briefly then it disappears again.  Same with itunes on windows laptop.
    Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Apple TV connects to the network but cannot connect to the internet.

Apple TV connects to the network but cannot connect to the internet. Works on other Apple TV's we have just not this new one. Defective???  Thank you!

    This might help:
Apple TV (2nd gen.) saw my wireless network but did not accept my password (gave a network error message). It fixed instantly doing this:
Made a note of the Apple TV's MAC address. Get it by pressing Menu on the remote, then Settings > General > About. It's called "WiFi address."
Use your browser on a network connected computer to go to your router settings (usually 192.168.1.1).
Under "Wireless > Wireless MAC Filter" (or something similar) do these steps:
    Enable Wireless MAC filter
Enable "Permit PCs listed below to access the wireless network"
Enter the Apple TV's MAC address
    Click "Save Setting"
When I did this the network connection immediately started working.

  • IPhone can join WRT54GS network, but cannot connect to internet

I've got a WRT54GS v.1.1 router w/latest firmware (4.41.4).  My wired and wireless computers (windows XP) can connect just fine and see the internet.  My iPhone 3GS can join the network, but cannot see the internet.  The phone can join the network, gets a DHCP address/gateway/DNS info just fine.  Other machines on the local network can see the phone and vice-versa.  However, any time the iPhone tries to reach out to the internet, a message pops up saying "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet".
Again, other machines on my network can connect without issue.  My iPhone has no trouble connecting to other WiFi networks.
I've tried all different wireless encryption schemes, including no password/encryption, with the same results each time.  I've also tried using a static IP address on my phone.  No luck.  MAC filtering is disabled, as is any other access restrictions.
Finally, I've reset the phone's network settings, reset the router to its factory defaults, and tried everything else I can think of.
I've only seen one similar message one these boards with this problem, but it was never responded to.  Anyone seen this before of have other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    David

    Thanks for your response!
    IP:  192.168.1.100  (DHCP-assigned)
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 66.218.44.5, 66.218.44.90 (the DNS's of my ISP)
Router's (local) IP address is  192.168.1.1
Router's internet-facing address is the one assigned by my ISP via their DHCP
    All looks right to me.

  • NB200 Can connect to wireless networks, but cannot connect to the internet

I have been able to connect my Win XP netbook to my secure wireless network at home, other people's networks and public networks like the library and McDonalds. This week I'm away from home and discovered that while I can still connect to a number of different wireless networks, I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
I've had this problem once before and fixed it by reinstalling Windows XP and all my other software. I have no idea why it has happened again. I'm hoping for a less drastic solution to the problem..?

    Hi Nakia,
    > I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
Have you tested other browsers like Mozilla Firefox and does this work?
As MasterG wrote try to renew the IP address using the commend line.
Last week I had a similar problem and I could solve it by updating the WLAN driver. Just remove the driver, restart the notebook and install the newest one. :)

  • My macbook pro can see my home wi-fi network but cannot connect to it.  My iphone and ipad are connected to my home wi-fi so the problem is not the modem.

Wow, I tried to submit this as a problem and the computer lost the wifi connection again, so i lost the whole explanation i typed up.
I've turned off computer and modem multiple times.
When I tried to run the network diagnostic, the macbook pro gave me a "perhaps you are out of range error".  I am sitting next to the modem.
My iphone and ipad are wonderfully connected to the home wifi network, so it cannot be the modem/router, correct?
If I am on the same floor as the router/modem then the macbook pro can see my home network but after tyoing in my password and trying to connect i get a "timed out" message.
If I move down one floor, then the macbook can see and connect to the wifi.  I only have one modem on one floor.
Is there some sort of diagnostic I can run to see why this particular device (macbook pro) is behaving ths way?  It just seems weird because the computer could connect to the wifi network yesterday while i was sitting next to the router.

    SOLUTION!
I've been suffering from this problem for a few months.  I tried everything suggested by everyone, and then, today, I had a mad idea.
I used to work in a room in the house that's about 12 metres away from the router. It's on the next storey up and horizontally about 8 metres away.  The problem started when I began to work in the same room as the router.
Today I became so frustrated that for some reason I walked into a room about 8 metres away on the same level - Guess what?  I connected with no problem at all. Feeling full of joy I walked back to the room where the router is located - Dropped internet connection within a few minutes!  Walked back to the the room that's 8 metres away and, hey presto! I have a connection. I now realise that the problem was that I moved too close to the router.
I can think of no logical explanation for my experience, but empirically it seems to work.  Does anyone have the faintest idea of why this should be the case?  In the absence of an answer I think I may have to start believing in fairies at the bottom of the garden - I'm just off to set a meal for them.
By the way, I don't know if it has any significance, but the router is a BT Infinity router that has replaced the incredibly unreliable Virgin Media cable connection

  • HT1595 Apple tv will connect to the network but cannot connect to the Internet

My apple tv is connecting to my network but it says it cannot connect to the Internet. I've already tried restarting everything and I've also connected it to my portable mifi network with same results. Anybody have any ideas?

