Recommend a Lion compatible legal size flatbed scanner?

My old Canon 8400F no longer works under Lion.  What is a recommended replacement, for use with Lion and Mountain Lion?

As you know most flatbed scanners accommodate a 12" long page, and you're looking for 14". They usually cost some more.
Depending on what type of original you're scanning you might consider a scanner with a top feeder that takes multiple pages and usually includes legal size. If it's for digitizing records that could be a way to go.
I have a Visioneer that I run through Parallels on my Mac Pro to digitize years of paper records that are legal size.
If you're looking for quality flatbed 14" scans Epson Perfection is my favorite and they do a 14" model.

  • Where can I get the necessary Lion Compatible software for an Epson Perfection v500?

I bought an Epson Perfection V500 photo scanner a couple of months ago but never got around to opening the box until today. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago I upgraded my Mac OS to Lion and the installation discs that come with the scanner are not compatible with Lion. I did go to the Epson website and downloaded the Lion compatible drivers for the scanner but when I try to perform a scan, it looks like Mac's "Image Capture" is being used as the interface. The install CD (that as noted above won't work in Lion) contains all kinds of software including Epson's "Epson Scan with Easy Photo Fix" and other possibly useful applications but the Epson website provides no information as to how I'm supposed to get those applications. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the info, revybawb. The page that I found on the Epson site listing the driver you mention is here:

Here's the information about the epson13659.dmg driver from that page:
Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v3.74A
    Intel-based Macs with OS X (v10.4.4 - v10.6.x), Mac OS X (v10.3.9 - v10.5.x)
    epson13659.dmg - 17.4MB - posted on 02/03/10
This is a pretty old driver -- February, 2010. It says that it supports only up to Mac v10.5. Are you sure this driver works with Lion?
Has anyone else had luck getting the Epson Perfection V600 to work with Lion?

  • CanoScan N670U flatbed scanner, Will it run in LION

I have a Canon CanoScan N670U flatbed scanner. Does anyone have an idea if someone has new drivers or if there in the works so it will work with Mac OS x 10.7.1 Lion? Or is this Canon scanner just another paper weight?
    Thanks
    Ed............

You should give Vuescan a try. It shows the N670U as a supported scanner.

My thanks to you and all other respondents.  In backing up "theVault" App I thought that my ancient version of Stuffit was inadequate to unzip the backup file.  I attempted to download the latest Zipit version which only works with Lion.  After upgrading to Stuffit 9 I realized that theVault backup file was encrypted so as to not open on the backup Mac.  One must restore to the iPhone where is does open.
My apologies for the imprecise post.  I am finding limitations with not being able to install Lion on my early MacBook Pro.  I can recommend theVault to those looking for a password App with secure backup.

  • Recommendation Request: Best flatbed scanner for use with Mac and iPhoto?

I have a flatbed scanner that Mac doesn't recognize. It's 9 years old, does a great job, but only works with Windows. Period. Don't ask what model or anything, I've already done the research, it's hopeless. MOVING ON... I'm tired of BootCamping to Windows, running scans, and then rebooting and hunting down the files...
So, what flatbed scanner do you use, rank it on scale of 1-10, and how much did it cost?
This thread might be useful to many people... FLATBED scanners, only, please. Make another thread for sheetfed scanners if you like.

This site has some good info on many scanners: Scanner Reviews | Flatbed Scanner |.
I'd look for one with high optical resolution. It's akin to the zoom in digital cameras, optical vs digital. FWIW I use a Canon 8600F (now replace by the 8800F) which does slides, film strips as well a photos. What I like about it is that you can scan multiple photos and have each saved to it's own file. Other brands of scanners offer that as well I'm sure but it'sjust a feature to consider. My scanner also came with a bundled copy of Photoshop Elements for Mac. Not the latest version but worked very well. Its replacement also bundles PSE.

  • A3 OS X compatible flatbed scanner

I need an A3 flatbed scanner but have read that Mustek scanners are terrible, I only mention them because they are cheap and plentiful. Does anybody have any experience regarding A3 scanners and OS X?
I am not looking to spend much money.

  • Looking for Lion compatible All-in-One printer

Looking for MacBook Pro Lion compatible All-in-One color printer for my Mom who is 77 and on a limited income when it comes to purchasing ink. Preferred options include wi-fi, auto duplex, memory card slots, easy to operate. I was leaning toward a Kodak printer but majority of reviews indicate when any one of the ink cartridges is empty no more print jobs will process until the empty cartridge is replaced. In addition, folks indicate even though ink is less expensive, replacemnet is more frequent indicating that perhaps the cartridge capacity is smaller in size. Both are deal breakers. Canon PIXMA MX892 Wireless and the HP Envy series both appear impressive but I am confused regarding compatibility with Lion. Appreciate experienced recommendations, Thanks

    ChrisPbass,
I would suggest contacting HP Home & Home Office. They will be able to narrow down the field to what would be best for your particular use. There number is below.

  • LASERJET 100 MFP M175MW scanning legal size document problem

I am on a Macbook Pro, running OS X 10.8.5. I am also using the HP Scan software 4.0.
I am having problems scanning a Legal Size document. It always cuts off the bottom portion, acting like it was only us letter size.
After loading a document onto my scanner/printer:
I open the HP Scan software,
           Select the Scan Button
Change the Crop to US Legal in the dropdown area.
            Continue
Then when I look at the image scanned in, it is not complete.
Is there something else I need to do to make this work, maybe a setting on the actual scanner/printer.
I have tried to read all support documentation possible and I cannot get this to work. I even updated all my operating systems upgrades, but I am not running Maverick yet.
I would be thankful for any help at all.
    Thanks!

