Recommendation for newby - Multiple videos

Hey Folks,
Rather than ask a question with a mindset, I'm going to stay open minded to suggestions as I have not put much together at this point; other than mp4 video clips.
I am designing an mLearning course for mid to high level bandwidth.
I have 10 short video clips that demonstrate specific tools.  Ideally, I'd like to have them all accessible on a single slide for learners to choose which one to interact with before continuing to the next slide; however, I am not necessarily stuck on this mindset.
I'd like the videos to take up as much real estate on the screen as possible once they are activated.  They are mp4 so should stay that way so that html5 will be friends!  The videos will not be streaming from YouTube or internal Media server, but within the Captivate file.  I've read (somewhere) that I can put some sort of script or pre-loader that will begin downloading the videos at the point the Captivate file is launched.  If known, can someone point me in the right direction?  I do not want learners hung up while watching the videos.
Also, the buttons (or links) the user interacts with will have some custom images I've created.
There will be welcome audio on the slide with a brief explanation of what to do with the videos and what we use them for.
Thanks for any help or advice you can give on how to approach this.  I am not a fan of retrofitting things and would just like to create this in a way that makes sense for Captivate.
Thanks,
Tom

Thank you Rod!
I put each video on separate slides, as synchronized across 3 slides (videos are 1-4 minutes each).  Since all learners will not be required to review each video.  They will choose the one that pertains to their individual job. So I decided to do a single image with clickboxes that jump to each video slide.  Do you foresee problems with this?
Also, Does anyone know how Captivate treats video clips?  Do they download them when a user arrives at the slide or do they start to load upon loading the presentation?  I am concerned about bandwidth and downloading so many video clips.  Videos are between 4MB to 15MB (should I shorten them or does synchronizing across 3 slides help)?
Thanks,
Tom

  • What is good practice for playing multiple video's in a single swf?

    Hello,
I have build in the past a video wall with video's inside. After building this i came across some problems.
If you have too many video players loading at once it takes a lot of processing and the tweens in the
page while loading the video's where not moving fluidly, but more in a stuttering way.
After lot's of test i found a good working solution.  I imported the flv video's into flash en exported them on the timeline
as a embedded swf.  Then i externally loaded these swf files and that performed much better.
Is it even good practice to load multiple video instances at once? I used this time the LoaderMax of greensock but the video's
only play after it's completely loaded. I would like to find a way to progressive play all video's at.
Does someone has experience with this?
    Regards,
    Chris.

How about an XML file which supplies the title for each movie and the location or source of the video to be played?  Simple version below.
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    - <playlist>
    <video src="Gfx/video/Alex1.f4v" title="John Deere 330" />
    <video src="Gfx/video/Benni1.f4v" title="Hitachi Z240F" />
    <video src="Gfx/video/Scotti1.f4v" title="Hitachi Z350F" />
    <video src="Gfx/video/Scotti2.f4v" title="Hitachi Z350F" />
    </playlist>

  • For encode multiple videos do l need multiple sources?

I would like to encode more than one video from the same source, but if l am able to use a software to create multiple virtual sources, can l encode multiple videos at the same time on the same computer, or do l need more than one??

Sorry Alp, I should of tested but then I would just got angry with smart view : )
It does say in the docs - "*You can select one cell or a range of contiguous cells in a row or column*"
Strange thing is the OP has already been provided the link that says that but still insists on asking three questions around the same subject

  • Which CC program do you recommend for viewing & organizing videos?

Quick Background:  I have over a TB of family video clips.  Some are my own, some are old transferred family films from as early as the 60's, and others are video clips taken at reunions and weddings by family members who have chosen me to make something of them. I've done photography for years and use Lightroom & Photoshop.  Now with my CC account I've been teaching myself how to use Premiere Pro so I can begin working on this family project.
My Question:  Im looking for the equivalent of Lightroom for Video.  A program I can use to import my clips, rename, organize, see metadata, view, maybe do minor editing & trimming, rate/flag, and (maybe most importantly) allow some type of keyword tagging.  Then open in Premiere Pro for more extensive editing.  It would be great if, like Lightroom, the finished project could then be exported into the finished formats I need.
What I've tried:  I understand Lightroom can import video, I tried this with a sample of clips but found LR pretty limited for working with videos (which makes sense).  There are a lot of CC programs that I do not know the function of.  I've been reading a little about Prelude, but I can't find a recent tutorial on Lynda.com; I tried searching "Adobe Prelude" but that only turned up Prelude CS6 Workshops from April of 2012?  This makes me wonder if the Prelude program isn't very popular since tutorials of its updated version aren't available or in high demand? (Searches on Lynda.com for "Adobe Prelude CC 2014" found nothing).
So this is where I thought the Adobe Community would be a great resource.  What are the "video people" out there using?  And what should I stay away from?  I so appreciate anyone who can take time to share their expertise and help me begin this project on the right foot.

