Recommended Flip Case with Battery Backup

Hi all.
Does anyone have an recommendations for a leather flip case with battery backup for an iPhone 5 (Not C or S)?
I use to have an old 3gs and had the Dexim version of the case I am looking for but they don't seem to be manufacturing one for the 5.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind regards.

agree, i just flip the phone backwards so that the case is against the phone

  • Will I damage my iPhone 4s if I use a flip case with magnetic fastening?

I want to buy a case that I can use to protect the whole of my iPhone and so I need to buy a flip case with a magnetic fastening. However, I have heard rumour that this will damage the compass and navigation on my phone and other various utilities and also ruin the actual touch screen. Is this true or am I safe to go ahead and buy a case?
    Thank you for reading :-)

No, It will not damage the compass but it might cause it to be inaccurate.

  • Recommendation for case with a clip and protection on all sides, snug fit.

I'm looking for a case with protection on all sides, with a clip, with a snug fit -- i.e., not designed for ever make / model (not one size fits all). I bought the case at the Apple store with a clip and a snap, but the top of the phone is mostly unprotected (uncovered) and I don't like the flap with the snap because it does not close correctly unless I stop what I'm doing and look at it to make sure the snap lines up (i.e., the flap has too much extra material and does not line up automatically with the snap).

Otterbox Defender case which provides excellent protection and probably the best protection of all available cases which includes a clip.

  • Any comments on battery backup

any comments on battery backup, size of backup, favorite brand?

What is your goal with battery backup? You can invest hundreds in a battery backup (UPS) system that will allow you to keep your computer running for an hour until the power turns back on, or you can invest a much smaller sum (~$100) to get a UPS system that will provide you with enough time to safely shut your system down in the event of a power failure. I chose the inexpensive solution by purchasing a 1000 VA UPS from my local discount warehouse store. I have been quite happy with it, although after about 4 years the lead acid battery wore out and required replacing.

  • Are there flip cases for iPod Touch?  If so, which would you recommend?

I'm in the market for an iPod Touch. I'd like to get a case/cover for it that would function the way the flip cover did on the SONY Clie SJ33 or the Palm T3 worked... much like the communicators on Star Trek!
Does anyone make such an accessory? Are there certain ones you would recommend?

Well, I've received my brand new IPT and still don't have a case!
I've researched the cases suggested here (thanks for the tips!) and scores more (far too many). I cannot seem to find a flip case WITHOUT a magnet! And given what I've read in threads here, I really don't want to risk a several hundred dollar device with a magnetic clasp case. I realize that lots of folks use them without problems, but I keep finding posts from people who have real issues!
And strangely, the Apple Store carries most of the Marware cases EXCEPT FOR THE FLIP CASE (the one I was leaning towards), which is their only case with magnets! Is Apple trying to tell us something?
(I wish I had just bought the Belkin Folio case when it was free after rebate on Black Friday from Amazon!)
As a temporary fix, I've put some thin clear vinyl wrap around the IPT (left over from trials years ago with my Palms) and will jerry rig something with my Palm T3 flip cover-- it's perfectly sized and right form factor! A Palm iPod Touch!
I'm now debating a combo of Power Support Air Jacket with the Marware Flip Vue. And simply gambling on the magnetic clasp problem!
Any thoughts? Reactions? Am I way off base for worrying about the magnets?

  • Z10 flip case flaw draining battery

Picked up a BlackBerry branded flip case for my Z10 today, fitted it to the device, and after a few hours I noticed that that my battery had drained dramatically.
After a bit of investigation, I think it is down to a flaw in the case. The cover of the case has magnet which wakes/sleeps the device as you open and close it. Pretty neat in principle, but the edge of the cover overhangs the edge of the phone, and when it is pushed up against something in your pocket or bag, it raises the centre spine of the cover away from the screen, which immediately causes the device to wake up (see video illustrating this here).
This happens pretty continuously if your phone is loose in your pocket or bag, so battery is constantly being drained by the screen.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a way around it?

Your description makes sense. If the screen is being toggled on very often the battery will go down faster for sure.
I use a simple Gel Grip case. I set the phone to sleep or standby after 60 seconds. I have no battery issues with the phone. I found with the newest software update the battery management is improved.

  • Why are there no iPhone 6 battery cases with a lightning input port for charging instead of a micro USB?

