Recommendations please on Exchange 2013 resources
I am migrating users and resources from Ex2007 to Ex2013. I have several different mailboxes on 2007 that are set up as "users", but they are really more of a shared resource Calendar, for departments to use for "time off" or departmental
to do lists. Some of them automatically accept meeting requests, but others want to have approval go through a delegate. My dilemma is these calendar mailboxes aren't really equipment or rooms, but I may want them to be approved through a delegate
like a resource. If I keep them as a user, I don't have the visibility of seeing any delegates or setting how far ahead calendar items can be reserved, but items can be double booked which is good in terms of being used as a "time off"
calendar. In 2007 we administer them by logging into the account as the mailbox and configuring them that way.
I am also making this migration with an eye towards moving to Office365, hosted Exchange, so if I have a lot of "user" accounts that are essentially calendar resources, is that going to be a license?

Anything configured as a user mailbox will consume a license on Office 365. One option would be to convert the mailbox to a Shared Mailbox. That would NOT consume a license. So, make them shared when you go to Office 365.
If you do go to Office 365 you may also want to look at SharePoint Calendars as a possibility. We use SharePoint Calendars for Paid Time Off. This also allows the calendar to control approval requests as well as we can attach a SharePoint Workflow to it.
Basically making people delegates.
Public Folder Calendar in 2013 or Office 365 could also fit the bill.

Exchange 2013 resource forest deployment, auth error with imap/pop3 clients.

We have an issue with pop/imap clients trying to authenticate.
Users log on with credentials from Account Forest, security audit shows a succesful log on and impersonation from process Microsoft.Exchange.Pop3.exe, but fails to login to mailbox.
The following warning appears in the event log:

We can access this mailbox with any protocol but pop/imap.
Anyway, I think that I found something.
In an isolated enviroenment, with an Active directory trace (Performance Monitor tool) those are the LDAP querys with some tests:
Trying to log on with an account in the same forest as the mailbox:
User string: resource.forest\administrator\userA_linkedMB
LDAP Query: ( (mailNickname=userA_linkedMB) ( !(msExchCU=*) ) ....
Success, as expected.
Trying to log on with an account in the account forest:
User string: account.forest\userA\userA_linkedMB
LDAP Query: ( (sAMAccountName=userA) ( ! (msExchCU=*) ) ....
First, in this case the query seems incorrect, I expect it filtering by mailNickname and with the third part of the logon string. Of course it fails because there isnt any user with this SAM in the resource forests.
Same test, with resource.forest\userA, sAMAccountName = userA
User string: account.forest\userA
LDAP Query: ( (sAMAccountName=userA) ( ! (msExchCU=*) ) ....
This query returns 1 matching user, but seems that pop3 process checks if its from account.forest (it isn't of course, because query is sent to resource.forest DC) and fails.
I'm not sure, but seems a bug in the POP3/IMAP login code. -
Exchange 2013 Allows Room/Resource Double Booking (By Design!)
Since upgrading to Exchange 2013 we have noticed a significant increase in users complaining about room double bookings. After a fair bit of testing we were able to narrow the behaviour down to a reproducible scenario.
First things first - we have AllowConflicts set to false on all room and resource mailboxes, so that is not the issue.
The problem manifests if the start date of a recurring meeting series is more than six months in the past.
This is the scenario which we can reproduce:
Find (or create) a meeting room which is configured to not allow booking conflicts (AllowConflicts:False)
Book one or more meetings in the room (or look for existing meetings)
Create a recurring meeting (or use an existing meeting)
with a start date which is more than six months in the past which will conflict with one or more of the bookings created or found in step 2.
The room will accept all instances of the new recurring meeting, even those which conflict with other bookings.
A variation of the scenario is to extend an existing recurring meeting series:
Find (or create) a meeting room which is configured to not allow booking conflicts (AllowConflicts:False)
Find (or create) a recurring meeting with a start date which is more than six months in the past
and which will end soon.
Book one or more meetings in the room in the same time slot as the recurring meeting
for dates past the end of the recurring meeting series.
Extend the recurring meeting from step 2 past the meetings from step 3.
The room will accept all instances of the extended meeting series, even those which conflict with other bookings.
This is new behaviour in Exchange 2013 - in Exchange 2010 these scenarios worked and Exchange didn't allow double bookings.
We opened a case with Microsoft and were eventually told that this new behaviour is 'by design'. We even appealed to the customer advocacy group and the Exchange product team still refuse to acknowledge this as a bug. As a workaround it
was suggested that we reduce the booking window horizon to 180 days, but this does not resolve the issue.
We are not happy; our users are not happy.
I'm posting here to share our findings with other Exchange users who may be seeing this issue, and to ask you to please share your experience and, if possible, contact Microsoft so that the product group might reconsider their position on this behaviour.

