  • Problem on WinXP / Labview 6.1 with VISA (serial port)

There is a problem on WinXP / Labview 6.1 with VISA which i use to poll the state lines of the serial port. The only functions that i use are "VISA Open", "Find Resource", line state properties and "VISA close".
On my own machine (WinME) it works fine as a standalone application (with runtime engine in the same direction), even if i rename the Labview directory so that Labview is not found.
From my VXIpnp directory i deleted all but these files:
    directory "Win95",
    subdirectory "Bin" containing "NiViAsrl.dll",
    subdirectory "NIvisa" containing "visaconf.dll".
When shipping this to WinXP (and copying "VXIpnp" to the root directory), the serial port was not found, so i renamed the direction "Win95" to "
WinNT", but this did not work also.
I installed the VISA server, although it seems not to be required -- no result.
    Final question:
What must i do for distributing the program as a standalone application for all windows platforms?

    Hey Joachim,
In order to create an installer that includes the VISA Run-time engine for serial IO you will have to purchase LabVIEW 7.x. See screen shot. This packages a small compact version of the run-time that can only be used for serial, but it takes up much less space. The installer that I created has my application, the LV Run-time, and the VISA run-time and it is about 26 MB.
That is much smaller than if I had to include the 32 MB LV 7.1 run-time and the 14 MB VISA run-time separately. It would have been even smaller if I would have uncheck some of the items that I wasn't using.

  • Apple keyboard not recognized while installing WinXP

I posted my WinXP Pro installation problems earlier in this forum but I think having recognized the problem: When Bootcamp boots the machine from the WinXP-CD, it seems that my USB-keyboard (tried both: aluminium and old white plastic) is not recognized, meaning that I cannot input anything to tell the Win installer to proceed. The symptom I see is that the green light of the caps lock key is not there. This probably means that the keyboard is not connected as it should be. Could it be that this is due to the OS 10.5.6 Update? On earlier machines and with earlier versions of Leopard I did not have this problem.
    Please advise.

Same here until my partner provided her usual keen insight - use a Windows keyboard!
Until you have completed the WinXP installation and then re-inserted your OS X/Mac Install CD 1, Windows can only establish comms with a Windows-specific keyboard, not a Mac-specific keyboard. The Win USB Mac-keyboard drivers contained in Boot Camp are not installed until you start up the OS X/Mac Install CD 1....
Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 worked for me (~£20). Will probably continue using this when running WinXP for any extended period; saves having to learn new key combinations.
BTW: I found that once WinXP was installed, downloading and installing the drivers contained in Boot Camp 2.1 from the Apple website greatly improved both control (eg Nvidia driver) and responsiveness of WinXP.
Hope you (all) find this useful; thanks are due entirely to my partner, bless her.

  • 9i installation problem on WinXP Professional

I'm installing Oracle9i on WinXP Professional. The agent
configuration assistant fails when installing and gives the following:
    Parameter "orahome" = d:\oracle\oracle9i
    Parameter "nodeinfo" = NO_VALUE
    Agent Service Failed
Any idea what's causing it and how to solve it?

OK, I have the same problem.
As a result I don't have a tnsnames.ora file and am trying to config. my ora files.

it was generated during some configuring.
I'm not sure if targis is my Host. During the process
the listener file created it so I'm going with it as
    my host.
I'm including the service name as targis also. i
think the service name is the global database name so

How do you find out what the service name is???

  • Ipod with click wheel. Windows displays device not recognized problem.

I'm using a ipod with click wheel, and hooking it up through a usb 2.0 port with the stock cable.
I keep getting a device not recognized message from windows, and the itunes software 8.xxxx does not recognize it even in diagnostics tests. Everything else is pass, except the ipod recognition.
The battery needs to be charged, and is depleted but its not recieving a charge when plugged into the computer.
Does anyone have a solution to this?

If the iPod is not getting a charge through the cable (and the battery is depleted), it may not be recognized because the iPod has no power to do anything.
I would say the problem is either a faulty dock connector on the iPod, a faulty cable, or a faulty USB port on the computer. You have probably tested the USB port possibility already by trying a different port (or trying another USB device on the same port), so I would try a different USB docking cable as the next test.

  • Encoding problem in WinXP

    Hi,
I have a program, which creates xml file fron text (text contains punctuation) and then creates a TXT file and a PDF file.
I'm using UTF-8 encoding, but created XML already contains some unknown characters. When I create TXT file, open it in Notepad, everything works, but in PDF file, there are the same characters as those in XML file. I use iText for creating pdf and I haven't find any method describing encoding of the pdf file.
When I run the same project on Linux, everything is OK. I've also tried to change encoding to Windows-1250, but it didn't work.
    THX for help.

    source file (utf-8) ---> method1 ---> XML (utf-8) ---> method3 ---> TXT (utf-8)
runing on WinXP : XML incorrect, PDF incorrect, BUT TXT file is correct. They both use the same xml file.
runing on Linux : everything is correct.
Please keep in mind that you are missing at least one step in the above - the step where you display it.
So on windows you use notepad to display the text file. How do you display the XML file.
How do you do that on linux?
method1 gets text content from source file using regular expressions and then generates xml file.
method2 uses iText's PdfWriter and Document to create PDF.
    method3 uses standart java.io.BufferedWriter.
I've also tried all available fonts, but it's always the same.
I need the program to recognize the words with punctation and write them.First you need to identify where the problem shows up.

