  • Recommendations for best wireless multifunction printer for Macs $100?

Anyone with recommendations for best wireless MFP for Macs <$100.  Would like to be able to print photos too.  Need EASY set up.  Prefer two paper cartridges.  Would like to be able to print from iPad, iPhone, Laptop and Mac.  Also need to fax.
Oh...and need to buy it tomorrow.  Help appreciated.

Hard to say, we all like different flavors.
If you have had a good experence with say your old Epson like I have, then that's the flavor that I will most likely stick with.

  • What are the browser recommendations for best viewing iWeb 08 site on a PC?

What are the browser recommendations for best viewing iWeb sites on a PC? Can't find any info on Apple iWeb site.

    Hi,
I don't think there are recommendations from Apple.
What I can say is that the newest version of InternetExplorer at the UniversityCampus is working great with my website I didn't find any problem (Menus, Slideshows, text displaying, pictures everything worked great). There are IE problems reported in other threads but I think they refer to older IE versions (seems like most IE users still have older versions on their PCs).
    Newest Firefox will work too.

  • Recommendation for best way to copy a DVD and send to Vimeo?

8 years ago I made a DVD of a 2-hour SD program and now I'd like to put it up on Vimeo. Before I upload it, I'd like to copy it into FCPX to add some text. What software and process do you recommend so I'll end up with the best quality on Vimeo (I have Vimeo Pro, which allows up to 20GBs).
I've been trying to copy it, but I keep getting little scan lines around points of movement.
Your recommendations are welcome! Thanks. Duncan

Russ and Tom, thanks for your guidance on this.
Russ, you were right that the Playback Component will work with 10.9. I was confused by the Apple Store website that says, “On OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required and cannot be installed.” That warning proved true, since when I downloaded it, I couldn’t install it. But the link Tom sent me told me how to load it anyway, using the Streamclip utility script, which worked.
I then experimented with about 9 different settings to get the digital file as close to the DVD in quality as possible. The one that worked best for me was a combination of the settings you both sent me: Open the DVD in Streamclip, set Compression for ProRes 422 Quicktime, Quality: 100%, check Deinterlace Video, check Field Dominance Upper Field First (I tried Lower, but didn’t see a difference).
Although Streamclip lists Frame Size for 4:3 as “640x480”, Tom pointed out “The native format for DVD is not 640x480, but 720x480.” So I selected “720x480 (DV-NTSC)” for Frame Size in Streamclip. Then I clicked “Make Movie”.
Then I imported the file into FCPX, created a new project, and, as Russ suggested, had FCPX set the project properties based on the first clip. I loaded the file on the timeline, added my lettering, and then went to Share, where I exported it as a “Master File” with “Web Hosting” chosen. This produced the finished file ready for uploading. Although in stages of this process there were jagged lines on lettering, they were mostly gone on the final file. The end product is close in quality to the original DVD. Close enough.
Russ and Tom, I struggled with this for days. Thank you for helping me.

  • Best stabilizer plugin?

In my opinion Warp Stabilizer is a really mediocre stabilizer. Not only it takes ages to analize the clip (on a system with an Intel i3930k CPU and 32 GB of RAM), the results are often terrible for anything that is not simple footage with a little shaking. And believe me, I tried every possible option in it to make it better, but it's just bad.
Having had Edius before Premiere, which comes bundled with Mercalli 2, I was used to great stabilization after a very short time of analysis, in fact I just did a simple comparison of the same clip that is only about 3 minutes long, which took over an hour to analyze with Warp, and with Mercalli Pro in Edius it did the analysis at 60 fps, which is more than twice as fast as the clip itself for 23.98 fps footage. And the result of the stabilization is far better than what Warp produced.
As of now I can import the footage into Edius, run Mercalli and export the results, but since I have quite a few shaky clips I would prefer a solution that works as a plugin inside Premiere.
But seeing that Mercalli Pro is $250 to use as a plugin in Premiere, I was wondering if there is another plugin of equal quality and speed for a lot less money. I remember trying the NewBlueFX plugin but it was terrible, and I would prefer not to start installing trials of lots of plugins since I recently did a fresh install of my whole OS and apps and I don't want to start messing that up so soon.
    Thanks,
    Sebastian

    Sebastian,
The one that I read about most often, and usually with glowing reviews from users, is Mercalli.
Yes, US $250 is a bit steep, but I see it as a "featured special" on Digital Juice (http://www.digitaljuice.com/default.asp?) from time to time.
Good luck, and maybe others will have alternates for you.

  • Recommendations for best photo quality in a slideshow video?

I have a project that I'm working on where photo quality is a priority to the customer.  I'd never paid attention previously that the final product was less than perfect with the images...
Can someone recomend what best procedure would be and what settings I should be using on the sequence to preserve the quality? (or point me to a link that could walk me through it) The photos are all 1024px wide at 300dpi, currently saved as .jpgs.  I can resize and save them from Photoshop into another format if needed...
    Thank you!

Saw that you were going to DV. Your images will be scaled, but not by that much. If you will be doing and Pans with an image Zoomed out to max, you'll have a bit of wiggle room. In general terms, 1000x750 is recommended, though I size all of my images as needed, usually 720x480. The resizing algorithms in PrPro are not as good as those in PS. Still, you're talking such a small amount of scaling and already have JPEG's to start, that I would leave them, as they are.
In the future, you might try to go to before the JPEG compression, where quality is the biggest concern, and resize to suit in PS. Save_As .PSD.
Here's an ARTICLE on resizing in PS, if it's of interest to you.
    Good luck,

  • Recommendations for best disk recovery software

I'm reading up on various reviews on disk recovery software, but just wanted to get some of your opinions and recommendations.
I use to use Nortons back in the old days of System 7 and beige G3s but haven't need to use such software until now, so i'm a bit out of the loop.

