Recommendations for best photo quality in a slideshow video?

I have a project that I'm working on where photo quality is a priority to the customer.  I'd never paid attention previously that the final product was less than perfect with the images...
Can someone recomend what best procedure would be and what settings I should be using on the sequence to preserve the quality? (or point me to a link that could walk me through it) The photos are all 1024px wide at 300dpi, currently saved as .jpgs.  I can resize and save them from Photoshop into another format if needed...
Thank you!

Saw that you were going to DV. Your images will be scaled, but not by that much. If you will be doing and Pans with an image Zoomed out to max, you'll have a bit of wiggle room. In general terms, 1000x750 is recommended, though I size all of my images as needed, usually 720x480. The resizing algorithms in PrPro are not as good as those in PS. Still, you're talking such a small amount of scaling and already have JPEG's to start, that I would leave them, as they are.
In the future, you might try to go to before the JPEG compression, where quality is the biggest concern, and resize to suit in PS. Save_As .PSD.
Here's an ARTICLE on resizing in PS, if it's of interest to you.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Book - best settings for best photo quality

What are the best settings for my photos in order to get the best quality book?
    Thanks
    Zasa

    zasa:
Use the largest file, pixel wise, that you can. The books are printed at 300 dpi so the largest size the better to insure you'll get as close to that dpi for the largest page picture possible.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • C4780 scan this alignment page for best print quality problem

My C4780 photosmart printer is stuck in the "scan this alignment page for best print quality" loop.
i.e. It keep display this message and refuse to print.
My OS is windows Vista Home.
I had followed the steps in the user manual but still cannot fix this problem.

    Hi tsanchung,
From the description of your problem, it appears that the alignment process was not completed successfully.
I would recommend that you load the alignment page printed as shown in the section 'Step eight: Align the cartridges' in the link below to complete the alignment:

  • What are the browser recommendations for best viewing iWeb 08 site on a PC?

What are the browser recommendations for best viewing iWeb sites on a PC? Can't find any info on Apple iWeb site.

    Hi,
I don't think there are recommendations from Apple.
What I can say is that the newest version of InternetExplorer at the UniversityCampus is working great with my website I didn't find any problem (Menus, Slideshows, text displaying, pictures everything worked great). There are IE problems reported in other threads but I think they refer to older IE versions (seems like most IE users still have older versions on their PCs).
    Newest Firefox will work too.

  • For highest photo quality what should ppi be? in photoshop should I "Sharpen Edges" as in use for web?

For highest photo quality what should ppi be to look good in Retina?  In photoshop should I use "Sharpen Edges" as I would for in use for web?

There are about 1 trillion  threads and replies about the size of images to be used and accepted when using iBA.
Obvioulsy you have not taken time to search the forum  before asking your question, nor do you seem to have downloaded the iBA asset guide.
I suggest you go to Apples iPad page on the store and check the screen dimentions/ resolution for a non mini  iPad retina. DPI at 72 or above is your choice.
I also suggest before setting out on a book project, you take time to read the forum and download the PDFs which are available.
A KT states in effect - first do your own home work before starting out asking questions and that way you will avoid the proverbial self inflicted wounds - which will follow because  it seems you have not yet actually spent time learning about iBA or read the  help files.
This forum will gladly spend time and effort to help folk... but most dont  really have time to continually  givie answers which already exist on the forum.

  • Fill screen with zoom for small photo sizes (as in slideshow)?

Front facing iPhone 4S camera sized photos are too small in iPhoto. Is it possible to set a default to fill screen with zoom for all photo sizes (as in slideshow)? Seems like the old iPhoto worked like this.

That's what I was afraid of!  I wish it would still scale photos to fill the window also if they're smaller  than the window size (not just 100%), like it used to in older versions of iPhoto. Especially irritating, since the problem photos are from an Apple product, the front facing camera of the iPhone4s.  I already added my complaint to "feedback".
    Thanks anyway.

  • For best sound quality should volume be controlled from iPad or BlueTooth speaker?

For best sound quality when listening to music, should the volume be controlled from iPad or from a connected Bluetooth speaker?

For good sound quality, flat response is the most important thing. Take a look at qloud, http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34412, and find yourself a very good microphone.
Then you will probably want to set a global equalizer for your machine. You can try with alsa, http://krustev.net/w/articles/Global_eq … _for_ALSA/.
If ALSA isn't finegrained enough, jack has a lot more flexibility, except for the fact that it doesn't allow you to set default output device, so you will need a helper application to redirect all output connections to your equalizer.
Well, i would say this is quite subjective. Untouched signal is superior to any equalized sound in my opinion, but i know this debate is never satisfying

  • Recommendation for best way to copy a DVD and send to Vimeo?

