  • Please recommend a good sleeve for the pismo

    Hi,
Can any of you loving pismo owners please recommend a good sleeve for our beloved pismos. I'm looking for one that would fit the pismo pretty much like a glove, so it won't slide and then I can put the pismo in an another bag.
Thanks so much for your suggestions!

I bought a perfect sleeve for mine from Timbuktu. This was a few years ago and I'm not sure they carry it anymore (look on eBay?). I see that the manufacturer makes other sleeves that look nice, too, now. Mine fits the laptop like a glove. It's open at the top with two cloth-padded handles and a strap that snaps into place over the middle of the opening. The padding is nice and thick -- about 1/2." I lugged it in my backpack all around Europe for a summer and it came through just fine.

  • Please recommend a good tutorial for Regular expressions?

I have several PERL programs that I need to translate in to JAVA for performance reasons. Those programs heavily use Regular Expressions. I have an excellent knowledge about PERL Regular Expressions but know very little about Java Regular Expressions.
So Can any one of you recommend me a good tutorial for Java Regular Expressions.
    Thankx In Advance

Since you know regexs, the java.util.regex.Pattern class API is probably all you need, it pretty thoroughly documents Java's flavor, and the differences from PERL's flavor.

  • Can anyone recommend a good app for designing and printing labels?

I have just switched from pc to mac and have pages on my macbook but it does not have a label function (please apple sort this out its the only major flaw!) so can anyone recommend a good app that will do what a pc does? I do not really want to pay £85+ for office for mac just for the word program

One way to find an app at the App Store is to use keywords.
Type   print labels   in the search field top right corner of the App Store window then press Enter or Return on your keyboard.
Click one of the apps listed. Always check Requirements under Information and definitely read customer reviews before purchasing and make sure there is a support link available in case you need to contact the app developer for questions.
This forum is mainly for troubleshooting the App Store.
For feedback for software designed for printing labels, try posting your topic in the Mac OS X community here.

  • Can anyone recommend some good headphones for iPhone?

I know because of the recessed headphone jack not all headphones will work. Just for music playing, what's a good pair for around $100-$150? Thanks for any help!

I recently bought a pair of Sleek Audio SA1 headphones for $80 and like them extremely well. They sound far better (to me anyway) than my much more expensive Shure buds. Sleek has other models and they also have a wireless option that I haven't gotten yet, but intend to.

  • Anyone recommend good earphones for iPhone? I've been using the stock only~

I'm not sure how many of you were re-energized into music again by getting an iPhone, but boy I've gotten the bug bad and have donated quite a bit to the iTunes library getting great songs one tune by one tune.
The problem for me: I can't seem to fine decent earphones that are as functional as the stock ones included.
I got the Belkin 12-inch 3.5 mm adapter (I kid of course but the thing is ridiculously huge...I feel like I'm trying to compensate for something else ;-|) but that thing made me realize that I needed to have the mic/remote control and, more importantly, skip songs from time to time.
I saw some Shure thingee...but I feel like I'd have to kick my own arse if I spent 40 bucks on it. And I don't see other products with good reviews that garner attention.
So, please let me know what you're using and recommend? And hopefully not too pricey as the wife is very strict on any more funds spent on my "gadget"~
Oh, and one other note: AT&T staff at my local store in Stockton, CA were NOT helpful in finding something. One clerk actually recommended the Southwing Bluetooth wireless, saying he had it and it would work with my iPhone without issue. I had to resist the urge to slap him when I came back after work to return the useless thing.
What is the deal with iPhone and wireless headphones anyway? Can't they make something small, with a remote...I'd pay decent money for something like that! Or rather, I'd suffer a fight with the wife to pay decent money for that. ^_^

I was reading about these, that enhance the Iphone buds...

About the wife, you're on your own. :P 20$ isn't too much though-- also try to find reviews for it online as I have not used them yet.
Sorry for slow reply I meant to post this like 10 mins ago.

  • Recommend a good bag for a 15" Mac Book Pro

I wasn't quite sure where to post this question...
I will be getting the 15" MacBook Pro very soon, and would like to get a bag for it. Can anyone recommend a REALLY good laptop bag? I am not looking for a backpack. I would like to get a messenger type bag, but nothing too huge, just something larger enough for the computer and a notebook or two. Or maybe a sling type bag.
    Thanks

I'm enjoying very much my 15" laptop bag/portable desk from Higher Ground.
I find this bag useful since you need not remove your laptop to use it. Your MBP sits up on rubber feet to allow air to pass underneath it and the bottom of the bag is reinforced and stiff so you could situate it on your lap or on any desk. Simply, unzip the case and open it as if you were opening the lid on your MBP. It has sufficient padding and velcro straps to firmly anchor your MBP.
There is one large external pocket and a series of internal pockets for CD's. It's not overly roomy for extra gear, but you can get your adapter stowed and several file folders. It can be carried by shoulder strap or simply like a briefcase.

  • Anyone recommends a good book for object oriented programming

I am a college student in computer engineering (Software) and have been programming using Java for over a year. I have become really interested in the design of softwares and the "beauty" of object oriented programming, and thus would like to advance my knowledge about the topic (my university offers an advanced oop class but I would have to wait another 6 months to take it). So my question is, could you recommend me any book that covers the subject of object oriented programming extensively? (I have learned most of the oop I know from "An Introduction to Programming and Object Oriented Design Using Java" by Nino and Hosch.
    Thanks in advance

Some years ago I remember cutting my teeth on OOP using an excellent book by Grady Booch. If it's still in print and has been updated, it may be worth a look. Again it was decent. Also consider picking up a book on design patterns. Good luck.
Edit: I found it, it's called "Object-Oriented Analysis and Design with Applications", and it's in its third edition. You can find it here on Amazon.

  • Strongly recommend  a good book for the java web programmer

book name: java for the web with servlets, jsp and EJB
    publisher : New Riders
very suitable for beginners ~~~like me 0_O~~~~

    Hello guys,
Glad to hear you guys pursuing certification. Upon finishing both books, I still felt like I needed to prepare in some other means. That was when I started taking practice exams online. Those helped a LOT! (I took around 10 exams) They really test you if you know the material... Here are a few links which might be of some help:

  • Can anyone recommend a good paperback for beginners Logic Pro 9?

    Hi guys,
This question has probably been asked countless times, however...
Just purchased Logic Pro 9 and wouldn't mind getting a paperback tect book that will take me through the ins and outs.
I've jumped on Amazon and had a look but thought Id get a recommendation from the community before purchasing.
My interests are in electronic music production if that helps.
    Cheers!!

I never looked into the user manual (sorry for not being very helpful) but if you dont use it you wont learn it. Your best bet is to find what type of music your looking to create... and then search on youtube. That is how i learnt and i am now a whiz. http://www.youtube.com/user/SFLogicNinja - this guy has videos for every plug in and every synth and even more which is really helpful and it is also free.

  • Anyone recommend a good tutorial for 'working with video' in Logic?

I've worked with video a fair amount, but only ever skimmed the surface and found odd workarounds to get things to happen how I want them.
The manual is scant when it comes to features such as SMPTE locking and beat mapping scenes to bar lengths and all sorts of other tricks I'm probably unaware of.
The only Macprovideo I can find is from 2005 and whilst I'm sure has some common features, is perhaps not up to date enough. And this http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul07/articles/logictech_0707.htm is ok for a quick overview but I'd like to see some of it in action (or at least have more detailed exercises).
Does anyone know any tutorials they'd recommend? Cheers
