Recommendations for Laser Printer

I need a low cost ($200-400) color laser printer with reasonably fast printing pages per minute, especially in black and white. It will be attached mostly to a an iBook running the latest OS X. It will also be attached occasionally to a Dell Latitude. Anybody got an ideas?

Jamie,
I just wanted to thank you once again for your suggestion of the HP LaserJet 1320. I picked one up last week at Office Depot and, after I receive my $50 mail-in rebate, my total cost will have been $139.99!
The printer itself had an 'instant savings' of $100 off the SRP of $399.99 (and - for those who might be interested - this instant savings continues until June 30 - see the HP website for details.), bring it down to $299.99; I had an $100 Office Depot 'rewards' card plus a $10 'instant off' coupon from the previous week, bringing it down to $189.99 and there was a mail-in rebate for $50 (which, according to the paperwork, I can expect within 6 weeks) so... I was able to get a $400 printer for less than $140 (+ tax, of course).
Still, even with $14 tax, I have to assume that I would have paid at least as much in shipping AND I only had to drive for less than 5 miles, spend 20 minutes explaining why I did not want or need either the extended warranty or the Super Special Laser Printer Official Office Depot Very Special Customer Service Box (a cable, some paper, and a few other doodads for $60) and now I've printed a couple of hundred sheets and love the thing.
Had it not been for your recommendation, I likely would have forgotten the $100 Office Depot card until it expired and would not have sought out the printer there in the first place.
It's such a warm and fuzzy feeling to get such a deal on such a terrific little printer... and, so, I thank you, again.

  • Looking for laser printer recommendations (please read!)

I couldn't find a spot that fit this question and although I may not receive any answers here, this is a very active forum with members who are unafraid of new technology, so here's letting one rip...
OK, I've not had a laser printer in a number of years - when my beloved LaserWriter II NTX gave up the ghost. I find that I am lately, however, printing more and more text-only or text-heavy documents at home and going through black ink cartridges like a hungry lumberman through flapjacks. Although I've not looked into laser technology for years, I am wondering if it may not be more economical to print these pages on a 'personal' laser printer (I know that toner cartridges are not cheap, either, but they are less expensive, from what I've read, than using inkjet to print text-heavy documents) than to continue racking up rebate dollars by selling my soul for black ink cartridges.
So I am looking for a laser printer that can handle about 2,500-4,000 pages a month AND (here's the kicker!) have automatic duplex printing capabilities... I've never had this ability on a laser printer but I understand it's available on some models these days.
I'm not looking for an 'office capable' printer - maybe more like a 'small office'? No real need for Ethernet, yet, if it's a standard feature, I would certainly use it. A small footprint would be nice.
As I wander into the local Office Depot I am overwhelmed by the choices and yet stupefied to find that the 'hang tags' on many of the models don't really give too much information - page one can expect from a cartridge, connectivity options, duplexing capabilities (I seem to find none, yet am certain that I've read of their existence).
    So my criteria:
    1. monochrome
    2. PostScript emulation (unless CUPS supports lasers? It'd difficult to tell by the ad hype yet Apple does seem to have drivers or, at least, Brother and HP laser printers). I don't want to be limited to 72 typefaces...
    3. automated duplexing
    4. small footprint
    5. more economical to operate than an inkjet at 2,500-4000 pages per month
    6. networkable, though served through another CPU via USB is fine
    7. brand is not important - as long as reliability is high (and, like Brother, for instance, is supported by Apple)
Please leave a message if you should have ANY suggestions or, if you can point me towards a website with a good overview of what's available (and with actual tests would even be better!) I would be very appreciative.

  • Can anyone recommend a laser printer for Mac OS 10.7.3?

I recently bought a new iMac only to discover my old samsung printer is not compatible. Any suggestions on a new laser printer?

    And a third.
    I like this one: http://www.brother-usa.com/printer/ModelDetail.aspx?ProductID=HL2270DW#
    Street price is about $100.
I have an earlier model, since discontinued. It's 100% reliable and about $1100 less than the last laser printer I bought.
If you're in the market for a printer I strongly recommend a manufacturer that actively supports OS X, Lion in particular, and does not treat the Mac market as an afterthought. Wireless network capable is a must. Brother meets all those requirements.
AirPrint would be nice but is not necessary - there are alternatives to AirPrint.
What model Samsung printer do you have? There may be a way to make it work. Here are a couple potentially relevant posts:

  • Airport and Colour Laser Printer Sharing-Any recommendations for a printer?