8 years ago I made a DVD of a 2-hour SD program and now I'd like to put it up on Vimeo. Before I upload it, I'd like to copy it into FCPX to add some text. What software and process do you recommend so I'll end up with the best quality on Vimeo (I have Vimeo Pro, which allows up to 20GBs).
I've been trying to copy it, but I keep getting little scan lines around points of movement.
Your recommendations are welcome! Thanks. Duncan

Russ and Tom, thanks for your guidance on this.
Russ, you were right that the Playback Component will work with 10.9. I was confused by the Apple Store website that says, “On OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required and cannot be installed.” That warning proved true, since when I downloaded it, I couldn’t install it. But the link Tom sent me told me how to load it anyway, using the Streamclip utility script, which worked.
I then experimented with about 9 different settings to get the digital file as close to the DVD in quality as possible. The one that worked best for me was a combination of the settings you both sent me: Open the DVD in Streamclip, set Compression for ProRes 422 Quicktime, Quality: 100%, check Deinterlace Video, check Field Dominance Upper Field First (I tried Lower, but didn’t see a difference).
Although Streamclip lists Frame Size for 4:3 as “640x480”, Tom pointed out “The native format for DVD is not 640x480, but 720x480.” So I selected “720x480 (DV-NTSC)” for Frame Size in Streamclip. Then I clicked “Make Movie”.
Then I imported the file into FCPX, created a new project, and, as Russ suggested, had FCPX set the project properties based on the first clip. I loaded the file on the timeline, added my lettering, and then went to Share, where I exported it as a “Master File” with “Web Hosting” chosen. This produced the finished file ready for uploading. Although in stages of this process there were jagged lines on lettering, they were mostly gone on the final file. The end product is close in quality to the original DVD. Close enough.
Russ and Tom, I struggled with this for days. Thank you for helping me.

  • HD output process for best / highest quality?

We shot our film in DVCPRO HD 720p 24.
We are done editing and ready to output to DVD for festival submission. What is the best way to output the film for the best / highest quality?
Should we run this through compressor?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Paul

David, Do you need to adjust the compressor preset to maintain 24p thru dvd authoring (for better quality at lower bitrate - not to mention that full 24p experience on a properly configured dvd player and plasma screen)?
I know that DVDSP does not register the m2v file as 24p (even though it is). I use bitvice to do my high quality compression so I'm not sure about compressor.

  • I need help getting best photo quality

    Hello,
I need some help for a dedication photo page that I am doing for my son's baseball tribute.  It is a photo page with limited text and will be printed in a directory.  The last time I did this, my photos were very blurry.  I am trying to get the best resolution possible and I'm not sure whether I should use Photoshop or In design.  I currently have the entire cs4 suite.  I sampled the new CC suite several months ago, but like my software I already own, never learned how to use anything.  If you can offer any advice on programs and settings to get me going, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Teressa

When taking a picture with a camera, use the highest resolution possible and if it offers raw format use that instead of jpg. The raw format is just that raw, kind of like a negitive. Nothing is done to it, but provides the highest quality resolution and number of colors. The jpg format, is an edited version in that the settings of the camera dictate what the final image will look like.
Even though for beginners jpg sounds appealing as the camera is doing the work, it also degrades the image. Jpg by nature throws out data to compress the file so that it can be smaller in size. Each time you open and save that jpg file, more data gets throwed out, until the image looks blotchy.
Raw files are non writable. There is no way to over write the data in that file. They use a sperate file called a sidecar file which holds any changes you make to that raw file in camera raw or lightroom.
Once the file opens in photoshop, there is no save as raw file (well there is, but it is not the same as your camera uses) So any edits here in photoshop need to be saved in another format preferable one that is non-destructive when compressing the file, like psd, tiff, png, etc.
Now that the file formats are out of the way, next advice is to keep an eye on the pixel dimentions. The higher the pixel numbers for the width and height, the better the quality will be.
To see the pixel dimentions use the menu Image>Image Size...
Towards the bottom is a check box for resampling the image. With this box checked, you can alter the pixel dimentions. With it unchecked, you can not.
If you reduce the pixel dimentions you are literally throwing in out data. It will no longer exist.
If you increase the pixel dimentions, photoshop trys its best to guess what the data should be to add it.
This is the reason why it is so important to use the highest quality image directly from the camera. As good as photoshop is, it can only be just so good, when you increase the pixel dimentions enough the image will become blurry.
If you reduce the pixel dimentions enough the image will become "pixelated" (It will look like it has a severe case of the jaggies {blocky looking})
So most of the time someone will have an image that does not have enough pixels in the image and the program they print from scales it up to fit a certain area and it will be blurry.
Long story short, it does not matter which program you use, photoshop or InDesign, if the image has enough pixels you will be fine, if not, you will get blurry images.

  • Looking for best DVD quality as possible - help please !!!

    Hello All
I have some footage ( 55min ) recorded on a Sony Z1 - HDV 1080 60i - 16:9 and edit on FCP. I exported the file on the same setting. Then sent to compressor to creat a DVD on DVD SP. I dont wanna let DVD SP encode the files, even because it will not accept files on HDV to autoring a SD DVD.
Whats the best settings I can get to produce the best quality dvd as possible.
What I did is use the DVD Best quality 90 min and raised the bit rate to its maximum - 7.7 or so. Is there a better way to do it or should I choose a different setting.
Hope I could make myself clear.
    P.S. - Sorry for English.

    Hi
I think that the following tutorial will help you: [Exporting HDV Video from the Timeline to Standard Definition DVD|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/hdv_timeline_to_sddvd.html].
You need FCP 6 (FinalCut Studio2) ti use ProRes codec.
PS: Sorry for my english ... I'm from Argentina !
    Hope that helps !
