Recommended Non-HP All-In-One?

I have a new iMac running Snow Leopard. It has largely obsoleted my HP DeskJet 952c color inkjet printer, and I am thinking about getting a new one. I say that it is obsoleted because there is no HP driver for it; the Mac OS supplies a generic Gutenberg (no longer known as Gimp Print) driver.
When I first got this HP printer, it worked very well! Double sided printing, features. ease of use, but as the Mac operating systems progressed, the features and ease of use diminished as HP failed to update drivers. The ink cartridges have never gone out of production, however!
So my next printer will be one that is Mac friendly, hopefully with a history of supporting its products for a decade or longer.
Any nominees?
Thanks.

driverless

I've been using an HP C7280 all-in-one for quite a while now (on a Mac Pro) with no difficulties. It too does double-sided printing, scans well (and has an input tray). But given that the printers evolve quickly and are 'loss leaders' for the ink cartridges, it may not be realistic to expect drivers to be maintained for more than 2-3 years.
The links at
h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareListos=219&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=60653
suggest that HP supoorted it for nigh on 5 years after the printer series introduction.

  • Recommendations for printer/all in one for use with 10.9+? Help!

Does anyone have recommendations for a printer/all-in-one that will work with Mavericks? Monochrome (b&w) laser printer/all-in-one preferred. This is for a small office (5-8 people). Frequent pdf printing and 30+ page documents.
Right now I'm looking at Brother MFC-7860DW (might need something with a larger capacity), Brother MFC-8710DW, Epson WorkForce WF-M1030 (again, may need something w/ larger capacity), and Canon Laser imageCLASS MF4770n or Canon Laser imageCLASS MF4890dw. Also have looked at Canon imageCLASS MF6160dw but reviews are iffy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your help and input, diggernyc. If I was going to say that my question had been answered I certainly would have chosen your response and not my own. It seems silly that you can't undo marking a post as "solved".
If anyone has suggestions, they are still appreciated. Thanks!

  • Setting up C340 20" non touch all in one pc/backup questions

Hello there I have just bought two C340's and I am nervious about setting them up, I have gone through the prompts and it says I am up and running now.  But as it came with windows 8 preinstalled I don't know if I should be backing up Windows 8?  I says stuff in the instructions about if you install you own OS to create a partition otherwise if you install it in c drive it will be wiped as part of the onetouch backup?  But I am not sure if I have read this correctly.  Should I be creating a recovery disk..of the OS or other parts? If so how? I also got a disk which says 'drivers' but it was never asked for in the basic setup prompts, and the pc says it is ready to use, so am I to suppose this is a spare copy? Lastly I have read alot on this forum about the re-sizing/repartitioning the c drive and the effect this has on the onekey back up.  I don't know if this also applies to my C340 but it scares the hell out of me, I daren't touch anything now, and if the same applies to my pc than the other people having c:/d: drive/onekey backup issues should I be saving everything to the d drive as the c drive is nonexistant, fills up fast and stops the onekey dead?  Thanks in advance.

    hi confuseddotcom,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
    Regarding your questions:
    1. For a brand new PC, It's highly recommended to create a recovery disc so that in event of a system crash, you can always restore the computer to factory defaults. Check this guide on how to create a recovery disc on Windows 8. As an alternative, you can use Aomei Partition Assistant Home Edition or EaseUS Disk Copy Home Edition to clone the HDD.
    2. The driver disc contains softwares and drivers for your Lenovo C340. I recommend you keep this disc just in case to save you the hassle of downloading the drivers on the lenovo website.
    3. If you're PC came with a 500GB or 1TB HDD and has partitions, you can save your files on the partition that has more free space. If you resize the partitions by using disk management, the OKR functionality might get corrupted. Make sure to check this guide on how to create a recovery disc on Windows 8.before you resize the partition.
    Hope this helps.

  • Non printing all in one

    PSC 2410 running XP sp3.
No error message. Printer printed a file perfectly, when directed to print a second copy,  page  ejected 1/2 way, then printing starts but no print and page ejects as tho completed. Same result when trying to copy a text document on the glass which would indicate not a driver issue. Print heads traverse very rapidly instead of slower as when printing text. Tried disconneting USB and power cord, reconnect, same result. Zero ink applied to paper yet the ink cartridge seemed fine on the first page when it printed.

