  • Can I use tape drive for backup with win 2012 OS & Sybase database?

I have installed enhancement package 6 for SAP ERP 6.0 with OS windows 2012 and database sybase ASE(15.7.050). I am facing problem while taking database backup on tape drive. I want to know how to initialize tape drive in case of sybase DB and is it possible to take back-up on same. I failed to schedule backup from DB13 so now I am doing that activity by command line. So please help me to solve these issues.
Here I am attaching some files related with backup commands that presently I am using. My SAP system ID is DQS.

That output actually looks pretty good, it was dumping to the tape drive, it just ran out of tape because the drive apparently doesn't automatically detect when it is reaching the end.
For the next step, try adding a CAPACITY parameter to your dump command as discussed at these places in the documentation.
Specifying tape capacity for dump commands
Set the Maximum Capacity for a Tape Drive
Your output above shows it was able to dump 87565594 KB before it ran out of tape,
so lets be a little conservative and try
dump database DQS to TAPE1 with   capacity = 87000000, init
    go
When the dump reaches that point, ASE should prompt you to pop in another new tape
and then issue the sp_volchanged procedure from a second session (it will tell you what parameters to use for sp_volchanged).
Note: once we get the dump working successfully, we can then create a logical dump device that would store the capacity value, and create a full dump configuration so you gain all the new functionality like dump history, etc.

  • Which DLT Tape Drive for Replicator

Which brand of DLT tape drive is recommended for DVDSP4 authoring? The DVD+R DL discs are good but the replicator would like for me to use a tape drive. Using Mac G5 w/dual 2.7 Ghz Power pc. 2gig ram. Thanks

    Hi Ray,
A DLT 7000 (make sure it says "LVD SE" on it somewhere, and that you acquire the proper active terminator, along with an ATTO SCSI card to hook the DLT up to, for installation in PCI slot 2 if you're on a G5) using Type IV tapes will get you the fastest writes, while staying readable by all replicators.
A DLT 4000 (same as above) using Type III tapes is just as compatible with replicators, but darn slow writing in comparison.
A DLT 8000 (ditto) with Type IV tapes is the fastest writing in this legacy class of devices, but some replicators might not have one of those drives around. In that case, an 8000 can be set to write at 35G density (instead of 40G), so the replicators 7000's can read it's output.
    Take care,
    Trai

  • Disk V$ Tape Drive for Rman

    Hi,
    Os : Aix,Red hat 4.2
    Db : 10
We taking rman backup which stores in Tape Drive.(It took 11 hours, incremental 0 level).due to ORA-27030 & ORA-19511,we couldn't use Tape drive temporarliy.
So we used disk for rman backup.(It took 4 hours to complete).
Which is best storage(ie fastest) for rman backup /restoration whether DISK or TAPE?
What are the factors determine it?
    Thanks & regards,
    VN

What is more important to you, then choose. It's simple: tape is more reliable and faster drives. At a cost of not very high volumes, they are about the same per megabyte. It - http://www.allbackup.ru/articles/article6.html - is more less actually.

  • How to use multiple tape drive for single filesystem on single client.

    Hello All.
I want to backup single filesystem with multiple tape drive.
Incase of Symantec veritas netbackup "NEW_STREAM" for multi-stream backup.
Backup client has a  single backup filesystem like /data1  directory with 4 LTO6 drives.
    /data1 directory doesn't have a sub-direcotry, just present a files.
If /data1 directory has a sub-directory like /data1/aaa, /data1/bbb, /data1/ccc , Is it possible to use multiple drives?
    Please anybody answer the questions.
    Thanks advanced.

  • Need a good NAS drive for wireless access to my multi-media

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I have a large collection of music, video and photo files that I want to get off my laptop and onto a network drive that can be accessed wirelessly by other macs, and my xbox. Streaming ability and speed are the main priorities. Any help and suggestions for a good setup would be appreciated!
My current network setup is as follows:
    • Airport Extreme Base station directly connected to a cable modem
    • Network extended by another AEBS w/ a network printer connected via USB
    • Network extended by an Airport Express w/ a Skype phone connected via ethernet

Thanks, but it doesn't work. The device gets an IP just fine but it does not do any DHCP relaying. Even when I manually set my laptop to a LAN IP and connect it to a wired port it is unable to get to the internet. The documentation doesn't mention much about setting up a DHCP relay. Any additional help would be much appreciated.

  • Good hard drive for macbook

Hey guys, so I have a macbook that I have had since 2007 and I am running out of space, big time. I need to get an external hard drive because they dont make more internal space for my macbook. I need one that is small but has a lot of space and if possible is wireless because I move around a lot. Anyone know of a good one I should get? PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!

You don't want a true wireless external hard drive. It would be very slow compared to any "wired" drive you might use.
If by "wireless" you meant bus-powered, i.e. a drive that gets its electrical power from the data cable connecting it to the computer, that's different. There are many good choices.
I am partial to the offerings at Other World Computing (macsales.com). My current favorite series of portable, bus-powered drives are their OWC Mercury Elite Pro Mini line. They have FireWire-800, USB 2.0, and eSATA interfaces, come with all the cables, and you can purchase an inexpensive power supply so you can use it with computers that don't deliver enough power through their data ports (any Mac with built-in FireWire can deliver enough power for one of these drives). You can get them empty and put in your own drive, or up to 1.5tb (that's 1,500gb) preinstalled.