The issue of changing native folder hierarchy and/or naming conventions has little to do with solid state media and everything to do with the container and header data that links the audio/video streams with the metadata and thus allows the content or "media essence" to be properly decoded and played.  This is the very reason to use a tool like Prelude or Premiere's Media Browser or even Bridge or Lightroom or a third party logging tool like metafuze or shotputpro, or dedicated camera format software such as sony xdcam clipbrowser or panasonic p2 browser, redcine x, ect, as these tools all are designed to parse the captured A/V data and make properly syntaxed edits to the metadata either embedded directly into the media container or in Prelude and Premiere's case can also be written back to a sidecar or associated XMP file, which is a flavor of XML that contains all the original captured metadata plus any changes and/or additions made via these tools.
The dangers come into play when changes to the native file naming convention or folder hierarchy are done directly to the media content via finder on mac or explorer on windows, as changing at that level can break the relationship between the metadata stream and the media essence since the changes are not being written to the metadata or content headers or being handled in a manner referred to as transmuxing..
Prelude & Premiere's Media Browser both allow for looking into the native files non-destructively and safely modifying either the metadata linked to the native media or also allows for a transcode to be done which will then copy or recreate a new media file in whatever format selected along with a new metadata stream.
Prelude is a nice utility and Premiere's Media Browser an amazing tool for organizing, modifying and selectively ingesting media and or making quick selects and assemblies.

  • Any recommendation for  a rooftop video cam?

    Hello!
I'm wondering if anyone here could recommend a video cam to install on a 10 to 15 foot pole on top of my roof. I'm trying to have a view of the beach and ocean across my house. I've done a "quick and dirty" Google search and so far, none look that good. The one's I've seen from a Google search are wireless, which is good, but the image quality may be mediocre. I don't necessarily need to record the images, but would like to be able to scan and zoom if possible. An interface to my computer or to one of the inputs available from a high-definition television monitor are hopefully available options.
    Thanks.

    Hi, Raymon.
Take a look at Ben Bird's Security Spy. This seems to be what you want w.r.t. an computer interface for the camera. Ben may also be able to recommend some cameras to you. He has a little "generic" info about using cameras outdoors here, but I'd suspect he could give you some good camera advice since it could also lead to your buying the software.
    Good luck!

  • Does the video recorder on ipad 4 have a zoom button? If not, what app do you recommend for zooming in video?

Do I need an app to zoom with the video recorder?

    Fraser41,
school work, watching YouTube videos, and listening to music can be done on any MacBook Pro, new or used. Photo editing is the most demanding task on your list (unless you take up video editing, in which case it would be the most demanding); you can edit photos (and even videos) on MacBook Pros without discrete GPUs, but many operations will be done more quickly on MacBook Pros with a discrete GPU than on those with only an integrated GPU. If photography is your main interest, that could point to a Retina screen as a feature which might be high on your list of preferences; but since all Retina models have soldered-in RAM, however much RAM is present a Retina model is the amount which you’ll need to live with for as long as you own it. The Late 2013 models also have SSDs for which no third-party alternative is available, so at the moment their SSDs can be considered non-upgradeable also. Whether the cheaper MacBook Pro will cope with your needs could depend upon how much screen resolution you’d be satisfied with, and where you find yourself on the GPU time-saved vs. money-spent continuum.
Note that the last 17-inch models made were Late 2011 models; if you’re not interested in used MacBook Pros, then their heaviness would be a moot point.