    Hi,
I am looking for reasonably priced (about 400-600USD) colour laser printer that I could hooked up to my Airport Express' USB connection.
Would anyone has any recommadations for a type&model?
One option that I have been examing is Epson's Aculaser C1100. Any experiences with this one?
I could go with C1100N model with LAN connection, but I would love share the printer wirelessly (without the extra effort of rearranging my ip address environment..)
    Thanks,
    Tuure
    Mac OS X (10.4.4)

You are righ, i own a eculaser 1100 connected via airport express too. It works without any problem, if useing power pcs. If I try to prit using an intel mac, the new intel driver will hang up and the printer driver told me an interface type error -1. Epson support told me to ask the manufacturer of my os... Haha, like i said before it works with the old driver for power pc (V 2.3 ?) but for intel mac you have to use V3.0. And only this will not work. Does anyone have an idea for me? PowerPC works fine, win dows xp using bonjour prints fine too. Connection the aculaser directly to the mac book pro will work too, but using airport will no print me anything using the intel mac

  • Recommendations for new Printer needed!

    Hi!
Like a dolt, I dropped my printer and now it doesn't want to work anymore (imagine that!) I'm overwhelmed by the choices, so I was hoping to get a recommendation for a great all-purpose color ink jet printer for under $200. I do a lot of 8 x 10 prints that I like to frame so image quality is top priority.
    Thanks so much in advance!
    Amie

Here's a link to the Canon USA page for printers. Note there are several under $200. The ones that have a little red "new" by them use an ink system that's new from Canon.
    http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=103
Here's a quote I copied from one of the individual printer descriptions:
    "A system for long-lasting photos.
The Canon ChromaLife100 system combines the PIXMA iP6220D Photo Printer's FINE print head technology and newly developed inks with select Canon photo papers, with results rivaling that of many conventional photos. These beautiful photos will also last up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album."
I think you'd be very happy with a Canon. I understand Epsons are great, but they continue to have a problem with clogging if not treated with great care, and the Canon ink cartridges (one for each color, by the way) are less expensive, too. Canon paper seems a little harder to find, but I've also seen some good buys at Office Depot recently, so I think places are now stocking more since Canon has become such a big contender in the field of consumer grade inkjet printers. (Sorry for the huge runon sentence, but I'm too lazy to edit!)

  • Escape codes for laser printer Kyocera FS-3920dn in reports 6i

    Hi,
I use many reports for printing on laser printer Kyocera FS-3920DN. But now I need print some reports on special performed paper. For this we added 1 paper tray to printer ( Now we have 2 trays in printer ). How can I define for new reports which tray have to use ??? I wish to specified for report2.rep to use automaticly tray 2. Its a way through PRT file use escape codes ?? Have you any experience pls??

In the report itself you can use:
    SRW.SET_PRINTER_TRAY('tray');
    see the online help.
We do it differently, though. Our printers have 2 trays, one with blank paper and one with pre-printed logo paper.
On each PC there are two printers defined (PRINTER_BLANk and PRINTER_LOGO). They point to the same printer, just a different tray.

  • Ideas / Recommendations for Workgroup Printer with LOW Cost-per-page?

(Like everyone else), we're printing more color than we anticipated.
Our leasing company charges $0.09 per color page on our Xerox Workcenter 7545 copier.
Color print is primarily used by a small group (6 individuals) who print about 3000 color pages per month.  I'm considering a smaller additional network laser just for that group - if a suitable one can be found.  (Does not need to be multi-function.)
We'd probably purchase (vs. lease) in this case - but cost-per-page (toner cost) is an important consideration.
Has anyone else done a similar recent study - and been happily surprised by the actual outcome?  Or - are your costs lower - but you've been unsatisfied by reliability, etc.?
    Thanks in advance!

I had an add pop on the side of spiceworks for 10Gbps business internet. Immediatley the following popped into my head:Holy Crap! I would sh*t a brick to have that internet! I would literally force a brick out of my sphincter to have those kinds of speeds! It got me to thinking about the kinds of speeds we have in my area (desert of west Texas). The hospital at which I work has a 100Mbps fiber circuit, but most home users are running 4Mbps DSL! We are moving to a 500Mbps fiber circuit soon, but what kinds of speeds is everyone else running on? Post up your speed tests!P.S. Yes the upload speed on mine is embarrassing, but we are having some issues at the moment.

