Recognizing Camcorder via Firewire cable

I have just bought a JVC GZ-HD3E/E HDD camcorder and although VC3 sees it it does not produce an image anywhere on the screen in VC3.
I sometimes get a digital pixelated mess but not always.
Does anybody know how to fix this or know a good camera that is compatable via Firewire.
Cheers
Ian

Ian if you are still around the short answer is your camcorder is high definition and VC3 does not work with with high definition. You must change the camcorder mode from HDV to DV. As soon as you do this the picture will show up in VC3.

  • Using camcorder via firewire as audio source

I've connected my camcorder via firewire and I want to record audio from it... but I'm stuck. Is it possible? How do I go about it?

Precisely. The problem is I have to use analog audio path, digital audio over FireWire is not recognized by the sound system. QT does, so does Audion, Skype and Sound Panel doesn't.

  • How to output from media encoder to camcorder via firewire?

I am using CS5.5 media encoder to output edited hi def footage from premiere as DV widescreen to sony FX 1 camcorder via firewire.
How do I route the output from media encoder to the firewire output?
This is the same camera I use for acqusition & import into premiere via firewire.
Media Encoder appears to be encoding the footage properly.
Thanks in advance for any help.

How do I route the output from media encoder to the firewire output?
You don't--or can't, rather. You'd need to use Premiere Pro for this. Check this help page for details: Exporting to videotape

  • Internet sharing via firewire cable

    Hello,
I'd like to know, if there is any simple way to share internet connection from Mac running Tiger Server via firewire cable to windows xp pc? I thought it should be done by starting the Internet service in Sharing preferences, but in Server I'm completely lost.
In Sharing tab of System preferences I see only Remote Desktop, Remote Login and Remote Events services and when I start Server Admin utility, I don't know, which service to set and how and if I even started the right application.
Thank you very much for your answers

    Hello.
Whilst I can invisage a way of doing this you must remember that Server is the gateway, therefore it must be controlling the access out of the building... Therefore, I assume that you have the server connecting to the outside world correctly.
In the setup of the server, you have the option of using firewire as the connector - this is effectively a network port and must be configured as such... if your server runs DHCP (not neccessary, but easier), local DNS and info for the router. Where I can see it falling over is the transfer from from one network port to another - ie traffic coming in from Firewire (say via the newly setup DHCP on the server, this will also force a netwotk IP in the same range that the server will accept), to the ethernet port to get out... it would be easy to use two different subnet ranges; (perhaps this is why you want to do it this way?).
I would have thought that a little ethernet hub to get the machines on the same 'network' - and ethernet at that, and the server being configured to control DHCP/local DNS/router info, and the PC to run DHCP would be the fastest way to get a result. It's certainly the 'accepted' way of working.

  • Video camcorder via firewire

I am looking to buy a camcorder as a christmas gift for myself but am stuck deciding which to get. My main concern is that it must have a firewire connection. Price is not an issue ... I just need one that will connect via my firewire port on my G5.
    suggestions ... anyone?

Get the sony handy cam dcr-trv460. It records on tape, but you can also (with a memory stick) Take digital photos. You can use iMovie to view the video recorded on the tape and all you need is the firewire cable. (It doesn't come with a firewire cable.) I purchased this camcorder last year and it is a good camera. It's easy to use, and it has good picture quality. It's a bit expensive though. about $350 in the US. I paid $400 for it two years ago. (august 2004) Hope you consider this camcorder as I'm an experienced camcorder user. P.S. You can get any brand camcorder you like, just not JVC. They get Terrible reviews on all their video products, mainly camcorders. -Trevor129

  • I need to boot up a mac book via firewire cable

I need to start up my macbook via a firewire cable from my imac. is this possible and what cable do I need exactly.

Boot the iMac in Target Disk Mode: hold the T key during startup
Use Startup Manager on the MacBook: hold an Option key during startup, and select the iMac's disk.
You need a FireWire cable with connections that match your hardware, either FW400 or 800 or both.
This may or may not work, since the OS on your iMac may not contain the correct drivers for the MacBook.

  • Wrong Audio When Using Camcorder via Firewire Help

    Hello all,
I'm having a problem with iMovie. Ok here is what I'm using. Canon ZR960 MiniDV camcorder with external mic input, M-Audio Fast Track USB audio interface and my black Macbook running 10.5.8 leopard.
Ok I set up my camcorder as a pass through video source via firewire in iMovie 08, and I connect my USB audio interface to the usb port so that I can use professional dynamic recording microphones, Shure SM57, Sennheiser e609...etc for the audio portion of the video instead of the recorded audio from the video camera's built in microphone.
In iMove, there is an option to choose the Fast Track as the audio source, which I choose.
But, when I'm done recording, the audio was not from the fast track, it was from the video camera's built in microphone.
How can I recored the audio from the Fast track instead of the audio from the video camera?

Connect it via firewire 800. USB2 is not good for audio or video streaming.
I have 3 D2's connected to my mac pro, works like a charm.
    good luck.