As far as Recovery is concerned I would say Data Rescue is pretty good.
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
More important as I am sure you are aware however is a good cloning and or backup plan. I have a Lacie d2 external with three partitions (clone, data and emergency boot). I use Super Duper for the cloning, also manually backup very important files on data archive. Both the clone and emergency boot partitions are bootable.
And, I also burn very, very important files to CD/DVD.

  • TC firmware 7.3.2 versus 7.4.1!  What's recommended for best connectivity?

for some time now my internet connections drops for no apparent reason and then comes back on. These interruptions last anywhere from 3 sec to several minutes.
I read somewhere that downgrading to Airport Utility firmware 7.3.2 helps.
    Other suggestions were:
    - deleting airport and internet related .plist files from the preferences folder.
    - delete a apple.airport.kext file from the Extensions folder.
    - switch channels in my 802.11 n (b/g) network.
Nothing of the above changed for the better.
here is what I gathered so far and tried myself based on numerous posts with people having similar problems:
    Airport Utility> Wireless options:
    - WPA Group Key timeout is set to 365 days,
    - I use "Interface Robustness) (both under "wireless options") .
    Under System preferences>Network settings:
    - IPv6 is turned off,
    - Airport is set on top of "service order.
    - I deleted all other networks except for the one I am using.
Here is my basic set up:
I am on 10.5.6 and use a 1TB 1. generation TC. Backups run normally but the wifi connection (just 5 feet of direct though 2 windows). I am connected wirelessly though a PPPoE connection
Log in/ Start up items (under System Preferences>Accounts:)
I don't have a Realplayer in my start up items (as suggested as a potential problem in one of the forums)
can a change back to the older firmware help? or should I forget about the TC and reactivate my old and trusted 1. generation Airport Basestation?
thanks in advance for any advice

    Thx Bob,
I tried the downgrading to 7.3.2 and it did not help matters.
I am not sure when or what exactly happened to make the TC act up.
I might go back to the old Airport Basestation if I don't find a solution here in this forum.
I talked to several Apple Care guys and had ISP folks check my modem.
    any other suggestions?
    thx

  • 16 mm Movie Transfer / seeking rec for best company

    Hello!
I have a bunch of 16 mm movies shot in the 1920s-1950s and I am seeking recommendations for best company for the transfer. Searching this group yielded recommendation for MyMovieTransfer.com which looks like one good option, but it appears they transfer just in 720p. I have reviewed other companies which transfer in 1080p and even some that scan in 2K and 4K. Some companies have detailed descriptions of their equipment including how they line up individual scanned frames optically as superior to mechanically lining up films and many other details. After reviewing those sites I was tending toward the 2K scan as the ultimate quality for 16 mm since I want to do this once for all time before the film deteriorates.
Any recommendations for companies or scan quality would be recommended!

This is a good point as well. I do have the ability to burn Blu-Ray discs and at least commercial discs can be 24 FPS, I don't know about home movies or whether editing can be done in iMovie at 24 FPS. If I need to move to FCPX for this project I can do it. Any recs on transfer company / scan quality?

  • What are Best Practice Recommendations for Java EE 7 Property File Configuration?

Where does application configuration belong in modern Java EE applications? What best practice(s) recommendations do people have?
By application configuration, I mean settings like connectivity settings to services on other boxes, including external ones (e.g. Twitter and our internal Cassandra servers...for things such as hostnames, credentials, retry attempts) as well as those relating business logic (things that one might be tempted to store as constants in classes, e.g. days for something to expire, etc).
    Assumptions:
We are deploying to a Java EE 7 server (Wildfly 8.1) using a single EAR file, which contains multiple wars and one ejb-jar.
We will be deploying to a variety of environments: Unit testing, local dev installs, cloud based infrastructure for UAT, Stress testing and Production environments. **Many of  our properties will vary with each of these environments.**
We are not opposed to coupling property configuration to a DI framework if that is the best practice people recommend.
All of this is for new development, so we don't have to comply with legacy requirements or restrictions. We're very focused on the current, modern best practices.
Does configuration belong inside or outside of an EAR?
If outside of an EAR, where and how best to reliably access them?
If inside of an EAR we can store it anywhere in the classpath to ease access during execution. But we'd have to re-assemble (and maybe re-build) with each configuration change. And since we'll have multiple environments, we'd need a means to differentiate the files within the EAR. I see two options here:
Utilize expected file names (e.g. cassandra.properties) and then build multiple environment specific EARs (eg. appxyz-PROD.ear).
Build one EAR (eg. appxyz.ear) and put all of our various environment configuration files inside it, appending an environment variable to each config file name (eg cassandra-PROD.properties). And of course adding an environment variable (to the vm or otherwise), so that the code will know which file to pickup.
What are the best practices people can recommend for solving this common challenge?
    Thanks.

    HI Bob,
As sometimes when you create a model using a local wsdl file then instead of refering to URL mentioned in wsdl file it refers to say, "C:\temp" folder from where you picked up that file. you can check target address of logical port. Due to this when you deploy application on server it try to search it in "c:\temp" path instead of it path specified at soap:address location in wsdl file.
Best way is  re-import your Adaptive Web Services model using the URL specified in wsdl file as soap:address location.
    like http://<IP>:<PORT>/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel<xirequest>
or you can ask you XI developer to give url for webservice and username password of server
