1 x 52x CD-ROM
1 x CD-RW
WhisperRock 4 Heatsink w/Fan
2x 80MM Case Fans Both Blowing Out
Im gonna put a new Northbridge Heatsink on http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod262.htm
and a new PSU:
http://www.littlecomputers.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=90&products_id=1189
but what else can I add or do to make this overclock more?
also what is some High Performance Memory to go with this Motherboard?

as you're looking for something to allow you to overclock further, i am going to move this to the Overclockers & Modding Corner, seeing as you have no particular problem with your board otherwise
you'll find a lot better help and advice for performance components here
good luck!!

  • New Bios for K7T266 Pro2-RU

    Hi All,
Are there any new bios' for the K7T266 PRO2-RU (i.e., above 3.7), that will support the AMD 2200+, 2400+ Processors once the Modification is done?
    Thanks.
    Craig

    Hi,
The K7T266pro2 (MS-6380 V2.0) needs the modification to support all the latest 266FSB (TBred) CPU's because there is a timing change, removing the capicitor solves this and allows you to get the CPU starting.
MSI's official statement is that they don't support this as the board is long out of production.
However, they where nice enough to give us the modification in order to give you the posibility to get it running.
They're plan was to stop releasing BIOS'ses at v3.60 because there was no need to release another.
I convinced them to release 3.70 that has updated CPU-ID code for all 266FSB CPU's, and no again, they still don't support any CPU over the fastest Palomino officialy.
What they did was giving us the posibility to use an outdated board a bit longer, be happy about that.
As for the testing of CPU's on this board, that stopped at BIOS 3.50...
Any given board will fade away at some point in time, thanks to MSI (unofficialy), the K7T266pro2 with the modification can be used a bit longer......
All you need for the right multiplier is leave it at auto....as the correct one is hardcoded on the CPU itself...

  • Questions on Flashing Bios for K7T266-Pro2

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade bios for my old K7T266-Pro2 and downloaded the file "6380V37"
It includes kind instructions for flashing the bios but still I want to make sure something.
    1. Currently my OS is windows 2000 in NTFS file system. Do I choose the procedure for AMI Bios or Non-FAT file system?
    2. For AMI case, it requires a booting diskette from win98 or win me. Can I use a booting diskette from windows xp? It is hard to find a system with win98 or win me around me.
    3. For Non-FAT file system case, I don't have a startup diskette from win 98 or win me. It says a plain boot diskette is not enough. How can I make the startup diskette from win 98 or win me?
    Any advice will be appreciated!

    You are welcome so far!
This is among other things said in the link I supplied:
"5. Boot the computer using a windows ME or windows 98 startup disk. It must be one of these! A plain boot disk will not be good enough.
If you do not have Windows ME or 98 to create the floppy you can make one on a friend's computer or download a self creating copy from a website such as www.bootdisk.com. "
To be frank, I don't think you should update, as it wont help. I'm not enough of a messerschmitt to know how to get the support for that processor, I'm afraid. But hopefully some who are good at over-clocking will come along to give the right advice. Perhaps there is a trick to fool a pin or two. If you can get your hands on a K7N2 Delta your processor is supported. It should be really cheap by now, but you will probably need a better PSU than what you have now, and the PSU should have a 4 pin 12 volt connection.

  • K7T266 Pro2-A USB Drivers...

    Hi,
I have the K7T266 Pro2-A Motherboard, I am having some problems with my USB deviced, mainly my printer. I will be in the middle of printing a large file (A 710 MB Photo) and the USB will just disconnect between the printer and the computer..

I Don't know if either of those are correct, or not. MSI makes it too confusing having a whole list of different motherboards with the exact same model # (IE: MS-6380) and only using different sub-model numbers.. Its really dumb..
Neither of thease showed up on my Live Update 2..
    Thanks..

  • K7t266 Pro2 And Pc2700 Ddr Ram?

Does anybody here know if a k7t266 pro2 mobo will support pc2700 ddr ram?  COMPUSA Has a great deal on PNY right now--512mb pc2700 ddr for 50 bucks after rebates....As far as I have read, the documentation says pc1600 or pc2100.  But we all know that rules are meant to be broken.......
Thanks for any help I receive!!!
My specs are in my signature!

You can use pc2700 ram but without any benefit against pc2100, speed will be the same.
Be aware that it's normally no good idea to mix different ram type, this can cause trouble.

