Recommed CS4 or CS3 Book for CS3 User

Now that I've read through several CSS books, I decided to go back to DW for jazzing up
some pages, and using some of the new controls.
But since CS4 seemed to come out right after CS3, I was caught off guard, and now find
that all the book stores have CS4 books. Can anyone tell me if they had good experiences
using CS4 books with CS3. Are there only subtle differences?? Or will I get lost??
I mainly want a good book on using DW with CSS.
Thanks
Howard

It's so long since I last used CS3, I can't remember all the differences, but the biggest changes regarding CSS are that the Property inspector in CS4 has a separate CSS mode, using a Targeted Rule field, and the New CSS Rule dialog box is considerably different.
Bricks and mortar bookstores might not have CS3 books available, but you should be able to get Mastering CSS with Dreamweaver CS3 by Stephanie Sullivan and Greg Rewis from an online store. My book, "The Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS, Ajax, and PHP" is also still available. However, the CSS part of the book is only a few chapters, so you would probably find Stephanie's book more helpful.

  • Contribute CS4 and CS3 user compatibility

I recently had my school purchase 30 copies of CS3 witch I
manage their connections. I have no plans to upgrade to CS4 yet but
if one of my teachers purchases a copy they may only have the
option to buy Contribute CS4. Will this be a problem as far as my
ability to administer their connection and will this be a problem
for other CS3 users if I decide to upgrade. Will I need to go out
and purchase 30 more upgrades? I can't seem to find anything in the
tech docs yet and I am trying to be prepared for the
    problems.

Yes, for the most part. Some things have changed, for example
    the markup
used when Flash is inserted, but as long as you aren't doing
    things like
that, you will be quite safe.

  • Address books for another user sharing my computer for now

At this time I am sharing this computer with one other person ..I have set up and named another address book for them.
Is there a way that their email addresses do not get added too mine.. is there a setting where we can set it up so each one has there emails being added to their own addy book.. At the moment there emails are being added too mine... this problem will be ongoing fpr a period of time....
    Thank you in advance. :)

''re: At this time I am sharing this computer with one other person .''
Usually, when people share a computer, each user has their own User Account which they logon using a password.
This means that Thunderbird then runs in that User Account and creates a profile in that User Account which holds all the Profile data, emails, passwords, address books etc specifically for that users email address mail accounts.
So then no one can read each others emails nor access other peoples passwords and they can use their own address books.
So if you are sharing a computer and sharing a Profile, then it is advisable that you do not have any stored / remembered passwords, unless that person is eg: spouse and you do not mind them having full access to all your personal stuff.
You have a couple of Options:
'''1.''' Create User Accounts on your computer so that each user has their own User Account, Create a Thunderbird Profile folder and set up mail accounts storing personal emails and address books.
This is the only method offering best security.
'''2. ''' Create another Profile for the other person. then create mail account for that Profile. This will then have it's own folders, address book.
Use Profile Manager to create another Profile.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
Make sure to uncheck the box 'Don't ask at startup' to force it to ask which Profile to use.
Any user can still access any profile.
    '''3. ''' In current situation.
Stop auto saving outgoing email addresses that are not in the address books as this uses only one setting per Profile.
Tools > Options > Composition > Addressing tab
uncheck: 'Automatically add outgoing email addresses to my'
    click on OK
Then you would need to use an Addon in order to be able to select a specific address book when you wish to add the email address/contact to an address book. At the moment, if you click on the FROM header email address or right click and select 'Add to address book', this adds to the default address book called 'Personal Address Book'. This you cannot change because you are using the same User account and Profile.
    But with the addon 'MorefunctionforAddressBook'
Right click on eg: From header and choose > Save recipients addresses' > as Contacts
This allows you to select the address book you require.
    Addon 'MorefunctionforAddressBook':
    * https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
    Download to desktop.
    In Thunderbird:
    Tools > Addons
    Clickon on gear wheel icon and select : Install addon from file;
locate file you downloaded and click on Open
You may need to restart Thunderbird.

  • LabVIEW Book for advanced users? German or english

    Hello,
I am searching for a book about LabVIEW (ideally 7.1. but later versions are also ok) for advanced users.
All the books I find on amazon are introductions for beginers.
I have done the LabVIEW Tutorial and I am programming since a couple of years, so my level ist something like beginer II or intermediate I (compared to LabVIEW classes).
Now I would like to improve my programing style and learn something about different VI architectures, professional design, performance optimizing, etc.
Are there any good books in english or german?

  • Aperture book for iPhoto user?