Why are there no iPhone 6 battery cases with a lightning input port for charging instead of a micro USB?
Does it have something to do with the MFI certification? Is micro USB just cheaper?
I don't want to have to carry around another cable and it seems like this would be a good product. What am I missing?

    sanjaykd wrote:
    Valid point.
So can I ask why there are no MFI certified lightning female ports on battery cases? Or more so, does this certification even exist?
    And why not?
This is a user-to-user technical support forum. There is no one here from Apple to answer "why". Again, I would recommend contacting the manufacturers or use the Contact Us link at the bottom right of every page for information on how to contact Apple directly.
I suspect that manufacturers may view the more standard microUSB charging port as a selling point. Those types of cables are cheaper and ubiquitous.

  • Problems with Roxfit flip case.

I have had several occasions now where my phone is freezing. I think the problem is caused by the flip case. It seems that if you don't lock the phone before closing the flap that the phone thinks it's screen is being touched. When i open the flap the quick settIngs / notification bar has been opened and the phone seems to have frozen or like its trying to catch up with multiple presses.
Anyone else had anything like this?

Hi and sorry for my englisch...
My wife owns the Xperia Z1 Compact and this case (Roxfit):

and she has the same problem. When you open the case and unlock the phone, sometimes the phone go crazzy and its like the upper task bar touches him self (like you said: trying to catch up with multiple presses)...
My friends wife has the same phone and the same case... and the same problem.
I serch the internet for people withe the same problem, but i found only this thread... My friends wife changed the case for another one and it solve the problem, so i dit the same for my wife...
Btw the Roxfit flip case have a strong magnet (i dont known what for) maybe thi is the problem...

  • Ipod with video backup battery

    hi there,
i may be posting in the wrong place, but i see no discussions on the apple store.
the belkin tunepower rechargeable backup battery apparently won't work with the ipod video.
is there one coming out in the near future ? does anyone know ? when watching videos i only get 2 1/2 or 3 hours of watching which doesn't really seem like a long time.
    just a wondering
    thanks !

this is the one i want but it says not compatible with ipod video

masna, now that you have pointed out that the AA battery backup will work, i'm happy, i just wanted a thinner one.
and yes i understand how bulky the ipod would have been had they gone with the standard battery route and these ipods would probably not be as popular had they done that.
so i will be happy for now, but hope they come out with a rechargeable one for ipod video in the very near future.

  • Case with external battery

Is there a case with external battery coming for iphone 4?

Oh, OK, probably I was wrong. They "prioritised the charging – phone first, then external battery – so you would always have the internal battery in the best possible state."

Not so sure yet... Anyone has any comments?

  • IPhone 4 case with extra battery

Hello, i am wiling to buy a case with extra 1900 mah battery ( a polymer case with a battery included on the bottom of the case with on-off switch and four power indicator leds). I just wanted to know if these are so efficient like they say.

Yes I saw the Mophie in the Apple website but too expensive here, it retails 65 euros (84 dollars) and checking on Ebay I found other models with the same specs for 20 bucks. My battery seems to work fine, the problem is here where I live, the coverage is not very good and the phone drains most of the battery everyday trying to get range all the time, so using it normally my battery is flat at 7 or 8pm very frecuently. I think one of these extra power packs would help.

  • My iPhone 4s's battery dying with battery still left?

I've been noticing recently, that my iPhone 4s keeps dying before it has 15% left. It doesn't even come up with any warning that the battery has a certain amount left, it just turns off unexpectedly (and when I try to turn it on, it comes up with the red battery thing). I could be doing anything (even taking pictures) and it suddenly just dies. When I put the charger in, it turns itself back on and today it said it had 29% of battery left and charging. The battery may be out of sync because I haven't charged it for a few days and it stayed at 40-29% (though I only used the stopwatch for the past few days which may explain why the battery hadn't gone down much).
I cannot take it to get someone to look at it because- a) I bought it off eBay so someone else owned it before me b) the warranty has ran out already (I checked online on the apple warranty checker thing).
I have dropped it twice in the past 7 days, but I don't drop the phone often and I have a protective flip case which seems to stop it getting more scratches (it already has a small crack and loads of scratches from the previous owner, though they never mentioned anything about them- didn't even mention anything about water damage so I doubt there was any water damage to it).
If anybody could help, I would be really grateful

  • What is a good nano case with a lanyard?

