Recommendations for personal wiki software?

I'm thinking about setting up a personal wiki to, you know, organize myself and keep track of things...whatever you do with wikis. I started writing a simple one in Ruby as a project, but it's going to take a while to get anywhere and I want to start using something now.
What wiki software do people prefer?
Things that would be really nice:
* I'll want to serve it so I can reference/edit it from work and different computers - so preferrably edits should be password/ssl protected
* Mind map/graphical representations
* easily insert and edit mathematics (and code)
* Bonus marks if it has a personalizable favicon or is related to emacs in some way.
Any recommendations? Should I be using something industrial-strength like MediaWiki or MoinMoin, or is there a more lightweight solution?

dokuwiki also has a built-in syntax highlighter for code. Which I use a lot. Having all of the pages stored as plain text makes makes administration a snap too.
You also mentioned something about emacs. Well you can edit dokuwiki in two ways.
Go right to the directory with the text files and start editing them.
Or use a firefox plugin called "It's All Text" which will allow you to open any 'text area' tags in your favorite editor.

Personal Wiki Software Recommendations?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some kind of personal wiki software that:
1. Allows me to edit it using vim
2. Supports typesetting mathematical equations
Apps like Zim and Wikidpad have LaTeX plugins that take care of the second issue, but seem to lock me into using their editor. There are a couple of great vim plugins like vim-wiki and viki, but (as far as I can tell) they don't have any kind of math markup environment.
Any ideas? Or am I looking in the wrong direction?

Dokuwiki is lightweight, has latex plugin and you can edit files directly. But if you do so, you loose history feature, so probably not what you are looking for.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ANTI-SPAM SOFTWARE?

Hello !
Can anyone recommend a good anti-spam software to purchase? I have a new MAC and I use Netscape Navigator for my mail managing system. I really want to be able to block out some email users from my account - but on MAC.com we don't get that option (like we can on Yahoo for example).
So any recommendations for anti-spam software?

Set "Rules" in "Preferences," in the "Mail" application, to delete: "Sender is not in my Address Book", and "Sender is not in my Previous Recipients."
I have resorted to that BOLD move because of all the spam I was receiving that started several weeks ago. The spam was a graphic in the body of the email, which no rule would touch, except for the one as stated above, nor could it be bounced back.
It is working very well, and I am not using any other anti-spam software.

Here it is again.
Many third party "anti-virus" programs only cause misery, and account for the vast majority of user-inflicted Mac problems reported on this site.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it updated with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

Any recommendations for a recovery software for my lost photos on my external drive?

Would like recommendations for a reputable recovery software for my lost photos from my external drive that I used with my MacBook Pro.

General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

What is recommended for anti virus software?

I had a free copy of Grisoft AVG 7.0 antivirus on my PC...but now am a convert to a new Intel Duo 2 Core system...
Haven't seen much information up front on advice for anti virus software, have heard it said Macs don't really need it.
So...what is the low down and heads up on this? Is it best to have it?
Typically...anti virus software tends to go deep deep into the system, and will this affect the operating systems of OS X ???

Apple recommends that we all use antivirus software; Mac OS: Antivirus Utilities. They know that evil people will be trying to write virus for Mac OS X.
I use ClamXav. It is free. It is continually supported and I update the virus definitions daily. It has never caused an issue, but has alerted me to a number of PC virii. It monitors my Downloads folder and my email.

Can the experts here please recommend some product to record a computer screen session that then imports well into Flash?
I want to build training videos that record the screen session and my voice and am looking for a software product that can do this.

some expert here in this forum can help. There are hundreds of
solutions out there but most are just screen session recorders without voice.
A couple have a feature to add voice seperately. What we need is similar to
an actual video recording including voice where both go hand in hand with any
seprate integration.
A video camera would not be practical, but certainly there must be some software
that would provide similar recording, both the screen session and sound?
This woule be a recording of the screen session with a person speaking into a microphone.
Any recommendations?

The purpose is to keep the current at constant. So I measure the current and get the value; and send a analog signal to tell our machine to discharge or to charge in order to keep the current at constant. I need to write the program to give analog signal to machine based on the current input.
Also, the machine can communicate with user. User can monitor the machine operation statuse and current level, etc.
I want to use LabView to program, since it doesn't cost a lot of time. I saw there is LabView RT LabView FPGA, etc. I am confused whether all of these are just diffrent function for LabView or different software. Which one I should use?
For hardware, I have no idea what is compactible with LabVeiw. What I should use?
I am totally new to this. I'll appreciate a lot if anyone can give suggestions.

I would recommend having a look at the C-Series Modules. You can then either use the USB Single Module Carrier, Wi-Fi Single Module Carrier, the CompactDAQ platform or the CompactRIO platform. Here is a page that gives a detailed explanation:

You can capture to iMovie which is what I suggest or directly to iDVD6 (via 1 step or magic iDVD). Your choice.

Recommendations for Caches / Maintenance software

From reading posts, it seems that occasional caches clearing on Mac OS X Server Tiger will do wonders if you encounter certain problems with the OS. As such, I am requesting recommendations on what caches (all kinds) clearing and other necessary maintenance tasks software (preferable freeware) are available. I have read and looked but have not used OnyX and MainMenu so far.

No, I think you're confusing OS X client with OS X Server.
I've never had any cause to touch the caches on OS X Server.
With server sys-admin, it's critical to do things for specific reasons and not "just because." With no disrespect of authors to some of the shareware out there, I won't bring any of it anywhere near any of my OS X machines.
If you simply must try to do this on your server, then you should cleanly shut your server, boot into single-user mode, and cd into the cache directories and clear them.
Again, I've never ever done that, have not needed to, for OS X server.

There is no known virus for Mac OS X and most Mac users never use a-v software. If you are running Windows either in BootCamp or an emulator like VMware Fusion or Parallels, a-v software like MaAfee is recommended. That said, some Mac OS X users feel more comfortable using a-v software, and many of them use ClamXav.

Depending on your budget, operating constraints, timeframe and the transducers you're using a wide variety of equipment might suit your needs. I'd suggest calling the sales department. From NI.com, follow the Contact NI link in the top right corner of the screen. From there you can find information about getting in contact with sales. They help spec out systems all the time.
