Recommendation on 9.2 upgrade

I'm trying to get a feel for how many people are upgrading to weblogic 9.2 and how many people are waiting.
We are currently using 8.1 in our production environment. We upgraded our portal to Weblogic 9.2 (in test) but we had few issues and are trying to decide if we should go ahead with the upgrade, or wait for a better version.
Our biggest issues were with workshop:
It is a memory hog.
It's very slow and unproductive.
It crashes a lot which also affects productivity.
Also, our portal migration was pretty difficult and took quite a while (even with a BEA resource on site)
So what issues did you run into and are you upgrading now, or waiting? I couldn't find this info in the forums so forgive me if it was discussed before.
Thanks for any Info.
Mike

i would suggest consolidating your library.

  • Windows 7 to 8 upgrade - two recommended actions prior to upgrading

I’ve just updated my T410s to Windows 8 pro from Windows 7 Ultimate. There were two issues during the first, failed, upgrade attempt.
During the first attempt the upgrade failed without a clear indication of what went wrong. After a few tests and a lot of time I determined that it was related to either the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility or the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Bluetooth® Software. A check on the Intel site turned this up:
    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-033854.htm
which says ‘Intel recommends uninstalling all wireless software applications before upgrading to Windows  8’
So my recommendations for additional software to uninstall, in addition to those listed by Lenovo, are:
    (1)    Uninstall the Lenovo autoscroll utility before upgrading as the Win 8 removal process failed.
    (2)    Uninstall the Intel PROset/Wireless components then install the Intel drivers only using the Intel installer available from the Intel site.

Normally, is recommended to uninstall *any* driver before upgrading.
    Cheers.
If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

  • Recommendations for upgrading to snow leopard

Any recommendations/suggestions prior to upgrading from tiger to snow leopard?

As Allan already said, you should have a complete backup - whenever doing a major upgrade, it is recommended that you make sure you have your contents backed up. In case of failure (doesn't necessarily happen, but could.....), at least you haven't lost all your stuff.
So, either get an external hard drive and create a bootable clone (that means you use SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner to copy all the info to the external and it will be bootable so you can boot from that external in case of a major hiccup with your internal drive) or, at the very least, get a smaller drive and copy (simply drag and drop) your own files over.
Run verify disk BEFORE install: Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility; highlight your drive and click on verify disk.
Repair Permissions: do AFTER upgrade: same path; this time click on Repair Permissions.

    Hi traveler!
I am quite happy with my Mushkin CL2 Blue memory. According to the Mushkin website they actually ran compatibility tests with a K7N2 Delta2. I have not had one problem caused by the memory!

  • Best upgrade recommendations

I have a hp g56-129wm with all the original factory part other than a replacement seagate sata 250gb hdd. I replaced the old Windows 7 OS with the Ubuntu 12.04 lst OS because it was free and never gets viruses. I'm looking to upgrade certain parts to increase performance and speed and decrease the drain on the battery and load on the CPU. I'm already going to replace the keyboard, battery and maybe the hdd again Any recommendations on what to upgrade/replace while I'm working on it?

There is a how to with pictures for replacing all components in the manual above. Use it to see how to replace the keyboard as you have mentioned some advice needed for that in the other thread.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite NB10t-A-102

    Hello,
on NB10t-A-102 I want to change the memory and increase in 8GB or 16GB
    Can we make this change?

    Hi
According notebook specification RAM can be upgraded up to 4GB and obviously with 4GB RAM inside it is already on the maximum.
Unfortunately on this forum we don't have much info about this new machine but in the past we have discussed about older models with maximum 1GB RAM but at the end it was possible to upgrade it.
If nobody can help you with this I recommend you to try upgrade with 8GB RAM and check how it works. RAM part number that you should test is PA5104U-1M8G.
    If possible send some feedback.

  • BO XI 3.1 installation and Upgrade activity Steps

    Hi Experts,
Right now we are using BO XI R2 Version, Planning to uninstall XI R2 and do a fresh installation of BO XI 3.1 with SP3.
Do I need to install the Java latest version for XI 3.1? Right now we have the following setting,
             j2re1.4.2_04
             j2re1.4.2_16
             jre1.5.0_14
Since the up gradation of Reports, user, groups, universe events etc are from XI R2 version to XI 3.1.So Is it enough to
install BO XI 3.1 with SP 3, or do I have to go for FixPack inorder to avoid problem after this upgrade activity.
Could you please tell me about the BOXI R2 to XI 3.1 installation and Upgrade activity Steps.
    Regards,
    Sridharan

    Hi,
you dont need a special JRE version on the Server. With the installation of BO a own JRE will be installed for BOE. Only for developing WebI reports the developer need a 1.6.x JRE later on.
There is already FixPack 3.1 out but installing "only" SP3 should be sufficient.
I would recommend you check the upgrade guide from Rel.2 to XI 3.1:

  • How Do I Upgrade My PowerBook G3 Pismo?