I've been running iPhoto for about 10 years, and the time has long been ripe for me to switch to Aperture.  I'm currently running iPhoto 2009 on an OX 10.6 Mac Pro.  I'd like to switch to Aperture on my Mac Pro, and given that I'm running 10.6 the latest version I can get looks like v3.2.
Can anyone recommend a good book for me to get up to speed in Aperture 3, given my iPhoto experience?  I am a fairly advanced user, with a programming background.
    John F
    New York, NY
    ps...
What I like in iPhoto 2009 that I want to keep:
Albums (with "folders" and "subfolders") scroll on the left-hand side.  Below the albums list, in the same column, is the optional info box for the selected photo, with the rating, user comments, date taken, etc.  To the right is the photo set for the selected album with resizable thumbnails. iPhoto 2011 inexplicably requires a WHOLE NEW COLUMN just to see comments, photo ranking, and other info for the selected photo which is a maddening waste of screen space.
What I want to get from Aperture:
Multiple home directories with a unified view:  Right now, I have one giant 100Gb iPhoto directory with all of my photos in it.  I'd like, instead, to have one directory per year, but have Aperture browse them all as if they were a single unit.
Portability of photo subsets:  I'd then like the ability to copy just one of these directories to my laptop, and then be able work with that subdirectory in Aperture.

In addition to Kirby's introduction to the fundamental features of Aperture, a few notes on the transit from iPhoto to Aperture.
I also have been a long time iPhoto user and really like the added freedom and flexibility that Aperture brings.   But one thing was not so nice - there is no easy transition from iPhoto to Aperture 3.2.4 or earlier, if you want to import your iPhoto libraries as libraries and maintain a lossless workflow.
I'm currently running iPhoto 2009 on an OX 10.6 Mac Pro.  I'd like to switch to Aperture on my Mac Pro, and given that I'm running 10.6 the latest version I can get looks like v3.2.
Your transit to Aperture would be much smoother, if you could take the plunge and upgrade to MacOS X 10.7.5 and migrate from iPhoto 9.3.x to Aperture 3.4 .
The big difference would be, that you could open any iPhoto Library in Aperture and vica versa and could profit from the representation of images and versions as pairs of original master files and virtual versions.  In the iPhoto version you are now running, each edited image is stored twice or more. Each edited verssion will create an new copy of the image file in your iPhoto library. Aperture has always stored only the orginal master and a description of the list of adjustments to render the edited version from the original. You do not duplicate the amount of storage required, when you edit an image, like in the earlier versions of iPhoto? Have you ever been tempted to use iPhoto Diet? With Aperture you can forget such worries.
If you import your iPhoto '09  library to Aperture, there will be no help but to import each photo twice - the original and the edited version and it will be a waste of diskspace compared to the import in Aperture 3.4 and a lot of work to group these duplicates and to decide what to do about them - redo the edits in Aperture and discard the edited iPhoto version, or what?
So, if you can, do this from a Lion or Mt.Lion system, if you already have a large iPhoto Library.
    Your wish list:
iPhoto 2011 inexplicably requires a WHOLE NEW COLUMN just to see comments, photo ranking, and other info for the selected photo which is a maddening waste of screen space.
In Aperture you have many ways to view the Metadata - hovering HUDs, tabs, overlays on the images;  all is highly customizable.
Multiple home directories with a unified view:  Right now, I have one giant 100Gb iPhoto directory with all of my photos in it.  I'd like, instead, to have one directory per year, but have Aperture browse them all as if they were a single unit.
No way. If you want Aperture to browse your photo libraries  as if they were a single unit, it has to be one library. But you have more advanced tools in Aperture to structure your Aperture library than in iPhoto, and Aperture supports huge, distributed Aperture libraries. It works well - my main Aperture library holds all photos I have ever taken plus some more.  See Kirby's explanation above.
Portability of photo subsets:  I'd then like the ability to copy just one of these directories to my laptop, and then be able work with that subdirectory in Aperture.
Kirby already explained that.  It is easily done by exporting partial libraries and reimporting.

  • CS4 InDesign Export Book for Digital Edition - Using TOC

We have been using InDesign 3, now CS4 Version 6.0.2, to create book PDFs without any issues for a few years.
Recently we tried to use the new feature "Export to Digital Edition". It works correctly as long as we do not select "Include InDesign TOC entries".
If we do select that option, then the job ends with the message "All documents are missing or failed to export". Tried different options, looked around the web for any clues, but no one seems to have come across such a condition.
In case it is relevant, we are using Vista Premium operating syste.
Any suggestion or help is welcome.
    Thank you,
    Martin

While I've used the feature, I've never used it with a TOC. You should upgrade to 6.0.3 to make sure that it wasn't fixed there.

