looking for wireless/Bluetooth speakers for use with iPad, would like these speakers to run on AC as well as battery.  Any recommendations?

My experience with steaming with Apple products is done from iTunes, my music and video files from iTunes on my iMac or video from Apple Store. I sync photos and music from iTunes with iPhone, iPod Touch and AppleTV.
I have a 2TB external disk that has my iTunes library on it. All my music, TV and movies. It is hosted on my iMac
I do not know if mkv video can be played on the iPad, maybe there is an app that can do it. According to the iPad specifications the video files have to be "Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format"

  • Best wireless speakers for TV under $150.00

I'm looking to add wireless speakers for my HD TV for under $150.00.  Can anyone give me some ideas?  I'm looking at many products out there, but, once you start looking, they all have their own pros and cons and then they start looking all the same.............help?

I would just get a soundbar to go right under the t.v. rather than trying to fit wireless into your budget.

  • Wireless speakers for directv dvr

I am looking for wireless speakers to hook up to my directv dvr so I can listen to the music channels in the garage and on the deck from it. Is there anything out there that can do this?

Thanks for visiting our Community Forums. I am sorry but I do not know of a product that would accomplish this. I know there are systems out there to stream music to different rooms in your house but not to your car deck. If I run into something like that, I'll be sure to share.

  • IMac - wireless speakers for house

I want to set up wireless speakers in my house connected to my iMac. What's the best configuration for that? Do I need a receiver?

There are many ways to go about this. One popular way is to use Sonos's proprietary wireless system. It is expensive although I hear it is quite good for a multi-room setup. The only way to expand this setup is with Sonos hardware only. http://www.sonos.com/
I have built my setup using various AirPlay speakers which is an Apple technology they licence out to other parties. AirPlay works over your wifi network with third party speakers using AirPlay technology or using Apple's Apple TV (streams video as well) or Apple Airport Express which can plug into a stereo. It will only stream to multiple speakers from iTunes on a computer. iOS devices can also stream to AirPlay devices although to only one speaker at a time. With an Apple TV on the network you are also able to stream audio and video from iPhones, iPod touchs and iPads. Not sure how reliable Sonos is but you can experiance audio drop outs with AirPlay when you are on the edge of your wireless networks range, I imagine the same is true with Sonos. http://www.apple.com/ca/airplay/

  • Which wireless speakers for Imac and how?

I'm buying the airport express router today. I know it can stream music wirelessly to remote speakers. My question is: what are some good speakers I can buy and how do I configure them to receive the i-tunes music in my library?
Do I need powered speakers? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

Which speakers you get is subjective. There are plenty available. (I use Harmon Kardon SoundSticks II that I find pretty good for room-filling sound.) However, you do need to make sure that they are powered (or fed through an amplifier).
Plugging them into the AirPort Express should make them appear in iTunes at the bottom of the main window - look for "Computer" in a pop-up that you can change to your AirPort Express speakers.
It's pretty straightforward, but if you get stuck post back here
PS The AirPort Express handles the wireless part for you - you don't need wireless speakers.

  • Wireless speakers for everything?

I am amazed at how hard it has been to find out: is there a wireless speaker system that I can use with all the devices we have in our flat.  Primarily, I'm most interested in ensuring that the wireless speakers work with both my MacBook Pro (10.5.8 using OS X) AND my flatmate's new laptop (can't remember the brand).  We also both have iPhones (mine 4 and hers 4s) which it would be good to be able to use the wireless speakers with.  I get the feeling from what I've read that my MacBook Pro doesn't have the bluetooth A2DP - or whatever it's called - technology.  What do I need to get to ensure that both our laptops (one Mac and one not) can work easily with the same wireless speakers?  Thanks for any help in advance!

  • Best wireless speakers for macbookpro/internet usage?

    Hi,
I want to listen to my MBP (I-Tunes and Internet-streamed music) via wireless speakers. I use a wireless Time Capsule as my connection to the internet. My question is this: 1) how do I do this, and 2) what is the best product for around $200 or so?
    Thanks!

I would just get a soundbar to go right under the t.v. rather than trying to fit wireless into your budget.