  • Need good Hard drive for 4:4:4 HD....recommendations?

Hey guys, we are going to start capturing straight from our camera into a new quad core. So we are goin top notch for this operation. We need a fast enough hard drive to capture full 4:4:4 HD footage. We don't need anymore than a Terabyte for now. Any recommendations. Im guessing SCSI hook up is the best for this, correct? Thanks in advance.

Uncompressed HD 4:4:4 isn't a "light" codec. It is one of the most demanding codecs you could be using. $6000 is actually cheap...and doesn't get you much storage. You might have to look at $12k to $15k to get decent enough space. And you need enough to get you AT LEAST 400MB/s...so an 8 drive to 20 RAID.
Plus the Controller Card costs another $2k.
Uncompressed HD isn't cheap...not by any stretch of the imagination. 4:4:4 is demanding and will require a lot of high cost equipment.
Also its going to be a portable system, to capture on set.
What are you doing? Shooting with what cameras? Capturing with what? These drives are not the most portable...but you can do it. But they are also VERY LOUD and require a lot of cooling, so they may need to be off the set in a very well air conditioned room. Good news about Fibre, you can be a mile away and still get great transfer rates.
Welcome to the world of HD. At least I am getting my feet wet with DVCPRO HD. TO go all in with 4:4:4...that is the World Series of HD. Well, the Minor League World Series. World Series is what Michael Mann, David Fincher and George Lucas are doing with HD.

  • Replacing FC tape drive for SAM-FS

One of the fibrechannel LTO-4 drives in our STK SL-500 library is reporting frequent media write errors, causing a couple of dozen VSNs to be marked as "unusable." Sun is bringing a new drive, so I have marked this one as "off" and ejected the media. It's easy enough to replace the drive. But is there any way to introduce the replacement drive without performing a reconfigure reboot on the server?
Also, right now, this drive is /dev/rmt/0. I'm not sure if this is the case, since the new drive is being connected to exactly the same FC port as the original, but if the drive numbering changes upon reconfiguration, will I need to modify my mcf? I don't recall where the "rules" are for proper numbering of the tape devices.
    Thanks,
    Charles

It turns out that we don't need to do any of this because the SL-500 is, in fact, smarter than me. It presents the same WWN for a given drive slot. The tray was pulled, the drives swapped, then it went back in. Verified with cfgadm -al that it showed up as before, issued "samcmd on eq" then the hungry archiving queue instantly put it to work.

  • Suggestion on a good external drive for imac

I just got to the point of having no memory space. I am looking for the best approach to picking a solid, cost efficient external hard drive. Any suggestion on where to get or possible prices.

Robert and BDAqua gave some links to OtherWorldComputing (OWC) a reputable vendor of Mac-compatible accessories and upgrades. I don't represent them, just another satisfied customer over the years.
I think FW drives are in general better performance than USB drives, but there are many variables like how many other devices you have connected, etc... I think most folks would recommend FW drives over USB.
Your model info still doesn't quite narrow down the potential list enough to know if you have FW 400 or FW 800 ports, I think it depends on the display size, only the 24" had the FW800, I'm not really sure.
In your Apple Menu Bar, select the About This Mac, then in the little window that pops up, click the More info button. This will launch System Profiler. You will see a window with lots of info about your computer hardware, click on the FireWire triangle and see the info displayed about the Maximum Speed of the channel.
So for example if you have FW 400, this means the max theoretical speed is 400Mb/sec, if you have FW 800 then your max speed is 800Mb/sec. Neither of which you will probably ever attain this quoted Max speed, but why spend more on a FW800 drive if you only have FW400 ports on that iMac, unless maybe you plan to use it with a future machine.
You definitely need to free up space on your primary internal disk, free space is needed for temporary files and virtual memory as you use your computer, it can lock up if you lack sufficient free space.

  • What is a good hard drive for Macbook Pro 2011?

My hard drive is pretty much done with
im looking for a hard drive to instal and the thing is idk which to purchase..
what type of hard drive should i be looking for for my Macbook Pro LAte 2011 Model with a 500MB
please inform me what brands and data size are appropriate for my laptop

    juneguz,
you’ll need a SATA disk (either HDD or SSD) with a 2.5-inch form factor, up to 9.5 mm tall. Your Late 2011 model will support SATA III speeds, so for best performance, choose a SATA III drive. Different people have different preferences here; my own HDD preference would be for Hitachi drives with five-year warranties.

  • Can anyone recomend a good audio interface for 2011 PowerBook running Lion?

    Hi.
I've been using MOTU hardware and software for years.  They seem to keep their drivers updated and I've never had a problem with any of their gear as I've upgraded my OS's as often as they've been introduced.