(First off, let me just say that this forum has been extremely helpful throughout the years. Thanks to everyone! And, I hope this post (and responses) continues to help those like me in the future!)
I want to upgrade my PowerBook G3 Pismo.
I already have a G4 PowerBook, yet can't tear myself away from my G3 just yet. However, my Pismo needs a huge overhaul. Right now it's running on 192MB of memory, a 6G hard drive, and a 400MHz processor. (I'm running OS 10.3.9, since I don't have enough hard drive space to install 10.4.) (Even most websites have gotten too advanced for my little G3 to view at a reasonable speed.)
Let me also say, I am not a do-it-yourself kinda guy really, so I'm hoping the answers I receive here are easy to follow for the average Joe.
From reading the other posts, I understand the three biggest upgrades to a G3, in order of impact and ease, are:
    1) Memory
    2) Hard Drive
    3) Processor
I would also like to include another relevant element:
    4) Battery Replacement (my battery is completely dead, as you can imagine)
(Another aim for this post is to have one place where people can easily see how to upgrade these things, rather than dig around for each topic.)
Rather than deal with the multitudes of justifications (whether or not I should, etc.), my questions for each of the four items above are simple:
    A) How can I maximize each option? (i.e. - What is the maximum amount of memory I can buy for it? How big of a hard drive can my G3 accommodate and utilize? What is the fastest processor I can use?)
    B) Where is the easiest/best place to purchase each item? (I know that's a bit subjective, but I'm sure there's a general consensus as to where the best, tried-and-true replacement batteries are sold, etc. (At least, I hope so.))
    C) How do I do-it-myself? (i.e. - Is there a specific URL or post that tells me how to physically replace the memory and hard drive, etc.?)
Again, thanks very much to all of you who help out in the posting of answers to all of us who are less technically advanced!

    Hollywood Guy:
You have hit upon a favorite topic around here, as you have already noticed.
The place to begin your upgrade is with RAM. The Pismo will support a total of 1 GB of RAM. 2 - PC 100 3.3v 144-pin SO-DIMM. You will find comparative prices of popular brands at ramseeker. You will also get good prices at Kahlon. The Pismo is not very picky about RAM and most manufacturers warranty their RAM for life.
The next upgrade that will give the biggest bang for the buck is the Hard Disk Drive. As noted previously, your computer will support up to a 120 GB HDD natively. (The BootROM will actually see 128 GB, but most manufactuers standardize the size to 120 GB). It is possible to install a larger HDD with the help of SpeedTools. However, I have not used the product, so I cannot vouch for it. Here is a list of available HDDs available for your Pismo at OWC
In terms of a processor upgrade, this is the most expensive upgrade and unless one really loves the Pismo, it may not be cost effective in the long run. I have done it myself, but then Pismo is my primary computer and I use it constantly and extensively for all my computing needs. Although we Pismo aficionados love our machines, we are also aware of it's limitations. If one would like to run any OS beyond Tiger, for example, you will need a minimum of a G with 867 MB processor, and even with a processor upgrade the Pismo will not make the cut.
So while I recommend the first two upgrades without qualification or reservation, the processor upgrade is different. If you decide that you really want to do it after careful consideration, I suggest that you peruse this thread for a full exploration of the subject. Several vendors are mentioned in the thread. My G4/550 processor upgrade is a Wegenermedia, but I hesistate to recommend them, as, since my installation I have learned of several users who have had difficulty with their service and products.
Please do post back with specific questions on any of the topics mentioned.
    Cheers

  • Problems after upgrading to iTunes version 6

    Hello,
I've been going through the threads a lot since I have had problems after upgrading to iTunes v. 6. It looks like a lot of people have had the same issues, and I have tried some things that were recommended. After I upgraded, iTunes would not open. I tried:
    1. deleting sidb file
    2. doing the msconfig thing suggested in discussion boards
    3. going into safe mode and deleting 4 and 6 letter weird files in DOS - I found 3 that I deleted
iTunes worked after this -- then I bought a song and it said my computer was not authorized, after I authorized computer (that never happened before), iTunes worked for about 15 more minutes and then closed down abruptly. I haven't been able to open it since.
I also downloaded Spybot search & destroy and that did not find anything. I am using McAfee, and have scanned for viruses with McAfee and AdAware.
Now, when I restart my computer, a bunch of windows pop up with Chinese/Japanese looking characters and say that device (I think) was not found. I seem to be able to use everything except iTunes and Quicktime. When I open the Task Manager, iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe and qttask.exe are there, but when I click on Quicktime or iTunes the file flashes in Task Manager and then disappears.
I'm not sure where to go from here.
Any help would be apppreciated -- I'd like to be able to open iTunes!

    Hello,
    I used Nickroo's post:
I was able to get iTunes launched (with the help of Tech Support) in a very unsafe environment. I owe it to those who may need this after me. It will get you going, but you will be extremely vulnerable to internet virus assaults. Please do not use this approach, until you have exhausted every other available solution for your issue in the KB.
There are three Steps 1) Uninstall 2) Disble and 3) Reinstall.
UNISTALL Uninstall iTunes using Windows utility Add Remove Program available in Control Panel.
DISABLE Disable all third party System Services and Startup Items using using MSCONFIG utility as described in Service Document http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    RE-INSTALL Re-install iTunes6 + QT7. Launch it under the Selective Startup Option.
It worked ! You realize among other things at this point you have your Antivirus and Firewall disabled. When I started my computer in the Normal Startup Option, iTunes fails to work again. So I have ahead of me the long and ardous task of ruling out the service that is causing conflict with iTunes6. Then work with the software vendor to arrive at a solution.
This seems to have worked so far- I haven't started to go through ruling out what made iTunes not work; I also haven't tried to connect my iPod or burn a CD, so we'll see.

