Recommendations on a GREAT multiple I/O soundcard...

Can anyone recommend an EXCELLENT pro unit in the $500 to $1000 range? I'd like to graduate from my Edirol UA-25 and am interested in being able to patch in outboard gear into individual tracks.
thanks

Thanks much David. I noticed no Apogee in your list. Are they overrated?
No, I restricted suggestions to multi-channel units within the price range you quoted. ($500->$1000)
(I used the prices quoted at audiomidi.com as a reference.)
So Apogee, RME, Metric Halo, Lynx etc. were all out of the picture.
(but if you know where to get a multi-channel Apogee convertor for sub-$1000 I'm sure we'd all like to know :))) )

  • What is the recommended way to do multiple channel, single point sampling for control with an NI PCI-6255 in RLP?

    Hello,
    I am writing a driver for the M-series NI PCI-6255 for QNX. I have downloaded the MHDDK and have all the examples working. I have also enhanced the examples to do interrupt handling (e.g. on AI_FIFO interrupt or DMA Ring Buffer interrupt). My ultimate goal is to write a driver that I can use for closed-loop control at 500 Hz using all 80 channels of the NI PCI-6255. I may also need to synchronize each scan with a NI PCIe-7841R card for which I've already written a driver. I want an interrupt-driven solution (be it programmed I/O on an interrupt or DMA that generates an interrupt) so that the CPU is available to other threads while the 80 analog inputs are being read (since it takes quite a while). I also want to minimize the number of interrupts. Basically, I will need to collect one sample from all 80 channels every 2 milliseconds.
    There are many different options available to do so, but what is the recommended technique for the NI PCI-6255 card? I tried using the AI FIFO interrupt without DMA, but it seems to interrupt as soon as any data is in the AI FIFO (i.e. not empty condition), rather than when all 80 channels are in the FIFO, so more interrupts are generated than necessary. I tried using DMA in Ring Buffer mode to collect a single sample of 80 channels and interrupting on the DMA Ring Buffer interrupt, which appears to work better except that this technique runs into problems if I cannot copy all the data out of the DMA buffer before the next AI scan begins (because the DMA will start overwriting the buffer as it is in ring buffer mode). If the DMA is not in ring buffer mode or I make the ring buffer larger than one 80-channel sample then I don't have a way to generate an interrupt when one sample has been acquired (which I need, because I'm doing control).
    I saw something in the documentation about a DMA Continue mode in which it looks like you can switch between two different buffers (by programming the Base Count/Address with a different address than the current address) automatically and thereby double-buffer the DMA but there is no real documentation or examples on this capability. However, I think it would work better than the Ring Buffer because I could interrupt on the DMA CONT flag presumably and be copying data out of one buffer while it is filling the other buffer.
    Another option would be DMA chaining, but again, I cannot find any information on these features specific to the NI DAQs.
    I tried interrupting on AI STOP figuring that I could get a single interrupt for each scan, but that doesn't appear to work as expected.
    I know that DAQmx on Windows has the ability to do such single sample, multiple channel tasks at a fixed rate so the hardware must support it.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    The interrupt that will happen nearest the times that you need is the AI_Start_Interrupt in the Interrupt_A group. This interrupt will occur with each sample clock. By the second time this interrupt fires, the AI FIFO should have the samples from the first conversion. If it is easier to use programmed IO, you can read the samples out of the FIFO until you get all 80.
    Additionally, you can set the DMA to send samples as soon as the FIFO is no longer empty...instead of waiting for half full or full. This change will reduce latency for your control loop. You can set AI_FIFO_Mode in AI_Mode_3_Register to 0. By the second time this interrupt fires, you should be able to check how much data is in the DMA ring buffer and read the 80 samples when they are available. You can make the ring buffer larger than 80 samples if you see data getting overwritten.
    There is no interrupt associated with 80 samples being available in the FIFO or 80 samples being available/transferred by DMA to the host. X Series has much more flexibility with these interrupts.
    I hope this helps!

  • What is SAP recommended approach to create multiple Sender Idoc_AAE adapters channels?

    Hi All,
    We have more than 100 interfaces which receives Idocs from multiple SAP ECC Systems. What is the best approach to use Idoc_AAE sender adapter with multiple communication channels for One system and for multiple SAP systems as well.
    Q) How many communication channels we can assign or bind to one Resource Adapter(Assume InboundRA)?
    Q) What is performance impact if we create more Resource Adapter to Connect multiple SAP System?
    Please share your views to create multiple Idoc_AAE sender communication channels to connect one SAP ECC Systems?
    Regards,
    Sreeramulu Konjeti.

