Recomendation for dual Apple monitor?

Just swapped over to dual monitors today, but the Samsung syncmaster 22 inch P2250's produce too much heat. they make me sweat and remove O2 from my lungs when closer than an arm length away. Going to donate them today, but I would like to get a good graphics monitor or dual monitor setup.
any recommendations for an older apple monitor combo? have about 27" desk space. need to have the close up viewing mode for photoshop, video editing, graphic work type stuff.
never experienced such a bad problem with heat before from a monitor, is this a recent development in technology to make monitors unbearable to be in front of for any length of time, to maybe encourage more outdoor recreation?

found out that the old apple 20's didn't have as good a resolution as I thought.
can you use a good LED monitor, apples or elsewhere Like
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ACER/B243HLBMDRZ/
and a smaller monitor and just use the smaller monitor for folders, email?
ideally, i'd like something the same height of the large monitor, but tall, not wide. like an ipad stuck to the side.
do dual monitors have to be the same resolution and orientation?

  • G5 Dual 2.0 with 17" CRT Apple monitor

    Hi guys,
I just got a G5 Dual 2.0 and I realised that it can't be connected directly to a 17" Apple CRT Monitor. I hence purchased a DVI - ADC adaptor. Upon installing this gadget, when I pressed the power switch on the CRT monitor, it lights up, but the display remains off. When I released the button, the light goes off too. I don't really understand it. I am using two monitors at the same time. When I switched on the system preferences, I can see 2 displays active, I just can't get the other display to "light up"
    Please advise. Thank you.

A normal CRT connects via a DVI to VGA adapter. The Apple CRT uses ADC.
The Apple and Dr. Botts DVI to ADC adapters do not provide the RGB analog signals needed for a CRT monitor. The Gefen adapter does provide these signals but its power supply is not designed for the extra power a CRT display needs. See <http://www.applefritter.com/node/4008>
In the link, one person was using the Gefen adapter, but the power supply was getting VERY hot. Buying the Gefen adapter and a new, bigger, power supply, would be the easiest way to get things to work. The only cable cutting would be moving the cable from the Gefen power supply to the new power supply. That would just be a two wire cable. If you can find the matching plug for the Gefen power supply, you wouldn't have to use the Gefen power cable, but make your own, which is probably better because Gefen might be using wires too small for the extra current.
It would be easier to get another display. A used 17" CRT with a VGA connector should be cheap.

  • What's a good non-Apple monitor for my 13" MacBook Pro? Looking around 20-23 inches, preferably LED.

I have a 13" MacBook Pro and I'm in the market for a non-Apple monitor (Apple monitors are way out of my price range). I'm looking for 20-23 inch monitor, preferably LED. I need it to edit articles for publication and for Bar Exam studying in the next year. What brands have shown to have good compatibility with Mac? Do I need an adapter of some sort?

You'll need an adapter cable, and which one you need depends on what version MBP you have and the inputs on the monitor.
I just recently purchased a Dell U2410 to use as a second display with my iMac. Overall I'm pretty happy with but my use is a little different, I wanted something with very good color accuracy for photo work.  Based on what you said your needs are, you probably don't have to spend as much.
One thing I will say, is this particular monitor (and I believe all Dells) has an antiglare screen on it, which to be honest, took me a little getting used to.  Because of the matte surface, text and documents aren't quite as sharp and can even look a little hazy at times.  For your uses  you may be better off with a glossy screen as long as glare isn't going to be too much an issue for you.
BenQ makes some pretty nice and affordable monitors these days LED backlit or otherwise, and on that note, theres absolutely nothing at all wrong with non "LED" monitors, both technologies are still using an LCD panel for the display, they just deal with the backlighting differently.
As the other poster mentioned, NEC is always a good option as well.  Less common on the consumer side, but they make very good professional products.

  • Which cable for pc laptop to apple monitor

    Hi-
I have a PC laptop, which has a VGA output
I have an Apple monitor, that I think is a thunderbolt display...it has one of the thunderbolt (lightning) icons on one of the empty ports in the back...there's no writing on the monitor and I don't have the box or receipt so I cannot say for sure this is what it is.
So would this be the right cable to get my PC to display on the monitor? -->

I noticed my laptop has an HDMI port as well. Would that work?

  • What happened to dual sources for input and monitoring?

In LP7 you could set up for two different hardware sources for input and monitoring. That's Gone?
Gee's there is so much wrong with LP8 and all the constant crashes, makes it an unusable program. Apple really needs to get this fixed. They should already had a fixe. Lord knows they have seen enough disgust from users. To go this long without any updates is shameful! IMHO!