  • Looking for ext speakers for MacBook Pro

My built-in speakers go off a lot so looking for some speakers under $100 street price (could be used) to go with my MacBook Pro.  I listen to wide variety of music but the only ones I've tried so far, Logitech Z320's had no treble or upper midrange and I was very disappointed with their performance.  Don't need to sound like $200+ speakers, just something that can take the place of the ones in the MacBook so I am not tied to my headphones all the time.

Well… on the Windows front the MBP will run as well as any other PC laptop with a similar spec so on that you should have no problems. However, there are a couple of little quirks to running Windows on a Mac (mainly keyboard and mouse) but these are very minor.
As for the game, compare to other PC hardware with a similar spec. That should give you an idea of the system requires for any game you're interested in.
is it the answer, I think it's as good as, if not better, than any other option tyou have given there are few other that will run Max OS X.

  • Suggestions for (cheap) speakers for MacAir?

I realize I'm probably just old & going deaf, but the volume from the speakers is the WORST. Headphones are fine, but not always convenient. Any suggestions for inexpensive speakers I can plug in that will actually pump out some volume (not trying to rock the 'hood, just actually hear stuff while I'm away from the computer but in the same room). Logitech has some for $15, but I want to be sure they'll be louder than what's already coming out of the computer.
    Thanks, all.

best computer speakers for very little money are a set of Klipsch
For $200 you get fantastic audio and you can dial them up to rattle the house

their extremely high rating speaks for themselves
I have a set.   Even best buy carries them.

  • Waiting for wireless covereage for many years...

Verizon wireless signal strength is weak in my home town of Manhasset, NY.  But it's not terrible--I can get by. But there is *NO* signal at my summer home in Rocky Point, NY, overlooking Long Island Sound.  These days, it should not be necessary to pay for a land-line for a summer bungalo. We've been waiting and hoping for many years for Verizon to improve coverage.  Will it ever happen?

If it's any solace, I had VZ for many years prior to buying a vacation home in the Berkshires. (I live in Patchogue) VZ coverage at the condo was zippo. I had spotty coverage even in the general vicinity. I challenged VZ and they couldn't give me assurance that changes were coming so I jumped ship to AT&T. As of a few minutes ago, I checked a coverage map on cellreception.com and found that VZ must have boosted their coverage in western Massachusetts because what was formerly a region dotted with white spots for no coverage or pink spots for maybe coverage, has become a totally red zone! I have had my AT&T for a year on August 15th and if I wasn't folish enough to sign up for a two year contract, I'm bailing on them. Their coverage is absolutely horrible on my drive to and from MA. No signal at all on NY Route 22. Can't call, be called, or check data. That's about 25-30 percent of the entire trip! No I'm not a driving phone user, those miles are when my wife is at the helm!
Maybe VZ will be upgrading soon. I can tell you that they couldn't/wouldn't tell me of any impending changes last year when I was looking around so even if they are building it right now, you son't find out until your reception suddenly improves!

  • How to use Sonos as wireless speakers for a Mac...