    Hi Vertika - It should work without changing the occurrence as it's on the sender side...
    In your mapping, you would receive all the IDOC's though the occurrence is 0..1...
    Just simply paste the payload in the test tab and see.. it should not throw any error..

  • Recommended design for using multiple PGs for one ACD

    Ref:  ICM 8.5 with Avaya Aura CM 6.3 and AES 6.3
    We have been told by Cisco that we should not have more than 3000 agents+CTI on our current PG pair.  Since we project we will exceed 3000 agents before the end of the year, we are planning to add another PG pair (with CTI).  We have several different lines of business so we just assumed that we should migrate some to be exclusively on the new PG pair.  Of course, that means we will also have to Translation Route calls transferred between the LOB.
    This set us to thinking that there might be a better way.  Does anyone here currently deal with ICM and an Avaya ACD with more than 3000 agents?  If so, can you please share your architecture?  Specifically, do both of your PG pair share the same AES with different Signal ID?  If so, do you share or separate the Switch Links?
    Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond.

    Thanks for responding, Chris.  We are not using CUCM.  We have Avaya Aura CM.  As such, our Cisco Sales Engineer was quite definitive that our PGs will support 3000 with CTIOS.  We do not use CAD.
    The dual-PG design was our plan.  However, my question is more about whether each PIM needs a separate AES Signal ID and, if so, whether each Signal ID needs a separate CTI link.  I know those are more Avaya-specific question but I'm hoping there is someone on here with a similar environment.
    I had an additional thought today:  It is possible to configure PIMs on two different servers with the same Logical Controller ID such that we would not have to change any Translation Routes.  The Services and SkillGroups would still be separate, of course.

  • Is there a recommended tutorial for editing multiple track regions?

    I've been used to DP where you define a region of time on the sequence, select all the tracks you want to affect, then proceed to do any number of things with those tracks..like, maybe nudge them one way or another to line up a punch in more precisely. For example, I was tracking in another studio where they were using Nuendo. The session was laying down 8 tracks of drums to a stereo mix of the main tune. When the drummer wanted to go back and punch in a few bars, the engineer could grab the in and out of all 8 tracks of the punch in and easily line up the in point to a precise location, as well as trim the out.
    Maybe I need to break out the manual again, but in Logic, I can set the locators, but only see the button where I can "cut" that selection, and am not sure if it's possible to move all the tracks around.
    Anyway...thanks for any direction here.

    Hello JAYUSBEEUS,
    "iMovie is meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders"
    HDD camcorders record in MPEG format which is not accepted by iMovie. If you were to buy one of these cameras, you would have to convert all your recorded video to DV format before being able to edit it.
    If you want to be able to edit your videos on your mac, your best choice is a MiniDV camcorder. Sony, Canon, and Panasonic have several models in your pricerange. My personal favorite is the Panasonic GS500, a 3-chip camcorder with very good pic quality at a reasonable price. In order to browse through some unbiased reviews go to www.camcorderinfo.com - maybe start reading here:

  • Recommended modem/router for multiple iChat

    Hi all,
    I have several Macs on a small LAN accessing the internet using ADSL.
    I am looking for a combined router/ADSL modem which has been proven to be compatible with such a configuration, knowing that all Macs should have the possibility to use iChat. That means, also, that I don't want to have to play with messy port forwarding or triggering
    Alternatively, I would be happy to hear about other solutions that worked.
    Thanks in advance.

    Say you want to upgrade your router in a year, you still have the modem... or say you move or something and switch provider, get cable or whatever else... you still have a router... If one breaks you still have the other, with the combo, you got to change both... Just my opinion, I am sure they have the same features too
    I have this http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530 and I have been very happy with it, all my macs can get on ichat at anytime, back to my mac works fine etc...

  • Recommendations for an online/offline diary?

    Hi, can anyone recommend a good, secure and reliable program to be used as a personal diary ? I will only use it for text.
    My primary concerns are :
    - security
    - ease of use
    - multiple access : I would like to be able to write when off line (then upload), but then access the entries from any location/computer (my OS X vary between Leopard and Snow Leopard & Ipad2 depending on which computer I am using.)
    Suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Check the Mac App store for the product called "Diary". It doesn't have online capability, per se, unless the online resource is mapped to Finder.
    It's only $5.99,but well worth it. The text you write is encrypted and password protected, but the inline pictures are not.

