Recommendations on iPod transfer software?

Like many people, I lost all my files when upgrading to the new version of iTunes. I've seen recommendations to use software such as Yamipod to restore the music libraries on my PC from my ipod. Can anyone recommend software they've actually tried? Before I risk wiping out my music from the iPod, I'd actually like to hear from someone who's tried and succeeded. Many thanks.

I've used Yamipod on a Mac and a PC.
I've also used CopyPod on a PC.
On the occasions I've used them, I've transferred the songs back to the computer without losing a single one.

  • Recommended iPod Conversion Software?

What would you all recommend for iPod Conversion software. I have several .avi files that I want to convert to iPod. I've heard Cucusoft is a good one. There are several free programs out there, however they don't sync the audio and video together very well. I'm looking for a program that syncs the audio and video very well. I am willing to pay for the right program as well, but if a free one exists, that would work as well. I have tried MPEG Streamer, and it doesn't work for me. I have also tried Videora and it was one of the programs that didn't synch the audio and video together very well. Do you all think that Cucusoft is a good program and are they worth $40? If there is a better deal on a program that is just as good if not better, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

  • RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ANTI-SPAM SOFTWARE?

    Hello !
Can anyone recommend a good anti-spam software to purchase? I have a new MAC and I use Netscape Navigator for my mail managing system. I really want to be able to block out some email users from my account - but on MAC.com we don't get that option (like we can on Yahoo for example).
So any recommendations for anti-spam software?
    Thank you! Pam

Set "Rules" in "Preferences," in the "Mail" application, to delete: "Sender is not in my Address Book", and "Sender is not in my Previous Recipients."
I have resorted to that BOLD move because of all the spam I was receiving that started several weeks ago. The spam was a graphic in the body of the email, which no rule would touch, except for the one as stated above, nor could it be bounced back.
It is working very well, and I am not using any other anti-spam software.

hi , i cant update mi ipod touch software, a soon as the download process in finished an error message appears :" session time has expired" something like that

Disabling the computer's security software during the download and update usually resolves a network timeout error.

  • I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, got error 1602

I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, i walked away from computer and when i came back there was an error "1602" and a picture on my ipod (requesting to connect to itunes?) but WILL NOT WORK AT ALL!
What's going on?  Seems like a lot of people are having similar problems all at the same time.

From the article cited at the end of my post:
Error 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

If you have the first gen ipod touch as your information shows, then you would have to buy a software update:

  • 1st generation ipod touch Software issue

I have a 1st generation ipod touch (software version 3.13). When I attempt to update the software, it says that the software is up to date.  Can I manually force an update or is there something else I can do?

Nope. 3.1.3 is the highest possible for a 1st gen.

