Recommendations for a USB Charging Stations

We purchased 3 USB charging stations about a year ago made by http://easy-doks.com/. One bit the dust a couple of days ago. I was told to contact them and do a RMA. I did not purchase these but, being under a year I thought no problem. I contacted them and they promptly sent me back a short kind ofrude email saying that it was after 90 there wouldbe no return or repair. Really 90 days on a piece of equipment that cost $500. I couldn't believe it. Again I wasn't involved with the purchase or we wouldn't of bought these units. I couldn't find there warranty anywhere on their site. So now I am involved in finding a replacement and probably 2 more in the future. I was looking at some of the Trip-Lite units that look nice and they come with a 2 year warranty.I was just curiouswhat other Spiceheads are using. Any recommendations would be...

Since the 4th of Julyis this weekend and will be fireworks I thought would be interesting topic.
Has anyone ever did something that caused sparks to fly, or magic smoke in some device to escape?
I've had a couple, but it was old older stuff which was next to worthless so I just tinkered with and sometimes things happened. A couple times I went to plug in an additional drive or something and would touch one the 5 or 12V lead to the ground on the HDD and it shutdown the system.
I removed all the casing, cooler from an old 200MHZ pII and it got to like 300F and started to pop and smoke.
I think my biggest one would be I was working on my home backup server I was doing something with the power to the SCSI raid cage and somehow in soldering and trying to fix the wires I managed to cross the 12V and the 5V. It blew out the backplane board....

  • Need Recommendation for Windows USB 802.11N Dual Band Card for AEBS

I am building a very large WiFi network to support 100 users. The plan is to use only Dual Band Airport Extreme Base Stations.
Can anyone recommend a compatible USB adapter that will work on Windows (XP, Vista, & Windows 7)?
Looking for something that has 802.11n + 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
Any help is appreciated. (Google has been help to tell me what WON'T work... leaving me concerned that my network is going to have issues when it comes to PC users).

The one PC that is running Windows 7 which is the only PC running Windows 7, the rest are XP or Vista has a Atheros AR5007 wireless card keeps dropping connection to the airport. The computer is a HP Pavilion 1448dx. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to fix the signal drop to that computer, all of the other computers are fine.
Yes, please check with either HP or Atheros to see if there is an updated driver for the wireless card.
Another quick question: I was wondering if I could hook up my previous router (Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router) to my Airport Extreme and have the PC's run off the belkin and my mac just run off the Airport Extreme and solve the issue with the one PC dropping connection.
Yes, it may be possible. The Belkin would have to be connected to the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) via an Ethernet patch cable and reconfigured as a bridge. In addition, the Belkin's wireless radio channel should be changed to one at least 3-5 channels away from the AEBSn's channel.

  • I'm looking for a multiple charging station that will charge both iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.  Any suggestions?

Our household now has 2 iPhone 4S's, an iPhone 5, a first generation iPad, and a new iPad mini.  The wires are driving me nuts.  Is there anything out there that will allow me to charge all of these devices in one place?

I have your solution....custom built charging stations for whatever devices you have.  I build these one at a time and can sell through Etsy or direct person-to-person using PayPal.  My design is unique because the device can remain upright while the cord remains plugged in at the bottom.  Best way to contact me is through my website at www.hidemycharger.com.  The site is really nothing more than a photo gallery of my work...(this is just a simple mans way of doing business).  If you think this is not legitimate, go to Etsy.com and search for my shop JustHoller or search for phone charging stations on Etsy.  Here is an example of my work.
    Thanks a lot for looking!

  • Suggestion: "recommended for you" itunes radio station

It would be great to have an itunes radio station that would play music from the "recommended for you" list in the itunes store for music discovery that did not include things already in my collection. I would definitely buy more music if I had this service.

  • Any recommends for a mains charger for a Palm M515?

I'd like to be able to use a simple mains charger for my Palm M515 when I travel (not a car charger). I see that Amazon have one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mains-Travel-Charger-Power-Supply/dp/B002UO5C9I/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid...
but I'm a bit concerned that it could fry my Palm. Can anyone recommend a (UK) mains charger which they've tried?
    Post relates to: Palm m515

I could not access that link but here is a link to an international charger for sale on directfix.com.

What you need to look for is that the charger is an "international" model. With that model, you can use the different interchangeable plugs that are supplied for each country that requires a different plug and voltage.