I received a 4G iPod nano for Christmas, I love it. I also want to protect it, so I want a case/protective cover. However I want one with a lanyard or some sort of clip that I can attach to a neck strap. I would very much appreciate recommendations. What do you like or dislike? Thanks in advance.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I spent a lot of time checking reviews in iLounge and other places, and found it hard to choose. Unable to decide, I happened to be in Wal-Mart yesterday and came across the Belkin flip case. The price was good(< $20), the color nice, and it seems to offer a lot of protection. I worry most about dropping my nano. While the Belkin case is bulkier than I wish, it has a belt holder to which I was able to attach a cord to use as a lanyard rather like the difusi valet case, which looked really nice. iSkin duo was tempting, but I could not figure out from the pictures on the internet if I could somehow attach a cord. At any rate, I am going to use this case for a while, until or unless I see something that is exactly what I am looking for.
Thanks to all again for all of the information and suggestions.

  • I would to know what is the better option, mac book pro with CA on, or use with battery until it`s  discharge

I have one doubts if is preferable  work with mac book Pro all together with battery and to connect it when discharge or  work with the connected to CA cable.
I read in somewhere apple do not recomended work with the CA cable all the time, but in other articles said that its no problem if you realize a complete cilce of discharge an charge one time at month,
    thaks for help

Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles down on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery, but not plugged in all the time. When not being used for several hours, turn it off.
And best "tip" is if its near a socket,...plug it in as long as you can (especially at home) since cycle count on the battery are the "miles that wear out the tires (battery)", however again, not plugged in all or most of the time.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
"Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time."
General rule to remember of Lithium batteries is:
Never drain them LOW  &  never store them HIGH
While cycle count is commonly seen to be the “miles” on your Lithium Ion pack cell in your Macbook, which they are, this distinction is not a fine line at all, and it is a big misconception to “count charge cycles”
*A person who has, for example, 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 50-60% remaining of a 100% charge has better battery usage and care than another person who has 300 charge cycles at say 15% remaining on a 100% charge.
DoD (depth of discharge) is far more important on the wear and tear on your Macbook battery than any mere charge cycle count.  *There is no set “mile” or wear from a charge cycle in general OR in specific.    As such, contrary to popular conception, counting cycles is not conclusive whatsoever, rather the amount of deep DoD on an averaged scale of its use and charging conditions.
(as a very rough analogy would be 20,000 hard miles put on a car vs. 80,000 good miles being something similar)
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your Macbook and therefore you cannot overcharge it when plugged in and already fully charged
*However if you don’t plan on using it for a few hours, turn it OFF (plugged in or otherwise) ..*You don’t want your Macbook both always plugged in AND in sleep mode       (When portable devices are charging and in the on or sleep position, the current that is drawn through the device is called the parasitic load and will alter the dynamics of charge cycle. Battery manufacturers advise against parasitic loading because it induces mini-cycles.)
Keeping batteries connected to a charger ensures that periodic "top-ups" do very minor but continuous damage to individual cells, hence Apples recommendation above:   “Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time”, …this is because “Li-ion degrades fastest at high state-of-charge”. This is also the same reason new Apple notebooks are packaged with 50% charges and not 100%.
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your Macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
A lot of battery experts call the use of Lithium cells the "80% Rule" ...meaning use 80% of the charge or so, then recharge them for longer overall life.
Never let your Macbook go into shutdown and safe mode from loss of power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
The only quantified abuse seen to Lithium cells are instances when often the cells are repeatedly drained very low…. key word being "often"
The good news is that your Macbook has a safety circuit in place to insure the battery doesn’t reach too low before your Macbook will auto power-off. Bad news: if you let your Macbook protection circuitry shut down your notebook at its bottom, and you refrain from charging it for a couple days...the battery will SELF-DRAIN to zero (depending on climate and humidity)…and nothing is worse on a Lithium battery being low-discharged than self-draining down to and sitting at 0
Contrary to what some might say, Lithium batteries have an "ideal" break in period. First ten cycles or so, don't discharge down past 40% of the battery's capacity. Same way you don’t take a new car out and speed and rev the engine hard first 100 or so miles.
Proper treatment is still important. Just because LiPo batteries don’t need conditioning in general, does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesn’t need conditioning.
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
    Storing your MacBook
If you are going to store your MacBook away for an extended period of time, keep it in a cool location (room temperature roughly 22° C or about 72° F). Make certain you have at least a 50% charge on the internal battery of your Macbook if you plan on storing it away for a few months; recharge your battery to 50% or so every six months roughly if being stored away. If you live in a humid environment, keep your Macbook stored in its zippered case to prevent infiltration of humidity on the internals of your Macbook which could lead to corrosion.
