    In addition to specific devices your options are:-
    Any Firewire DV output (6 pin to 6pin) Camcorder
    Any Firewire Web cam
    Any USB cam that has Mac drivers and this Utility http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
    The chances are that any USB cam is going to have Windows drivers (if you need them for a Intel)

  • Recommendations for webcam under $50?

    Looking to purchase a webcam to go with my 2011 mac mini, any recommendations for under $50?

      Any suggestions?Consider video monitoring equipment like that available from most home centers and electronics department stores.
    Baby monitoring gear may be even lower cost if you can tolerate the pink and blue paint with teddy bear pictures. Perhaps you could build the equipment in, paint it, or cover it with something less obtrusive if the appearance is a problem?

    Probably the best is an Apple iSight (no longer being made, used ones about $50)

  • Recommendation for Webcam

    Can anyone recommend any good webcams to use.
    Ive been looking at the iSight but i'm not 100% sure at the moment on buying this.
    What webcams do other people use for talking with friends online?
    Cheers.
    John.

    While there are many options available, I'd highly recommend the iSight. The quality and features outperform any camera that I've ever used on a PC. (I switched to the Mac in November of last year)
    The quality and clarity, along with the built in Autofocus and microphone is a real advantage over some of the camera's available.
    I've used a number of the logitech cameras on the PC end and none of them compare to the iSight.
    If you do choose something other than the iSight, keep in mind you MAY need a 3rd party application to meet compatibility requirements on your mac. (They range from $10 to $30)
    Don't forget, if you or your family members are in school, you may qualify for the education discount and save $20 off the cost of the iSight bringing it down to $129.
    Good luck on your choice!

  • Recommend Webcam

    Can anyone recommend a webcam that produces a picutre as good as, or close to, the iSight, but does not carry the high price tag?
    PowerBook G4 1.25Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    ... picutre as good as, or close to, the iSight, but does not carry the high price tag?With your criteria, I would suggest looking for a used DV camcorder. If you can find one whose tape mechanism does not work, you may find a real bargain. Unless the optics or electronics is damaged, you should get a good picture even if the tape transport or heads are damaged.
    For more info on your choices, see iSight versus DV Camcorder or other web-cam.
    Take your PowerBook along. When you find a camera, try any of the tests that apply from the list suggested in How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional before you buy. You will not likely get return privileges with a used camcorder.

  • Logitech Quickcam Vision Pro as a Flash webcam?

    I need a webcam for my Mac Pro. I'm currently running Leopard but plan to upgrade to Snow Leopard soon. I'm looking at the Logitech Quickcam Vision Pro, but I've read reviews that say it works well in applications like iChat and Skype, but isn't recognized as a webcam by Adobe Flash Player for use on Flash chat websites like tinychat.com and stickam.com. I really need a webcam that is recognized and compatible with Flash Player.
    Can anyone with a Logitech Quickcam Vision Pro confirm whether it works through Flash player on sites like tinychat or stickam? If not, can anyone recommend a webcam that works well on a Mac for Flash-driven sites like these?

    Here is the list :

    Question
    In order to use a a webcam on your Mac OS X computer, your Logitech camera must be UVC (Universal Video Class) compliant. These standard UVC drivers are provided by the operating system and will provide minimal camera support only. This allows your webcam to operate on your Mac using third party Instant Messenging applications such as Yahoo IM and MSN. There is no support for other applications such as iMovie or Final Cut Pro.
    Currently, Logitech does not provide additional webcam software drivers for Macintosh to allow advanced features such as RightLight, RightSound or Video Effects.

  • What external webcam should I get for Facetime?

    I've just turned my laptop into a desktop with a Henge Dock and I just realized that I killed my webcam.  Can someone recommend a webcam for Facetime?  Cheap would be fine, I will really only be using this for internet video chat, not high quality over LAN.

  • What webcam software is available?

    I got my webcam on my T61 widescreen working just fine but there appears to be no webcam management software - just the driver.  That said, can anyone recommend a webcam software similar to logitech's various applications that lets me record video and the like?

  • What webcam?

    Can anyone recommend a webcam for me to use? I'm a bit worried about it clashing with the iphone sync as I've heard a lot of bad stories about blue screen of death when syncing if you have a logitech webcam.
    I'll be using the webcam for skype & msn messenger.

    If you have a fast internet connection you could try the new Microsoft HD Webcam

  • How to limit CPU usage on webcam stream handling?

    Hi, I am working on a robotics project where I use Java and JMF for image processing which is passed through JNI to OpenCV. My project pages are at: http://robot.lonningdal.net
    I am having problems with performance - the VIA CN13000 board is not exactly a racer, but a good and cheap alternative for robotics projects. The two main CPU consumers are speech recognition and webcamera stream handling.
    After some profiling I see that 50% the CPU is busy just decoding the stream where I discard almost all the pictures because my robot really only needs 1 frame per second to operate. I have looked up the JMF samples and found that you could adjust the framerate, but this doesnt work on my Logitech Pro 4000. If I could only limit the amount of pictures the webcamera sent down the stream I would free quite a lot of CPU resources.
    So my questions are, can anyone recommend a webcamera that does allow me to set this framerate through JMF to limit the actual stream from the camera? (important not to confuse this with adjusting visual framerate which actually just discards pictures). Or is there an alternative API I can use to grab single images if webcameras support this feature? Its important that this doesnt have a lot of overhead processing required per picture but that I can e.g. do a getImage() call to the API and it gets the image immediately.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi John,
    I saw your update to my original thread in
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=570463&start=0&tstart=0
    I'm always glad to hear people using the code :-)
    You can set the framerate of that JMF captures the video stream, in the VideoFormat object.
    I've had some success with this approach before.
    So, assuming you still kept the setFormat() method from my code, here's a simple hard coded modification, where you set the framerate in the code.
    Ps. just curious, whereabouts you are in the world ?
    regards,
    Owen
    public void setFormat ( VideoFormat selectedFormat )
            if ( formatControl != null )
                player.stop();
                currentFormat = selectedFormat;
    replace with
    public void setFormat ( VideoFormat selectedFormat )
            float frameRate = 2.0f;   // 2 frames per second, alter as you wish
            if ( formatControl != null )
                player.stop();
               VideoFormat selectedFormatPlusFrameRate = new VideoFormat(selectedFormat.getEncoding(),
                                                    selectedFormat.getSize(),
                                                    selectedFormat.getMaxDataLength(),
                                                    selectedFormat.getDataType(),
                                                    frameRate);
                currentFormat = selectedFormatPlusFrameRate;Edited posted code, had commented out player.stop(), but you really do need that.

  • Is there any webcam could capture video @30fps?

    I try logitech Pro 9000 & imac isight
    with AS3 coded video capture & check with netStream.currentFPS
    no matter how small is the resolution & how high of framerate setMode
    It is always around 15fps (windows & mac)
    Please recommend a webcam could work with flash @30fps ...

    finally, i brought a nightmare webcam - logitech C920.
    with AS3 (the hardware H264 never work)
    1920 x 1080 : no show
    1280 x 720 : no show
    1024 x 576 : 15 fps
    800 x 450 : 30fps with wrong aspect ratio
    720 x 405 : 30fps with wrong aspect ratio
    640 x 360 : 30fps with wrong aspect ratio
    totally regret