This is what the MAC address clone looks like:
Should I enable it?  If so, should I put something in the MAC Address?  What?  I was able to connect it thru my MiFi, but not my home network.  Until today, it's been connected to my home network for about 8 months with no problem.  Haven't used it for a while...not since I got a new router.

  • I can see my laptop on the local network, but cannot connect to it

I run my MacBook Pro on a couple of different local networks, at work and at home. When on another computer on the network, I can see the MacBook in the Shared section of the Finder, but when I try to connect to it, it just hangs. An external party who used to be able to connect to my computer for troubleshooting our business software (using a program called Timbuktu) can no longer connect to my laptop either. When on the MacBook however, I can see and connect to other Shared computers without a problem. I have File Sharing enabled. Is there a security preference I am missing somewhere?
    Thanks!

Wireless connection setup with no problem for printing (static IPs all around with WEP). Opened port on CA firewall but not on router(?) Can print across wireless network but cannot connect to web services. Thinking that I need to enter DNS(s) but cannot find anywhere to enter them.

    Hi,
Open your browser and type in the ip adress of your printer. This will bring you to an internal page of the aio. On the networking tab you shouild be able to set your dns.

  • Windows 7 displays the icon for my C3180 (connected to an XP PC) but cannot connect to it

I have a Photosmart C3180 connected to an XP Pro PC on a LAN. I have a 2nd PC connected to the LAN. I upgraded this 2nd PC from vista business to win 7 32 bit home. The Win 7 PC can 'see' the printer on the network but cannot connect to it. It says: 'Operation failed with error 0x0000046a'. I downloaded and installed the Win 7 32 bit programs and drivers for this printer. It works if I connect it to the Win 7 USB but not across the network. Any advice greatfully received.
    Thanks

Here is a url that goes to a great HP printer diagnostics utilities page. You should be able to find a network connection utility on the page that helps you solve your connection issue.

  • Can see and recognize my wireless network and Internet is working, but I can't connect with ANY computers/iPad/iPod/air TV, etc. I have reset the time machine several times, and can see the network, but cannot access it with any device. PLEASE HELP!

I have Comcast Internet and have it connected to a Motorla Surfboard modem and have that running directly to a 2TB Time Capsule. The TC is serving as our time machine as well as our wireless router. We lost power in a storm a week ago and can no longer connect to my wireless network I can see the network and sign into it via password, but cannot connect with any device(iMac, MacBook, iPhones, iPod touches, air tv, etc.). ALL of these devices worked gat before the power went out. I reset both modem and TC and still can't connect. I can connect to the Internet through Ethernet cord directly from the modems dn have confirmation(per Comcast service) that the Internet is working and we have a good connection.
The TC is less than six months old so I'm not sure what is wrong. I have reset settings with TC to no avail. I have reset the TC SEVERAL times and have no idea what could be wrong and what is prohibiting me from connecting. Anyone that has ANY suggestions or ideas as to how to fix this, PLEASE HELP!!!  I'm going crazy using iPad 3G and not being able to connect to our wifi. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO THE 21ST CENTURY!

Anyone have any ideas or information to help with this?  Any help and consideration is MUCH appreciated.

I cannot get my iMac with built-in airport wi-fi to allow internet connections to Nook and PS3. The devices access the network, but internet connection fails. Internet sharing is enabled, network security (WEP, WPA) is disabled.  What to check next?

On an additional note, I've purchased a wireless router and everything connected on the first attempt.  It just vexes me that the built-in wireless isn't working as a router.  Is this another example of "Mac only plays with Mac"?

  • MacBook Pro sees wireless networks but cannot join any. Connection timeout error

I have a MacBook Pro here that sees all wireless networks but cannot join any. It gives a connection timeout error with every one.
Internet access via ethernet cable works just fine.

It's not uncommon for you to "see" a great many networks, dozens even, yet you not be able to connect to any of them even if they are "open" (no lock icon). There may be a number of reasons for that, such as they're too weak for a reliable connection, or the router may limit connections to only specified devices.
There is only one way to achieve a reliable network connection, and that's for you to connect to your own wireless router. Even that doesn't work if its signal is too weak or if there are many competing wireless networks in your area.
If it's your own AirPort Base Station you're trying to use but can't, the latter could be the reason. The only way to mitigate the effects of wireless interference is to use 802.11n and 5 GHz whenever practicable. Even today you may only find one or two 5 GHz networks being used in an otherwise "crowded" area.