  • Recommendations for printer/all in one for use with 10.9+? Help!

Does anyone have recommendations for a printer/all-in-one that will work with Mavericks? Monochrome (b&w) laser printer/all-in-one preferred. This is for a small office (5-8 people). Frequent pdf printing and 30+ page documents.
Right now I'm looking at Brother MFC-7860DW (might need something with a larger capacity), Brother MFC-8710DW, Epson WorkForce WF-M1030 (again, may need something w/ larger capacity), and Canon Laser imageCLASS MF4770n or Canon Laser imageCLASS MF4890dw. Also have looked at Canon imageCLASS MF6160dw but reviews are iffy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your help and input, diggernyc. If I was going to say that my question had been answered I certainly would have chosen your response and not my own. It seems silly that you can't undo marking a post as "solved".
If anyone has suggestions, they are still appreciated. Thanks!

  • Different btn dotmatrix print and laser print

    hello sap experts
how can i print my pld report in dotmatrix print and what is the difference btn dotmatrix print anda laser print
    thanks in advance
    regards
    Jenny

    Hi,
Incase of dot matrix printers only limited printers are supported by sap b1 like Epson - FX890,Citizen ProDot 30,Epson FX880.
Refer note:724904 for instructions printing in sap b1using dot matrix printers.
More over you have to set the alignment(as often it gets changed).
And as most of the dot matrix use continuous printing sheets,it would be a tedious job to make the PLD alignment.
Whereas in case of laser printer you can easily do the alignment as it would in A4 size.
I suggest you to go for laser printer if it is affordable by client.

  • What damage would result from using inkjet paper in a laser printer

The subject says it all really. If one accidentally uses inkjet photo glossy paper in a colour laserjet, would it damage the printer?
If it would how badly would it damage it? What replacement parts would be necessary.
Conversely if laser glossy paper e.g. HP Professional Photo Paper 200 is used in an inkjet, will it damage the inkjet printer?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Using glossy coated inkjet paper in a laserjet could certainly damage the laser printer because the inkjet coated paper is not designed to handle the high temperatures of laser printing, particularly the fuser roller.  In a bad (maybe worst?) case the coating would delaminate on the roller, damaging the roller and requiring service.
Using photo paper designed for laser printing in an inkjet printer should not cause any damage, but the results are likely to be poor, wasting the print.

  • Can anyone recommend a Multi-function black and white laser printer for that works with Mountain Lion? The MFP can be either 3-in-1  or 4-in-1 i.e with fax

can anyone recommend a Multi-function black and white laser printer for that works with Mountain Lion?
The MFP can be either 3-in-1  or 4-in-1 i.e with fax

I bought an epson xp650 a couple of months ago and cannot fault it. It does everything I require and it is the wifi model so I can print directly from my ipad/iphone. Not sure if you are asking about the colour of the unit or just to be able to print black and white, Obviously all printers will print black and white but just to give you a little more info the printer I bought is the white version and it looks really nice sat next to my imac 27''
    Hope this helps.

  • Recommendation for color laser printer

What is a decent color laser printer to use with Airport Express? I don't print a lot (perhaps a couple of hundred pages per month), so having separate toner cartridge for each CMYK color isn't necessary.

I believe this link is a good place to start.

  • Looking for recommendations for a good small color laser printer

My trusty Canon inkjet is on its last legs and I am considering getting a color laser printer.
I need it to have ethernet so all computers on my home LAN can print to it.
I am currently looking at the Samsung CPL-315W and the HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni Printer.
Pros: Samsung is smaller than the HP
    Samsung toner is cheaper
HP print quality is rumored to be better
    Cons:
Samsung toner is more difficult to find locally
HP printer is more expensive ($309 compared to $199)
If you have any advice or experience with these printers, I would appreciate it.

    hi cejones,
Did you end up finding a printer?
I'm looking as well. I have the Samsung clp-510 and while it's very reliable, the UI for mac is terrible. So terrible in fact that I still have it connected to a PC b/c their UI is much better for controlling colour etc..
i'm looking for a wireless solution.