  • Best Option For Playing Multiple Videos

    (CS3 AS2.0)
    Hi,
I'm tweaking a flash website for a freind and he wants to have some videos play from a page. There are 25 files and ideally I want to achieve the 'Lightbox' look so that the browser window dims and the video plays over the top. After looking around I haven't found any easy solutions.
What is the best way to achieve this, bearing in mind I shall have all these buttons on a page and want to have the video 'float' on top of the actual site?
I'm relatively new to this although a long standing flash user when it comes to animation etc - not great on scripting.
If you could point me to a link or help with the terminology I need that would be great. All my video files are FLV and ready to go. Need to know how to link in with the buttons I already have in place.
    Help greatly appreciated!
    K.

Here's a link to what I'm after but the solution is in CS4 with AS 3.o and I'm using the previous versions

  • Recommendations for a C# video framework for displaying/transcoding/webcam capture

    Basically what I need is:
Something that will let me write a C# program where a user can select a video input (typically a webcam or TV tuner card, but possibly a file), then the program will open the device, transcode to a certain format, spit out this data to a stream, which I
can read and either put into a file or send out over a socket or whatever.
At the moment I'm using VLC media player which has a feature that will play a video to a UDP endpoint (my program), which picks up the packets and sticks them together in a buffer. This is fine for the development phase but I can't use this for my final
product, also for displaying the stream I'm doing the same thing...VLC media player. (my program is a networking application which streams live video in case you're wondering).
So basically I need a replacement for VLC media player in the form of a library that can
    1) Read from file/webcam/card and provide me with a transcoded stream
    2) Decode this stream on the other end and display it and play the sound (should also be tolerable to some gaps in the stream)
I know this question has probably been asked a million times before but I'd like to hear people's recommendations

  • Hardware/software recommendation for video capture prior to edit on home ba

i am a FCP user on a G5. i need to begin to load and initially edit video while traveling and then take that FC project file and load it onto my home based G5 for further work. i am considering a macbook and FC express to accomplish this task.
    my questions are:
does it matter that the new macbooks are intel processors and my G5 is not intel based? will i have any compatibility problems with SW/file transfers.
is FC Express the best SW to use for the load and initial edits?
is there a best practice recommendation for what i want to do?
    thank you.
    dennis
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   use FCP HD 5.0.1

FCP will run on a MacBook. It's not support, and the Studio is not supported because of Motion's graphics requirements, but quite a few people are running FCP on basic MacBooks. Just make sure it has enough RAM.

  • How do I copy and paste text style for multiple video tracks?

    hello,
I am creating multiple video tracks with text.  I want to easily copy and paste the style, i.e., Font, Color, Size - rather than having to scroll down the giant list of fonts to find the one I want, then change the color, then change the size - each and every time.  This is arduous.
I tried copy / paste of one text onto a new video track, but when I type in a different word, it alters the original.
I have 9 tracks of video for 9 different texts that will pop in and out of my video.  I would like to be able to copy/paste then just change the text.  This would save me a huge amount of time.

    paulrudophmusic
I know of no way to alphabetized the Adobe Styles that come with the program.
If you had the time and the inclination, you could rename them all to force them to appear alphabetically, but that does not seem all that practical.
But, if your interest is in the Styles that you save and you do not hit the Reset File List, the new Styles will be at the bottom of the list and you can name them so that they appear that alphabetically at the bottom of the whole Styles list. But that does not address the matter of you having to scroll to the bottom of the Styles list.
In some instances, some things that you think that you cannot do in Premiere Elements obvious features, can be done by computer keyboard shortcuts. I check the keyboard shortcuts under the Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization and unfortuately did not find any that would be applicable to this situation.
As for your changes in one text file popping up unwantedly in another text file, that is because you have text files with the same name. Look into creating duplicates (with different file names) in Project Assets at the onset.

  • What are multiple video cards good for?

Yeah, I know it is probably a dorky question but I would certainly like to know the answer before I start pricing my future Mac Pro. What I'm thinking about is online gaming stuff (which I'm just getting into so I'm still a little clueless). My question is:
Are four GeForce 7300 cards better than one X1900 for gaming/graphics?
It sounds like from the other posts that the X1900 is the superior card. Am I reading things correctly?
    Thanks,
    Toast

One advantage of multiple video cards is monitor calibration. When running two monitors off of one card, it's simply not possible to (accurately), calibrate both screens. Altering the video LUT of the card to dial in one monitor will affect the calibration of the other.
On my previous G4 system, I ran two screens from separate cards (two CRTs - different makes and size). With hardware calibration, I was able to get them to match perfectly. On my Mac Pro running the same screens from only one card, I can get them close but not perfect - more importantly, I have to decide which monitor is to be properly calibrated.
Not particularly important for gaming performance but there you go ...