    Hey,
Make sure you are using the Hindi font drivers built into the Windows OS and not a 3rd party downloaded Hindi font package.  It is possible that the fonts you are using aren't compatible with the print driver you are using.  As well, it is possible that you need to download the drivers from the India support page for your printer.  I will provide a link below to this page.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al-108718-3&cc=in&dlc=en&lc=en...
What software are you printing from that is not being able to print out Hindi fonts?

  • All in one laser recommendation?

I apologize if this is not the appropriate forum, but I am looking for a recommendation for a all in one printer/fax/scanner for very low volume home use. It needs to be a monochrome laser, have ethernet built in, flat bed scanner (but not necessarily photo quality), and small foot print. Previously I have had only stand alone printers and scanners, so do not know which brands/models might offer good Mac support. Two that I have noticed online are the HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf, and the Brother MFC 7840W. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Is there a specific reason you are only interested in laser, the reason I ask is HP just released a new business inkjet series designed to be lower cost of operation than a laser. Also the inks are pigment based so the inks are pretty water proof. If you are at all interested it's the Officejet Pro 8500 series, there are three versions. Rather than going through the features the link to HP's site is:

  • Looking for new All in One. Is Officejet as good as Photosmart? Please recommend an All in One.

I have the HP Photosmart C7180 All in One that's a few years old and is starting to give me a lot of errors (mostly ink level errors).  I'm thinking about replacing it, because I want one that doesn't use as much ink -- and one that has a bigger scanner bed (at least 11 x 14 or bigger).  I'm a budding artist and I want to have the ability to scan in my drawings.
However, I do print a few photos now and then.  Does anyone know if Officejets will print decent pictures?
Please recommend an All in One (the newer the better) for my needs.

Thanks! It sounds like a potential nightmare. Does
anyone have a different experience? I'm not
committed to an all-in-one, but it does save space.
If you're willing to take time and effort into the process, HP's MFDs and Brother's MFDs work... mostly. HP has even improved their drivers. It took 'em long enough.
No, I repeat, no MFD I've ever seen has been trouble-free, Mac or Windows. That includes Epson, Canon, HP, Brother, and (ugggh!) Lexmark devices. They all give problems. Not necessarily the same problems, but problems. HPs and Brothers give the least trouble with Epson a close third... but YMMV. I know people who swear by Canon, while in my personal experience Canon devices have been... not so good. But it was a limited sample, and maybe I had lemons.
Most MFDs (that is, everyone but Brother) don't easily do networking unless it's a Specific Feature™. My HP PSC1350, for instance, does not believe that such a thing as a network exists, and is that way if connected to Macs or Windows machines. I can make it visible over the network, but it's a pain.
If you want wireless network printing, get a wireless router (hint: Apple sells something called an AirPort Base Station) or access point which has a USB port and supports putting printers on the network. Note that you'll likely not be able to scan over the network.
There are network MFDs; HP makes some. They're expensive. The OfficeJet 74xx is $500, and it's the cheap HP network MFD. I do NOT own one, so I have no idea how well they work, other than they're HPs... which means that the hardware will probably be excellent, and the software dreck.

  • All in One Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax Recommendations

    Hi,
I'm looking to purchase an all in one printer/scanner/copier/fax device. I was wondering what recommendations other people have. The main purpose would be to print photos, scan photos and some small business office printing. Note, a fax would be nice, but is not absolutely neccessary.
Scanning photos would be important, since I plan to scan our family's photo albums into iPhoto.
Also, is there a printer than can communicate with the Mini using bluetooth? If so , does it work well?
Since I have limited desk space, size would be an issue (smaller the better).
Looking to spend about $200, slightly more if the cost justifies itself. Less is always better.
    Thanks in advance!

    The Brother MFC-420cn
    http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/ModelDetail.aspx?ProductID=MFC420CN
does everything you ask for less than $100 -- except bluetooth.
The Pluses: Good Mac software. Cheap ink. Networkable.
The construction is flimsy plastic, but if you are gentle it will hold up.
    Definitely small footprint.
Paper path is 180 degrees, which is not my preference.
Personally, I prefer Epson all-in-ones. Also good Mac software and 80 degree paper path for less jamming. Exceptional scan quality.