  • Recommendations for USB and FireWire Card

    Hi -
I am looking for recommendations for a USB 2.0 expansion card, and a Firewire expansion card for the
    Mac Pro.
    Thanks,
    Dan Powers

The Sonnet PCI USB Express cards have this problem too - for the record. Sonnet know about the MacPro not waking with it installed, as do Apple. I am sure Apple willl come up with something, I may even find a workaround, but it has always seemed that expansion cards with all my Macs [ waaaay too many] have produced unpredicatable problems.

  • Docking/Charger station with speakers--recommendations needed.

I am looking for a docking station/ charger with speakers for my son.  He has an iPad mini and an iPhone 4.  I need a station that will charge even with the case on.  Any recommendations?

The iPod 4 and iPad Mini use different connection types, so its unlikely you'll be able to find a dock with both types.
Perhaps your best bet is to find a dock tha has 2 or more 30 pin connectors and use the Lightning to 30 pin adapter from Apple for the iPad Mini.
Or find a Universal powerd USB Hub and use that to charge the devices.
As it stands there doesn't seem to be a device that can charge  both types of devices and then have speakers.
    http://www.quirky.com/products/113-Converge-Docking-Station
Thias for example will charge both of them simultaneously using each of their included USB cables, but has no speakers.

  • Recommendations for speaker/charge dock for new iPod Nano 5th generation 8g

I have searched and searched for a speaker/charging combo dock for my new iPod Nano 5th generation 8gb player. None of them specifty they work with this latest iPod version.
    Any recommendations?

I think I have the same question more or less. I bought a cheap Best Buy memorex speaker docking station and I need a male to female IPOD cable so that I can Play the radio and charge the IPOD at the same time as well of course have the head phone jack plugged into the Line In that acts as the antenna.
So if I had the Male to Female cable My dock would charge and the cable to the line in acts as a Antenna. I think this makes sense..

Can anyone recommend a portable USB 3.0 drive with hardware encryption, compatible with OSX Mountain Lion and Windows 7.  I need it for my MacBook Pro 13”, 2012, running Mountain Lion & Windows 7 Ultimate - BootCamp.  I’ve heard that the Buffalo MiniStation Encryption does not work with OSX, is that true..?  I'd like it to work with both operating systems, using the built in hardware encryption.  Thanks

  • Even genuine iphone 5 usb charging cable does not work for an year?

I have bought an iphone 5 last year. With it, came the  original apple genuine iphone 5 lightning USB cable. It did not last for half year. I had to buy another original apple iphone 5 similar cable and it was gone within 3 months. I dont understand is it cable manufacturing problem? is apply selling fake cables? It is really annoying and I am really angry that such a reputed company cant give/ provide proper long lasting cables.
My experience with these two genuine cables was that after some months of  usage, i used to observe even if its plugged it would not charge, or if you push it hard its charging. Firstly, I never keep my phone charging all time. Then how the hack can the charging cable die? or problem arise. I bought the phone and the charging cables when I was germany. I had to buy a 20 euro local companys USB charging cable after above two stopped working with no signs of damage. I have also tried cleaning the charging jack or socket where cable is inserted. It did not help. This local charging cable started to torn out automatically and it got fully damaged, Now I am in India, I bought another cable of 10 euros and it is just two days, it would not charge again.
I am really furious now whether you use original or local USB cables they dont last for even a week? what the ****?
Do I need to really pay for those portable charger with a big price tag, that my problem will be solved? very very upset. I never have any complaint with the phone, but the charging catastrophies, really ****** me off. I think of going back to other mobile brands like samsung or nokia where there is never a charging issue or battery drainage issue once you charge its goes for days or it  is also expensive buy a nokia or samsung charger if lose it or break it. but for iphones its really bugging situation and not just me many people around the world are having sick problem with iphone brand with charging ISSUES.
APPLE PLEASE SORT THE PROBLEM OR SELL the PORTABLE IPHONE CHARGERS (WIRELESS) CHEAPER so that we dont have to use these silly little lightning cables. or I fear my APPLE I PHONE 5 is not genuine or its FAKE.
    PLEASE HELP>

Look closely at the way you handle the cables. I have never had any cable, Apple or third-party, fail on me.

  • Ipod shuffle 4th generation device not shown on itunes, not charging. Seeing red light when connecting to USB charger for a few seconds, then nothing. How to fix this?