  • Possible Corruption in old Oracle 9i table - Fixed problem with WinXP Mode

EDIT: This was not a corruption in my database. It was a communication problem between Windows 7 (where my app runs) and Windows XP Mode (where my Oracle 9i database runs). Skip to the bottom of page 2 to see the solution I found.
I have an old program that I use constantly. It connects to an Oracle 9i database (version 9.2.0.5). Within the past month, one of the processes has slowed to a crawl. This process saves an Excel file to an Oracle table. The files are no larger than 6MB. The field that holds the spreadsheet is a LONG RAW data type. I cannot figure out why the process is taking to long now. It takes up to an hour to save the file to the table. The code has not changed. Here's what I've tried so far. I'm not an Oracle DBA.
    1. Tried running VALIDATE STRUCTURE on table and all indexes. No corruption found.
    2. Tried truncating the table to remove all existing data. No change.
    3. Tried running DBMS_REPAIR on table. No corruption found.
    4. Tried running DB_VERIFY on all data files. No corruption found.
    5. Tried dropping and recreating the table with no data in it. No change.
I'm not sure that this is a corruption problem, but I can't think of what else has changed. Nothing has happened recently that should have caused this.
What else can I look for?
    Thank you for your help.
EDIT: Changed title to help other people using Oracle in WinXP Mode find this solution.

Hi all, problems with my external disk (and other USB devices) going unrecognizable if the computer goes to sleep.  When I wake it the USB device is no longer recognized.  It also would happen if the disk would spin down.  I set the disk to never spin down, but I can't keep the computer awake all the time too.
I read about a similar problem happening with the nvidia chipset but this is an Intel chipset, I checked for this product.

    4. I was having this error soon after getting this computer.  Then the SSD crashed and the store reinstalled everything, they used a generic Win build instead of the HP recovery disk due to the SSD.  But the error is similar, USB devices going offline at random.
Any help with this appreciated because I cannot perform backups when my disk keeps going offline.

  • Problems installing winXP on Boot Camp partition

    Hi!
I have to reinstall my iMAC after change of hard disk. (Broke down)
I try to reinstall WinXP on my iMAC using Bootcamp, but have some problems.
I have used the Bootcamp Assistant and made a 32 GB partition. Afterwards I want to install WinXP on that partition. I follow the installation guide and insert my WinXP CD and click start installation.
The computer boots and try to restart on the WinXP CD, but the installations doesn't start. Only a black screen and a cursor flashing in the upper left corner.
Only way to end this is to restart computer.
The WinXP is incl. service pack 2 (same as I used before change of hard disk)
    Boot Camp is version 3.0.1
Can any one give me a hint so I can get this installations to work?
    Thanks,
    Ken.

Use Boot Camp to remove the windows partition and make the mac OS X the only partition of the HD again. Reboot the computer. Run Boot Camp again to create a new partition on the HD then follow the instructions to boot up the Windows XP install disk.

  • 9i installation problem on WinXP Pro

I just downloaded 'Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP' from the OTN website. I then extracted each zip into their own directors as the site instructs. Then when I clicked on setup.exe I got an error message saying the JRE cannot be found in 'OraInstall2002-05-18_06-02-00PM'.
But something really strange is happening. Notice the '06-02-00PM' at the end of the directory name, that is my system time when I clicked on setup.exe. And everytime I click on setup.exe a new directory is created with the updated system time appened to the end of the directory name. So even if I install the JRE into the right place the installer still wont find it because it will be looking for it in the new directory it creates with the updated system time each time I click on it. I also have JDK 1.4.1 already installed.
I am trying to install it on my Windows XP Professional system. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong?
    Please Advise,
    Thank you in advance

Hi, I just installed 9i on XP Pro. I'm not familiar w/ the problem you have, but I did install from CD and not hard disk folders. Try burning (after unzip) the downloads onto CD's (total 3) and the installation will prompt you for each during the process. My download version was 9.2.0.1. Hope it helps.

  • Problem getting WinXP machine to connect to Time Capsule

I just changed from DSL to Comcast. Old DSL configuration works:
    DSL modem->(ethernet cable) WinXP machine
DSL modem->Time Capsule->wired/wireless to Macbook Pro and wireless to iMac
    New configuration:
    cable modem->Airport Express->wireless to Time Capsule->(ethernet cable)Win XP machine
cable modem->Airport Express->wireless to Time Capsule->wired/wireless to MacBook Pro and wireless to iMac
Mac clients work fine, XP Client does not connect
I can connect through the Time Capsule to my MacBook with an ethernet cable, so I know the Time Capsule is connected. I did a DHCP release on both Mac machines to get them hooked up to Comcast; did ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, on XP machine, also tried "repair connection" but neither worked.
The DSL modem is in the same room with my MacBook and Time Capsule, while the cable modem is downstairs. I used the Airport Express to connect to the cable modem so I could maintain a wired connection between the Time Capsule and my MacBook for Time Machine.
In the past I used the Airport Express to connect the XP machine wirelessly.
    Any ideas?

I understand it seems backwards, but I'm trying it this way to keep the Time Machine within cable distance of my MacBook so that Time Machine is faster. Is there any real advantage to using the Time Capsule as the base station and the Airport Express as the extender, as opposed to the opposite (as I am doing now?) What configuration is likely to give the best throughput?
    Here is what I have:
First floor: cable modem; iMac with its own external drive for Time Machine
Second floor: MacBook with Time Capsule for Time Machine.
The simplest solution seemed to be just to place the Airport Express (which was unused) next to the cable modem and leave the rest alone.
Meanwhile, I tried again to get the winxp machine connected, and it is working. I'm considering getting a second Airport Express for the winxp machine, so I can get rid of the long cable connecting it to the Time Capsule.
I'm marking this as solved since it started working, and I appreciate your taking the time to respond.
