Recommend academic education to excel in my career

Hello VMware experts,
I've been working with VMware and Virtualization platforms since 6 years and i pursued my masters degree in computational intelligence.
I really want to study for some time to learn something interesting and enhance my professional profile.
What i'm looking for is an academic education that would allow me to take practical training afterwards or part time during my study.
Preferred location USA, preferred area of study: virtualization, cloud computing, openstack...
Let me know if you would recommend pursuing an MBA instead of a technical track, all suggestions are most welcome.
This is my linkedin account:
https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=82049263&trk=nav_responsive_tab_profile
I'll soon be adding two more certificates to it: VCP-cloud & RHCSA.
I'm sure you can advice me on that, looking forward

Welcome to the Community - From an Academic stand point it will depend on the College/University whether they are offering specific curriculum on cloud/virtualization it will be part of a computer engineering degree -
An MBA would be beneficial if you want to move into the management/business side and away form the technology -
The question is how quickly you want to get in the workforce - ultimately it is hands on experience that will keep you gainfully employed and enhance your professional skills - so the choice I see you have right now is to continue academic work or start gaining hands on experience -
I have also moved this to a more appropriate forum

Can anyone recommended an app for excel spreadsheet. One that I can username iPad that can do the same functions as excel of desktop,or laptop ??

Thanks for the advice. Just don't want to waste money on apps trying to get the right on. Not looking to do too much, just add filters maybe create a pie chart. Will the app you mentioned give added sums at the end of the spreadsheet like it would on the windows version?

  • Touch ID recommended for education?

Are Apple devices with Touch ID recommended for education? FERPA (privacy act for parents) protects students from having their records mishandled. Where does biometric information get stored?

I'm having a hard time convincing central office that the biometrics is not stored in the cloud since there isn't enough official data to refute that. Only report of their patent requests. The standard in education is high so unless I can disable it completely with apple configurator then we will not be able to purchase them.

  • Upgrade to CS4 from Academic/Education CS2?

Can I upgrade to a regular CS4 Web premium from an academic CS2?
    Thanks,

Yes, moving from CS2 to CS4 is a major step, especially since you're using an unsupported operating system. Each application has had many new features and enhancements added them.
You can check out my favorites for InDesign here: http://theindesignguy.com/cs4-thoughts.shtml
And those are just from CS3. Dreamweaver has CS4 has some terrific new features such as the code navigator, live view, live code.
As for pricing, you'll need to check locally. I believe Adobe has non-profit pricing and definitely offers steep discounts to students and teachers.

  • Using Excel with Visual C++ 6.0 (need a graph control that behaves as much like the one in CVI as possible)

I hate to beat this to death but I was unable to find a
clear answer to this question.  Does NI provide Excel control from within
    Visual C++ 6.0?
I read that NI supports the ANSI-C library only for Visual C++ 6.0 users:
Thread : "Re: Benifits of using measurment
    studio for VC++ 6.0?"
    NI REP : drohacek
Quote  : "we made the decision to support Visual
C++ 6.0 users only through the ANSI-C interface and not through the Measurement
    Studio MFC-based class libraries."
If there is a suggested way of controlling Excel from within Measurement Studio
for Visual C++ 6.0 then I’d love to know it.
If not, can a plain statement be made basically stating that if you want
to control Excel you can’t use a Visual C++ 6.0 environment even with Measurement
    Studio support?
With .NET of course you can just decide to have Excel support added during
project creation.  CVI can act as an ActiveX server and easily control
Excel just by building off the examples shipped with CVI.  I see that
there is support, using the Measurement Studio for Visual C++ 6.0 Project Wizard,
for taking existing CVI projects and converting them to Visual C++ 6.0 projects
or for calling CVI libraries from a .dll from within Visual C++ 6.0.  I suppose I could do the work
in CVI and then convert the project but I'm so deeply tied into all my MFC calls that I don't see
how I can cleanly include the CVI libraries into my existing VC++ 6.0 projects.
What I'm really after here is a visual graph control like the one in CVI that I
can use from Visual C++ 6.0.  I purchased a 3rd party graph control for use
in VC++ 6.0 that works well but isn't really visual.  I mean you can't
enter any values in it until you run the program and fill it out programmatically.
Then you can see which columns are two narrow, quit the program, adjust the
column width of your now empty control, and repeat, until you get the thing
looking the way you want.  If I could call into Excel from within Visual
C++ 6.0  the way I do from within .NET
then I could use Excel to hold the table and just read in the values into my table
control at run time.  Basically I'd use Excel as a visual development tool
    for all my tables.
I do all my coding from within CVI and Measurement Studio for Visual C++
6.0.  I'd use CVI for everything if I didn't depend so heavily on certain
outside controlled C++ .dll's.  Could you please suggest then what I can
do to get Excel support for Visual C++ 6.0?
    Last question :
Is there any plan to ever have a NI table control like the CVI table control for
use in Visual Studio?  One that you can
completely set up before you do any compiling?
I imagine that the way Microsoft sets up their environment makes this idea impossible.  Otherwise someone would
have come up with a truly “visual” table control before now.
    Thanks,