  • 4620 all in one control panel non responsive

4620 all in one printer front control panel buttons non-responsive.  The panel shows information but nothing happens when pushing buttons.  So I can not copy, etc.  I can print from the computer which is directly hooked up.  The wireless light is on even though I don't use it.  I have tried unplugging with no luck.

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that the control panel display on your HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer is unresponsive. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. There is the chance that either a power issue or Firmware Programming issue is occuring within your product. Therefore, to start troubleshooting I am going to have you perform some standard hardware troubleshooting steps. Please follow the steps below.  Step 1: Check Power: Please plug your printer directly into a wall outlet for power. Power strips and surge protectors may cause your printer to lack power and not respond properly. Once your printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet please power it on. Next, please test the control panel buttons and Copy function to confirm that the issue is resolved. Should the issue persist, please proceed to the next step.    Step 2: Perform a Power Reset: Turn your printer ONWith the printer ON please disconnect the power cable from the rear of your printerLeave the power cable disconnected for 60 secondsAfter 60 seconds plug the power cable back inYour printer should start back up on its ownOnce your printer returns to the Ready state please test the control panel buttons and Copy function to confirm if the issue has been resolved. Should the issue persist please proceed.    Step 3: Update Firmware:  The Firmware is the internal Programming within your printer. Essentially, it is the 'brains' of your printer and controls what your printer does and how your printer does it. If the internal Firmware Programming is corrupted, it may cause performance issues within your printer. Therefore, I would like you to run the latest Firmware Update for your printer. However, before I am able to provide you with the correct Firmware Update to run I do need to know what Operating System you're using on your computer. Once I find out what Operating System you're using I will provide the latest Firmware Update for you to download and 'send' to your printer.   Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should the issue persist, be sure to include your Operating System in your response. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Your recommendation for a new HP Photosmart All-in-one.

Could I get your recommendations for a new HP Photosmart All-in-one.  My old Photosmart #C5180 died. I loved that machine - it made excellent copies, was a wonderful printer and scanner and made excellent photographs, and it lived for many years.  What would be your recommendations for a new Photosmart that would be similar to my old one and hopefully use the same cartridges,  HP02, which I have a supply of.  Thanks for your any recommendations that anyone would volunteer.

    Railway,
Unfortunately no current model of printer is going to support those cartridges.
Here is a link to our current photosmart models:
    http://shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Printers/HP%20Photosmart
All of those are great printers. If you are looking to occasionaly send faxes, then the 7510 would be the one you would want to go with. It has eFax on it, which is faxing over a internet connection, without the use of a phone line.

  • All-in-one printer recommendations?

I'm looking for the above for my daughter's 1.25Ghz PB with 10.3.9. Currently looking at HP Officejets 4215, 6210, 7210, and the HP photosmart 2610. She needs it to have built in fax, so that leaves out some of the cheaper ones. Any advice would be appreciated. We are trying to keep the cost down as much as possible, hopefully without buying a piece of junk.

Check out what the Brother line of all in one's. Brother calls them a Multi Function Center. Costco has a few but they were only black and white. I shopped around and paid $179 with a $30 mail-in rebate and bought a Brother MFC-5840CN Fax, Copy, Printer and photo printer with a Flatbed scanner. All in color!!!! Set-up and install was easy as could be and every works Awesome. It sounds like alot, but it is very compact and has the ability to do legal size paper.
I have had HP's in the past and they make a fine machine. But, i must say that this Brother I bought is much more user friendly. Hope this helps.

  • All-in-one printer recommendation

I need a new all-in-one printer for my emac, and am considering the Canon Pixma MP510. I searched the forum and didn't find anything about this one specifically.
I am interested in good scanning capabilities, printing on card stock and transparency paper, and some photo printing although I typically have my photos printed elsewhere.
    Any feedback? Thanks very much.

I have an HP PSC1210 and a Canon Pixma MP130. Although they are definitely low-end all-in-ones, both make resaonably good scans and printouts. I like the HP better, but the ink is terribly expensive.
In general, operating costs for a Canon, Epson, or Brother printer will be much less since high quality generic ink cartridges are widely available for these.
Regarding the scanner capability, Canon has been in the imaging business (i.e. photography) for many years and probably knows more about optics than the others.