  • IPod's Software v1.2 VS iTunes's Software v7.0.2.16

    Hello there!
Today I risked my iPod for an update.
A few weeks earlier, I saw, via internet, the presentation of the new Apple products (because of a new iTunes update). This was how all started...
Like last year, when I was thinking about having an iPod, was delighted about all the new stuff that Apple was about to sell.
This time I was hoping to see THE ULTIMATE iPod that would eventualy eclipse my 30GB, but instead, the things that I saw were more about Software than Hardware (yes, I know about the new releases but let's keep it that way!).
Then it came the part about iTunes. The new aestetical, added to a simplier way to organize music and data, new features like artwork display and software update make it a real winner!
After that astonishing presentation, I was, like another millions, trying to download and installing the new iTunes!
Everything worked great until I was prompted about updating the new software. Like another millions, I said "YES" inthusiastically, hoping to see the new interfaces that appeard in the videoclip.
Instead, I saw and iPod that wasn't mine, and one that hadn't the features I was dreaming about: it would freeze after one scrool and it would reveal a "disfigurated" interface.
After the initial shock, I thought about the days converting my CDs, putting lyrics, putting artwork images and equalizing the right genre of music. I was, before this event, a happy and proud iPod user!
I started to think about my iPod, almost 25GB of music and a few photos. Immediatly I uninstalled iTunes and installed the previous version, thinking that was part of the problem resolved "I may have an corrupted iPod, but I think I can hear music until a new update".
Wrong! the music wasn't readable! So, in a blink of an eye, I restored my iPod with the version 1.1.1 software. ALL LOST!
After a period of sadness/rage, I installed the new iTunes denieying, of course, the new iPod software realease.
A few days back, thinking that Apple had resolved the iPod sotfware issue, I went scouting the forum's thoughts, discovering something about a 1.4 version of iPod software. At Last!
Today, I tried again (for the 4th or fifth time) to update the software to the 1.2. Waited for the 1.4 software announcement that would change everything, but nothing ocurred.
Back again to the solid 1.1.1 software.
The worst thing is that I was thinking in an iPod Nano for a gift, but due cirunstances, am I going to risk it??
PLEASE PUT THE iPOD'S SOFTWARE UPDATES AVAILABLE ON THE SITE, IN A VISIBLE POSITION. DON'T DISGUISE THE MISTAKES ON iTUNES AND IN APPLE UPDATE. THAT'S A BAD POLICY. BE HUMBLE ABOUT YOUR MISTAKES AS WE ALL DO.
    Best wishes to you all!
Now using iPod's firmware 1.1.1, (iPodSetup v8.2.160.0 dated 30-04-2006), and using iTunes v7.0.2.16 (dated 02-11-2006).
    For the time, it works..

This is my problem as well. I lost 7 days of music due to updating the Itunes software then following the instruction to restore the Ipod. After this, I lost my music and my Ipod keeps needing to be restored with no progress. My Itunes will not do anything with with my Ipod now. WHAT DO I DO TO FIX THIS PROBLEM???

  • I tried to update my ipod touch software update by syncing with itunes and now its in recovery mode?  Is it possible to get it out of recovery mode?  if so, then how?

I tried to update my ipod touch software by syncing with itunes and it put the ipod into "recovery mode".  Seems like the only option is to restore?  Is there a way to get it out of recovery mode?

    No.
Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

I get a message "The Itunes server could not be contacted, check your internet connection" when trying to check for Ipod Nano software updates. I have a 1st generation Nano and haven't updated the software for a while. My internet connection is working. Was thre a change in the internet address for NANO software updates? Do I have to reconfigure something in Itunes to point to the correct address?

What version of iTunes are you using?  The latest is 10.6.3. In iTunes, choose Help -> About iTunes to check the version number. If it's lower than 10.6.3, download the latest version from here.

  • I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod

I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod, neither of which is what I want to do.  How do I get it to shuffle songs in just one playlist?

The shuffle setting in the main menu will shuffle through the entire library as you have found out.
You need to go to settings>shuffle this will toggle through off/song/album. Once you have set this it will stay the same until you change the setting.
Now when you start playing a song in a playlist the iPod will shuffle through that playlist (or if you select your song through artist then it will shuffle through all the songs for that artist etc)

  • Itunes on my Macbook (circa 2008) won't recognize newest ipod touch softwar

I have a macbook from April of 2008 which has the latest version of itunes 10.10.01. I have apps that i've purchased from the itunes store (including a $20 german-english translator that i DESPERATELY need for class). I recently restored my ipod to factory settings because I was experiencing issues with it charging properly.
Now i've had the german app for over a year before the restore and it worked just fine. But now my computer and itunes keeps telling me that the app needs the latest version of ipod touch software in order to sync the app. When I click "check for updates" on the ipod screen it claims that my ipod touch software is up to date - but lists it as 2.2.1!!
I know that the lastest version of ipod software is MUCH later than 2.2.1 but I can't seem to convince my itunes of this. Someone help me out please! I've done everything I can think of but my itunes is up to date and i NEED the app.
    Much appreciated!!

As mentioned by IIIaass, connect to iTunes and check for updates for your ipod, see how to here: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/software-update/
If iTunes says that 2.2.1 is the latest software for your ipod, this may imply that iTunes recognizes your ipod as 1st generation ipod. See also this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2052 and try if you can update to iOS3.1