  • Multiple proxies handling

    Hi,
    I have an application with multiple threads that run simultaneously. Each thread has its own HttpURLConnection object. This object will send a http request to a webserver. I would like to be able to specify the proxy that this particular request will go thru before arriving to the origin webserver. In other words, the proxy setting is localized for each thread. Therefore, I don't want to use the system properties to set the proxy. It looks to me that HttpURLConnection doesn't have this feature. Is it possible to do it with the current JVM? If not, is there a workaround?
    Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,

    Hi Kurt,
    Thanks for the recommendation. It seems very promising. I'm trying to build a prototype to make sure that it works for me by creating a simple test program. However, I'm having some problem with it. Below is my code:
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    BufferedReader input;
    CookieModule.setCookiePolicyHandler(null);
    try
    URL url = new URL("http://w3.internal.com/cf/home/news/news_detail.cfm?article_rid=647");
    HTTPConnection con = new HTTPConnection(url);
    NVPair[] def_hdrs = { new NVPair("Connection", "close") };
    con.setDefaultHeaders(def_hdrs);
    String file = url.getFile();
    HTTPResponse rsp = con.Get(file);
    int statusCode = rsp.getStatusCode();
    if (statusCode >= 300)
    System.err.println("Received Error: "+rsp.getReasonLine());
    System.err.println(rsp.getText());
    else
    System.out.println(rsp.getText());
    catch (IOException ioe)
    System.err.println(ioe.toString());
    catch (ParseException pe)
    System.err.println("Error parsing Content-Type: " + pe.toString());
    catch (ModuleException me)
    System.err.println("Error handling request: " + me.getMessage());
    The program generated java.io.EOFException: Premature EOF encountered and didn't print out the response content as wanted. This behavior is not very consistent since I also tried others different urls and some work, some don't.
    Have you used this lib? Have you ever seen this behavior? What is the cause? Am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Anti-Virus Recommendations for Windows 7 Bootcamp Partition

    Hello smart mac users
    I am running a Windows 7 64bit Bootcamp Partition on my 27" iMac (new to Mac).
    Can anyone recommend a reliable Anti-Virus software for my Windows 7 Partition?
    All the posts I've read about Norton or Mcaffee have been bad....I've not found one good recommendation
    I've found multiple recommendations for Microsoft Security Essentials but I'm always shy of free products (you get what you pay for) ...and I read a not so great but not bad review about it online. Comments? Can it really be as safe and reliable as a paid antivirus software?
    AVG free anti-virus is also recommened here..
    Everything I've read about paid Anti-Virus software on this forum is bad...seems to cause many more problems
    I haven't heard anything bad about Kapersky on Windows bootcamp..comments?
    Anyone out there using Kapersky / Norton / Mcafee / Sophos / Others with no problems?
    I will use Clam Xav for the Mac partition...
    I've read on this forum that the bootcamp windows partition is just like running windows on a normal PC...and we should install Anti-virus just like you would on a normal PC....but I've read nothing but bad reviews when installing Norton or Mcafee on the Windows bootcamp partion....please comment
    If people can reassure me Microsoft Security Essentials is safe (or another) ..I'll use it...just need convincing it can still provide the protection required..
    I will only be using my iMac for work ....I plan on using Paragon NTFS and Paragon HFS+ to simply copy/paste working files between windows and mac partitions
    Thanks in advance for any comments/recommendations!
    VietBrad

    Security Essentials
    AVG
    Avast
    are all good. Norton and McAffee are bloated, cause system slowdowns, and are not easy to uninstall, not to mention expensive, imho. The free programs I listed above, and others, offer as good protection as any of the paid for programs. I don't know how to "reassure" you but many thousands, if not millions of Windows users are using free anti-virus apps with success.

  • How to manage multiple version of PLSQL application in database?

    Hi all,
    What are the recommended approaches for managing multiple version of plsql program in a single database?
    We can't afford to have different db instance for different version due to server resource.
    We need to keep different version so that easier to support our users who are using different version of our application.
    Please advise.
    Regards,
    Jap.

    Hi Guido,
    Yes, I thought of that as well. If really so, then schema name will have to be different.
    Anyway, just exploring if there's any other possibilities.

  • Multiple Designers Working on Same Site in DreamWeaver, HELP!

