Recommendations for Video Capture Software?

Hi,
I'm looking for screen/video capture software to record what's on my macbook screen in video format. I've been looking at Camtasia, but wanted to know if there are any other alternatives I should consider as well?
I need something that will record what I do on my macbook screen, as well as let's me annotate and edit what's been recorded. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

This is a bit strange with apple servers today. For some strange reason, there seems to be a 5-10 min. delay in my post on this one thread only ....very weird.
Oh well, I'll post the info again in hope that it sticks ....
You can capture to iMovie which is what I suggest or directly to iDVD6 (via 1 step or magic iDVD). Your choice.

  • Hardware/software recommendation for video capture prior to edit on home ba

i am a FCP user on a G5. i need to begin to load and initially edit video while traveling and then take that FC project file and load it onto my home based G5 for further work. i am considering a macbook and FC express to accomplish this task.
    my questions are:
does it matter that the new macbooks are intel processors and my G5 is not intel based? will i have any compatibility problems with SW/file transfers.
is FC Express the best SW to use for the load and initial edits?
is there a best practice recommendation for what i want to do?
    thank you.

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   use FCP HD 5.0.1

FCP will run on a MacBook. It's not support, and the Studio is not supported because of Motion's graphics requirements, but quite a few people are running FCP on basic MacBooks. Just make sure it has enough RAM.

  • Recommendations for Video Capture

I've had my MacBook for about a month now...and am looking to start messing around with some home movies.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should buy for a video capture device?
I'm not looking to spend a bunch of money, as I'm just messing around with some home movies and such.
    thanks!

  • Recommendations for Video capture card

Been capturing video via firewire through a VX2000. Using it as a A/D converter.
I would like to install an internal capture card in a dual G4 running OS 10.4.8.
    Suggestions?
    Steve

OK Steve, first off no one is making PCI capture cards anymore...an there is no HD card made for PCI at all. PCI-X and PCIe only. Second, that computer cannot handle HD captured via a capture card. HDV, DVCPRO HD...yes (pushing it). XDCAM...maybe (pushing it). Uncompressed HD? Heck no.
Not only do you need the HD capture card, but you need a high speed RAID array..and there isn't one made that interfaces with PCI. You gotta get a new machine. The one you are on will handle SD only.
With the new machine, the cheapest option is the Decklink INTENSITY PRO. This has analog ins and outs, installs in the computer (PCIe only), and runs about $400. COmponent, s-video and composite and HDMI connections only. NO SDI or HD SDI...which are the better connections for high end work.
Then you need an HD monitor...which isn't cheap. And again, the RAID array...
But...all this is getting complicated. What format of HD are you intending to work with in the near future? HDV, or HDCAM? DVCPRO HD? XDCAM? Uncompressed HD? This determines everything.
Yes, video is expensive. HD even more so. DV is cheap...HDV CAN be cheap, but get expensive if you want to do it properly.

  • Is there video capture software which will capture only the canvas and not my cursor or the way I move the canvas?

    Hi,
Does anybody know of a video capture software which only captures the canvas and not my cursor or the way I move the canvas?
I want to simulate a painting being created brush stroke by brush stroke. It would also be good if I could select the layer that it is meant to be recording.
I guess this would have to be a plugin of some sort.
If not - do you have any good suggestions of the best workflow of creating this from Photoshop to After Effects (I don't want to use revealing paths etc...)
    Thanks for any help,
    Luke

It would also be good if I could select the layer that it is meant to be recording.
That won't work. Screen cap tools by their nature always capture the display buffer of the whole active window. At best, they respect GDI "drawing layers" and regions like Camtasia does, meaning they differntiate between mouse cursors, window frames and the actual content to get more efficient compression. For the rest - see the previous answer.

  • Webcam/ Video Capture Software

I keep hearing that some logitech webcams work with Macs even though it says it doesn't. Does anyone know it Logitech QuickCam Messenger WebCam works with a mac, or if anyone can suggest a similar webcam that does?
I also wanted to know if anyone knows a video capture software for macs? I want to be able to record tutorials off my screen.

I assume your WebCam is a USB Camera.
If so, you will need at least LabVIEW and the Vision Acquisition Software for 2009 to natively aquire images from your webcam - which has to have a DirectShow Interface.
The first version where this was possible was LV8.6 and the Vision Acquisition Software 8.6 with an additional IMAQ USB library

  • Ipod video capture software

    Hello out there....
I recently purchased an ipod with video capability, so now I am trying to convery VHS movies for play on an ipod. The problem is that I am running windows xp as an os, therefore most of the video capture software is set to capture in an avi format. So I have to capture in avi, convert to mov and finally use itunes to convert for the ipod. the bottom line is that I have to spend 2 hours at each step, and I wast to do it on the fly, so the whole process takes two hours, not six hours.
I found artech356.com, and they can capture in mov, but the file still has to be converted. Any suggestions? I went to the apple store locally, and they don't have any software either, so I am not inclined to buy an apple at this time.
    Thanks,
    Andrew
    not apple   Windows 2000   works