  • Sony digital8 camcorder via firewire port, is it digital or analog?

    hi all,
I was successful to view & record from my Sony digital8 cam via firewire port. I'd like to know, is this connection analog or digital? Has anyone been successful to record, back up and edit their precious home videos on a G4 PowerMac? And how many DVD discs will it take on a full Digital8 cartridge?
    Thanks for your help
    Web dude

is this connection analog or digital?
A Firewire port is all digital.
Has anyone been successful to record, back up and edit their precious home videos on a G4 PowerMac?
Yes. Before the G5 came out, many people used G4s (and some still do) to edit not only home videos, but commercial television programs as well.
how many DVD discs will it take on a full Digital8 cartridge?
A standard DVD-5 (single layer disc) will hold about two hours of DVD-Video ... video AFTER it's been properly compressed to meet the DVD-Video standard.
However, if you're asking about raw footage (not compressed more than it was recorded), you should be able to get close to 14 minutes of footage per 4.7gb disc. Digital8 uses the DV codec which requires about 13.3gb per hour of footage. If you recorded the tape in SP mode, you should be able to get just over 1 hour of footage per tape.

  • How to access files between two Macs via Firewire cable?

I would like to access and copy some files from my PowerMac to my Mac mini. I am using a Firewire cable to connect the two computers, and I get the Firewire symbol floating around on my monitor, but nothing beyond that, and I don't know what the next step is to get to the desktop. Help?
(I also posted this question as part of an already "answered" post by another user... sorry for posting this twice.)

    Hi BDAqua,
Sorry I dropped this thread last month; I would still love to figure this out, but haven't had time to deal with it since then. (In the meantime, I copied the files from the old computer - G3 - to CDs, in order to access them on the computer I use now - Mini/OS Tiger.) Anyway, so I'm writing to say thanks, and hopefully I will pick this thread up again soon... and hope you'll be around to help at that point.
(By the way, the floating firewire icon was the only thing that came up on the monitor, and nothing I did brought me to the desktop: no key, click or prayer did anything to move beyond that floating icon. So, I couldn't get an orange FW icon, or any HD icon at all, since there was only the floating icon, and nothing else...)
    Thanks again.

  • AEX not recognizing internet via ethernet cable

    This is an odd one.
I'm housesitting and my friends have a dsl box with ethernet out to connect to the net. If I plug the ethernet cable into my computer I'm online, period.
If I plug my AEX into the ethernet cable, I can't access the net. I can connect to the AEX fine, but it doesn't recognize that there's an internet connection.
When I plug my AEX into the ethernet cable at work, it connects to the net immediately.
Any idea what to do to resolve this?
    Thanks,
    Tom

A couple of reasons may be causing this:
    1. Since you switched out the device (computer vs AX) connected to the DSL modem, you might have not provided enough time for a complete power recycle...so that the modem can "recognize" the AX.
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, Internet router, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the Internet router; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, Internet router, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
o Power-on the Internet router; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    2. The ISP requirements for Internet connectivity may be totally different (PPPoE vs DHCP) between your friend's network and the one you use at work.

  • How to transfer files between two Macs via Firewire cable?

I heard you can transfer selected files between two Macs running Tiger. I'm not talking about setting up a new Mac w. files from an older one, if that's different? Can someone enlighten me on this or point me to a "how-to" link? Thanks.

Yes, you pretty much just drag and drop or copy and paste depending on which way you like better. It is pretty much like connecting an external hard drive. Just find the files you want and copy them over to your other computer.
This is one of my favorite features from Macs. It's very simple to do and because it's Firewire even large files transfer over very quickly.

Yes, you should be able to do this. Use the Export command in the File menu of iMovie, and you will see that Camera is one of the options.

  • Importing via Firewire question

New to the video thing. Does it make a difference in quality if you import via firewire cable directly connected to the computer versus daisy chained through another firewire device?
    Thanks.

    no.
.. some devices don't 'allow' daisy chaining, we read reports, Canon has some camcorders which don't import at all when other devices are at the fw-port..
but it has no effect on quality.. digital is digital ..

  • Re-imaging iBook from another iBook using Firewire cable.

Hey, I used the Disk Utility to try to re-image an iBook G3, but it does not find the hard drive. These were my steps:
    1. .dmg image of OS X on an iBook G4.
    2. Connected iBook G4 to iBook G3 via firewire cable.
    3. Used the restore option in the Disk Utility tool of the iBook G4.
    4. The image was copied to the iBook G3, but there's no hard drive detected.
    Any help is appreciated..

Just to confirm that I understand what's happened, the iBook G3's drive mounted correctly on the iBook G4? Yes.
and was detected in Disk Utility, yes?Yes.
And then after you restored the G3 and rebooted it, it couldn't find a boot volume? Yes.
Am I understanding you correctly? Yes.
If I am indeed understanding, from what was the disk image created originally? Got the image from tech support so I don't have an answer.
From that iBook G3 or another one of the same basic generation? Got the image from tech support so I don't have an answer.
Or did the image come from some other model of Mac and if so what model? Got the image from tech support so I don't have an answer.