  • Looking for a good Video intro generator. Any recommendation ?

    Hi there,
I am looking for some impressive video intro generator & bump into this:
    http://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/cstore_vshowcase.aspx?id=525&CategoryName =iClone
I bought the iClone4 plus the Motion Montage because I like the part where it will generate the impressive video intro sequence automatically & all I need to do was to drag my pictures & videos into it.
But, when I used it, this software turns out to be very complicated. When I drag a picture into it, it turns dark immediately !! My guess is that I have to adjust the lighting & a whole series of buttons to get the effect. So, this is too cumbersome & too time consuming for me.
I need one that can generate an impressive video intro & all I have to do is to select my pictures & video files.
Any recommendation from experts here ?
    Thanks

I'd never seen any program that could make something like that so easily until I clicked your link! Generally to do that kind of work you need a working knowledge of programs that support editing/modeling in 3D space.
If nobody else can name another product, you might try the "Contact Us" part of their website:
    http://www.reallusion.com/aboutus.asp#contact
Yes, I have tried that, all they did was ask me to see their tutorial & manual & forum. But their forum are mostly on iClone4 and not Motion Montage.
Also, it is too time consuming to learn the iClone4. I bought it because I thought I can produce the impressive video intro by just dragging in my video files & picture files.
It work to a certain extend but the problem is that the very minute I drag my files into it, it becomes very dark & resolution quality drop to a very bad level, unlike what I see on the sales video.
I hope others can recommend me another product.
    Thanks

We will customize a very detailed reply, but
    (a) What are the properties of your source media?
    (b) What did you or the program set as the project preset to match the properties of the source media?
    (c) What specific requirements do you have for this H.264.mov export file?
File size can be a compromise between bitrate, file size, and quality.

  • Best Configuration for Multiple Video Captures

    Hello,
What would be faster and the most efficient for multiple video captures:
    - 9 video feeds written to 3 separate internal hard drives (3 feeds per hard drive)
    - 9 video feeds written to 3 internal hard drives in a combined RAID configuration
    - 9 video feeds written to 9 separate external hard drives via eSATA
I have a Mac Pro 3.06GHz 12-core Intel Xeon machine that will be dedicated to a security camera application (SecuritySpy). The Mac OS and SecuritySpy will be on one hard drive and send the captured video from nine network HD cameras to the other hard drives. The computer, eSATA card, and all the hard drives are 6Gb/s capable. I also have access to SoftRAID for the RAID configuration, as well as an 8-bay eSATA hard drive enclosure if I choose. There are pros and cons for each of the configurations, but I am looking for the most reliable setup in terms of efficiency and longevity.

Just wanted to post the details of my final set up, maybe this will be useful to others looking to do a similar setup:
    1. Connected and set up the external hard drive (I bought a Western Digital My Book Pro Edition II 1TB) via Firewire 800 on iMac #1.
    2. Set up iMac #1 to backup via Time Machine. Even though the other computers will see the drive, apparently they will not recognize it in Time Machine unless you set it up on the computer the drive is connected to first (I tried).
    3. On iMac #2, connect to iMac #1 via file sharing, this is even easier now that you can access any computer on your network under "SHARED" in the sidebar of any finder window.
    4. Double-click the external drive. If you don't see the drive, click "Connect as" in the top right of the window and login. It's not necessary to do this, but if you want to confirm you've connected to the network drive, you can go to Finder -> Preferences -> General and under "Show these items on the Desktop" check the box next to "Connected Servers". This will make an icon for the external drive appear on your desktop.
    5. Turn on Time Machine on iMac #2. Repeat for any other computers you want to back up.
That's it. So far this has worked great for me. Obviously the backups run a little slower on the computers running through file share, but its a small trade-off compared to either manually moving the drive around or getting three separate drives.
