Recognizing ExpressCard Devices During Bootup

I have a Novatel Wireless XU870 modem which works beautifully with the Mac. I bought it because I became frustrated with connecting via bluetooth through a cell phone (I find a lot of cell phones have buggy bluetooth implementations (and buggy firmware)). Thus far it would appear that the decision was a good one. Novatel provides a connection script and OS X sees the ExpressCard as a modem. My connection is so fast and so stable that I use it as my primary method of Internet connection.
But here's the rub. If the card is in the ExpressCard slot when my Mac boots (17" MacBook Pro), the OS does not find it. After the Mac is booted if I remove the card and re-insert it everything works like a charm. Up to that point the Mac reports the device as missing.
Is there some software way to tell my Mac to check the ExpressCard slot for a device or to tell it to detect it on boot? Sorry if the question is obvious -- I'm new to the Mac world and haven't used any other expansion cards in the past.
Thanks,

Hey. I just got the same card last week. I'm in San Jose, California, connected to Cingular's BroadBand Network (3G HSDPA).
I could only get the speed maxed out at around 1200 Kbps (download) and 340 Kbps (upload), not the 3.6 Mbps as being promoted by Novatel.
I wonder what speed do you get with your network (and card)?
The thing is, I seem to be connected to the HSDPA Network (flashing blue light), but every time there's an activity (any bytes received or sent), the light turns into solid green (which I believe, the GPRS network).
And also, did you manage to get the firmware update for the 7.2 Mbps speed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can I connect keyboard/mouse to shutdown Win2K when I dod not connect it during bootup?

I would like to bootup even keyboard/mouse is NOT connected, but the problem is I cannot use keyboard after then. Can I connect and use keyboard/mouse when I did not connect them during bootup?

When using Windows 2000 with default startup options, it will always check if a keyboard and mouse are connected or not. If it cannot find either of them it will give you a warning.
If you boot the computer without a keyboard nor a mouse connected to it, it will not load the necessary drivers and you will not be able to use either one of them after boot up. However, you can boot with a mouse and keyboard connected, and then remove them. This way you will be able to re-connect and use them again later on.
You could also use a keyboard/mouse emulator to start up your system. You will have to check with the provider of the emulator if this solution allows you to connect and use a normal mouse and keyboard after boot up.
You could also try to find out how to c
hange registry entries of Windows 2000, so it boots up without checking for neither mouse nor keyboard, and logs in automatically. This way you would not need a keyboard/mouse emulator, and you could try using a USB keyboard and a USB mouse. Windows 2000 offers native support for USB devices and they are hot swappable.
For this last option, keep in mind that only PXI-8176 and PXI-8175 controllers have 2 USB ports. PXI-8174 controllers have only one USB port, as some other older controllers, such us PXI-8170 and PXI-8156B.
    Hope this helps,

  • When disabling cdp on a interface, it still sends out updates during bootup

when disabling cdp on a interface, it still sends out updates during bootup.
but if we disable cdp on the whole switch, it does not send out any updates during bootup. Is this correct or is it a bug? I haven't found anything documented on this.

What device are we talking about? Router or switch?
A switch with 802.1af capabilities uses CDP to discover devices that require inline power.

and my computer opened iPhoto as it always does. It obviously recognized the device, but the iPod sis not appear in iTunes and I therefore could not sync it. Is there some setting I may have accidentally turned off?
Also, today, there seems to be no sound coming through either my internal speakers or my headphones, and not just in iTunes. I doubt these two problems are related, but perhaps there is something beyond coincidence and an old computer?

but the iPod sis not appear in iTunes and I therefore could not sync it.
Try reinstalling the AMDS >  iTunes: How to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service on Mac OS X

  • No longer recognizing my devices...

Since downloading the most recent version of iTunes, my computer no longer seems to recognize my iPod or iPhone so I cannot download my purchases to my devices. When I plug in my devices, nothing happens; it does not seem to register that the devices have been plugged in and does not sync automatically, also does not give me the option to sync manually. I have used iTunes for years and have never experienced this problem. What can I do to fix this?

    Hi Carol, lets try this...
reset FW bus, same goes for USB reset...
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive/devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

My I-pod shows up on my computer but is not recognized under devices in I-Tunes, any suggestions?

    Hey corky60,
I'd go ahead and give the following troubleshooting steps a shot:
    1. Try the iPod troubleshooting assistant:
    2. Restart the iPod Service
    3. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
    4. Empty your Temp directory and restart
    5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
    6. Change your iPod's drive letter
    7. Remove and reinstall iTunes
    8. Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items
    9. Update, Reconfigure, Disable, or Remove Security Software
    10. Deleting damaged or incorrect registry keys
You can read more about each step in detail in this article:
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363
I'd start at the top and work through the steps until iTunes recognizes your iPod nano.
    Take care,
    David

  • My dvd drive not recognized in device manager, getting the yellow explanation mark.

my dvd drive not recognized in device manager, getting the yellow explanation mark. Tried uninstallingdevice drive and scanning for new hardware. scanned for updates, etc. I getting no results. The laptop is a Pavilion DV5. Thanks

    Hi,
It could be that the drive has a Hardware issue, but try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, open Device Manager, right click the DVD drive and select Uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let Windows rediscover the device and check.

  • Anyone having trouble with this phone and their in car bluetooth?  Calls dropping not recognizing the device.  Had the car bluetooth reset at dealer. They said it is a common problem with the iPhone?

Bluetooth in car is not recognizing my device and when it does it will only stay connected about 5 minutes.   Blue tooth has been reset at the dealer. They said it is very common with the iPhone? The car is a 2014 Toyota Highlander.  This is very very frustrating as I have a 45 minute commute to work and do not want to have to hold my phone.... Thank you for any help.

I have already done all of that.  It still doesn't work. My husband has the same phone and a 2013 toyota and his is fine. Toyota told me it is the brand new cars and the new apple update.  Need to figure something out.  This phkne is useless now and I've had a iPhone for 5 years
Wow you would think the newer car is just an updated version of what your husbands has.
I wonder if your husbands car was updated to the same connect system if his would not connect?
Does your husbands phone work because he does not have the new iOS from Apple?
Can he hook to your connect system in the car?

My PC USB is not recognizing the device (iphone) and giving error 10.. The USb is malfunctioning but ipod is getting connected easliy

Try DFU Mode Restore. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes.

I have the same problem. Running Win 8 64Bit, updated to latest ITunes and now will not recognize phone or pad. Followed all advice from Apple (uninstall/restart/re-install, all in exact order) ... nothing. Spoke with Apple tech and walked through the whole process, but no resolution. Tech was trying to be helpful but has no way of addressing issue.

That suggests that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