    @MAMAC4
To my knowledge the only way you can scan legal is from the ADF, have you tried that? If you are trying to scan legal sizs docs from the flatbed than you will experience the cut off that you are stating in your post.
Please try to re-scan the document using your ADF feeder and see if this will solve your issue.
    Thank you.

  • Flatbed scanner for windows 7

Any recommendations for a flatbed scanner thats works with windows 7. I will mainly be using the scanner for documents.
    Thank You

These models should all work with Windows 7. The only difference is your needs.

People usually get all-in-one printers, however. Have you seen this?
HP 6500A Plus All in One
It has the scanner built in, and it's definitely Windows 7 compatible. Saves room on your desk!

  • Lion-compatible External HD?

I'm shopping for an external portable hard drive and find in reviews that some are not Lion compatible.  I'm looking for recommendations of a drive that will work with Lion on my macbook, and with Time Machine, etc...  Thanks for the input!

Any that use the Oxford chipsets should be fine. If a drive system isn't Lion compatible then there's a problem with its hardware/firmware.
I'd suggest you build your own. You save a little money doing so, and get to pick the components, and it usually takes about five minutes with a small screwdriver.
    Basic Backup
Get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver. OWC even sells enclosure kits with tools or you can buy a small toolkit inexpensively.

  • Acrobat Scanning with CM1312nfi MFP. Can't change from legal size paper

I've had the same problem with mulitple versions of Adobe Acrobat, but most recenlty with version XI Standad.
All my scans using the Acobat interface result in legal size scans using the ADF, instead of letter size.   When I try to "Configure Preset"  the Paper Size is set to "Automatic" and there are no other options available in the drop down box.
I have to do a custom scan and manually select the paper size using the HP interface, but I would like to use the Acrobat interface instead due to the volume of scans I perform.
In Acrobat the Scanner is identified as "WIA- HP CLJ CM1312 Scan".   I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and Acrobat, but the problem persists.
    All help appreciated.  Thanks.

Not sure if this is the same problem I'm having. I have a HP C5180, and when I go to print I get all the necessary options (by dropping down the traingle as advised above), and all's great..... apart from the Source tray is always set to Main Tray instead of the Photo.
I can change it each time I print, but it won't stay defaulted to Photo Tray even when I save or 'Save as' a new Preset. I have tried to overwrite the default ones, but no go, and also saved as a new Preset, but it still doesn't come up as the default selection next time I go in to print.
Sounds easy enough to cope with I know, but I've set it up for a 84 year old to print from and I don't expect she'll manage to do this change every time.

  • Why is default scan in Adobe Acrobat 9.3.1 legal size

I have HP LaserJet with new software. I scan directly from Adobe Acrobat 9.3.1 (Windows 7, 64 bit). The only scanner I can find in dropdown is WIA. I do not see the twain driver - even though I can scan with twain driver in the HP scanning application. The problem i am experiencing is that when I scan directly from Acrobat (using the only dropdown available - WIA - ) the scan is "legal size" and not "letter size." The only option for paper size is to select paper size automatically.
I would very much like to be able to scan directly from Acrobat and have letter size documents appear as letter size documents. Please help.

Try this, it worked for me in Acrobat v.8
    Start an Acrobat scan.
In "Acrobat Scan" window select "Scanner Options"
In "Scanner Options" window select "User interface: Show Scanner's Native Interface"
Click OK on "Scanner Options" window
Click Scan on "Acrobat Scan" window
Next you will be asked to save the PDF file. After this a window should open that gives you an option to select paper size and document type.
I found locations in my HP Printer/Scanner to set paper size but I don't think the information is passed from the printer to Acrobat. I suspect it is an HP problem but they are total dolts about doing anything but pointing the fingure at Adobe.
Hope this works for you. It is very cumbersome but it yields the right results.

  • HT3669 My Epson Perfection 1200 scanner functions as a flatbed scanner but when I try to scan transparencies the control panels change in  Image Capture but the scanner bar will not complete the overview scan  & cannot travel beyond the first 2/3 centimet

Epson Perfection 1200 scanner continues to function as a flatbed scanner but when I try to scan transparencies/film negs the control panels change in  Image Capture but the scanner bar will not complete the overview scan  & cannot travel beyond the first 2/3 centimeters. All the communications seem to recognise the scanner and the mode for the intended scan but the necessary overview scan is not completed, nothing comes up on the Image Capture scan window. If I unplug the film adaptor I can get a document scan. When I plug in the adaptor again the Image Capture details change which allows me to select the type of scan required but when the scanner attempts an overview scan it is unable to complete it.
I have had the scanner from new (12 Years) and have previously scanned slides and film with the adaptor but maybe this was before I upgraded my computer (imac 27").
Do I have to buy a new scanner?  It seems so close to working correctly.
I have downloaded the Epson recommended driver (5.4) and have Epson Perfection 1200 6.6 Universal showing in the Applications List.
Any thoughts or observations would be much appreciated before I go out and spend money an new hardware.
    Thanks

I have same issue - have you solved this yet?

  • I am trying to scan a legal size document from my Canon printer onto my MacBookPro. It scans the document as a letter size.

I am having trouble scanning a legal size document from my Canon printer onto my MacBookPro. I have set the printer paper size option to legal size on my printer. The scanned document comes through as a letter size document after scanning. I do not see an option in iPhoto to change the paper size.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks.

Experience has taught me that it pays to be very precise and specific when dealing with computers. Precisely and specifically, what you describe is impossible. It is impossible to scan a document (of any size) with a printer.
I surmise that you are using an all-in-one, ie, an apparatus which combines a printer, a scanner, and sometimes a fax machine, in the same device. That takes us to the next step -- the page size set for printing is used for printing -- it has nothing to do with scanning. It may be possible that Canon provides software which synchronises page sizes used for printing and for scanning, but we don't know what applications and drivers you are using…