Here's a solution I just tried, and found that actually works!   I've listed it as an *idea* because I would assume that SONOS might be able to offer a similar solution, unless (of course) licensing issues prevent them from doing it without permission from Apple.  (Don't know... just speculating here).
This software solution provides an "airplay" driver on your mac that points to one of your Sonos players.  Once it's installed, you use it with three simple steps.
Step 1)  Open a terminal prompt (command prompt) and type airsonos.  This starts the driver.
Don't close the session.  It's OK to minimize the window.
Step 2) You use the Mac's "System Preferences..." , "Sound" to select the sonos as the output for your sound.  Now, play some music on your mac, and turn up the volume, and the sound comes out of your Sonos" instead of your Mac.   No wires.  No hassle.
Step 3) Grin from ear to ear as any and all Mac sound streams wirelessly to your Sonos!
HERE'S HOW TO INSTALL THE DRIVERS,
PLUS LINKS TO WHERE I FOUND THE SOLUTION.
(I can't take credit for creating it, but I'm so happy to have found it... thank you Stephen! ... that I'm willing to share it far and wide!)
    airsonos a Node.js application, and it's free!
You need to install the right version of Node.js (it's an older version),
and then you need to use npm (the Node package manager) which will download, compile and i
install airsonos.   It's all pretty easy.  You don't need more than basic computer skills to get it done.
    I found info here:
    https://medium.com/@stephencwan/hacking-airplay-into-sonos-93a41a1fcfbb
    and installation instructions here:
    https://github.com/stephen/airsonos
IMPORTANT NOTE: It states it requires Node.js version v0.10.33 or greater.
I tried it with the current release of Node.js (v0.12.xx) and it wouldn't compile.
When I downloaded and installed Node.js version v0.10.33, and then tried to install it everything worked!
    Here are the brief instructions:
    Step 1)
    Download Node.js v0.10.33 from here:
    http://blog.nodejs.org/2014/10/23/node-v0-10-33-stable/
or use google to find it.
Step 2) Run the install (node-v0.10.33.pkg) to install Node.js
Step 3)  Open a terminal prompt, and at the command line type:
    sudo npm install airsonos -g
This will cause the npm (the node package manager) to download, compile and install airsonos and the packages it requires.  It took about 5 or 10 minutes to complete.
    Now it's installed!
To use it, it's two simple steps:
*** First) open a terminal and at the command prompt type:
      airsonos
You should see output similar to:
    MacBook-Pro:~user$ airsonos
Searching for Sonos devices on network...
    Setting up AirSonos for Basement {192.168.0.10:1400}
    Setting up AirSonos for Office {192.168.0.20:1400}
On my machine these messages were repeated several times.
LEAVE THE TERMINAL WINDOW.  Don't close it, or kill the airsonos app.
It *IS* OK to minimize the window.
    *** Second)
Go to system preferences... (under the apple menu), select "Sound" and for "Output" create one of the airsonos outputs.  For instance, in my situation I selected .
    "Office (AirSonos)                  AirPlay".
Now play some music on your mac, turn up the volume on your mac, and listen the music come out through Sonos!
This is awesome.  You can now send steaming services to Sonos, you can output your itunes music to sonos.  Want to hear a playlist of songs from youtube... done,  amazon music prime... it now works!, etc, etc.
Many, many thanks to Stephen for creating this and sharing the info.
I didn't create any of this, I'm just sharing the information since I've wanted this feature for so long, I'm happy to finally find a quality solution that works!
    -Phil

    Phil,
Thanks for this post.  I am trying to work with Band-in-a-Box, a music generating program on the Mac, and this "hack" could be a lifesaver since my home is wired with Sonos, but the Line-in ports are not (it appears) available (other than inside the central wiring closet).
So...I got the install, and ran the program.  All seems to be fine - it says Setting Up AirSonos for ... {many, many speakers}.  But, I don't see any of those speakers available inside my /Preferences/Sound... dialog box.  Have you ever seen this problem?  Any advice?
    Thank so much!
    Matt.

  • What are the best quality wireless speakers for use with iTunes

I'm not sure which is the best forum for this.  SO here goes:
I want to replace my wired powered speakers from my iMac with wireless so I can place them further away and clean up the desptop area.  I want decent sound and volume not tinny little portable junk.  But it doesn't need to meet audiophile standards either,
What am I looking for?  Thanks.

Intel processor in you MB Pro? Need it to capture avchd.
regarding file size and the need for external drive:
"AVCHD output files are about 120Mb per minute of footage. The converted output file will be about four times the size of the input. This is because AVCHD is a highly compressed HD format and we are uncompressing it into a Quicktime-friendly high definition format. Our example 1 minute AVCHD clip becomes about 500Mb in size, after conversion.
The final size of a converted clip has a lot to do with the amount of movement in the clip. A lot of movement will mean a larger file. Action clips can be as high as 7 times the size of the raw clips."

  • Recommended PCMCIA wireless cards for Linux 2.4.20?

I am interested in any suggestions for Cisco (or other!) PCMCIA IEEE 802.11b wireless cards that are compatible with Linux 2.4.20, i.e., an upgrade of the Linux kernel is a last option!
The source files for the driver must also be available. It is preferable if the cards are IEEE 802.11g/n ready also, but this is not essential.
    Thanks for any replies!

Good luck to you. While it's slowly getting better in the 2.6 kernel line..
I've always just used the win32 driver with the NDIS wrapper in Linux. While it's not my favorite option, it works.
As for driver sources, if you do find an open source wifi driver for a major chipset like Atheros, let us all know.. :)
