Recognizes wireless signal, but macbook says "airport has no IP address"

Until 2 days ago, my macbook connected easily to my college campus's wireless network as well has the wireless in my girlfriend's apartment.
Now, it is reading the wireless network, shows full signal in the aiport icon, but when i open network preferences, airport says "not connected" and it also reads "airport has no IP address"
What is the problem?? Please help!

I've had the same problem before, and I've also been one of the victims of the erratic and slow wifi connections with my MacBook. Turning IPv6 off in the TCP/IP section of the AirPort control panel seemed to speed up and stabilize my connection, at least for now. Fingers crossed it keeps it up! Thanks!

Macbook Pro Airport has no IP Address?

I was working on my MacBook Pro this morning and a few hours later I could not access the internet. I checked my network connections and I received an error saying "Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connest to the internet." I have no idea what could have caused this becuase I have not tampered with either the settings or the wireless router (which is a Linksys WRK54G). Any thoughts??
On a side note, I also went into the network settings to look at the TCP/IP tab since that what some people suggested and there is no IP address anywhere.

Welcome to the Discussions!
Cycle the power on the router; if that doesn't restore the IP address, then look at the settings within the router. Also, make sure that Airport is connecting to your router and not some other wireless network.

If the store that you bought it from is nearby then you could try going back to it and ask them to activate it properly. It's either a power adapter issue (not likely) or (more likely) a power supply problem on your MBP. Take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose the problem.

What broadband router do you have?
What model Time Capsule do you have?
If you changed the system over from another router.. have you rebooted the entire network.. particularly a cable modem.. did you power off for at least 20min..

Airport says I'm connected to a signal, but Safari says I'm not...

Hi, I've had my iBook G4 since last October and I absolutely love it! My only complaint has been my ongoing difficulty with the wireless connection at home. Today for example, airport didn't connect to the wireless network. I saw my network in the drop down menu, but after typing in the password it says it has trouble joining the network. From experience and what I've read, I went and changed the channel for the router. So at this point, airport finds the signal, connects, and I'm happy. I try to get on Safari and it says that I'm not connected to the internet. Argh!! What gives!?!
This has been happening on and off at random times. Sometimes all I have to do is change the channel on the router and I'm fine. Sometimes I go through the computer to look at the settings and somehow it'll start working again. Can someone please help me with this?

Airport express loses signal but software says it's OK, and light is green?!

My AirPort express wireless 7.6.4 has just stopped working although the light is green and the Airport Utility software in the computer (10.9.5) says the connection is "excellent". I have it connected to a BOSE speaker which works (I tested it with an iPhone in the dock to make sure it wasn't the speaker gone). The airport express uses a wireless signal from an airport extreme (7.6.4) which is working because I tested the AP extreme and printed wirelessly from the computer. The airport extreme is connected to a modem via an ethernet cable. I have done a soft and hard reset on the AirPort express, and I still can't get my audio happening. I accidentally turned off the modem earlier and that is when the problems started. Obviously the signal is there according to the software. I have run out of ideas how to fix this!

I unplugged all modules, left them for 5 mins minimum. Then reconnected modem and then Airport express. Immediately got a gree solid light after reboot and then Airport Utility used to set up my base. Internet is super fast again.

I acquired an airport express to extend my cable modems wireless signal, BUT having difficulty getting set up.

Having trouble getting set up. I'm trying to set up airport express to extend my existing wireless network, so i can get a better signal for my iPad at the other end of the house. I can get a green light on the airport device , but signal is still weak. How do I tell if apple express has been properly set up. Does the apple express need to be connect via ethernet to my cable modem (either for set up or to operate properly)?

If you are trying to "extend" using wireless only, Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature is a proprietary design that is designed to only work with other Apple routers.
It would be extremely unlikely that the Express could be configured to "extend" a wireless signal from a 3rd party modem/router or gateway.
More likely, the Express has been set up to "join" the wireless network. It does not provide any additional wireless signal in this type of configuration, which is designed for use with AirPlay.
I can get a green light on the airport device , but signal is still weak. How do I tell if apple express has been properly set up.
If you have a Mac laptop handly, you can perform a quick check to see if the Express is actually "extending" the signal.
Locate the laptop near your main router. Hold down the option key on the Mac and click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen. Look for the BSSID and jot down the least few numbers for identification. The BSSID is actually the AirPort ID of the device to which your Mac is connected at that time.
Now move the laptop close to the AirPort Express and perform the same check, If you see the same BSSID, this confirms that the laptop is still connecting to your main router's wireless signal...and the AirPort Express is not "extending" the wireless signal.
If the Express is "extending", you will of course see a different BSSID when you perform the check.
Post back on your results, so we will know how best to proceed if you want to configure the Express to provide more wireless coverage. It will help if you can provide the make and model number of your "modem", which is likely a combination modem/router or gateway type of device.