more than six months ago.
The current explanation from Microsoft is that Exchange 2013 only checks the first six months of a recurring meeting series for conflicts, so another way to encounter (or reproduce) this issue is this:
Find (or create) a meeting room which is configured to not allow booking conflicts (AllowConflicts:False)
Book a new recurring meeting which starts today and has an end date at least six months in the future.
Create a new single meeting instance in the same time slot as the recurring meeting, but after the end of the recurring meeting series.
Extend the meeting series beyond the date of the single meeting instance
The room will accept the update to the series and the room will be double booked.

From the error description, I would like to clarify the following thing:
Please adjust the configuration file attached to the transport hub to ensure that it either doesn't monitor system resources, or that it has a higher tolerance for when the physical server resources drops below a specified limit.

I know this error message is discussed on other topics on several different forums including TechNet but I ended up opening this as the suggestions that solved the problems with the previous threads dos not work on mine.
We have a ticketing software that runs on client computers which sends mails to local Exchange server for notifications using port 25.
Approximately 1 out of 5 mails end up getting the "451 4.7.0 Temporary server error. Please try again later. PRX5" error. I have confirmed this by running Wireshark on the clients, saw the exact error message. This has been replicated with
several client machines running Win7 & 8.
I have tried several solutions to this, one of them being this:

I still get the same error from time to time after doing this, so it is not the issue. All the records in local hosts file, receive connector is listening to port 25 on all IPv4 addresses.
The server has a single NIC and the DNS lookups are done through that single NIC, not through "All available adapters" as set by default on ECP.
Almost everyone seems to be convinced that this is related to DNS but looking at how fast I get the error message, it doesn't look like it's waiting for a timeout (maybe unrelated, just an observation). Do you think it is possible that the DNS servers themselves
are causing this issue?
Also, I see Event 5504 on the primary dns server almost all of them coming from the mail server, saying that the DNS query was invalid. It may be related.
Additional Notes:
- CU6 is applied but did not fix the issue.

- Receive Connectors do listen to separate ports 25 & 2525 -> There is a single instance of both Transport Service and Edge Transport service respectively. Anonymous users are accepted in both Receive connectors.Thank you for your post.

How to find resource mailbox property "Add the organizer name to the subject" in Exchange 2013
Use the Resource Information tab to specify the meeting information that appears in the resource's calendar:
Delete attachments Select this check box to remove attachments from all incoming requests.
Delete comments Select this check box to remove comments from all incoming requests.
Delete the subject Select this check box to remove the subject of all incoming requests.
Delete non-calendar items Select this check box to remove non-calendar items from all incoming requests.
Add the organizer's name to the subject Select this check box to specify whether the resource requestor's name is added to the subject of the request.
Remove the private flag on an accepted meeting Select this check box to remove the private flag for all incoming requests.
Send organizer information when a meeting request is declined because of conflicts Select this check box to send the meeting organizer information regarding
a denied request.
Customize the response message that organizers will receive Select the Add additional text check box to customize the message that
the requester receives when the meeting has been declined, and then type the additional information in the Additional text field.
Mark pending requests as Tentative on the calendar Select this checkbox to specify that all pending requests are marked as Tentative in the resource's calendar.
The delegate can then accept or deny the request as needed.
This is how these settings can be found in exchange server 2010(highlighted) but I am unable to find a similar setting in the admin center of Exchange 2013. I know this can be done through shell commands but I want to know where I can find the same UI setting
in 2013.
Any help is much appreciated.Those settings are not exposed in the EAC or the Resource settings in OWA, afaik. Just use the shell.

Exchange 2013 deployment design recommendations?
We are planning on upgrading from Exchange 2010 to 2013.
Currently, we have 2 Exchange servers. One server with mailbox and hub transport in our local office with users. The CAS is in a remote data center. So, whenever either server is down or being restarted, all mail stops.
We have received licenses for three Exchange 2013 servers. What is the best way to set these up so there is high availability whenever any one of the three servers is offline. Also, since we will still have the licenses for our existing two Exchange
2010 servers, will there be any benefit in keeping those in this scenario?