  • Memory module not recognized on K7T266 Pro2

    Hello.
I have a computer with only 256 Mb of RAM and I wanted to add 256 Mb but my second memory module of 256 Mo is not recognized whereas it  functions very wel.
    Here are details :
    - Mother board : MSI K7T266 Pro2 (ms-6380 v2.0) with 3 memory slots
    - BIOS : Award Modular W6380F1 V3.0 071902
    - Memory module of origin : Samsung 256 Mo PC2100 (2 Sides)
    - New memory module : Corsair Value 256 Mo PC3200 (1 Side)
    Configs Tested :
    - Samsung only : OK
    - Corsair only : OK
    - Samsung in Slot 1 and Corsair in Slot 2 or 3 : the computer starts but with only 256 Mb of RAM (in this config, Everest Ultimate Edition finds both memory modules but also only 256 Mb of RAM)
    - Corsair in Slot 1 and Samsung in Slot 2 or 3 : the computer starts with a blank screen and several beeps.
Can somebody help me so that my second memory module is recognized correctly ?  I specify that I did not modify the BIOS.
    I thank you by advance.

I'm no memory expert, but from being around here I've learned that there is more to a stick of RAM than the MHz speed. If timings etc were perfectly the same for the 3200 and the 2100, the system (the Northbridge) could simply set down memory speed to the slowest of the sticks.
However, I also know that many have been helped by entering BIOS, Advanced Chipset..., and go to the subtitle Memory timings controlled by..., and change from By SPD to By User. Then manually set down to 133 (266 effectively). This is if you absolutely want these two sticks.

  • Raid 0 Failure! XP Pro won't read array on MSI k7T266 pro2 *URGE

Before anything else, thanks for reading and I hope you can help:
I have an MSI k7T266 Pro2A-RU motherboard with 512MB of Mushkin RAM, AMD XP 1600+, a Geforce2 MX400, Audigy Soundcard and a cheap PCI NIC card.  I consider myself an above average technician and I've come up on a problem I can't figure out.  There is about 80GB of data at stake here:
I have 2 IBM Deskstar 40GB 7200 RPM drives that were configured in a RAID 0 (stripe) configuration over a year and a half ago.  This gave me a total of 80GB online.  Windows XP Professional was installed and the drives have been running fine every since...
The system was practically bulletproof and it was very rare it ever locked up for any reason.  A few days ago, however, the system locked up about 4 or five times.  There was no software or hardware that had been added or installed and system use hadn't really changed up or down. I run up to date antivirus software (Command Anti-Virus), run behind a secure firewall and watch what I open.  The lock ups were random, but happened when I was away from the computer. ( I leave my system on all the time).
Being a bit paranoid, on 1/28/03, I acquired an 80GB Maxtor drive to install to back up my datafiles.  Before the install, I notice the system had locked up at least once that day, so I figured I would hurry up and get the drive in to back up.  I installed the 80, booted, configured it in XP and made it active and transfered a few test files over.  No problem.  I made the decision to back up my data files before bed and continued to work for the next two hours.  The system ended up locking up with a windows blue screen STOP error message: KERNEL_FAULT_INPAGE_ERROR when I tried to run a program.  Thinking little of it, I rebooted the computer to find I could no longer access the data on the RAID.
I've tried nearly EVERYTHING I can think of.  (You can already assume I've done the basics (check/replace the cables, etc).  Here's a list and the results:
---- Reboot in all available modes (Safe,  Safe with NW, Normal, Last known, etc).  They all FAIL.  In safe modes, you can see where the system actually tries to boot off the array (runs through driver files and stops on MUP.SYS) and hangs. Same result with all other drives removed except the RAID.
---- Installed another drive, loaded XP with the raid controller files (By the way, it's a Promise ATA 100 "lite" controller), plugged the RAID back in and it hangs on boot up.  Safe mode gives the same results.  Tried the same thing with Windows 2000 (so I could access the NTFS partition) and Windows 2000 won't load when the array is plugged in, but loads ok when it isn't (used the 2000 driver for the RAID controller for this attempt).   Safe mode gives the same results.
---- Removed all drives except the Array and tried to reload XP (with the array drivers downloaded again from the site.) No effect.  System hangs.
---- In a last ditch effort, I have access to Winternals Administration Pack 2002 of all of their tools.  ERC Commander, designed for this type of problem, Disk Commander, and the other tools all do the same thing:  Any time the system attempts to read from or access the arry, the OS will hang.  It won't even check for NTFS compatibility in the ERC commander program booting from a boot CD, and for those that are familiar with it, the Disk Commander program blue screens with a STOP: 0x000007B (0xF896963C, 0xC0000034, 0x0, 0x0) error. Research has told me this is an INACCESSABLE BOOT DEVICE message.
These are the main highlight major attempt things and there's a few things in between I've tried (like using Norton Ghost to try and mirror the array to the 80GB.  Norton ghost said there is an error reading the partition and can't go any further (Returns an Internal error))
I'm at the point where I have run out of available options and don't know what else to try.  I have since purchased the exact same motherboard off e-bay to see if it just so happens to be the controller and to see if my RAID will come back so I can at least read the data off of it.  It should be here in a few days.  If that doesn't work, I'm toasted.  Could I be fighting a hardware (drive or board or controller) problem.  Is the array THAT corrupt the OS can't read it???
If anyone has any other bright ideas, I'm willing to try about anything short of damaging the array. Any help is greatly appreciated.  Please post here, or e-mail to [email protected].
BTW, the Promise BIOS is Fasttrak 100 "Lite" v 1.31.1(Build 30)
    Thanks.