  • Upgrading multiple applications/clusters from 10.3.5  10.3.6

I am looking for any recommendations/best practices for upgrading a weblogic domain installation which has multiple applications with each application deployed to a cluster. Each application has its own customized startup scripts for starting up the managed servers and it is expected that each application will take time to be upgraded. Therefore the plan is to upgrade each application in a separate maintenance window and the system will be put into production after each maintenance window. As per the weblogic documentation it is ok to have managed servers running on different maintenace releases as long as they are on the same major and minor release (10.3.5 and 10.3.6 in this case). I have already reviewed the upgrade guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e13754/toc.htm. Any additional information would help.
    Edited by: user723056 on May 29, 2012 1:39 PM

The documentation states that WLS supports mixed versions of Maintenance pack level (as long as admin server is at same or higher level than the managed servers) but not mixed versions at the major and minor releases. I assumed that 10 was the major and 3 was the minor release number and that the .5 and .6 was the Maintenance pack level - is that not the case? ..Luc

Go with the upgrade. Buying an external drive as a primary source of storage would defeat the purpose of buying a MBA, or any notebook, in my opinion.

  • Upgrading Struts in JDeveloper 10.1.3.5

    Hi everyone,
Is it even recommended or prudent to upgrade the struts libs in Jdeveloper? 10g ships with struts 1.1, and we're looking at upgrading to 1.3.10 (I've read struts 2 is too much of a jump)...
I've read the following article from Duncan Mills and followed the instructions, but my IDE still ignores my new struts libs.... actually, my existing struts project was no longer compiling.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/mills/struts1_2.html
Any thoughts or ideas on how best to upgrade Struts for the IDE? Or is it better to simply add the required jar files to each project library explicitly?
    Thanks for the info

Bug fixes is the main reason, and other enhancements.
One thing, although trivial to some, was a problem for us... the html action form tag in struts 1.1 was spitting out invalid xhtml code, (invalid attribute), even when setting the <html:xhtml/> tag... big enough deal when trying to validate your pages to xhtml strict and they fail because of an invalid attribute being output that you have no control over.
That is a minor thing, but there were other little enhancements that were nice to have.
As for Struts 2.0... I've also read that it isn't recommended, since it's a totally different product from struts 1.x... and would cause problems in Jdeveloper.

    Hi,
I would never recommend doing an OS upgrade of a domain controller.
    The preffered method is to:
    1. Build a new 2012 R2 Server
    2. Install the Domain Controller role
    3. Promote the server to a domain controller - this will extend the schema of your AD to support 2012 - whilst generally fairly safe to do ensure you have relevant backups in place for your domain / forest
    4. Transfer FSMO roles to your new 2012 DC
You can then go ahead and demote the 2008 DC, rebuild it to 2012, and re-promote it do a DC again. Keep doing this for all your DC's
Also you would need to upgrade your exchange first as Exchange 2003 isn't supported with 2012 domain controllers.

  • [BUG] Upgrade corrupts photo book layouts!

Here's something to add to the plethora of bugs in iLife'11. Whenever I open a photo book that was created with an earlier version, I briefly see the "Upgrading photo book…" message, and after that, all photos are default-zoom and centered at their spots in the book layout!
I have >20 books in my library and a lot of effort went into making their layout just perfect. The problem does not yet appear in iPhoto 8.1.2, I have been experimenting with several "upgrade paths" from iPhoto 7.1.5 to iPhoto 9.0.1 now. It is clearly a problem in iPhoto 9.
When going directly from iPhoto 7 to 9, by the way, you lose all the key photo selections that you have done in your events (>200 for me…), as already reported here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12495859&#12495859
So if any of you are also keeping their photos in nicely layouted photo books, I strongly recommend waiting with the upgrade to iLife'11 until Apple fixes the upgrade process to NOT destroy any data.

Same problem here with all photo books!
iPhoto '11 does in fact display a warning after the update, something like "update successful, but please check before ordering". Well, I checked, and I found all books are corrupted (zoom and offset are wrong as described above).
This dialog however is a pathetic way of dealing with the (apparently known!) problem, Apple!
Even worse, I noticed that TimeMachine backup (inside iPhoto) does not list photo books, so the only way back (after wiping iPhoto 11 from the hard drive and re-installing the previous version) seems to be to replace the whole iPhoto Library manually (I sincerely hope that the photo books are stored in there and not anywhere else - does anyone know for sure?)
There also is no way to export a photo book (apart from non-editable PDF) and to re-import it on another MacOS installation (with an earlier version of iPhoto), is there? So until I find a solution and the time to try it out, I need to keep my pre-update backup of the whole iPhoto Library. And I must not make any significant changes to the new library, because there very probably is no way of merging those changes into the old one.