    Here are the specifics:
    Mac based design team
    Three designers using CS4
    Three designers using CS2
    Designers working on the same website
    Website is on a network drive (all working files are on the network drive, no users have website files on their local machines)
    Website is hosted on an external server (this is where we upload the files when they are ready to go live, we use DreamWeaver to upload)
    Here is the problem:
    The site we have is a medium sized site, there are a number of different pages and images in this site.
    When we start DreamWeaver, it takes forever.
    When we work in DreamWeaver on this site, it takes forever.
    There is a significant lag when opening a file or opening a folder within DreamWeaver.
    Two key problems:
    The number of delays is a problem, it adds up to a lot of wasted time.
    Starting up DreamWeaver takes forever.
    Other notes:
    If the solution works only for the CS4 users, that is okay.  Anything solution is better than the current situation.  The CS2 users will be upgraded soon enough.
    My guess is that our current setup is probably not the best method.
    The BIG question:
    What would be the best recommended way to have multiple users over a local network work on one website in DreamWeaver that is hosted on an external server?

    Well, this sounds more like an IT question, but it seems to me if 4 people are all using the same program sitting on your server, it is going to be slow.
    I dont think that some designers having CS4 and 2 has any effect, its all HTML/CSS or.... so that should not be a worry.  I would think if you purchased more DW licenses for the individual machines it would speed thinks up. They can all fish from the same server for files.

  • Can PrE do multiple specific frame searches?

    I'm trying to find a not too expensive editing program, possibly PRE 10, that will allow me to do a search in a video for specific frame locations based on criteria within a frame. I've done exhaustive searching on web to no avail so far. I've been using Corel Videostudio which doesn't have anything like that.
    Specifically I want to search the infamous Norwegian Bergne/Oslo train ride video, all seven hours of it. The video consists of the uninterrupted train ride, which by itself is great to watch except for one thing.
    Every time the train passes into a tunnel, or reaches a town, a blue sign drops down from the top of the screen with the location's name. That's not so bad, but then someone has inserted a very loud gong sound at that moment, totally destroying the relaxing ambience of the video.
    What I want to do is find each occurrance of this event, which is about four seconds long, and replace the audio gong sound with either silence or filler. The bad part is that there are easily a hundred plus of these, probably over 200.
    So I'm hoping that some program, somewhere, would be able to either find all of them at once, or quickly 'step' forward to each so I don't have to slowly play the video, stop, insert, hoping I don't miss one, etc. It would search keying on either something in the video frame like the big blue sign, or the sound, it really doesn't matter what.
    I've broken the video up into 30 minute segments to make editing easier and faster.
    Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    I know of no NLE program, that offers the ability to match, or search frames. While I have not used them all, and some many versions ago, I do not recall such a function in AVID (Liquid, or Composer), PrPro, Pinnacle Studio, Magix MovieEdit Pro or CyberLink's PowerDirctor.
    There might be some forensic programs, that can do this, but not sure that anyone, outside of law enforcement would have access to it.
    Maybe others know of such software.
    In PrE, about the best that I can think of is to use the Jog Shuttle in the Program Monitor, and visually watch, as the footage goes by very quickly, stopping when one reaches a tunnel, or town.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • New Inkjet Printer Recommendations?

    My little trusty HP 932c (from the stone age) has finally given up the ghost.
    I'm interested in getting something in the $200ish range to replace it, though I would consider going higher if features would warrant the additional cost.
    I've only just started looking around, but a couple of things have already caught my eye about some of the new HP models.  I haven't looked at others yet, though of course I'll need to try to understand the Epson line as well.
    These things would be desirable:
    1.  Decent photo printing on 8-1/2 x 11, though larger (e.g., 11 x 17) might be nice - just not necessary.  Keep in mind I considered my 932c, with its 1200 x 2400 dpi mode, to make decent prints (frankly, they look beautiful on glossy HP Premium Plus photo paper).
    2.  Wireless connection via my router would be nice.  It would free up the necessity to have the printer located near my desktop workstation, which would be convenient.
    3.  Up to now I was limted to sRGB gamut printing with the old printer.  Wider gamut color capability might be nice.  I'm not above considering a different brand, though I can't discount the fact that this old, inexpensive inkjet worked so well for so long on so many different operating systems.
    4.  The ability to print decent documents occasionally on plain paper as well.  In other words, this will not be just for photo printing.
    Your experience and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
    -Noel

    Thank you, Charles.
    Lundberg, Oy right back at ya!    I didn't say this was the only thing I print to.  I often use labs such as Winkflash for big prints.  This is a replacement for my office "quick printer" that needs to be a Jack of all trades.  And perhaps it didn't occur to you that photo printing isn't the prime reason I have a powerful workstation (though I paid a good bit less than $10K for it).  Hint:  Running a software engineering company might have something to do with it.
    I'm leaning toward an HP, e.g., Envy 120, as I've gotten long and reliable service out of my current HP.  13 years across 5 operating systems of compatibility and great looking prints tend to build brand loyalty.