  • K7T266 Pro2 & new hard disk

    Hi
I have just upgraded my K7T266 Pro2 with a 2400+ chip (with modification & bios) and upgraded RAM to 1 GB. All works OK.
Now I am trying to put in a new 250 GB Western Digital hard disk and installing Windows XP Pro from scratch and I am running into problems. The hard disk is on the main IDE connectors.
The BIOS recognises the hard disk. When installing Windows XP, it seems to only detect a 131 GB disk!. Windows installs but when the computer reboots as part of the installation, the hard disk will not boot, even when forced as the fist boot device.
If I boot from the Windows CD and go through the install again same problem.
    Any suggestions?

    harrisc:
You mentioned that you updated the BIOS - the last release (1.9) had a note that it "Support Maxtor 160GB HDD (4G160J8)" so I would expect the board to support the 250 Gb WD drive, as well.
The problem probably is in Windows - XP versions before SP1 did not support 48 bit LBA (Logical Block Addressing) which is needed for drives larger than 131 Gb to be recognized.
Here is a link to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article with a 'fix':
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q303013
If your installation disk is a pre SP1 then that's the problem; if it's SP1 or SP2 then there IS a BIOS limit (contrary to what I assumed above).  Your best bet then is to partition the drive with a ~50 Gb primary and 200 Gb extended partition and live with two logical drives.
    Good luck,
    ss

  • K7T266 Pro2 RU: Boot problem, wrong CMOS setting

    Hi All,
I have had the Pro2 RU MB for a year now with very few problems. Over Christmas I was cleaning up my computer and was going to do a format :C and reload windows. When I went to start the computer after cleaning it up (remove all cards, clean up dust) I got 4 red leds on d-led. Tried everything (different memory, reset bios, unplug everything except video, ect) always 4 reds. Bought a duron 1.3 GHz put it in started the computer it start to post, went through fastrack raid screen and then I got "CMOS settings wrong" "press F1 to setup", "F2 load defaults" ...... screen I go F1 into setup make ajustments and everytime I save and I get 4 red leds on reboot. If I go F2 load defaults and continue it will try and boot, my hard drives are in a raid 0 array and it will check floppy, ide 0, cdrom by default so it can't boot. If I reboot at this point it will go 4 red leds. I can't flash the bios which is ver 3.2 because the bios protection is enabled and I can't change any settings. I could use some help this one has my stumped.
I have tried 3 different power supplies, and that is not the problem.

I have reset the cmos with pc unplugged...yes.
I have read the FAQ at this site, I have used the search feature at this forum I have googled my problem searched a few other sites and I am stuck. I have been building computers and troubleshooting problems for 3 years now. If it was a new board I would RMA it at my wholesaler.
It seems like there is a problem with the cmos chip because it will not accept any changes to the settings. As soon as you save the changes in the cmos the computer reboots and I get 4 red leds in d-led.
    Cheers Rugger

  • K7T266 PRO2 RU constant freezing! need help!