IPhone connects to wireless network but MacBook pro won't

All,
I have just relocated to Chicago from London and
my new apartment has wireless Internet through comcast and a linksys wireless router. My iPhone picked up the network straight away and I entered the password and all is good. On the macbook though I completed all the info (802.1x) it picks up the full signal but won't get on the Internet. Am I missing something here ? I wonder whether i need to do something else ? I have tried re booting just can't understand why iPhone works and macbook pro won't

Welcome to Chicago. Everything should be pretty much plug and play. Power everything down; modem, router, MBP. Then power up the modem, wait 30 seconds; power up the router, wait 30 seconds; power up your MBP. Select your network from the pull down list under the Airport icon. If you haven't set up the router at all it probably says linksys. Put in you password if you set one up. You may need to put a $ sign first. Once connected, check System Preferences>Network>Show: Airport>TCP/IP. You should have an IP address like 198.162.1.10x.

Wireless signal but unable to view web pages

I have a WRT54G version 6 wireless router, it's security enabled and my XP laptop recognizes the signal and says I'm connected, excellent strength. Problem is that when I open IE no pages will load, if I connect the modem to my ethernet connection I can connect fine.
Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem. This morning I went to the website to follow the directions from Easy Answers: How to set up PPPoE DSL connections with Linksys Router......just a great help this was...after all the plug/unplug/plug/computer off/on/off/on....When I clicked on IE icon to connect to the internet, All it Connected to was this LINKSYS page...couldn't go any place else!!!
I've had to unplug everything and go back to the DSL modem direct to this PC to get on the internet to go to this link....Now, interesting it does make sence that both the modem and router can not have the same IP address, but if I change the router..what do I change it too??? May DSL works at 192.168.1.1 which is the same as the link I went too to get the Linksys page. Thanks

Picking up wireless signal, but it's not letting me connect to the internet

I live in a college dorm, and I pick up an airport signal from someone else, and last night the internet was down all around. This morning however, it came back up and I have a full airport signal, but I can't connect to the internet through it. Additionally, it keeps scrolling, 'looking for PPPoE host', and I keep getting a little pop up window from internet connect asking me for some password (I'm not entirely sure what password). I was messing around with the settings on my computer last night making sure that it wasn't my computer, and I may have done something but I'm not sure what. Does anyone have any idea what I might have done and how to fix it? I would go to the help desk here but they said they can't see me until Thursday, so any suggestions anyone has would be helpful.

This typically would indicate that your computer is trying to use PPPoE (username/password) to access the Internet service. If the Internet provider does not require PPPoE, then this would not be necessary.
Let's double-check your AirPort settings ...
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
o Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create an AirPort configuration, the AirPort card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
o Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
o Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
AirPort tab
o By default, join: Automatic
TCP/IP tab
o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
o Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
Proxies tab
o Configure Proxies: Manually
o Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
o Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
o Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
o Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)

I have an HP2055dn printer that isn't receiving a wireless signal from an Mac Airport router.

I moved the printer and it doesn't receive the wireless signal. Does the printer need to be attached to my computer for it to receive a wireless signal from another computer?

Do you use access point (AP) for your network ? The printer needs to be close to the AP, not computer(s). One option is to have a booster/amplifier but this costs money and time.

I have a wireless router, and an iBook G4, and so does my husband. I get wireless signal and internet, however my husband's ibook only get wireless signal and not internet. He has always had problems with the internet signal on his wireless. Please help!!

I would start by reseating the Airport card. Here is directions on how to access the Airport card. The airport card has to be seated correctly to get a good signal and reliable connection. Make sure the connection is pushed in completely.
Here is another link to install the Airport card. Look at how far they have the connector and compare it to yours. That might help.