Yes, it is interesting that I am still using windows, but they had the market share, and the hardware/software combo was less expensive and easier to obtain and maintain at the time. I checked out apple, and the only software they have to do what I want to do is a high dollar professional version, so it would take about $3000 to switch over.
It is like this, IBM is the mathematical and logical side of the brain, apple is the creative side. To function properly, we need both. I just more naturally gravitated towards the mathematical side because of my personality type. Now that I have seen the creative side, I wish to explore in greater depth, and the appropriate software that lets me do both is not apparently available yet.
The last time I actually used or touched an apple computer it was the one they first came out with in the late 70's or the early 80's. I did recently visit an apple store, and they seem to have improved since then. Do you think they will catch on? I do now that Jobs is back at the helm.
    regards,
    Andrew

  • Computer set up for video capture

I believe there are special setting of the computer for video capture.  I have done these in the past but cannot remeber how or find any info.  One setting was to send the data form the camcorder straight to the hard disc.  Can anyone help me, please ?
    johnjep

If you're capturing from a tape-based camcorder, you should capture over FireWire.
For hard drive camcorders, you'll need to use the Media Downloader built into Premiere Elements to get the video files.
Current computers can usually capture with no special set-up. Although Vista can use a bit of tweaking, as you can see if you click on the FAQs listed to the right of this forum.
If you've got a second hard drive, you can get the most efficient capture by capturing to it rather than your C drive.

    1) The N95 currently does NOT offer the facility to use the flash as a light for video capture.
    2) I don't understand your question
    3) Your GPS should work in Iran, although there may be an issue with the US (to which all GPS satellites belong to) not allowing Iran to use the satellites - not too sure about this bit.
You will need to download Iranian maps (if available) for the N95 - you can find the download page for Nokia Maps here :

  • RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ANTI-SPAM SOFTWARE?

    Hello !
Can anyone recommend a good anti-spam software to purchase? I have a new MAC and I use Netscape Navigator for my mail managing system. I really want to be able to block out some email users from my account - but on MAC.com we don't get that option (like we can on Yahoo for example).
So any recommendations for anti-spam software?
    Thank you! Pam

Set "Rules" in "Preferences," in the "Mail" application, to delete: "Sender is not in my Address Book", and "Sender is not in my Previous Recipients."
I have resorted to that BOLD move because of all the spam I was receiving that started several weeks ago. The spam was a graphic in the body of the email, which no rule would touch, except for the one as stated above, nor could it be bounced back.
It is working very well, and I am not using any other anti-spam software.

  • Advice Needed for Video Capture Device

    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a USB (or Firewire if they exist) video capture device that can take S-Video and composite connections. Could someone recommend me best one under $150 that is compatible with Snow Leopard? Also, and more importantly, does anyone know if it is possible to capture the signal via Quicktime Pro or Final Cut Pro rather than bundled third party software.
    Thanks!

I used the predecessor to the Canopus ADVC55 to load VHS tapes into a mac.  As I recall I brought the firewire signal into iMovie (could have been Final Cut Pro too, as I had both on the system). Here are the specs:  http://www.grassvalley.com/products/advc55 .     Also some comments on it at http://www.amazon.com/Hardware-ADVC-55-d-Converter-Ntsc/dp/B000HGVZG0/ref=sr_1_2 ?ie=UTF8&qid=1323954590&sr=8-2   Here's another source to buy it: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/312315-REG/Grass_Valley_602005_ADVC_55_Ana log_to_Digital.html .
They also make an ADVCmini, which I haven't used, which is probably less expensive, with specs at http://www.grassvalley.com/products/advcmini

  • Video capturing software and editing?

    Hi everyone....My first post.
I have an iTouch (i love it....my first ever apple thingy)
I am interested in podcasts for my website and for publishing on itunes and of course, synching with my itouch..
I know how to do all this and here is my question:
I use FRAPS for capturing screen video of gameplay when playing certain games, but I am not sure whether this is the best program for doing this as the quality that comes out on the itouch isnt as good as I expected.
    So, to summarise...
    1. Whats the best capturing software to use for my PC?
    2. Whats the best software to use for editinig my video?
I am using windows XP pro SP2.
Thanks in advance for your help

Since you're looking for Windows software you should probalby post your question on a Windows forum such as, as this forum focuses on compatbility issues between Macs and Windows.

  • Any recommendations for a recovery software for my lost photos on my external drive?

Would like recommendations for a reputable recovery software for my lost photos from my external drive that I used with my MacBook Pro.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