  • Creating 2 address books for different users?

my wife and I don't want to login as separate users on the powerbook, but we do want to be able to import and synchronise our address books from our palm PDAs and keep the addresses separate. So far it seems that we would merge the addresses into the "all" group the first time we synch. Is there a way to set up 2 different users?
your help appreciated to keep my partner happy!!

    No there isn't.
In order to do so, you must create a login user account for your wife. She will have you own Home folder/directory which will include her Address Book contacts, email account or accounts in Mail, etc.
You can enable Fast User Switching which makes the process of switching between user accounts a fast and easy process.

  • How can I share the same music but separate calendars and address book for 2 users on the same computer?

Can anyone help to answer if I can share the same music account on itunes but still maintain separate calendars and address books on the same computer?

Make sure each user has their own computer login.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder to /Users/Shared.
    Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library and select /Users/Shared/iTunes/ folder.
Quit iTunes and log into other user.
    Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library and select /Users/Shared/iTunes/ folder.
That is all you need to do.
Any changes in iTunes by one will be seen by all others (since you are using the same library).
All users will have their own Contacts & Calendars and all other info.
If you are using Fast User switching, you must quit iTunes before switching users if others wish to use iTunes.

  • Best book for CS3?

    Dear Forum Members,
Having just acquired premiere cs3 and not having used premiere previously, I am in need of a book to consult at this stage of the learning curve. As premiere cs3 is a new product, it doesn't have any commercially available books for the user yet, aside from a manual and a classroom guide which adobe has for sale. Should I buy the best/most popular guide for premiere pro 2 or should I just buy what adobe is offering? If premiere pro 2 is not that different from cs3, maybe one of the premiere pro 2 books will do.
    Thanks,

  • InDesign CS3 will not open for second user

I am running InDesing CS3 on a iMac 10.4.11.  InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator all open for my admistrative user account.  I recently created a second user account  that is unable to open InDesign even though Photoshop and Illustrator open just fine.  I checked the permissions for all three programs and it appears that they are all set exactly the same.  Does anyone have any idea why I am only able open InDesign for my user account but not for this new user account.

5.0.3 should not have installed after 5.0.4 (that's a problem with the installer), and it may have added problems. First things to try, though, before we get down to uninstalling and reinstalling again, are trashing the prefs (Replace Your Preferences), trying a new user account, and starting with extensions disabled (hold down the Shift key when you boot).
If it comes to reinstalling again, you should probably also run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) before reinstalling, and make sure you have the correct update which you can download again from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4029

I have the problem that I want to share my Cs4 library (win) with a Cs3 user (mac).
Files are fine to share if I export them as .inx

In general, exporting the Library items as snippets will work.

  • Advice on books for learning CS3 Master Collection

I've been trying to learn as much as I can from tutorials and just basic knowledge from around the web.  I am understanding a little as I go, but am thinking that a book or two might help me as well.  I have several sites that I visit from time to time, so I don't need help on that front.  Can anyone give me some advice on what literature I should buy?  I own the CS3 Master collection, and I'm hoping to learn Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Dreamweaver, and maybe other programs related to web design.  I've heard that the bible series is pretty good, but since I'm still considered new I really don't know where to start.  And not sure if this is the place to ask, but as far as web design is concerned, should I also get a book for coding?
Sorry if this is a topic that is asked every five seconds, but I've looked around as much as I could and this was literally my last option.  And in case anyone was wondering, I asking in this forum since every time I start off in one program I usually end up in Photoshop, so I assume people who know Photoshop also know some of the other programs, also I didn't really see a forum best suited for my question.  Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

You would do best to buy individual books for each application.
Some books try to have an overview of several different applications, but they only give the barest amount of information on each one and are basically useless.
Some books like the Bible series are extremely large (Photoshop CS3 over 1,200 pages) but don't assume that more is automatically better.
I think they make some of them big just to impress people looking for an instruction book at their local bookstore.
The Bible and some other books include a CD of images and give step by step instructions using the supplied images.
But they really don't explain how the procedures work and why you would likely using this procedure rather than another.
They basically said, do this, now do that, do another thing, etc.
The Quick Start Guide series by Peachpit Press dispenses with the hand-holding step by step intructions.
It explains how and why to do things and has screenshots on every page to show the menus, tools and procedures of actually using Photoshop.
The Quick Start books just give solid information and are usually much more affordable, which is helpfull if you are buying several books for different applications.
Peachpit Press also has another series of books, their Real World series. These are larger books but without the CD, etc.
Over the last 20 years I've had many different books, but in my estimation the Peachpit books are the best of the bunch. Your mileage may vary.
Since CS3 is rather old, I'm assuming you are looking at Amazon or other online sellers. You might even be able to get some used books through Amazon resellers an a greatly reduced price.
    Good luck.
