Recommend a good console server vendor

Hello all
I'm searching for a good console server and was hoping anyone of you had a good tip.
I really want the console server to supports the use of straight cat5e cables between the cisco equipment and the console server.
I dont want to use roll-over/adapters for each machine.
I've only found the Digi Passport equipment that can do this.

The only other site I know of off of the top of my head is Wegener Media. They have a Slot Loading combo drive for $149. That's still a lot of money, IMO.
Optical drives are a risky thing to buy secondhand off a place like eBay, so it may be harder to find a cheaper alternative.

Root password fails on auth to Solaris Management Console Server

I've setup Solaris 10 x86 on a VA linux 1220 server, all is good so far except when I try to create additional users. I am logged in as root, and the root password logs in to the CDE, but fails on authentication to Solaris Management Console Server when I try to use any of the management apps like computers and networks or Users. So I'm stalled at the point where I should be configuring the system. I have been very careful about typing in the password exactly as I use it in the login screen, but it never works in the System Management tools for This Computer. The password I'm using is 26 characters long, is it too long? Or is there a step I'm missing?

One of my famous guesses, but unless you changed the default password algorithm the maximum length of your password is 8 characters, when logging in on the console or desktop, anything typed after those eight characters will be ignored (unless this behaviour changed very recently).
Its possibly that SMC, and its server component WBEM does not ignore the extra characters, which could cause this behavior.
What happens if you try and login to SMC with the root user and only the first eight characters of your password?
Btw, if this was the problem i think there is a way to change the default crypto algorithm to something that supports more characters.

In R3 it is not possible
If say material X is 100 units lies in your premises the vendor consignment stocks (the vendor property lying in your premises ) and out of that 100 units if you are making a sales order and then a goods issue means it is not possible
To sell that material you need to make it your own stock ( that is transfer from vendor consignment to your own ) as good as buying that stocks and then sell it
But the same scenario is possible in IS retail
For this iS retail server is reqd
In Retail you can play with vendor consignment stocks as much as possible without making our own stocks
You can search SAP library regarding the settings of the same

I saw a post here a few monthas back, it was a discussion about replacign an iBook G3 Dual USB Screen....the link went to a re-seller who sold 2nd hand screens but refurbished somehow....

Sorry, my mistake. It's the same vendor, though, if you hadn't figured that out. If your 800 MHz iBook has a Combo drive, you need the translucent display. If it has a CD-ROM optical drive, you need the opaque.

If you are using the application server that comes with Oracle Applications - you probably need to use the JDeveloper version that comes with that one too. (The OAF forum will have more info on this).
If you are using JDeveloper 10.1.3 then you can use a stand alone OC4J 10.1.3 to deploy your applications - and save yourself the hassle of messing up with your apps server.

ACS48 as console server

I've been trying to setup an ACS48 Avocent/Cyclades console server on my home lab. I followed the manual as far as configuring the ACS48, but am not able to connect to any devices. I don't have the ADB0039 adapter, but did make an adapter using that pinout. I'm hoping for some assistance determining if the cable or ACS48 configs are incorrect.
If anyone is using the same console server, I'd greatly appreciate any tips on the setup as well as a confirmation that the ADB0039 adapter pinouts are correct.

I have the ACS48 and am just starting my Cisco studies.
I have assembled several home routers and switches in two 12U desktop mini racks along with a rackmount Ubuntu PC
I was fortunate enough to grab my ACS48 off ebay new in the box for $65 and is has all the goodies with it.
I know little of Linux but have managed to get the ACS48 going and even update it's firmware to the latest code
I have my security model set to Open on the Cyclades and am trying to Telnet into it using PuTTY with the IP address and port but am not having any luck.
I have the Cyclades Cisco adapter plugged into the console port on a router and a straight thru short cat5 patch cable plugged into the adapter and then the serial port on the ACS48 I am trying to connect to via PuTTY
Anyone have experience with this?

LaCie is one. The Macally 500BC Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure with a separate Pioneer S-Drive is another viable option.
I personally use multiple ADS Tech 1394 Pyro FW Enclosures with a Pioneer 110D S-Drive as well as a few ext. FW HD's and they all work well on mult. G4 systems (completely interchangeable via FW 400).