    Hello Grant
You can most certainly use Excel with VC++ 6.0. Measurement Studio won't provided you with any classes to talk to Excel in VC++ 6.0. This is because Excel allows control via Automation and you can use its automation API to do anything you need with Excel. This is what CVI uses as well.
You can see this MSDN article on how to set this up. This mentions VC.NET, but it should work the same way.
Here is one that talks about VC 6.0 and Excel.
Here is a code project article about this.
Even with .NET, you have to do thru the Excel Automation support. Excel started shipping with Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA) which are .NET wrappers about the Excel Automation object model. C++ Automation is definetely not as nice as .NET, BTW
See this document for more information about the Excel object model.
I would not recommend using the CVI Excel libraries if all you want to use them for is Excel automation. You will end up creating un-necessary dependencies and go through extra layers that way. You can make calls straight to Excel from VC++ without requiring CVI.
One quick observation about your excel approach. If you decide to use Excel as your table, you might be requiring everyone who uses your application to have Excel installed on their machines. Just wanted to make sure this was acceptable to you.
Have you looked at the Datagrid Activex control, which is one of the common controls that ships with Visual Studio? You can add it to Visual Studio by right-clicking and picking it from the list of installed activex control. If you have not already, you should check it out.
Microsoft has made significant improvements in the number of controls they provide with .NET. They have a Datagrid control that seems to be what you need.
Measurement Studio did add some high level classes for Excel and Word Automation that simplify some common tasks, but these exists for VS 2003 C++ and VS 2005 C++, not for VC 6.0. Underneath, we end up using the same Excel automation classes, so you can easily setup something similar for VC 6.0. Plus you can find alot of references online on how to use the Excel Automation object model with C++.
We currently have no plans in Measurement Studio to create a table control unfortunately. I am assuming when you said graph, you actually meant table, since Measurement Studio already  provides a ActiveX graph controls for VC++ 6.0 that is very similar to the CVI graph.
On a side note, VC++ 6.0 is really really old. Have you considered upgrading?
    To summarize
    - Yes, you can use Excel with Vc++ 6.0 without mstudio.
    - Try using the Datagrid Activex control if you just need a table.
    - Measurement Studio provides high-level excel and word classes for VC++ 6.0
    - Measurement Studio provides a graph control for VC++ 6.0 which is very similar to the CVI graph.
    - Measuremnt Studio does not have a table control.
    - VC++ 6.0 is really really old. Have you considered upgrading?

  • Sending report output to Excel

    Dear buddies
I'm using OLE Object in my report to send its output to excel. I find this way from an example at the same forum. But I feel that this example is for very small sized reports which have to send a few cells to excel because in this method we've to map each boiler plate and data field to excel like this.
    function B_DEPTNOFormatTrigger return boolean is
    begin
    RPT2XLS.put_cell(1, 'DEPTNO', FontColor => 10, FontSize => 8, FontStyle => RPT2XLS.BOLD);
    RPT2XLS.new_line;
    return (TRUE);
    end;
In this way its very hard to map large reports to excel which have more than 50 or 60 data fields and labels. So is there any short way to send its output to excel. Be careful that I also dont wanna use Delimited option coz Delimited file has also to be formatted while importing to Excel. Is there anyway that OLE Object should automatically detect all my Report Labels and fields or some other solution in yours minds???

If you are using 10g reports you can use the latest parameter desformat=spreadsheet

  • How to read excel binary file in ABAP application server

    Hi Gurus,
I have to read business partner data from the binary format of an excel file in application server. I searched in forums but only found solutions about using ole2 objects, but in ABAP application server there is no excel APIs, so I have to read binary directly. You know it is rather difficult, do you have any clues or sample function modules? Thanks!
    Best regards,
    Hao

    Hi Deng,
I think there are two possible solutions:
    1. Get the file created as tab-delimited or CSV as recommended earlier
    2. Excel files are BIFF (Binary Interchange File Format). The Microsoft office 97 developer kit has tools for analysis and access. You may search for existing interface software or create your own ABAP code. Publish it on SDN and win great merits.

  • Naming of Excel sheets or tab in SSRS

I am making a report in SSRS that will be exported to Excel. It displays data from all departments in organization.
The first sheet of the report will have a static name for e.g. "Master Report" and it will display data of all departments in single sheet.
Other sheets will have dynamic name depending on department and will display data of that particular department.
So it will become something like as shown in picture below.
I have already made the Master Report and now I want to display those individual department reports but problem is how do I name those sheets? Both these reports will use different data set. If I set the **InitialPageName** property of report to "Master
Report" then it sets this name for all sheets. If I use an expression for e.g. **=First(Fields!Dept_Title.Value, "ALL_DEPARTMENTS")** then it picks up first department name and then use it for all sheets because as I told above, there are two
    different data sets.
Using subreport is of no help either because it doesn't show subreports InitialPageName as Excel sheet name and always uses Main reports name.
    How to solve this issue?