My ipod shuffle 4th generation was working fine for a few months. My son then bit the USB charger. I bought a new USB charger, but the shuffle is not charging and not showing up under the devices in itunes. It also doesn't appear in my windows under my computer. Just to note. I also have a new ipod touch. I am able to charge that fine on the same computer using the USB charger. The device (Ipod touch) does show up in windows and in itunes. The shuffle doesn't show in either place.
I have tried to use the apple support page. I went through each step. I made all of my USB drives not shut down, I had my computer on all night to try and charge the shuffle. All I see is a red light that appears on the shuffle for a few seconds when I first connect the USB charger to the computer. Then, nothing. Since this was working a bit ago, I don't think that I have a defective shuffle. The USB charger is brand new, I just picked it up yesterday from the apple store. I have the short one, and the longer cable as well.
Any help that you might be able to give to me would be much appreciated. My daughter is missing listening to her music. Thanks!

Instead of "charger," you should call it the "USB cable" to avoid confusion.  When started reading your post, I was thinking, how can your son break a USB power adapter (the "charger" that plugs into a wall socket) by biting it...
Since you got the product with the two USB cables at the Apple Store, you have the right replacement (some third-party replacements are for the 2nd gen shuffle and do not work with the 4th gen shuffle).  Make sure you are completely inserting the plug into the headphones jack.  The fit may be tighter than expected, since the connectors are new.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3572
If you tried both of those cables, it would be unlikely that you got two faulty cables in one package.  If a new USB device has been added to the computer between the time it worked with the old cable and now, there could be a problem on the USB bus (such as not enough power or a device conflict).
As a test, you should shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices (including any hub), except for standard keyboard and mouse (if used).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1655
Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle by itself to a direct USB port on the computer.

  • I got a usb charger for my 4th gen Ipod touch that at first allowed my to charge and transfer music from my laptop to the Ipod now nothing happens when I plug the usb

I got a usb charger for my 4th gen Ipod touch that at first allowed my to charge and transfer music from my laptop to the Ipod now nothing happens when I plug the usb cord and Ipod into my laptop. Its mac so it is an apple system. I am wondering how I can fix this problem I am not very good with techy stuff so this is very confusing how it was working and it just stopped.

    Hi johnsmiff99,
That is never fun when your iPod touch does not show up on your Mac. Take a look at the article below to walk you through on getting it to show back up on your iTunes. It is very easy to read so you wont feel overwhelmed with to much techy jargon. Let me know if you get this worked out.

  • Safe Output Rating for 240V USB adapter to charge my IPod Touch4.

Is it safe to use a 240V USB adapter I have for my camera that has an Output rating of 4.4V  400mA to charge my new IPod Touch4?  I note that similar comercial (non Apple) products that claim to be compatible with the IPod Touch4 have a rating of 5V 1A.  I would be grateful for any advice on this subject.

I have to say that the likelyhood anyone being able to "confirm" almost anything on a public forum is remote.
    I can tell you though;
a lower voltage than the one required will not damage an iPod. However, a lower voltage may not provide enough "energy" (voltage potential, or EMF) to push the current around the circuit. So it wouldn't work.
A higher voltage than the one required could possibly burn the electronics inside the iPod. One completely broken iPod.
A charger that does not provide enough current may either charge slowly or not at all. I still believe 400mA is not enough, especially if it has a low output voltage as well.
The iPod should draw only the current it requires, so one that supplies more than enough current will not damage it. However, personally, I would not use a charger that supplied (for example) 2400mA, with an iPod.
Considering the cost of your iPod, isn't it wiser to spend a little money now, on either an Apple charger or at the very least, a proper 5 volt USB charger that supplies more than enough current (the mA), rather than coughing up for a new iPod because the charger you used damaged the iPod?
Actually, two questions you can answer, which might help.
What make is this camera charger anyway?
Does it have a recognised (proper) USB output connection?
You say that you have three opposing views. In fact, all three of us are effectively saying don't use this charger. Perhaps we have confused you by trying to explain it.

If you are seldom in a Wi-Fi Network Area, then you can turn off Wi-Fi until you knowingly are in such a Network Area.  You can go through your Applications where you don't really need to know the instant an Update is available and turn off the push update notifications.  You can turn down the screen brightness.  You can set the sleep cycle to 1-min.  You could set your email to check for new messages every 30-min. rather than less than 1 min.  Just some of many steps available.