The Griffin Survivor is a military-grade case that I use. It's $40 and I purchased it at Best Buy. It has a rubber piece that covers the charging port, but can be easily removed for charging while still in the case. The only downside of the case is because of the added girth, it makes the iPod unusable with iHomes or other docks unless you take it out of the case.

I have been using Mac for 3 years now so am not a total beginner, but still need help in many areas of OS X use. These forums are brilliant and thanks to the willing help from more expert members I have learnt a lot ( thank you), however there are times when just having a book open in front of you is the easiest way to get to grips with something. Can anyone recommend a good user manual for people like me who don't need a real beginners guide but also don't want a mind numbing, in depth, advanced text. I already have Maria Langers Visual Quickstart Guide which is useful but is exactly what it says, a quick start, and David Pogues Missing Manual which I find a little frustrating as he seems to fall short of explaining exactly how to do something after he says it can be done!
I guess what I am really after is a clearly written book that is good for beginners and more advanced users alike, with screen shots to show you what you should be doing.

For troubleshooting, Dr Smoke's Troubleshooting Mac OS X eBook is invaluable. Again, I have the Panther edition. I haven't, yet, felt the need for the Tiger edition with so many of the tips available free via his FAQs.
The only drawback, of course, is that when one is in a fix and possibly unable to boot up, the e-book isn't accessible unless one has a copy on another Mac.

I just installed solaris 8/07 fully patched the OS using smpatch went to use smc and get No Solaris Management Console server was available error.

Regarding SMC (not SunMC)..
Note: SMC = Solaris Management Console
SunMC = Sun Management Center (topic of this forum)
Patch 121308-16+ makes WBEM "secure by default."
Customers running Solaris 10 6/06 or prior must modify the client's WBEM
configuration file to allow remote connections after installing patch 121308.
1. Modify the following line in /usr/sadm/lib/smc/policy/smcserver.config:

remote.connections=false
TO:
remote.connections=true
2. Stop and restart wbem.
# /etc/init.d/init.wbem stop
# /etc/init.d/init.wbem start
3. Verify that WBEM is now listening for connections to port 898
on all interfaces:
# netstat -an |grep 898
*.898 *.* 0 0 49152 0 LISTEN
In Solaris [TM]10 update 3 (11/06), the startup mechanism for WBEM was changed
from the legacy (rc script) method to the new Service Management Facility (SMF).
To allow remote WBEM connections on Solaris 10 update 3 or later:
# svcadm disable wbem
# svccfg -s wbem setprop options/tcp_listen=true
# svcadm enable wbem

Recommend a Free Mail Server (Windows)

Can somebody recommend a free mail server that I can use when running demo's / POC's / Training etc from my local machine for use with Delivers.
There seems to be a few out there - I'd be interested if anybody can advise there experience with any of them?

But what you want to do is not trivial to configure. By "Mail server" for Delivers people typically mean an SMTP server which is basically a relay server. But for the relay server to work it needs to be able to relay messages to the internet so when you send an email to an external domain it can be routed. It you don't want web access then your SMTP server won't be able to relay any messages so it will unusable for your demo. What you probably need is to configure a local domain in your SMTP server so that it relays messages to itself. Then you will need a POP3 server running to retrieve the message locally.

Solaris 10 Console Server won't start

Pardon this slightly off-topic query, but I don't believe there is a more proper place for it.
Been a while since I've upgraded anything, but I finally installed Solaris 10 on my Ultra 30 (a clean install, replacing Solaris 9). The installation went well, except that when I started up the SMC, it wouldn't connect to the console server. I have stopped and started the console server, but it will never show that it's running. The status is always "Solaris Management Console server not running on port 898". I have seen numerous other folks having the same difficulty, not no solutions so far. Any ideas? I'd hate to roll back to Solaris 9, but without a solution I can't even add any users to the system...at least using the GUI.

I assume you haven't enabled RBAC and turned root into a role at this point.
Take a look at the useradd man page for a command line level example of adding users.
I just started using Sol10 x86 myself. I haven't tried installing SMC just yet but I'm pretty sure the wbem is a legacy boot script. I looked on my newly installed Sol10 install and port 898 isn't up on my server either. A "svcs -a" command didn't show up services that appear to be SMC console related.
Stupid question - Did you go through the SMC install process on that server ?
