Recommended configuration tasks before starting to use the system

Hello,
I am a real Mac Newbie, just got my first Macbook Pro ...
On Windows-systems, there were several config-tasks that should be done at first done before doing anything with the system (data migration) ... like creating partitions ... generally speaking, tasks that cannot/shouldn't be done later.
Are there any similar tasks, that should be done in the very beginning (besides software updates)?
I also did a search in this discussion forum, but couldn't find anything. If I missed it, please let me now the link.

Like Roger says there aren't really any software-related "configuration tasks" that have to be done with a Mac, at all. Just use it, close it when you're done, and open it again when you want to use it again. Things are simpler on a Mac. I admit that it might take a little while to get yourself used to the idea, but you'll find its much better once you do.
One thing I'd like to add is that it can be a good idea to calibrate the battery on your MBP just after you get it. This works in the battery a little and makes sure that you'll get the most accurate readings from the battery life menu.
I can't really think of any tasks that have to be done when first getting a computer that can't be done later... Just enjoy the machine! And if you have any other questions, don't hesitate!

Essbase 11.1.2 EPMVLD-01005: Not all recommended configuration tasks

I get this error when I run my validation or EPM System Diagnostic scripts. How/Where do I check logs to get the details of what dint work? Everything works fine , essbase works fine, eas works fiine, studio works fine. Just want to be sure what this message below shows up. Should I just ignore it?

How do you know it is a definite problem, I have seen errors in the installation logs it doesn't always mean there is a problem.

Well it started like this I've been away for 12 days and I usually inplug things before I go on vacation, I
Come plug everything back in start up and it's stuck on the grey screen with the ape logo and the spinning gear. I left about 3hrs on this then assumed its struggle to find the start up disc so I plug the original DVD start up disc in. Then it start up with that to the install screen and could find a hard disc to install to? So I eject that DVD and try with the other DVD. And now this is where I am now.
I have a password set on my start up and guest user. I am just trying to start up as guest user and the gear has stopped spinning and now I just have a grey screen with apple logo.
Ups I now have a grey screen with no apple logo put the screen is textured.

My battery dies quicker than before, even without using the phone .aslo it shuts down unxpectedly (sometimes shuts down at 30% then i cant restart it until i blog it to the charger) and sometimes jumps from 40% to 20% or from 20% to 3%

i have done many things people recommanded it for me like :
restore : i've done two restores and it gets better for the first 1-2 weeks then it gets worse than before.
also deleted my music list (19gb) in order to make this better (as recommended) but it still the same
my screen brightness is always ALWAYS low , almost the lowest.
i close the apps when i finish using them ALL OF THEM
i dont use the camera and flash , almost rarely. just to save battery.
i dont use the location service always.
i dont charge my phone until it shuts down and i dont unblog it until it reachs 100%
basically i have tried eveything.

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
      the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
           because it is three times faster than wireless.

My granddaughter put the Start Up Disk in the drive inadvertently and now the drive will not eject it or start up using the HD. I have tried all of the suggestions for opening it that appear in the manual. Help?

It's a tray loading drive, there should be a little hole next to it, just large enough for a paper clip. Stick the end of the paper clip in it and the tray should open.

Extracting Time without using the System Date and Time

Hi, can I know how to process a task at this particular time eg. 6PM everyday without using the System Date and Time..

You could use a timer...assuming you had some good reference point when you started so you would know that from your starting point it's now 6pm.

The particular model of MacBook Pro is a key detail here, as the Mac model will determine the oldest version it can boot, as well as whether it'll boot more current software.
AFAIK there is and was no Lion installer DVD available. It was a download. AFAIK, the last DVDs commonly available were for Snow Leopard 10.6. Snow Leopard DVDs are still available in the Apple online store in various countries, if your MacBook Pro is old enough to be able to boot that version.
If your MacBook Pro purchase with Lion wasn't registered with Apple, then you'll have to discuss this directly with the Apple Support folks, or repurchase Lion from the Mac App Store (which will usually involve a call to Apple for a redemption code as it's old software), or you'll "purchase" (it's free) Mavericks OS X 10.9 and wipe and install that assuming your MacBook Pro supports Mavericks. If you didn't purchase the MacBook Pro from Apple (and it was shipped with an older release), then you'll end up acquiring a redemption code from Apple for Lion, or installing Mavericks.
For completeness and given you're probably already aware of this, the usual approach for restoration with recent OS X versions is via the recovery boot (more details). If the disk is wiped and you can't get Lion, then you'll probably end up reinstalling with Target Disk Mode using another Mac with a compatible FireWire or Thunderbolt port and a cable. Or visit the local Apple Store.
sputniki: Once OS X 10.7 or 10.9 has been reinstalled, yes, getting Time Machine configured and going is undoubtedly on the agenda. But had there been a viable backup here, I expect jianghua would have used it.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

A Microsoft technical advisor said that the "retail copy" of Windows 7, 64 bit Home Premium would not work with Boot Camp to put the Windows operating system on the IMac. She said that I would have to use the System Builder copy of Windows 7 to put it on my iMac. An Apple technical advisor told me that I had to use the "retail copy" of Window 7 because that was the one used by Apple when they developed the Boot Camp program. I have also seen some articles from Apple that suggests that both copies of Windows 7 would work OK. Does anyone have any experience that shows which one or both I should purchase to put on my computer?

I used the 64-bit System Builder Edition when I bootcamped my 2010 iMac a couple of years ago. Worked perfectly--installed a very lean system. Without all the extra cr@pware that comes preinstalled on name-brand Win computers, the SBE OS actually works darned well.
However, that was under Mac OS 10.6.8 which remains on that computer for compatibilty reasons not related to Windows. Haven't BCed any newer Mac OS, so your mileage may vary.