The current setup of your environment is not Microsoft recommended solution as there is no HA set up for mailbox hub as well as CAS
My recommendation for exchange 2013
You can have CAS servers deployed one in each datacenter
Below thing can be thought for DAG Config
In order to increase the service level which is to have one site alive when the other site is down, its
better to Move the file share witness server to a server that does not belong to neither site but it needs to have reliable network communications between both sites.
So if any of two sites fails, the DAG will have a quorum and it can remain operational. The databases will
not be dismounted and service and data access will not be disrupted.
If in case if you don't have 3 sites you can follow below( again this is not best recommended HA )
Put the FSW in the primary Data Center and set the DAG to DAC mode so you can easily do a data center
switchover in case the primary fails.

This seems to be occurring with all users (have tested a few, all display the same exact error message).
When I click on "Message Delivery Report" in Outlook 2010 or 2013, it points me to the ECP and displays this message "Warning The status for the recipient can't be determined because of a temporary error. Please try again later." I'm
not sure which log files to look at. The last time I remember it worked was before I applied SP1, I think CU3.
Our environment is two servers running Exchange Server 2013 Std. SP1 (847.32) in a DAG.

From the error description, I would like to clarify the following thing:
Delivery Reports is a message tracking tool that you can use to search for delivery status on email messages sent to or from users in your organization's address book, with a certain subject. In Exchange 2013, you can track messages for up to 14 days after
they were sent or received. Please make sure the message you are tracking isn't older than 14 days.

Booking a Exchange 2013 Room Resource Calendar with a mobile device
Can I book a Exchange 2013 Room Resource Calendar using a mobile device?
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that's possible. Scheduling a room resource requires the Scheduling Assistant functionality, which is only available with Outlook or OWA (full web client, not the Light version).

Unable to manage/create Resources, Room/Equipment, Exchange 2013 CU5

We have a mixed 2007SP3 and Exchange 2013 CU5 eviroment.
Pretty much since CU3 (first version we installed) we have had problems with resources, but since SP1 we cannot create or edit resources.
We have a root domain and three child domains, all Exchange 2013 servers are in the root domain. The Exchange 2007 servers are located in the root and two of the child domains.
When creating a Room we get this:
Note: Pulsar is the E2013 CU5 Mailbox-server, Panerai is a Domain Controller in a child domain.
The Room is the listed but when trying to open it we get this:

If you check security in ADSIedit.msc on your mailbox database object, you may find ACL entry for the group with the SID reported in the "application error event"

The "Domain\administrators"
group is not present by default on the exchange organization AD arborescence. I 've checked my customer exchange installation, it seem's the same for "Domain\account operators" group.
To check, you can :
* create a new
mailbox database, and modify the security on these database AD object to remove "Domain\account
operators" ACL (You may have to disable inheritance and copy existing security before)
* Create a ressource mailbox on the new database and edit it using EAC. If your are like me, you
will also be able to edit mailbox permission in EAC for a mailbox on the new database.
If it works, you can validate with MS support that "Domain\Account Operators" group should not have acl on your exchange organisation AD object, and remove the ACL
after a good Active Directory backup

Can anyone help? I'm at the end of my Googling!The answer has been found. In our case, we had to disable the Mailguard feature of the Cisco ASA between the CAS subnet and the MBX subnet. Essentially it was stripping AUTH commands from the SMTP handshake which meant the servers could not authenticate
to each other and establish a secured connection.
I guess for future reference, if you're getting a PRX4 error code you should look at any device that could be inspecting SMTP between your CAS and MBX servers.

We are having some problems in Exchange when customers send us emails with large attachments. It doesn't happen all the time which is weird.
The emails show up fine on iPhones although it is very slow to show the whole email and attachment.
In OWA it gives an error - Error: Your request cannot be completed right now. Please try again later.

According to your description, I understand that the message which is sent from external customers with large attachments can’t be opened in OWA and Outlook for Mac for Exchange users. Is it rights?
If that is the case, please confirm if the issue only happens with the large attachment messages. Please confirm if the message with no attachment sent from the same customer can be received and shown correctly in OWA.
Please recycle the application pools in IIS Manager to have a try. If it doesn’t work, please change the OWA to use Conversation view then check whether the issue persists.

Hi, has anyone else had trouble with an iPhone not automatically changing with the end of day lights savings last night (Aus time)? My other devices have changed ok, just not the iPhone. I have tried syncing and that hasn't worked. Any suggestions
