Recommended book for SCWCD

Hi,
Can any one suggest me the best book to refer to give the SCWCD certification. I searched the forums but did not find any. I posted in certifications group but I thought posting here might give me quick and accurate reply with most of the java enthus in this group.
SUN recommends SCWCD by Hanumant Deshmukh. I have seen the reviews on this book and are really very bad. Which if these 3 is the best: Book from WROX publications or O'Reilly publications or the above by Hanumant Deshmukh.
Please suggest.
Thanks in Advance.

I'd try posting in a few more forums as three is not enough.

  • Recommended book for learning Illy?

I'm going to attempt to impart the joys of Illustrator to someone.
What would you recommend as the best book for them to purchase?
Classroom in a book?  Something else?

I could tell some things about the most famous (or most sold) Illustrator "schoolbooks" on the US American and European market (don't know the Asian or Australian market, or other markets).
But as the authors might be aggrieved about it, I'd only do one non-committal suggestion: Don't use those schoolbooks. Instead, dive into the programme and play and experiment like a girl with her toy blocks.
Almost always better than reading the schoolbooks. Some people, however, do need the schoolbooks. I do know and respect it.

  • Recommended books for Sharepoint Server 2007?

I'm looking into Sharepoint for Intranet access and possibly other projects (like Case Management). Can someone recommend some books that cover setup, webparts, interaction with other Applications, etc...?
    thanks,
    Carlton.

I'm still getting into this myself ... I started with the Administrator's Companion, and honestly I would not not recommend it for a beginner.  And this coming from a person who actually PREFERS to read big bulky tech manuals over stuff like novels.  But for that particular book, Oh my goodness . . . someone needed to edit it back down just a tad.   Do not need entire chapters on why microsoft designed the product the way they did.  And how can you publish an 1100 page tech-heavy book and NOT included a stinkin' glossary?!?
    OK, rant over.
A few others I'm starting to look at -
Step by Step Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 - mostly for end-users with how-to's once the beast is magically set up and ready for them to start using.  Also missing a glossary.
Sharepoint 2007 Unleashed (SAMS publishing) - Also missing a glossary.  But it looks to me like it's got a good approach with heavy technical side.  Practical stuff like implementation, design, firewall administration, etc.
Sharepoint 2007 Definitive Guide (O'Reilly) - Also missing a consolidated glossary, but does have some mini-glossaries throughout.
What I ended up doing was going to Microsoft's site, and doing a search for "Sharepoint Webcast."  There are a lot of on-demand ones out there, some very good, some not so good. But if you download them for playing later, you can run them at about 1.4 speed and zip through a 60 minute presentation in about 40 minutes.  As well as fast-forward when they're talking about stuff you don't want to see.  I would highly recommend this approach if you're just hoping to see some good demos of the product in action with some technical discussion included.

  • Recommended books for Oracle 10g

I'm new to this group, so my apologies in advance if this is not the appropriate group for this question. If it is not, please steer me in the right direction. Thanks!
Here's my situation: I'm currently a Microsoft SQL Server developer and have been for about 6 years, so I'm fairly conversant with SQL. Our company is in the process of purchasing an application that runs under Oracle 10g, and I need to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can about 1) being the Oracle DBA for our (small) company, and 2) developing in Oracle SQL.
Are there any specific books some of you would recommend for my particular situation (beginning level Oracle user, intermediate/advanced in SQL)? Any and all advice/suggestions/help will be gratefully accepted.
    Thanks in advance --
    Carl

First thing I would recommend is going in the OTN and download the 2 day dba article
and the top 20 Oracle 10g features

  • Recommended books for Oracle SQL power user

I am an OCA 11g preparing for 1Z0-047 [Oracle Database SQL Certified Expert]. Passing 1Z0-047 is not my sole purpose. I wish to become SQL power user.
What books do you recommend me except that from Steve O'Hearn? I saw there are quite a lot of advanced SQL books on Amazon. Which one a must have without PL/SQL or other programming language?