Ok, after two weeks reading every thread in this forum that has this word "K7T266" on it, i decided to write these lines:
My good k7t266 pro2 ru stopped working a few weeks ago, i thought it was the cpu processor (athlon 1800+, i think thorougbred), the thing is that windows xp gots freeze randomly, i have reinstalled almost 10 times, trying everytime different bios combinations (version 3.3 through 3.7) and different settings (the ones written in some tweak/perfomance threads here), i have also tried three different power supplys (250W,350W and 400W) (amps always exceeded your recomendations on other threads), i also have tried different memorys in different combinations (1 bank, 2 banks, etc), tried too 2 different video cards (gforce 4200ti 128mb from evga and a gf4 440mx from excalibur i think), i have removed every other card (nic, usb connectors, etc), also have tried with a different hard disk (40 gb and 60 gb from maxtor and western digital). Tried cleaning and adding new thermal paste to the HSF (is the one that comes with the cpu), tried connectin the cpu fan to the power supply, tried with a different cpu (athlon 1300, palomino i think). I dont remember what else i tested, oh, i have it totally "naked" (no case) , i can send you pictures of it , oh, another thing i tried different via drivers (none, 4.43 and 4.49) , and windows xp has sp1. Ok, i dont remember anything else by now, i am buying a kt6 delta (i saw bas loved it) it must arrive this tuesday but i dont want to throw the k7t266 to the trash, it seems to me that there is some bad capacitor (they dont look abnormal, i have fixed msi boards with blown and inflated capacitors before). Ok , i  just wanted to know that i really need your help here, dont know what else to say. Thanks a lot for your answers.   :(

Ok, i am not at home to test the voltage thing that h2O proposed (i tried once but was afraid of burning cpu and memory, these things arent cheap in venezuela), and about the temps, they were around 40 (idle) and 50 (playing battlefield1942) (it's very hot in my room), that's why i got the board undressed (no case at all, just PS) . H2O , can you please help me with the voltage thing ? which values are safe and can be tested? tomorrow i will have the kt6 delta but i still want to know if the k7t266 can be used or sold.
    Other things
    - i have cleared cmos everytime i changed settings proposed here.
    - i have clean installed xp (format c: partition) , BTW it sometimes got freeze during the first stages at installation , specially if i set FSB to 133.
    - i did not tried to overclock (too hot and too expensive to try, i can not afford and/or find a better cooling device (water, best fan, etc)).
Again, i would really appreciate any help you can give to this poor bastard  ;(
PS: sorry for my english, it's not my native language.

  • Msi-6380 k7t266 pro2-ru keeps restarting

I have just been given a  msi-6380 k7t266 pro2-ru from a friend who has just bought a new board and therefore gave me his old one. But i have plugged everything with a radeon 9000 128mb graphics card and an athlon 1400mhz and 512 2100ddr ram and the pc begins to load and the top two diagnostic leds light briefly and the buzzer beeps once and then all 4 red lights come on and the pc restarts itself.  ?(  This would indicate to me that it is a CPU problem, but i have changed the cpu with different ones and similar results occour??? ;(  Does anyone have any idea what this problem may be????? I would be very greatful for any help.
    Many Thanks

  • K7T266 Pro2 RU problem and question

    Hello
I recently upgraded my CPU from an Athlon Thunderbird 1.400 to a AthlonXP 1700+ on my MSI K7T266 Pro2 -RU (MSI 6380 v2.0). The problem is that when i have the option Fast Command enabled in the bios, windows (Windows XP Professional) will crash and reboot after a couple of minutes (this happens even while i am browsing the net). With my previous CPU the fast command option didn't cause any problems. I wanted to ask if there is a way to solve the problem as the Fast Command increases the performance of my PC by 6-7%.
Also while the mobo won't support the tb2200+  will it support a lower clocked tb cpu (like 2000+)? And will i have a problem if i take an AXP2000+ and o/c it to 2200+ or 2300+?
Sorry if the above questions are already answered but its 02:40 in the morning and i don't have the courage to search the forum
    Thank you for your replies

I had the fast command problem with the 512 mb generic ram (2x256) which i replaced later with the corsair XMS 2400, so i don't think that the cause of the problem is the memory. The memory now runs at 145 at CAS2 stable.
I will try tomorrow flashing the mobo with the 3.3 bios and see if it solves it (i had the 3.6 before i installed the new cpu).
Also i read in another forum that a mobo supports up to a specific cpu because higher clocked cpus require higher current and might destroy the circuitry in the mobo. If this is not true and its just a bios support issue then i will buy a XP2000+ and will try to o/c it to FSB 145-150 (2200+ to 2300+).
Do you have the fast command enabled? I see we have the same mobo, memory and (almost) the same cpu.