How did you implement the individual department reports?  Do they all have the same layout?  If yes then you can just group the tablix on the Department label field and use that field in the expression for InitialPageName.
Have a read through following article, it's using that technique: Naming Excel Sheets Dynamically
    [SSRS]
For a more complicated layout you could nest a subreport inside the tablix.  But complicated
layouts usually don't export well to Excel (I mean in a practical way for further analysis by using Excel) so be careful with that...

  • CRTL + S in Excel 2010 causes the icon in the Taskbar to move to the end.

CRTL + S in Excel 2010 causes the icon in the Taskbar to move to the end. If I just use File > Save or the Save icon in the Quick Access toolbar it doesn't cause the icon to move in the Taskbar. This is a recently change in behavior. Has anyone
else experienced this and know how to make it stop moving?

    Hi,
From your description, I actually understand your issue clarity. Thus, I assume your scenario, please see the below image:
Do you mean that the Excel icon would move to the end in Windows Taskbar when you pressed Crtl+S?
If it's correct, the issue might be caused by the keyboard shortcut conflict between Excel and some third-program. I recommend we perform the Excel with
Windows clean boot. And check if the issue still occurs.
If this issue not occurs with Clean boot, please check the third-party programs one by one.
If I misunderstanding something, please feel free let us know. I'll appreciate for uploading some screenshots here.

  • OFFICE_CONTROL Excel embedded

    Hi,
I am trying to program embedded Excel on the WebDynpro ABAP window.
I programmed it as in an example, but the result is that a square with "X" sign occurs
and nothing more - in Internet Explorer. In Firefox I install unsigned certificate as an exception,
but Excel is not shown either, just a black square.
What should I check first to get it working?

    Hi Antoine,
    >> The best approach for me is to use the Restfull API for Excel that will permit me to manipulate range, cells, worksheet within my application.
I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly. But if you want to manipulate the Excel document only, I will suggest you using OpenXML SDK, especially for the server side automation.

For the Office desktop side automation, I recommend you using the Excel Object Model (Office Interop).
    Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel namespace
    Hope it will help.

  • Career in SAP with no proir experience in ERP

    Hello everybody,
I am BS(Computer science) with 2 years of software development experience in J2EE. Although I do not have any experience with ERP or CRM or Supply Chain Management but whenever I heard people talking about ERP & CRM I really get excited.
So I have decided to move my career towards SAP. Furthermore, I am in Pakistan & Siemens offers some SAP certifications which are :
    <a href="http://www.siemens.com/index.jsp?sdc_p=c135fi1175331lmno1397033pst15uz3&sdc_sid=8060024212&">http://www.siemens.com/index.jsp?sdc_p=c135fi1175331lmno1397033pst15uz3&sdc_sid=8060024212&</a>
After some initial research I found out that SAP in Pakistan is adopted by Manufacturing industry therefore I believe that Siemens Pakistan would be good in ERP- SD training than any other SAP CRM or anything like that.
What do you recommend that how do I start my career in SAP? Either as functional i.e.ERP-SD or technical i.e. Netweaver or ABAP.
    Waiting for your helpful answers.
    Regards,
    Hashir Ahmed

    Many thanks Sai & Vinay.
Yes my experience is with J2EE but I'm ready to let go that.
Furthermore, I am more interested in functional role besides that I am not impatient nor looking for an easy route, Netweaver would be easier for me but do you see some one like me obtaining a good position in ERP-SD with on job training(after certification)?
Furthermore, what is exactly the role of person with Netweaver knowledge? Can I move from Netweaver to functional role if I even start from Netweaver & doing so would benefit me?
    Regards,
    Hashir Ahmed

  • How to repair excel file?

I have a corrupted excel file, in the sense , when I try to open my excel file, it says it is corrupted and the file has some Unsupported data and if I proceed to open, it says the Unsupported data cannot be repaired or removed. Function Open and Repair
doesn't help me. I'm using MS Excel 2013 on Windows 7 Ultimate.

    Have a look here:
    http://www.excelrepairtoolbox.com/
Still facing same problem then I will recommend you to try Excel Repair Toolbox
The following steps might help recover your file:
    1. Click the File menu
    2. Click Open
    3. Locate the file, but do not click the Open button.  Instead, click the drop-down arrow next to the Open button.
    4. Click "Open and Repair"
    5. In the dialog that pops up, choose "Repair".  If that does not work, try the "Extract Data".
    6. Let us know if this works.  If not, we will see what else we can come up with for you.
    Thanks