Other than Steve O'Hearn's book ?   "Pro Oracle SQL"  (Apress)  by Karen Morton et al.

Why do you expect us to create duplicate replies, replying to you, when we know they already exist in these forums? There seems to be a strange believe in many people asking this kind of question that "personal opinions" are somehow more useful if they are posted in response to a newly posted question and not posted in response to another identically phrased question.
Or, they could simply be egocentrical douche bags who don't care if they ask the same question that's already been asked a thousand times before.

  • Recommend good books for learning java?

im using Java How to Program, Deitel&deitel.

There's a lot of online reference available, too:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/second_edition/html/j.title.doc.html
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/index.html
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/index.html
There's links to all the online documentation, as well as to a few recommended books that you can buy, at:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/index.html
As for specific book, sorry I can't help you. I personally learned a lot more Java by browsing through the API reference than I did by checking out coding examples. But that might only be because I already had a decent background in programming when I started. If you start Java as your first programming language, then an example and explanation filled book would be really useful. Like I said, sorry about not being able to provide any solid recommendations.
Hope that helps though. Check out those links, they are pretty useful. The tutorial is pretty helpful sometimes, too.

  • Anyone Recommend a Reference Book for Pages?

Specifically, I'm interested in a reference book for the latest version of Pages--just downoaded it from the App Store--for creating books to be exported to epub and viewable in the iBook app. I'm a print book designer of 22 years' experience, so I don't really need a beginners book on Pages unless it really, really covers making book for export to epub.
Preferably something I can read on my iPad in either the iBook app, the Kindle app, or even as a PDF. (A public doman--free--book would be really nice at the moment.
    Thank you.

  • How Do I transfer existing I-tunes library which is on old Pc to new mac book for I-tunes use?

We recently purchased a new Macbook pro, along w/an Apple Time Capsule(2TbHD-wireless router).
We have a pretty significant size (21GB) I-tunes Library located on our dinosaur Vista (64) terd of a Pc.
We have several copied Cd's in this Library in addition to multiple Songs purchased under different Apple Id's overtime in I-tunes.
We were able to transfer a copy of the 21GB library (wirelessly) to the time capsule. (which seemed to take a long time...2hours.)
Both computers are now on the Time Capsule home network.
The question we have is what is the recommended way for us to utilize all that is in our 21GB Library with the new Mac book.
Should I, in I-tunes advanced preferences identify the library location as the Time Capsule...?
Or would it be best if I transefered the 21GB to the Mac books hard drive?
    Sincerely
    Bill

  • Has anyone successfully used a "WD My Book for Mac" via NAS (plugged into USB port on router) as a Time Machine back-up drive?

Has anyone successfully used a "WD My Book for Mac" via NAS (plugged into USB port on router) as a Time Machine back-up drive? Apple support tech tried to tell me it wasn't possible and that the only NAS Time Machine could back up to is the Time Capsule, but I'm not buying it. I know it's doable, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which External HDDs will work and which ones won't.  If not My Book for Mac, is there an External HDD that will work? (Running OS X 10.9.1 - Mavericks, btw...)

Given the nature of backups, my recommendation has always been to use a strategy that is unequivocally supported by Apple. As you already determined Apple Support unequivocally informed you that your proposal will not work, unless your router is an Apple AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule.
The exhaustive list of devices supported by Time Machine amounts to the following:
AirPort Time Capsule's built-in hard disk (any model)
External USB hard disk drive connected to a Time Capsule (any model)
External USB hard disk drive connected to an AirPort Extreme (current model only)
A hard disk drive directly connected to your Mac
    That is all.
Use whatever backup device you want, but you should be aware that this site is full of reports of misery from hapless individuals who had been using NAS devices for Time Machine backups, only to find that they were incomplete, corrupted, or useless when they were required. Apple won't care if you lose your data while using a Time Machine configuration specifically excluded from their technical support documents.