  • Practical use for dual monitors in Lightroom

I am running Lightroom 2.1 in Vista 64 with 8 GB of Ram for those that will ask.
I have an EIZO CE240w monitor and a 21 cintiq Wacom tablet monitor that is connected on my ATI 4850 Video card on that PC.
How would others configure their monitors and how would they use each one to their benefit.
I'm just looking for suggestion since Lightroom 2 can now support dual screens... but why??
    Mike

    >For me Lightroom is almost unusable without a dual monitor setup (I use grid view on the smaller monitor and do all adjustments and other main work on the larger monitor), but it's also true that its support for dual monitors is somewhat primitive and seems a bit like an afterthought.
I'm a little baffled by this (and other) comments regarding Lr's dual monitor support. In what way is it unusable? Is it because you cannot tear off the panels and move then to another monitor? If Adobe chooses to implement this feature you will get no complaints from me but I use my dual monitor setup in Lr much differently than in Ps.
In Ps I move all my panels to my second monitor and use my main monitor exclusively for my images. I may work for hours on a single image and glance only occasionally at the second monitor, preferring keyboard shortcuts and mouse-click context menus to manipulate the image. However, when I need a quick glance at a panel there they are on the second monitor. In Ps the image is king.
In Lr, on the other hand, speed trumps everything else. It's all about dealing with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of images and doing it quickly. I set my panels to Solo mode and Auto Hide & Show. A quick Shift+G brings the grid view to my second monitor. My main monitor is all image. I often do not need to see the panels. For example, use the , and . keys to navigate through the Basic adjustments and tap the + and - keys to increase or decrease values. D for develop, E for loupe, C for compare, grid always on the second monitor. When I want the panels I want them close to the images and do not want to have my eyes wander to a second monitor. Everything fast, fast fast.
Hit G, loupe now on the second monitor, grid on the main. Shift+Ctrl+Alt+K to set a keyword shortcut, then Ctrl+Alt+K to paint the keyword across images. Ctrl+K to enter more keywords on the keywording panel. The panels nestled nicely near the grid. A click, the panel is gone. (I would however like to see the develop presets permanently on the second monitor.)
It's fast, fast, fast. Lr, Ps: two different beasts; two different workflows. Each uses dual monitors, each differently.

  • What is best non apple monitor for Mac mini

What is the best non Apple monitor that is 21.5" for under $200 that can be used with a new Mac Mini?

I like both my older $200 LG Flatron and newer $160 Samsung SyncMaster monitors. Both have (digital) DVI input, the LG is on the Apple Supplied HDMI to DVI Adapter and the Samsung is on a MiniDisplay Port to DVI adapter.
Just beware that you can only use one older (analog) VGA monitor on the Thunderbolt/Display Port with Apple's MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter and you should look at ones that support (digital) HDMI, DVI and/or DisplayPort inputs.

  • What hardware is needed for dual monitors

Have you plugged the USB cable into the computer also as the brightness is controlled over USB. If this does not work, you would need the Apple Display Driver for the version of Windows that you are using. The display driver is part of BootCamp software that you may be able to find online

Does enyone know a perofesional touch screen monitor that i can use for my apple laptop???Thanks. monitor that

I still cannot figure out why it doesn't always work.  All parameters were met and my bluetooth keyboard is set correctly to wake the computer.  My keyboard becomes backlit, but my LG monitor does not pick up a video signal and is black and my laptop monitor is off.  The only way I can get out is to hold on button on laptop until it shuts down and I can start up again.  This happens on an intermittent basis.  Sometimes it works and other times I get black screens.   I need to know if I can use command F1 to get the laptop to detect the display or is their another key combination to send the signal to the external monitor when I can't see anything because I hate to do a hard shut down to get out of this mode!  Please advise!

  • I have an ipod touch 4g. I want to use our internet hdtv as a monitor so others can see my screen in 40". Sony guy said that can do it wirelessly through the internet router instead of Hdmi without the need for an apple tv.Is this true and how do I do it?

As I said above, I want to view my iPod screen on our new 40" Sony Internet full HD TV.
I know that you can do this via HDMI but a Sony guy said that you should be able to do this wirelessly by going through the router. Is this true and can I do this without the need for the Apple TV?
We are soon going to get the airport extreme, so will it work with that?

    1. Is it a smart TV?
    2. If so.... Is the TV connected to the Internet?
    3. If it is.... Check if your iPod and your TV share the same IP address (Wi-Fi network)
    4. If they do.... Then you should go to wherever your "Other Media" tab is.
    5. After that.... Search for you iPod. Because it is connected to the same network, it should recognize the device they same way AirPrint does.
    6. If you happen to see this fail, then try this method:
    1. Do you have a Bluetooth-enabled computer/laptop?
    2. If so.... Enable the bluetooth on the computer/laptop as well as your iPod.
    3. After that.... Your iPod should be actively searching and it should find the computer/laptop.
    4. If it did.... Transfer the file onto Windows/Mac (preferably Mac) and find the program to open the file.
    5. After doing so.... Connect your computer/laptop to the TV via HDMI Output Cable.
    6. Now it should work!
